Convention DVD, Demand Poll

In 2003, at the first Kumoricon, Klint from http://www.obsessedwithanime.com (currently unavailable) created a DVD of footage from the con. He also made DVDs of Sakuracon 2003 and 2004.

I bought these and I loved the footage of the cosplay contest and seeing clips of the craziness in the halls. I would definitely buy more if he ever made them.

I was hoping to encourage a new DVD to be made for/from next year's Kumoricon and I thought that if there was enough of a positive interest from attendees then staff might be willing to make the investment in creating one (and buying the equipment to do so).

"And remember, this is for posterity, so please be honest."

Edit - I forgot to put a "No, because I'm too poor" so please comment if you vote for a reason I haven't listed.

I would love a Kumoricon DVD! I plan on being there for everything, but in the off-season, about this time of the year, I would totally just sit down and watch it over and over again, getting myself hyped up as I work on costumes and what-not. Aside from Youtube, there is very little of that to be found, unfortunately. So, indeed, very much yes would I be into that idea. ^_^

I'd buy one for sure. I only have a video of the cosplay contest from NDK on my computer but I still watch that all the time.

I think we all just have such a fun time that we want something to sit down and watch every once in a while in memory. Hence the crazy amounts of picture taking.

Plus in X amount of years, how funny is it going to be showing it to your kids?

I would definately buy one because I know I won't be able to make all the events I want so it would be cool to see what I missed on a DVD.

I would definetly buy one! It would be so much fun to watch after it's all over.  I always say to my friends, "okay, I'm gonna make a documentary of kumoricon this year."  then later, I get so sidetracked with everything that's going on I forget to film anything. Having the dvd would be a nice way of remembering the con and getting excited for the next one etc.

If you do end up making one, you should make sure to get lots of interviews with the convention attendees as well as filming events.

I think a good example to follow is that star trek film about fandom and the convention world.  it had interviews over several cons and at the homes of some people.  Of course it will need a person to do all the interviews (Who was mostly out of the camera) and some really wacked or intence fans.

I hate to burst your bubble Dan, but the point of Trekies was basically, "lol, look how pathetic these idiots are."  And they were indeed pathetic excuses for human beings.  Some of them I pitied, others, I wanted to strangle.

Yup, that's the one I wanted to pummel with my bare hands!  The thought of him with a woman is almost enough to ruin the very idea of sex.  I just hope they don't spawn.

Totally agreed. There could even be, if anyone else thinks it a good idea, volunteer "filming forumsters" who just film with whatever devices they have available. Like, I've got a digital camera with a nigh-illimitable memory, perfect for filming. If it came down to it, or if it was deemed a good idea, I wouldn't mind walking around with a cam in front of my face, heh. Not at all. ^_^

Wow, thanks for bumping this. we're going to have someone video taping many of our events this year and hopefully we can make that available to the public by the time the General Elections roll around.

I'd buy a few and give a couple to some friends as well... though if both staff members and fan boys/girls organize a group for "capturing" the Kumoricon experience in it's entirety. That would be something I wouldn't mind being apart of. It all comes down to how well everyone could pull together and create this...

Another topic discusses some of this as well...

OK, since we have some people hard at work on the DVD right now, I'm going to lock this thread.

We'll start one up next year ins say....June.... to make sure that we can get feedback on the 2007 dvd and find out what people want to see in 2008!
