Update: The due date has been moved back to July 24, giving you an additional two weeks of entry time.Kumoricon announces the launch of a new contest:

Tell the world about Kumoricon. Clips can be funny, serious, comedy, or drama, or however you best feel like expressing yourself.
Winning clips will be run on the hotel's in-building video channel (CCTV). If we receive one or more particularly outstanding clips, we may display them prominently prior to the convention and use them as "official" fan-made advertising material.
Judging will be performed by a video contest committee after entries are received.
Grand Prize winning video of each commercial length category will receive:
- Acknowledgment and display on our website, YouTube channel, and during the convention.
- Four complimentary badges to Kumoricon 2012
- Four Kumoricon 2011 convention t-shirts
Additional prizes may be presented at the sole discretion of the Director of Publicity.

Who may enter: Anyone (singly or as a group), except Kumoricon board members, video contest committee members, or any other Kumoricon staff who are involved in running the contest.
Information you must include with your entry:1. The full names of all entrants who worked on the video.
2. The name or names you would like to be credited by.
3. A working email address where you can be contacted (if not specified it will be assumed the one it is sent from).
We will confirm receipt of entries as they are received.Summary of rules: (see fine print below for more rules)
- Entries should positively represent, reflect, and promote Kumoricon and its attendees.
- Better entries will highlight unique aspects of Kumoricon which set it apart from other anime conventions.
- Entries must be appropriate for all ages.
- Neither the entire video, nor significant parts of its footage, may have been used by other organizations (such as to promote another organization or product). The video should be unique to Kumoricon.
- Videos may include very brief content from external sources subject to "fair use" limitations, but only in a manner in which no endorsement is implied, and in which it is clear to most viewers that any external content used is not original to the video. (By "very brief", we're talking 1 to 3 seconds across the whole video, maximum, unless there is strong artistic justification for a greater amount.)
- The same entrants may enter multiple, completely unique entries.
- We may, at our discretion, accept late entries, but this is not guaranteed.
- Entries should be either 30 or 60 seconds long.
- Entries should be about 4:3 aspect ratio, and 24, 30, or 60 frames per second. (See below for more technical details.)
- Kumoricon may display, exhibit, and distribute any entries received. (See the fine print below for the specifics of this point.)
Technical details:We can accept a video in almost any format. If you don't know what format to use, then H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, (both video and audio at high bitrates), and an MP4 container is a good choice. Use any resolution you want (at least SD resolution is better), but target an aspect ratio of about 4:3. (If you use a different aspect ratio, we'll have to letterbox or pillarbox it into a 4:3 shape.) You can submit in 24, 30, or 60 frames per second, progressive or interlaced. (If you submit interlaced, we'll carefully deinterlace it if needed.) If you want to submit a DVD or Blu-Ray disc, or other physical format, please contact us in advance with
extra time to make arrangements.
If we cannot play your video, we will contact you to explain the problem, and you are responsible for quickly submitting a fixed copy if the due date is near, or has already passed.
The fine print
- All rules stated above apply. Additionally, these rules in the "fine print" section apply, and take precedence if they address the same issue as the above in more detail, or are found to conflict with any rules stated above.
- By entering, all entrants agree to all contest rules.
- Entries must consist solely of the original work of the entrants.
- Entrants retain ownership of the intellectual property in their submissions. However, all entrants, by entering, grant to Kumoricon perpetual, irrevocable permission to display, play, exhibit, distribute, copy, transmit, or use for publicity purposes, in human-readable or machine-readable form, their entries for any purpose, or sublicense the same permissions, provided that neither Kumoricon nor any sublicensor shall remove or cause to be removed any notices of credit, authorship, copyright, disclaimer of warranty, or other legal notices from the entries.
- Entrants must be authorized and able to grant Kumoricon the permission described in the preceding point.
- Entries which do not meet the criteria in the rules may be disqualified, and entrants not participating in the contest according to the rules may have their entries disqualified. If this is discovered after a winner is announced, the award may be revoked.
- Kumoricon reserves the right to add, remove, or modify rules, or make special allowances or changes to the contest, at its discretion, to resolve any unforeseen circumstances or problems which may arise, in the interest of ensuring fairness and seeing that the contest is completed according to the intent and spirit of the rules.
