I know I'm not the only one looking to lose some pounds before the con. I'm really wanting to lose 15-20 by September. The character I'm going as wears a spagetti strap summer dress, so I'd like to shape up between now and then!
Right now I'm just trying to eat healthier (that's the biggest problem) and going to the gym 4-6 days a week.

Ah, I was supposed to be exercising...but I don't know what happened to that, haha! I took a break from my daily workout about two weeks ago, but I'm going to pick it up again tomorrow, lol. I HAVE been trying to get my eight glasses of water a day though (which I didn't pay attention to before), so I hope I'm helping myself out just a little bit.

I'm going to be wearing Albel again so my stomach needs to look as good as it does now if not better. I also am cosplaying Cloud Stife from Advent Children and he has some pretty big arms so I will be working on bulking those up. My organization jacket is also going to be quite formfitting but I am not too worried about that. What I am worried about is the swimsuit contest :P
So yeah, I will be working out quite a bit between now and the con. Once I get home I'll try jogging every day and do strength training for arms every other day and legs the days I'm not doing my arms ;D
Thats the plan at least, we'll see if I am able to follow through with it XD

I just started focusing on shaping up for my cosplays a little over a week ago. Just eating moderately and jogging every morning. I hate jogging! But it works for me better than anything else. So far I've lost 3 pounds :D Now I just have to keep it up! ^^
Urgh, I hate jogging too. There's an elementary school directly behind my house (and I mean DIRECTLY, we get sports balls and stuff in our backyard all the time, lol) and they have a track sorta thing going around the field. I used to jog during the summer in the mornings, but you know Oregon weather, it's terrible any other time of the year, haha!

Well, at least you're all on the right track. There's only one way to lose weight, and it's not by eating "lite" and "low fat".
I was weighing 180+ lbs back in high school, then I stopped eating fast food and drinking soda. Seriously. That alone can help you lose at least 20 lbs in a couple months (depending on your eating habits already). If you have a job, that'll help even more.
Without a car, I have to walk for over an hour to get to work. And then back again after working in a warehouse. No matter how much I eat, I can't get above 143 lbs.
Making food yourself is definitely healthier, too. Water is great because if you're hungry, drink a glass and you're pretty much satiated. Personally, I put at least a teaspoon of sugar into almost everything I eat/drink, such as just simple water, rice, some sandwiches, and hashbrowns (I see you making a o.O face but it's good). It'll keep your energy up.

My house is fairly close to my school. It's a forty minute walk, so the bike ride should be about 20 minutes. i just got a lock recently, too.

Wow! I live in Gresham, and my high school was a 5-minute bike ride. Now I go to PSU, so if I wanted to ride my bike there from my house, I suspect it will take at least 30 minutes to an hour!

I have relatives in France, who I visited for a month when I was 10. I came back really tan and fit, because we rode bikes everywhere around the village and town, sometimes over an hour or two.

I suppose I wouldn't mind riding my bike to school during the summer, but it's all the other seasons that worry me, haha. We Oregonians get lots more rainy days than sunny, and I don't wanna look like a wet dog caught in a storm when I show up to class!

Man, I miss high school when I was on the swim team - my body rocked! 5-6 days a week and one hour of constant swim with various lengths and strokes... maaaaan, that was the best thing ever. And aside from martial arts & marching band (it's exercise!) it's the only exercise I actually enjoy. XD
Unfortunately, no pools I can get to now... The Kroc Center is underway though!!! I can't wait for that to be open. >w< (For anyone who doesn't know what the Kroc Center is - it's a community center that is being built right now. It's going to be amazing!!!)
For now though I have a jumprope routine to accompany my taekwondo exercises. I eat healthy as it is... it's always the exercise that I need to work on. *laaazy person, faaar too entranced by the computer*

I've lost some more weight because I changed my diet again to something better and I've been stressed because of school so the pounds are just shluffing off. XD

I'm trying really hard but every time I eat a single brownie or something I feel like I need to either eat a tiny bit for the rest of the day or exercise a lot. I'm trying substitutions with food. I'm getting sorbet and frozen yogurt instead of ice cream. lol

I'm vegitarian, and haltering on vegan, but that doesn't stop me from eating baked goods. But I have a healthier diet than most.

Man, I need to take advantage of the Tigard High pool this summer before they cut it out completely. >.o I'm hoping maybe some water aerobics sometime this summer.
As of now, I ride my bike pretty much every place I go or I walk (within walking distance). I walk to school every morning and back every afternoon (even though it isn't that far). In my aerobic fitness class at school we're starting up fitness walking so I'm psyched for that. xD Because of that, it will be my second time going to Cook Park in one day. That's right. Now, since it's starting to warm up, my father has decided that we can go for bike rides in the morning. That means getting up at 5 am, even on school days. We ride for an hour, I eat breakfast and take a shower, and I'm off to school. It'll be good for me, but especially my father since he has high blood pressure. (Hopefully it will help him.) Also I am still doing my sit-ups, bicycle crunches, and push-ups everyday. ^^
As far as eating healthy, I have fruit at least three times a day (at every meal) because I love it so much! xD Vegetables at lunch and dinner help, too. Also I have faaaar more whole grains in my body now than I used to. My father is letting me get some more organic cereals and Kashi bars. d: I am also still drinking skim milk even though my father hates it. xD Also snack-wise, I realize that if I eat enough at meals (which is still not a lot) I can convince myself not to have a snack. For the most part I'm starting to eat a lot better which might not help with my weight (which is actually a lot of muscle according to my doctor), but will help me stay healthier. :3
Soso, I also have my summer exercise schedule planned out, and I WILL keep it. As soon as school gets out I am POSITIVE to keep up this routine. (unlike failed attempts, this will work D: <) I'll get up every morning like I have been and go on a bike ride, then come home eat breakfast and get cleaned up. Then before it gets too hot, I'll take the dogs for a walk down through the park. There is a DVD set called P90X that I want to start, but I'm not sure how I could afford it. >< Anyways, if I get that I would do that in the morning, eat lunch, do afternoon stuff, dinner, and again take the dogs for a walk. So hopefully, by the time K-con rolls around, I'll be ready. >:3

Glad to know you guys are all working on it...whatever makes you happy :) I literally just got back from the gym. The weather is getting so much better, so maybe I'll ride my bike around or go jogging rather then just doing it at the gym.

I won't be entering the tournament this year if I can actually manage to get prizes for it, but I like to be at my best anyway, since I'll probably be playing DDR during most of my free time at the con. As of August I'll probably start biking 60-80 miles daily to get my stamina up and I'll hopefully have a setup at home to practice on an addition 4 hours a day.

Yesterday at work was work out enough. I was covering the entire floor and I also had to put chairs on the floor from the back as well as bikes. The bikes were really really hard to put out x.x

Sadly enough what I was going to work my body at for Kumoricon is not going to happen (I won't have the money to buy a swimsuit I'd feel secure in after I finish my two costumes.) I'm going to start to work out again now that I've moved out of my apartment and into Beaverton. The complex has a pool that I know I'll be swimming in at least once a week and now that I have my own room (my boyfriends in it too, but I don't really care what I do in front of him) I won't be embarrassed to do sit-ups/pull-ups/etc.
I've also got a four mile walk to go to and from the max station daily now and since I don't live in the scary city where you have to ride your bicycle in the street, I can finally use my bike in the bicycle lanes :D
My goal: Have a lovely looking tummy and more muscles on my arms by Sakuracon so I can be the best Blue Mary evaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I was on a roll eating healthy and exercising 3 times a week...mmmm 3 weeks ago (for a good solid 5 weeks). Then school, work, and life just took over. I am thinking to start going to the pool @ 6:00 am next week so I CAN fit in some exercise time. But I love sleep oh so much!
That and I should use my Wii board again! It's collecting dust! It did help earlier this year, but I gave myself excuses to do other things T_T boooo..
Well, it's a plan. My cosplay character has a body that is impossible for me to attain, but I can at least be FIT to cosplay and not look bad being the character who was my childhood heroine. ^_^

I have been working on my sit ups and push ups.
I was never able to really do any.
I can do sit ups fine now but my push ups still need work. I was walking and excersizing a lot since january (it was my new years goal to take better care of myself) but I haven done that too much in the last month. Makes me feel lazy. D:

Haha, I can't do proper pushups at all~ Mine are the modified kind where you cross your legs at your knees.

I used to be so healthy when Wunderland (Nickel Arcade place) still had a DDR Extreme machine. I went there ever week till it went away and now I have to find alternate means of exercising. Right now im in a weight class, so I can grab people when they glomp me now! Maybe I should offer piggyback rides as a means of exercise? =)

I would love to get down to 120 but I know that isn't going to happen. I rather be tone than skinny, seeing how most of my cosplays require me to be toned, and as I always say weight really doesn't tell you how healthy you are. I think inches are a better indicator of how skinny someone is. I weigh 135 lbs and I can leg press about 350 lbs. I can calf press about 280 so I know my legs are in great shape, I'm working on my arms and I have about 21% body fat. I would love to get that to 20 or even 19 and I would be happy.

kagome: upper arms? a really good way to work on arms is push ups actualy ._. arm strength is natrually weaker in woman (we have stronger leg strength though) so push ups and most arm excersise are harder for woman but do like ten a night and up it gradualy and your arms should be pretty good. also get some squish balls, they help.

Also shoulder raises help a lot too. Not sure how to get fat off them though, cardio is what burns fat.

Never deny yourself too much food. If you eat less and your body is used to eating a lot, then when you go on like that (you know, starting to eat less) then your body will store more fat when you actually do eat(or something like that). DONT FEEL ASHAMED!
Happens to me all the time. Thas why I has a pudgy belly. >:/

So I didn't go swimming 6 in the morning like I said, but I managed to get off work early and go to the gym swimming pool. I did an hour of aqua aerobic resistance and MAN, my bi and triceps are tired. You know when you do push ups (full fledge push ups) and you can BARELY push yourself up on the last one (ur arms just wanna collapse..)? That's how my arms feel (still feel after 3 hours now). I'm gonna try to go again 2mrrow night. It feels GREAT to work out!
Rock climbing is also good for upper body strength. I went 2 weeks ago for the first time and ... my arms/upper body were sore for 3 days.

I'm not a great swimmer either... I think I have the basic swimming skills to not ... drown? The aquatic dumbells keep you afloat and you just work with the resistance.
My friend does NOT know how to swim and she's in the deep pool with me. She says that she just won't let go of the dumbells and it will be fine! :P I think she's fine, and I would be there to help her should anything happen :)

There is an aquatic aerobics class offered @ OSU...but I've never taken it. Anyways, do investigate, detective. :D The aquatic gear were on a shelf close to the pool; I just grabbed 2 and went swimming.

lol, my momma was overprotective, so she wouldn't let me go to the pool without my floaties when I was little! Yep, I had to strap those safety floating things to my arms! ^_^

its basically when the muscles on top of your shins get sore and there isn't a lot of ways to stress them out. The slightest movement tends to hurt but its like that with any muscle soreness.

I'm starting to exercise again. Today my friend and I got up early and ran/walked 2 miles. We walked a lap, then ran--not jogged a lap. I was dead afterward. I use to be such a good runner. ;-;
We're lucky we have a University in our town. George Fox lets people use their gym for free, so we did weights after the laps for about a half hour. I'm so tired, though. x.x Tomorrow I think we're gonna play tennis for a while, then go lift weights and maybe walk a mile or two.

I wish I lived on my school campus. I commute from home, so the only time I can make use of the free facilities is between classes, and I don't want to show up sweaty or fresh from the shower to any of them, ew.

I know what you mean! When I start work, I'm going to have a problem with deciding when to shower. If I go before work, then I have the entire day to myself after I get off, but I might not get to shower. DX I could always go home after I exercise, then shower, then go. But that adds up to a lot of gas in the long run, plus I'd have to get up really early, too.

But then I sat on the computer, got on here, and voila. I'm gonna go workout.
Lordy, do I miss swimming. I was on swim team for 7 years and then they shut down the team. I haven't joined a new one, and I've gained like 10 pounds since I stopped XD (Granted I've gotten about 2 inches taller as well)

I thought I might just chime in and grant a few tips, as I am as well on the same quest ;D
-The key part to losing weight is aerobic exercise (the stuff that makes you go huffing and puffing and makes your heart go crazy) an-aerobic, although good for bulking muscle, woln't lose you many pounds.
-As for drinking water don't force yourself too much it's 8 'glasses' of water, including your solid foods (ie salads have water content). Aerobic exercise will make you sweat and make you thirsty so that helps as well with drinking more =)
-Set realistic and long term goals (heh I sound like a savings advisor) a realistic drop in weight is a pound per week, realize you're decreasing your body fat and making muscle which is heavier. If you're dropping pounds quick you might yo-yo back. If you're really into it invest in a nice scale that shows body fat % and muscle fat %. Make a chart of how you are doing, note that if you don't lose as much as you want, don't get discouraged but get more in depth and take a look at the calories your consuming.
-Check out websites to see how many calories you burn with your exercise and a healthy daily calorie diet just to give you an idea here's some info:
Calories to lose a pound = 3500
"Healthy" Daily calorie consumption 2000
Don't go lower than 1200 calories a day
Don't go hungry grab a healthy snack bar (Nature Vally oat+honey!!!)
-Drop those sodas grab a G2! or mix up your water with lemon, lime, or orange! Find new drinks that are low calorie and taste different so you don't get bored with it.
So good luck with your weight loss, make sure you get the right information and have fun with your exercise! I'm biking to work every day that I can (~600 calories a day! :D but I confess I need to work on eating better :'( )

Err...are you serious? Weight training is great for weight loss and can lose you quite a few pounds.

Lifting weights won't lose you pounds, but rather inches, and tone you up. The only real way to lose weight is, like he said, aerobic exercise. Running, jogging, walking, sports, anything that gets you moving and gets your heart pumping. Weights only tone your muscle.
I'm going to the gym in a few minutes. My friend works at Curves so we're going there to do their weird obsticle course that's meant for weight loss. I'm excited. XD

That is another thing for people lifting weights, split it into two groups (I do upper body and lower body) and then alternate between them. That gives the muscles a chance to rest and get stronger for the next day.

Sounds hard. I really didn't want to workout today but I forced myself too. I'm glad I did. I feel a lot better now than I did before. I also got to do some pull-ups and dips (which I haven't done in a long time x.x)
Squats are on my list of things to do tomorrow. I love them. Squats really are a great full body workout. I suggest that most people do them. They will make you stronger and leaner quickly.

I always do three sets of 12 for my weights. When that gets to easy I add more weight.
Three sets of 12 is what I was told to do in weight training in high school so I kinda stuck with it XD Though for squats I try to do more, like three sets of 25 or if I am up to it three sets of 50

It's very fast paced. XD But fun! Speaking of squats, there was this machine there that you put your shoulders under, then pulled down with you into a squat. Then you had to lift yourself back up, plus the weight of the machine. That one sucked. DX

I think I have seen that one before. It works well. You don't have to worry about the whole balance thing with free weights. Maybe Friday I'll take my dogs down to the park for a long walk, though one doesn't walk for very long....so maybe I'll only take Roxy >_> She'll go till I stop and much longer XD

Oh man, I am sore today. I can do a bunch of sit-ups and never feel it but I do 20 pull ups and 20 dips and my abs are a little sore, not really sore like my butt but sore when I stretch.

Yeah it's a really good idea to switch it up a lot. The best way to overall looking better is to keep changing what you do so your whole body gets a workout you end up making more muscle and the more muscle you have the more base calories you burn a day. It looks a lot better in the end then say, just lifting weights, having buff biceps and a flabby stomach heh.
If you're really out of shape try and just run for like a half a mile then the next day walk a mile or two. My body knows when i'm about to do some exercise and gets in a mode, or at least thats what it feels like, and at first your body might be going wtf are you doing?!
Oh yeah and one more thing don't do strait one thing like 50 sit ups, do like 20 sit ups, 20 push ups and repeat 2-3 times

found out at the beginning of this week sage is going to make me come over to her house practically all summer and we're going to jog around this path at a park near her house. So she can stay in shape, I can get in shape, and she can get tan.
We also plan on going to a river or lake somewhere so I can work out and she can tan even more. 8)

I need to get some new workout shoes! I've destroyed my workout shoes and my running shoes are showing signs that they need to be replaced. I need to find me a jogging partner, so I can start running again or get a Ipod shuffle. Something to distract my body from saying "take a break"

I just incorporate it with my daily schedule I don't want to pay 75 bucks a month to ride a bus with a bunch of (possibly) sick people on it, so i ride my bike. Running takes quite a bit to warm up to, back when i was running it took me a couple months to actually run for a full 30 mins, but when i got to that point I could run for a very long time, like until my body felt exhausted... Man that felt great =) It was really fun; changing strides, leading (most) of the pack, motivating people I lapped

Hahaha, I look at people who are in shape, and think a lot about exercising. It's really not that hard to do once you start doing it. It's just getting yourself to do it that's the hard part. I also think about how tired I am of feeling the way I do, and that if I don't want to feel that way anymore, then I have to do something about it.

I woke up this morning and put on one of my smaller shirts and I was very happy with what I saw. I looked great. I feel great, I just need to keep this up for the last three weeks that I am here. After that I can jog in the park and I have a wii fit so something to help me strengthen muscles (not that I need it for that :P )

I hate losing weight some times cause i'm right on the cusp of a 32 waist and a 34. So when i work out my 34's don't fit, when I don't my 32's don't. I guess its not that bad, there's always belts =P

Everyone is doing so good ;D I'm doing pretty good...haven't really been to the gym in the last couple days but I've been eating pretty healthy and working alot. I'm always rushing around helping customers and lifting heavy boxes. At this rate, I'm confident that I'll be at a healthy weight by the con. At my height I'm supposed to weigh a maximum of 154 lbs. So I just need to lose about 11-13 pounds by then.

I worked in my grammas garden on Friday from 10AM to 8AM. Man, I'm sore. x.x; Yesterday we did a zombie/survivor photoshoot in an abandoned house and some guys barn, so that was fun. >D Tomorrow I might go play tennis with a friend for a bit.

Haha, I don't really worry about my eating habits either lol. I eat whatever I want, whenever I want and it's thanks to the high metabolism I got from my dad's side! But that doesn't mean I don't look lumpy in certain areas. I have to exercise really hard to work off my chubby cheeks, neck area and thighs. I also want toned abs and actual upper arm strength, haha~

Today I helped my dad dig a hole, and I spread a big pile of compost around in our garden. I had no idea that you used your tummy muscles for shoveling. They hurt really bad afterwards.

I did a lot of yard work today too. I had to trim a bush with some electric hedge clippers. While I was doing it the power cord got stuck in it and when I turned it on sparks flew by my face x.x
But aside from that hard work I just ate quite a bit of cake, so I may be doing some squats latter tonight to try to work SOME of it off. XD

I've finally started working out again after recovering from retarded injuries (mostly a minor concussion, yuck).
My boyfriend, being the lovely man that he is, has agreed to work out with me so I'm not lonely. We went running tonight though and I forgot that my asthma has started acting up again and I ended up almost having an attack in the middle of the street.
All is fine and well though. We ended up walking for the rest of our run, I just need to remember not to overexert myself for a bit.
Worked on some stomach and arm exercises too, I'm exhausted, but I think that's mostly from trying to fight off an attack :\

But on the trampoline I did a front flip too close to the edge and my ankle hit the medal rim, so I think I sprained it or something.

I have muscle relaxers for my shoulder blade, and I take those at nighttime if it's really hurting. Those things make you tired, but put you in a good mood, if you know what I mean. XD
I don't like taking them though, cause I'm usually up for a while, and it's hard when I'm suddenly feeling tired at 8 PM.

Got distracted from doing my workout yesterday from playing tag in the park with my boyfriend. We were running around for at least 40 minutes though so I'm sure I burned off whatever calories I would have burned off running with it.
Seriously though, there's something wrong if a 20 and a 24 year old are squealing and running around like we're in elementary school, ha ha. I run tonight though.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that. You are carefree, that is a good thing. And actually tag probably burned more because you would have been sprinting or running faster than you normally would.

Going to work out with someone can help boost your enthusiam to exerscise. I use to go with friends, but they've been busy, so I'm a one woman team. At least I started with great support.
Eating has always been an issue with me, but now I just eat whatever and in moderation. I eat the whole food pyramid (hmm the old one)...I don't deprive myself because I will just crave more and eat more. Simply all things in moderation has been working. No weight gain so far, but I do see some toning of my arms. Belly is not cooperating yet, and lower body is progressing.
Keep it up everyone! Even if you are in the planning stage--it is still a start! :D

Yeah definitely exercising with a friend will do you some good. My friend Erin calls me every morning and gets me out of bed to go exercise. We don't do the same thing everyday, either. Somedays we'll go to the gym, other days we'll take walks, or run, today we played tennis for about 40 minutes, then took a walk. So if you just set up a schedule for different things to do, then you might be more likely to go out and do stuff.

I play with my dad every day its sunny :) We've gotten pretty good in the 10 years we've been playing. And my dad, although he can HIT the balls, he hits them in awful directions, so I'm always all over the lawn trying to get them XD

Argh! I'm tired of getting off of my routine because I'm sick or I'm taking care of my sick boyfriend. I pledge now, I will work out on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until school is done and I'll work everyday during the summer (Unless it's when I'm driving to Iowa).

I wish I coud get thinner by con time but I have this Thyroid problem and it's completly stopped my weight Gain/Loss!!! :o. I am completly serious!!, for the last year and a half I've been stuck between 195 to 205 pounds and I tried working out for 6 months straight 6 days a week at a gym and didn't lose a single pound :'(. I can lose weight if I had my Thyroid medicine but right now I can't aford it so I'm kinda outa luck :'(.

i got out of my routine of getting up at 5:30 to do yoga and strength training when my mom got pretty sick and I had to take care of her, well I'm taking up the routine again >: Starting tomorrow morning which means Chi is gonna hit the hay at 9pm tonight. (tre early!)
xD and btw, Wii fit is HARD O_O I just did ALL my excersizes, Yoga, Strength training, Arobics, and Balance games. x_x and I did every single mode I have of the running (short, long, island lap) so I'm kinda wiped today and no more excerisize for me till tomorrow.....

My run is full of steep hills so I have to stop a lot. And when I say steep I mean steep ass hills. I don't know how anyone could continuously run up them. I might need to find an alternate route.
Also, side cramps suck. Is there a stretch you can do to prevent them before running?

one thing is that confuses me is diets. you dont need to eat diet food. just eat less than you normal do of whatever food you want and excersize : P Youll lose more eating some carbs like a normal diet and working out than you will eating close to nill carbs and not doing as much physical activity.
dieting just starves your body of food you need and messes up your metabolisum. America eats to much as a whole (acording to a lot of my exchange student friends our medium is equivilent to their large) you can still have starbucks in the morning : P just get a grande or a tall instead of a vente.
physical activity actualy hones your body to be fitter, tighter, and the more you work out the more you can eat xD which means you dont have to skimp so much on your favorite foods.

they actually say eating all the time keeps your metabolism going. I'm not saying eat a full meal every 30 minutes or something. but they suggest snacking every now and then, but don't over do it. certain vitamins help with weight loss as well.

When you eat before bed or exercising(remember, small amounts) it revs your metabolism into high gear and then it burns even more calories. and actually your suppose to eat a high cal breakfast but only if you know your going to be doing a lot of things all day. and I say school or work is a good excuse for that.

I thought that myth got busted? Anyways I've heard that a snack is a snack, you're going to gain as much weight from eating food before bed as you would in the middle of the day. Just eat when you're hungry, I always eat something before bed because I get hungry again around ten and I've always been in decent shape. But I eat something like an apple and not cookies.

i ussualy have like a couple apple slices with milk or something, it just helps me sleep and its not really bad food thats going to turn into a bunch of fat. what nikki said has some truth to it so you dont eat a big meal before sleep. but some food right before you excerisize and before you sleep can help you : )

see I actually believe eating before bed helps. I tend to get hungry an hour or so before bed so I eat a light snack so I can actually fall asleep. Then I don't wake up hungry in the morning. If I didn't eat before bed, I'd still be hungry in the morning. Your body's still working while your asleep, just not as much. So you'll still digest the food that's in there but just not as quickly as normal so make it small and light.

Well....its not good if you are waking up not hungry, you need breakfast to jump start your day and give you energy for the rest of the day. So given the choice I rather go to bed hungry and have a good breakfast than go to bed right after eating a snack.

So my mom decided a little while ago to cut out soda from her diet just to see what would happen, and after a few weeks she's lost over 15 pounds. Note that this is totally without changing her food intake or any added exercise. I've cut myself down to only one soda a day if I have any at all and I've noticed that it's really helping me thin out too.
The biggest problem I've been having is that my friends aren't always the healthiest bunch, and quiet a few of my friends are actually heckling me for trying to lose weight which can make it harder to follow through sometimes....

I've noticed that the soda habit is bad with a lot of people. My mother never bought us soda when we were kids, and not even now. The only time we get it is during a party. Other then that, when we got out every once in a while, at the movies, etc. is when we get soda. It's really not hard to stop buying soda, you just don't buy it at the grocery store when you go! XD
But I know what you mean about the friend thing. I have a friend who constantly eats and is hungry, and I'm nothing like that. I've been avoiding him for the past month or so, and I've slimmed down a bit. I feel bad, but avoiding people who are kind of like an enabler for food is the best thing you can do.

Myth was disproved a while back and proved bunk similar to things like 80% of your body heat escaping from your head. Your digest quite a bit and burn calories while sleeping. Breakfast is because you are breaking the night fast, since you haven't eaten for 7-9 hours.

Ok well even if that is true look at it this way. If you don't eat at night you are putting more energy out than taking in and that is what causes you to lose weight. Though you could end up burning muscle that way...Let me try to explain that better, lets say you but 200 calories in your sleep (I have no idea what it really is) and you eat a 200 calorie snack before bed, you wind up equal and just burning off the snack. Now if you don't eat anything before bed you burn 200 calories total instead of just burning off what you ate before bed.
Something that I have found to help me out is protein drinks. I have been drinking them after every workout and I do feel like I can lift more. One day I could barely do 20 shoulder raises and the next day I did 35 and felt like I could have done them with heavier weights, it could be due to the fact that I strengthened my muscles but I am sure it is a combined effect of my muscles getting stronger and the protein. Also they fill me up, a meal for 250 calories, can't beat that.

Yeah what Nichole said about the sleeping and eating thing. Pretty much, the less you eat and the more you exercise, the more weight you'll lose in the end. That's really what it comes down to. I personally don't like going to bed full. If you eat dinner around seven, and go to bed around ten or eleven, then you should be fine for food. If you know you're going to be hungry, then maybe eat something around eight thirty or nine so your body will have time to digest.
I like the Odwala drinks a lot. They fill you up and they're good for you. I also like the V8 Splash drinks, they're good, too. X3

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as rude, but I can't stand it when people tell me how to exercise right and eat right. That's automatically easier said then done, obviously. I've been through classes about health and exercise, and have done plenty of research. But back to the bed and eating; I personally don't do it, because it makes me feel better about eating in the morning, and keeps me motivated. X3

Also I have been playing soccer for 15 years and I have been told over and over about how to eat healthy and what to do for exercise. Also my mom has lost 80 pounds just by cutting calories and exercising more. I never mentioned anything about a dite. I know they don't work I just try to cut back on calories because I know that I eat way more than I should....one of the things that I eat more than I should is my snack before bed. So to lose weight calories out > calories in and in order for me to do that I need to eat less. I work out about an hour if not more a day I could do more but that can lead to injury and then I would end up GAINING wait.
So since, according to your rules, I work out enough the only thing left is to cut calories. So lets see, I cut back on soda since that is about 140 calories a can. I usually eat a candy bar at night so I figure if I don't eat anything that would be better for me than if I eat a candy bar.
So I am on the same page as Marie, I have been working out and in great shape since I was five, I don't need someone coming in and telling me how to do it. Unless you are a professional in that field I am going to go with what I have been doing all my life. Also seeing how I can leg press about 350 pounds I know how to gain muscle.
I'm just saying if I eat something when I go to bed I wake up feeling and looking bloated.

If what you were saying was something along the lines of saying what's in our best interest, then you probably should have put "You should cut back..." and "You shouldn't read..." Saying things like 'don't' makes it seem like you're telling me what to do.

Before I was saying that it turns to fat and I see where that can be wrong, but in a way it can be proven true for some people. Calories turn to fat when calories in is more than calories out. so if that snack put you over the edge then you are gaining weight. Simple as that.

Everybody is different on the matter, some people need to eat more then others. Nobodies the same so our metabolisms are different as well.
Personally what I think, eat when you're hungry. Your body is telling you it needs food to keep going so give it some! Just don't feed it something that's actually going to fill it up and isn't pure crap like cookies and candy. I have to eat when I get hungry or I get really sick and nauseous, if it's not a meal I try to eat something like spinach, apples, or string cheese.
We all have different views on the matter though, this is just how I work. Different things work for different people.

It's accurate. Most other countries have smaller portion sizes then the US, we consume a lot that we shouldn't because of "expendable" income.

Eat a little, you can eat what ever you want just in small portions. The meat should be about the size of your fist or smaller. Same with the rice, that tends to be one portion.

And: If you're healthy in general, eating right, excerise regularly etc., your body burns calories 24/7, so you lose weight even when you're not working out.
I would IMAGINE (thought I have nothing to back this up on, its just speculation) that it wouldn't matter when you eat. Food is food. What matters is your mentality, and what oppurtunities you choose to eat at.

sleep helps a lot : o as does drinking a lot of water! Both make losing wieght good, and heres a tip
when your going for an excersize and you have a choice between regular water and stuff like viatmen water, go for the regular water. the flaovred waters often have sugars, which can you make you thirstyer. And they add more calories where as normal water has none i believe.
and high fructose corn syrup : o I cant stress how bad this stuff is in our diet. Dont believe those adds on tv about it not being bad and equal to sugar. Ive done enough research into corn and i come from a familey of farmers. the syrup in moderate amounts isnt bad (im not saying you can never again have a popcycle or something) but the thing is, corn is in almost EVERYTHING we consume. granted theres a lot its not in which is good. but if you look in grocery stores theres corn starch, corn syrup, and a lot of cattle thats turned into hamburgers are often corn fed (fed almost nothing but corn because its really cheap to farm) the high fructose corn syrup itself is just doused with chemicals, and is made from corn doused in chemicals. Most corn farmers cant eat their own croups to sustain themselfs because they have to cover it in anti pestisides and use certain grain that makes the stuff pretty nasty (ive tasted it)
the syrup is in most sodas, popcycles, sweets, anything sweet really. : o thats why its so bad for your body, your taking in to much of it becuase america was running off corn for a while. the adds to have some truth them, its not going to kill you if you have a bit, and it is fine in moderation, but this stuff is pretty damn hard to moderate.
thats why instead of sodas now days i'll go for things like green teas or orange juice. It makes it a lot better for me, and its lower on calories. if you shop localy or organicly your less likley to find as much corn in your diet : o most nicer restourants aswell will make sure that they buy grain fed beef (unlike places like macdonalds that go for the cheaper corn fed)
and like mentioned before, diet is not good for you, but americans tend to eat more in general. Just go for the smaller size, and it till your FULL dont finish it because its there.

Also eat slower. If you are going to have a meal that is a weakness of yours and you know you will eat a lot east a piece of toast before hand to fill you up so you aren't as hungry when you sit down for that meal.

whoa....a lot went on while I was gone. and it's only been a day. XD
To earlier conversation I eat before bed because if I don't, I wake up at like 2 with horrible hunger pains. I have a weird digestive system. We're starting a cleansing thing in our family in like a week or so, so I'll have a better time with everything working properly. I do eat breakfast just a very light one, because we tend to stop in the morning thus I'm getting something to drink or eat that has more calories and what not. And I take vitamins for that extra boost of something I need and so I'm not skimping out on something because of cutting back on calorie intake. wow....I just read over that and it sounded really unhealthy. But in truth...Its not.
And now I have tons more tips to use from all of this. thanks to all those that posted advice. ^_^

what nikki said : o also one bite at a time! :o I noticed hat i myself do this but before im even done chewing a bit i'll take another, if you go one bite at a time and thourghly enjoy your meal youll be able to notice when your full a little bit faster, the meal will last longer which makes it seem like more, and you get to enjoy your food <3
and heres another proven fact, when you have the choice between small and large plates GO SMALL this is especialy handy at buffets and when your just at home eating some kind of familey style take out.
there was a study at the center for health reserach (where my mom works actualy) that when they gave 20 people large plates and let them loose on a buffet, and 20 people smaller plates and let them loose on the buffet, the smaller plates thought they got as much food as the large plates by just piling it on high a bit or going back for seconds when they were still hungry. but in fact the large plates consumed a LOT more than the small plates because there was so much food already their its kind of like the mind doesnt want to be wastefull so theyll eat it all if they can. if you eat and take smaller portions on your plates the first time around, your less likley to over eat.
EDIT: one more thing, never ever ever go shopping when your really hungry : o you tend to get a bunch of food because it all sounds good and dont tend to take in that it might be more fatning.

we had a really really really nice formal dinner but everything else like lunch for instance was like this burger joint they had or the buffet. i tried to risist burger temptaion so instead i went to the buffet and snaged a lot of fruit and some breads. i tried to balance it out as best i could.

cravings only last 15 minutes! When you have a craving for something just know you can outlast it, and one thing that helps get rid of cravings right away, brushing your teeth odly enough. so when you get the craving you can out last it or go and take a quick teeth brushing!

I haven't been able to work out much for a while now. The routine is always the same: I get sick and can't exercise for a while. When I'm feeling better I take a small break to regain strength. Then, just as I'm about to exercise (the day before) I get sick again. =_=
On the plus side, I haven't been eating a lot when I'm sick. But still, even when I'm not sick, my father and friends have been saying I'm not getting enough to eat... I think I'm not hungry, but I don't know anymore. x.x

You need calories and nutriants to live and thrive, one really good way to stay skinny but not look like a plank is to again work out and eat a healthy amount. feed your body when it wants food, and keep building muscle and toning your waist line by working out.
and i know the pattern of getting sick myself, but each work out doesnt have to be this huge deal, one thing thats really nice is like find some kind of slightly elivated surface, and while you watch tv just step on and off it, try doing that during the comercials or if you can the whole show, its a great way to keep yourself in shape with out over exerting yourself when your weak.

You're right. I also enjoy exercising more than cutting back on food. I do eat when my stomach tells me too, but for some reason it hasn't been that often lately. >< And you're right. I'm still working on building muscle. ^^;

I would go to a doctor if you keep getting sick, it could be just one thing.....or it could be allergies, the symptoms are similar to a cold. Congested, itchy eyes, sore throat, sneezing.

Yup ^_^ I'm actually about the order the costume.
I just got done doing cardio for an hour and I am exhausted. I ran for 30 minutes then walked up a very very steep hill for 30 minutes.

So I went on an almost 2 hour speedwalk/jog yesterday and I think that might be my new big workout deal. My friend lives exactly halfway through my route so I can stop, cool off for a second, and go again without getting to hot and nasty.
That and I've started eating a lot more fruit and such, which is working really well for me when I have a serious snack craving... =]

Alright well I have a little more motivation now, the size of the costume I had to get in the hips its an inch too smalls so I will have to lose just a few more inches off my hips in order for it to fit well. I don't think that will be too hard, if I keep up the jogging like I did today the fat will burn off quickly on the inside of my thighs, I also wouldn't be too upset if I lost some muscle on my quads >_> There is just way to much there x.x

I'm definitely going to continue. It seems the earlier I wake up, the more awake I am for the day. It feels great!
I sort of did a no-no though as far as food goes. For breakfast I had less than a cup of cereal and a small banana. Then at lunch all I had was a small salad and half of an apple. My stomach started to rumble during fourth block, so I did a quick calculation and I had had only 400 calories. x.x So when I got home I had a toasted bagel so I have some carbs in me. ^^;; I'll eat a regular portion of whatever we have for dinner so that I'll be closer to my normal calorie intake.

Also, we walked atleast a mile dring school today for community service, and on Monday we're going on a four mile waterfall hike.~<3

i didnt have a tone for breakfast and had a slice of pizza for lucnh (damn you school cafaterea) I got work tonight which means hauling 50 pounds of potatos per trip for me (in the night i ussualy a lot ._. depending what project were doing and how fast the volunteers work at packing) so im going to grab a bite to eat before i leave for work.

@lightbeam: I have that same problem... sometimes I get to busy to grab some food and all the sudden my stomach starts throwing a fit and refuses any kind of snack. And when "that time" comes around it can suck to actually go out and DO any sort of activity, even if you feel way better afterwards....
Lately I've been having a nectarine or some other kind of fruit for breakfast, normally something with a bit of carbs in it for lunch to get me fired up for a workout (@ Nikki: haha, I had a PB & J today too =] ), and have my protein for the day around dinner which helps me sleep well and keeps my body from getting mad at me XD.
I have to say I am REALLY bad about snacking when I really don't need to (I tend to eat when I'm bored) but I've been working really hard on going for a short walk if I get that sudden urge and it seems to be working so far.

Also, "in shape" shouldn't be fitting well in costumes for me at least. With my body type (genetics) I will never be able to get "skinny", so being in shape just means that I am physically fit to a point where it takes more than the average work out to break a sweat. Also that my body has accepted healthy foods and an appropriate amount of food for my body. And for costumes, I do like feeling comfortable in costumes that reveal a bit more.

I worked out on this weird stair stepper thing yesterday for a half hour, and it felt really good. It worked out my entire body, which was nice. I'm going to try to go at least 3 times a week to the gym, I just have to keep motivated.

Weeell, I don't like the way I feel, other then when I know I've gotten a good exercise, and am sweating. Besides I know that I've gained at least 30 pounds over the last two years after getting my license and moving out into the country, so I'd like to get back down to the weight I was at previously.

OH GOD.
In wellness today, we went to the athletic training room to use the BMI scale. It measures your body fat percentage.
I was all excited cause they took my height and according to them I'm 5'6 1/2... But at the doctors I'm 5'7 1/2. I should probably trust the doctor but I don't want to :)
Anyway, the average BFP for a college age female is 16-25%... And 32% is obese.
Now, I still have some baby fat on me, I'm sure (I hope), but my BFP was 24% ;_________; God I don't wanna hit that top number.

I don't like the way I look typically. I don't like wearing half my shirts and them being lose at the top but tight around my stomach. I want a smooth line from the bottom of my chest to the top of my hips. I don't want a bump where my stomach ends. That is why I am working out :P
My body fat is about 21% and if you want a real trust worthy one you can do at home find one that takes measurments not the ones that use your height and weight.

uh i go to bed at like 10 and I have three alarms in my room ._. all out of reach from my bed so it makes me have to physicaly get up to turn them off, which makes me wake up faster.

xD well i always get to school early anyways to unlock the publications room so I can get started on the latest issue of our school paper, so i like getting up early so i can get their earlyer, which gives me more time to fire up all our equipment and clean up the room : )

yeah, im not devoted to it but the superviser for the class is always late, and to avoid waiting outside the door for 30 sum minutes each day i just go unlock the key, clean the room up from year book who shares the room with us, and turn on the computers.
and you should : ) just go to bed earlyer, you dont even ahve to get up early just get a schedual going.
do you take the bus or drive places? Try to walk instead it really gives you a better work out and is good for the environment!

shay: i use my phone and two alarm clocks xD one is new witht he annoying beeping, the other is old fashioned with the bells and everything.... the combo of those two with the guitar theme on my phone gets me up pretty fast!
sakis: morning work outs are good, they start your day off well and healthy. I like yoga in the morning because it relaxes me and it stretchs me out before I dash off to school

a good idea for the summer is to job in place during the comercials while you watch tv, or get an elivated surface and step on and off it during the show. a light work out spread over a period of time really tones your body and you dont get tired as fast.

Yeah, and you can always jog in place while you watch T.V, or go on a treadmill.

@Sakis: I agree with the others. Just starting out light helps. Never. I mean never start working out for the first time with a hard workout. Not only will it be hard to recover from and not want you to work, but it does little to no benefit for your body.
Also, I was bad today. I ate everything healthy except for one old-fashioned doughnut from Starbucks. I had a salad for dinner and some yogurt and fruit for lunch, and since I exercised, it all balanced out. One bad thing every so often isn't that bad. d:

I almost had a major fast food relapse today... I found myself in the Burger King drivethrough prepared to buy a Grilled Chicken Sandwich meal.
Somehow, someway, the diet gods interfered and the broiler there was broken so NO SANDWICHES!!!!
I took it as a sign to go home and eat some pineapple for lunch instead =]
I'm going out of town to visit my relatives in Idaho until Monday and I know I probably won't be able to get in my normal exercise routine and might not eat as healthy as I have been lately so I'll just have to work extra hard this upcoming week.... I exercised today! Even with all the tornado bs near here, and our power going out. I still managed to go to the gym. Tomorrow I'm going up to Seattle, but Anna said we could go to the gym there. Running for about 15 minutes, then walking to Gasworks and back seems like a pretty good workout to me.

I was doing the pushups on Wii fit, but I was wearing socks so since we have hardwood floors downstairs, it slipped off the carpet and made me fall. My sister came down right then and stated 'You're not even strong enough to do a pushup?' and I just glared and pushed my wii fit board forward so I wouldn't fall. Then she yelled up to my dad 'Megan can't do a pushup!' and my dad called down 'Hey, what are you doing?' and I replied, ignoring my sister, 'Pushups on wii fit.' and then my sister looked at me and said 'Or attempting to.'
So I was like, ok, this is retarded, so I yelled for my dad to make her go away. He came down and said she could be there if she wanted, and I was like 'Hey, she had her chance, but she blew it, make her go away!' and then he looked at my sister and said 'Sorry, Lexie, I know it's not your fault and Megan is just complaining, but could you go away?' And I was like SCREW THIS and left to go on the computer. c:

I found a nice 40ish-mile route to my friend's house that goes along the Columbia river for about 60% of the ride. I'll probably be taking that route on numerous Tuesday afternoons this summer. Need to figure out my routes for Parkland and Eugene still. Those will be my big trips this summer. (I'm actually looking to carpool to Parkland, since the date for the tournament is coming up soon and I'm not sure I'm quite ready to do a 140-mile bike ride, then a DDR tournament, and ride back the next day)

@Doofer: If you just started a exercise routine, you need a day to rest up your body. If you wake up sore take it easy today and maybe just go for a walk or do some stretches. DO NOT OVER DO IT.

Hello! Been a (looong) while since I posted in this thread. So, I have a question for anyone and everyone! I have a bit o'money saved up and I really need to buy a bike (for commuting but the fitness will be a nice bonus). Anyone have any suggestions? I haven't bought a bike since before high school so now it's too small for me and then it wasn't something as daily as commuting. My school is only about 2 miles away but I am (hopefully) goin' to have a job this summer and I don't know where that will be...
So, I've been going around to local bike shops (I'm in Salem) and so far I've been pointed towards the Trek 7000 (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/bike_path/hybrid/7000/ (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/bike_path/hybrid/7000/)) and the Specialized Sirrus (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=38462&eid=121 (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=38462&eid=121)). Trek 7000 is right in my price range (300-400... unfortunately, not a lot in the world of bikes) and the Sirrus is 100 dollars out of it but I've heard some good things and I like the positioning of the seat and handlebars - the position would use more back muscles, rather than just my legs.
Anyway, my question is - Do you guys have any bikes ya'd recommend? Have ya heard or had any experience with the Trek 7000 or Specialized Sirrus?

I looked around for a new bike for a while. Personally I'd rather spend 100$ or so dollars on a used bike on Craigslist then a brand new bike. Usually they're pretty good, and in good shape, for a lot less. Sometimes people don't even use them and they've just been sitting in their garage for a year or two, so they knock the price down. I'd look on Craigslist to save money and get a good deal vs. buying a brand new bike.

@ Sakis - That's usually my problem. But the best thing to do is to just get up tomorrow, and start exercising. The hardest part about it is getting out to do it, not the actual exercise.
As for today, I just got back from the IMA again, and cheated the system so I got in for free and didn't have to pay again. >8D It was an intense workout. x.x;

Wow, so this weekend was TERRIBLE for me as far as food and exercise goes...
Went to Idaho to visit my relatives, and my grandma is one of those stereotypical grandma's that bakes and cooks all the time (and yet she weighs like 100 pounds! wtf..) So basically I spent the whole weekend eating food that my Nana made because she insisted that I wasn't eating enough.... Lovely and delicious, but terrible for my overall weight goals >_<
Oh well, I've been pretty good lately, and I'm gonna start hitting the gym real hard after my mom gets off work for the Summer next week so all should be well. =]

Working out with someone is nice, but I kind of prefer doing it alone most of the time. I just go to the gym though, and listen to my Ipod, so it's not too hard to stay motivated. I forgot my Ipod back in Oregon though, but the workout surprisingly isn't too hard without it. I've decided that I'm going to try to workout everyday, including weekends. That way I'll be motivated the entire time and not get off track. DX

Once school is over I am going to try to work out every day as well. I may do an easier workout on the weekends though.
As for working out with friends I don't talk to them or anything when I am working out but knowing that someone is going to meet me at the gym motivates me more to go then if I had to go by myself. I would be letting someone down if I don't go and I hate it when other people do that to me.

Yeah that's one thing I was forgetting. When I'm serious about losing weight and get back on track and drop 5 pounds, I have unreal expectations of what I should and shouldn't eat, and that usually ends in successful and quick weightloss, but bad mental health and thoughts about food.

Just got back from my walk.... it wasn't too hot out today so I decided to take a longer route than normal and even ran for a good portion of it. In the end it turned out to be about 2 hours and I'm feeling pretty good now.
@Nyahaha: Oh no! I hope you feel better by tomorrow! My mom always has me gargle with warm salt-water when I get a sore throat, and even though it tastes really gross it actually works insanely well... Go figure. XD

I'm kinda like that too. I can maintain my weight really well but I have a hard time losing weight, so I may go to extremes to get it off and then just keep it there :P

Watching a True Life episode on girls whose breasts are "too big" and now I suddenly feel the need to workout, I have no clue why I watch these things when all they do is frustrate me XD
So now I'm inspired to go to the gym instead of doing just a walk/jog today... It's my first time going to the gym alone so I'm not all too excited about it, but it should be fine.

Going to the gym alone is actually kind of nice. I do it all the time. You can decide when you want to go, how long you want to be there for, and when you wanna leave. But having a friend go along is also nice.

Erin's the only one that goes to the gym with me on a normal basis, and we're entertained for about an hour or so. My sister went once and wanted to leave after 15 minutes. DX Anna and I go and stay for generally about an hour and a half, which is nice, too. But that's cause the IMA is so gigantic, there's a lot of stuff to do. I've been wanting to rockclimb there for a while, but it costs money. XD

Really? It doesn't cost money to rock climb here, but you have to take a class to do it. You can boulder, which is basically the same thing but without the rope and you can't go as high.

Actually, depending on what type of work out you do, you might not "slim down". Some work outs are more for the over all health of your body and not the body shape. Although it would be nice if I could be a bit on the skinny side, I know that probably isn't going to happen. As long as I'm physically fit and don't get out of breath every time I run around the block, I'm good.

running and sit ups are good if you want to work on triming the tummy line like I am : o but i try to focus on my whole body.
things like Yoga, which I do every morning, are more like to keep your body flexable and in balance. my strength training tones my muscles to prevent flab so i wont have rolls when I sit down. and the running I do on weekends helps tone my waist line so I can go down a few pant sizes. i like to do a multitude of things cause I dont want to be a paper thing sheet of paper like some girls I know : o I have hips and I like em thank you very much. so instead of dieting and becoming fashion modely, I train and work out building muscle to look more healthy.

If you want to lose inches off your waist then you should run or swim. You wont be able to see toned muscles if your not at a certain body fat %

Not true. First of all, there is no universal "best" exercise. Running doesn't accomplish anything I'm looking for at the optimal rate. Running burns a lot of calories and improves your cardio-vascular system, but there are a lot of people out there who aren't looking to burn calories, like myself. Not everyone here is out to lose weight. I exercise in order to gain weight and bulk up in targeted muscle regions, and also to improve my stamina. Running is also not the hardest exercise by any means. Endurance weightlifting is.

So my new plan is to burn at least 800 in cardio every day I workout. I've been doing good on that so far, but now to keep it up, haha.
And I wish I could run, I know it'd do wonders for me because it kills me instantly. My knees are just way too shot for me to be running though. I can do the elliptical though. It is just the constant pounding pressure of running that I feel like my knees can't handle. *shrug* Oh well. I hate running anyway, haha

the most calories i can count burning was about 1000.... I was walking up hill on my tredmill that marks the calories ive lost. i was just walking for most of it and joging the rest. i put an anime dvd in with about five episodes, first episode walk slow pace, second walk fast pace, third try to jog till first brake then take a breather untill fourth then jog again till half. after that i just walked at a flat surface for the last episode. : ) I was dead beat by the end of it, but really when i look at it 1000 over a period of roughly 2.5 hours isnt all that much. but it was pretty hard and my legs felt like jello afterwords.

I went swimming + did some aqua aerobics 2day! It's fun teaching someone how to do it but she didn't know how to swim. LOL. I swear she was trying to drown me....but we worked out in the water for an hour! YAY! Now I gotta get back to studying for finals! boooo... ^_^

That's what I thought, too. I go to the George Fox gym in Newberg. But since I'm up in Seattle on the UW campus, I just go to their gym, the IMA as a guest to workout. I'm back in Oregon tomorrow, so I'll start going to George Fox again.

Wow. That is intense. x.x; I usually burn about 250 - 350 in that amount of time. XD But then again, you've been working out a lot longer then I have.
I'm proud of myself, though. I can reach my toes now without anything hurting, and I can run about 6 mph for 15 minutes easily and hit a mile in less then 10. >8D

haha, well, glad to hear you're making progress. I can't run it, but I can definitely "climb" a mile (or whatever the elliptical simulates, heh). When I do my routine and do an hour on the elliptical I usually get about 4 miles done, pretty decent for my body type, I think.

So I decided to go to this class at my gym that's supposed to get you your "ideal bikini body," which was amazing, and now my legs feel like jelly..... It was a good mix of core work and aerobics that I really liked.
I've noticed though that since I'm always significantly younger than the other people in my classes that the instructor always decides that it's funny to make the me do an extra set of plank stands or twice as many pushups because I'm "young and spry." lol. Awesome in the long run, but super lame when I'm hot and my body feels like lead XD. haha

I just ran from the farthest part of the south building to the farthest part of the north building at my school. I'm guessing its about a mile. so I got a good work out for a second. And school is stressing me so that's probably running my metabolism like crazy. YAY for adrenaline. 8D

Alright I'm feeling good. I jogged for 30 minutes, did yoga for about 15 minutes then I took my dogs for a walk. Not to mention I am going to be working tonight and out on the floor so that means a lot of walking :D I'm getting a good workout in today as well.

I had an awesome workout today too. I burned over 500 calories in about 40 minutes. It was surprisingly easy, too. Afterward I found myself not as out of breathe as I would have been 2 weeks ago, and I felt like I could probably go another 15 minutes. But the gym was closing early, so I didn't get a chance to. DX

So my knees aren't exactly the best, and apparantly I overworked my right one sometime this week because it keeps buckling anytime I try to go up or down a flight of stairs.... lame
So I wasn't able to workout really today because of it, but I'm thinking in an hour I might hazard a walk to my friends house... It's only like 40 minutes away if I take my time so it shouldn't be too bad. I just don't want the routine I've gotten into to fall apart from a few days off from exercise =[

I know how that is. It's happened to me a lot, I won't exercise for a day, then the next day I'm unmotivated to, and then it turns into not exercising at all. Just remember all the hard work you've done, and that it really isn't so bad to exercise for an hour a day or so. That usually helps me out. Today I was feeling really unmotivated because I gained weight, but I still went anyway, and I'm glad I did because I feel a lot better now.

Just got some new swimming trunks the other day, so now I can go swimming again. I'm gonna try to start swimming laps in the morning, before the pool gets swarmed by kiddies. Has always been one of my favorite forms of cardio exercise.

A few of you seem to be getting some minor high impact injuries. You can try and do something low impact like biking or swimming is a good idea too, do that for a few days and let it heal.

So I went for a swim this morning, feels great. I got a good 45 minutes of straight lap swimming, and then swam at a more mellow pace for about 40 minutes. Definitely gonna try to do this daily. And I am still planning on going to the gym later, so today should be a good one.

FINALLY I got to exercise a bit today!!! Went to a Grad BBQ for my friends and we swam for a really long time, and my friend sat on an intertube while I dragged him around the lake forever which was WAAAAY harder than it sounds!!!
Have to work on essays and such tomorrow, but Monday I'm playing tennis with my friend who just got back into town for the Summer, hopefully we can get into a good workout routine together!!!

So, I've been biking to my friends house in the morning to take care of her animals, and I have to bike back home after school, then go there and back around 8 every night. And last night, I did my heel lifts like the trainer told me too do so I could strengthen my calves during the track season, and I did some lunges and crunches.

I found out that I really don't need to loose anything. The costume fits perfectly and I look pretty good in it. I would like to lose a little fat in my thighs still. I plan on eating healthy and doing a little bit of exercise to work that off.

Honestly, I'm not one for being outside very often, and don't have money for a gym, so I actually started to do DDR the other day, and plan on doing it each day to at least work on the 'jogging' part. XD It'll be nice to be able to play on standard again. It also helps that I run up and down my stairs constantly while cleaning x.X
now to figure out something around the house I can use for weight lifting!

It really just depends on what time you want to get up. If it's going to be hot out, you should probably go earlier on. Like before 10. Otherwise I don't think it matters too much.

Well, tattoos definitely aren't for everyone. There's as much to be said for being tattoo-free as there is for being tattooed. Both have their benefits and can be awesome. ^_^
But yeah, if you don't like needles, tattooing would be a difficult thing for you, lol.
And thanks, I'll get some pics up here eventually. Right now it is just the outline, but I'm gonna get it colored in a few weeks.

Walk far enough and it's pretty much ridiculous. After last weekend, I think I'm going to start hiking this summer as part of my conditioning for DDR. Even if it doesn't actually help me get better, my legs look incredible right now, and I want to keep them that way. :D

I almost never eat fast food. Maybe once every two or three months, but that's it. x.x I've lost 5 pounds so far, which is exciting, I can already see results. Today I'm going to exercise in Portland with my girlfriend, we always seem to keep going and going when we work together. XD

I've been eating a lot of crap. People brought pizza over and it was the only thing to eat in the house so I went for it. The rain is also making it hard for me to go running so I've been playing DDR in the house with one of my roommates and friend for about 2 hours now. Good stuff.

I haven't really been doing nearly enough this week. I keep staying up until 6am and sleeping in until 3pm, so I don't get anything done. By the time I'm finally awake and ready to start my day it's too late to get stuff done (like take 20 minutes to finish building my DDR pad. :/)

So I've been super busy now that my friends are all out of school and back in town and such so I haven't been working out as much as I would like. Thankfully by doing things like swimming and keeping active I've been able to maintain the weight I have lost, so really I can't really complain too much.

so this weekends been pretty good. been cleaning my room, working on cosplay(which I think is quite the chore), washed the dog at a dog bath place(also takes a lot of work), and took weeds out of the garden. all in all I'm getting a good work out this weekend. And I haven't been eating tons of sweets this weekend either or snacking so my calorie intake has dropped.

I haven't exercised since Wednesday, and ate a lot of junk over the past few days. Suprisingly though, I haven't gained any weight at all! I dropped another pound. I'm back to exercising though tomorrow, since I know I can't keep this kind of thing up if I want to continue losing weight.

Yesterday was bad. Kahlan and I went to a buffet with my dad for father's day and, needless to say, we pigged out. It's a buffet! What else do you do there? lol
But that said, I've got some work to do. I hadn't been working out much for the past week or so due to the tattoo's healing. But now I need to refocus.

Whatever, still got about 10 miles in today. It's not impressive, but at least it's activity. Gotta play some more DDR tomorrow. I'll hopefully remember my speakers this time and have some quality sound going on. It takes time to build up your stamina, especially for running. I had trouble doing the same. But now I can run for about 20 minutes without getting tired.

Concerts are always good for that! I won't be able to exercise until possibly next Tuesday. I'm going camping Friday, and tomorrow I'm heading up to Seattle to pick a few people up coming down from Canada. Although I suppose camping has it's own exercise routine, especially at the beach.

So let me tell you, Iowa is not a fun place to go running! It's so humid here that I was sweating after running for only three minutes and I had to wait until nine to go running because it was so hot outside. I did a 20 minute run though and in the middle of the day I rode my longboard around for thirty minutes. So I'm pretty sure I got my thirty minutes of exercise in.
One nice thing about this place is it's so small that I don't really have to worry about getting bugged by everyone and I can run in the middle of the street because no one is out after 8. I think I'll end my night with some pushups/situps/etc and tomorrow morning I'm going to go to the pool and swim and then run some more at night. I have to leave my afternoon open because the Amish are coming to town :D

So I biked over to my mom's house (9 miles + hills) only to realize I left my charger at home. So, I then biked home, then to the store, then back here, then back to the store because I left my wallet there, then finally back here again.
And after all that, I still biked further yesterday. :P

Alright I got back to exercising today. I went up to the track and sprinted a straight away then walked the rest of the lap, I did that 6 times. Not too bad. I could have done more but I didn't want to push myself too hard since I haven't worked out in a while.

So I took a look in the mirror today and hot damn! I've lost an inch or two off of my waist and am at a place where I wouldn't be embarrassed to show my midriff around a con. I still have a bit of my pooch but not as much as before! I am pleased with life.
I'm still going to continue to work out to tone up and such bur seeing progress makes me happy.

Ha ha, well it was probably over a bit of a period of time. I don't measure myself to see progress so when something big like that happens I'm just like "Oh, that's cool".
But what do I do, well almost everyday (minus this last week or so I've been on vacation) I walk/longboard about 3 miles. And then at night I try to run or swim for thirty minutes. My metabolism also kicks it's self into high gear whenever I start working out regularly. Like, I have to eat something every 2 or 3 hours because my body just burns through the food.
I also pretty much cut any junk food out of my diet (again though, minus this last week. On the road it's hard to eat healthy when you're stopping at diners in the Midwest. They deep fry everything) and I eat oatmeal for breakfast every morning. I also only drink milk and water which probably has something to with it.
Yeah, that's all I can think of that would effect that. I think I'll start throwing in muh muscle building exercises now that I've seen some progress.

I've been running a mile everyday since I've decided to get in shape for my cosplay... about a month and a half ago. It's working out great! ^^ All through high school I worked out in the pool 5-6 hours everyday and now is the best I've ever looked! Crazy what different types of exersise do for ya.

My sister and I have been swimming laps in hotel pools by racing each other, just because it's a little more fun. I can't open my eyes in the water most of the time because chlorine burns them, and I swam right into the wall, hard. My nose started bleeding all in the pool and I had to get out. At least I got some of my laps done right?
Tomorrow it will be back to running and only swimming once or twice a week.

I've been so bad, it's not even funny. I just can't seem to stay on track lately. Haven't worked out for a few days, haven't been eating well...blah.

I got back from the gym this morning. I found that jogging for 30 minutes was really really easy. After that I walked up hill for about 15 minutes. Latter tonight I have a soccer game so that should help me stay on track. And when I weighed myself today I was at 134. That is the lowest I have been in a while. I would love to get to 130 but we'll see.

Have you tried asking her if you can go for runs? If not, I use to do 200 crunches in the morning, 60 leg lifts on each leg, and 5 pound weights on my arms. Then I repeated the process before I went to bed. That helped me a lot, especially when I wasn't getting much exercise.

I can probley walk around the block a few times with my friend Chelsea and walk to the corner market here in McMinnville a few times a day and ride around on are bikes.

I'm not too sure what leg lifts are either, I have an idea but I don't know. Squats will work your entire lower body and are a great workout. I would highly recommend those.

So I've been seriously slacking the past couple weeks as far as working out and posting on the boards goes, yet somehow I've still maintained the weight I've lost... I have been walking a lot and trying to stay active but that's really about it.
I tried on my schoolgirl uniform today for my Haruhi version Konota from Lucky Star, and was actually pleasantly surprised with how well it fit (I was convinced it was going to be WAY to small) and my legs looked better than they used to in a skirt, so all in all I'm pretty pleased with the progress I've made, but I know I have to quit slacking or I'll gain all the weight back again >_<

Well, I was eating a lot healthier, and dropped 24 pounds. (still am by the way. xD). I wasn't doing much in the way of working out though. =X
but.. I started a job today, and I'll tell you.. it IS a workout in itself. xD I'm suspecting that it'll help in the weight loss department anyway. I'm sooo sore. xP
Won't be cosplaying this year though., I just don't feel comfortable with it at my weight. =( .. Next year though!

Back when I checked out this topic when there was only like 2 or 3 pages, everyone had a solid plan and mostly carried them out. It looks like people either cut down on work on they're promised routine, or it's just spontaneously working out on some days.

Really? That's a relief. I've never really hurt myself before, so although I was limping pretty badly and my ankle was really swollen, I didn't think it was that bad. At least I didn't have to wear a cast :)

In addition to working out hard, it's also important to eat healthy too! :D I hear eating smaller meals throughout the day and doing aerobic exercise at least 3 times a week is good. I also just started strength training, working out my abs and and legs. Weeeeeee~

I've been biking back and forth from my mom's to my dad's house almost all summer, and I can actually see (and feel) a difference in my upper legs. They look thinner, and actually match my calves xD. I'm going on a bike ride with my grandparents, mom, and brother tomorrow.

Sit ups aren't going to get rid of pudge, jogging and other cardio will get rid of the fat. Doing sit ups will just get the muscle stronger under the pudge.

BUT! I have been doing some others things. I started going with Hidamari and her mother to a pilates/yoga class in Tigard every Tuesday morning and it has been really fun and I've felt the change already. ^^ I also took up a ballroom/Latin dance class with one of my other friends. It's Thursday evenings. Of course I still bike when I can, walk the dogs, and work on sit-ups, bicycle crunches, and push-ups. It's been far from what I originally planned, but it's helped me from gaining more weight and I've lost a couple pounds, apparently. (Though it never looks like it to me. >.>) My diet has become healthier over all this summer which has helped. ^^ (Bye-bye, Poptarts~) Though I do have the occasional sweet, it doesn't hurt. :P
Anyways, I will be pushing myself a bit more since K-con is sneaking up so quickly.

ya, I was somewhat blessed with a decent matabolism, so it's easy for me to fit into smaller clothes. But I do about 20 sit ups a day, and pretty soon, I'll be upgrading to doing more again, but I'm to lazy to do other things.

So durring my pregnancy I put on 50lbs. Ive have lost 60lbs since he was born.....I look better in last years cosplays than I did last year. *Proud*
Things working in my favor: Cooking home meals, doing baby excercises (hes a good 20lb weight to lift!), Dealing with really bad colic for 2 months= not sleeping or eating normal scheduals, and being active

So I gave my friend my measurements a couple months ago so she could sew my cosplay (I have no sewing ability) and she got most of it finished, so we're trying it on me last weekend, and its way big, so we go 'Huh, that's wierd!' and she measures me again:
Well whadya know, all that excercise worked, I'd lost a couple inches in my waist and my hips so that's why nothing was fitting.

I'm trying to lose about 10 pounds before the con.
Here's my method (my mom has been doing this for weight loss/ keeping off weight for the past 7 years :P) :
Find out the RMR (resting metabolic rate) of the weight you want to be. Click BMR & RMR Calculator (http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php)
For example:
I'm trying to get down to 115 by the con. Just by living, a person with my height and my desired weight (115) burns 1,519 calories a day. I can have 10,640 calories total per week.
I use a spreadsheet to keep track of the calories in the food I eat, and I eat as if I weighed 115 pounds (Adding exercise in negates calories if you accidentally go over the calorie limit.)
Here's what my data is like for today: (I woke up at 11:30, so I wound up with a brunch instead of breakfast AND lunch)
1 Buttered toast 170
Yogurt 170
mochi 60
drink 25
soup 130
mochi 60
Pocky 67
For a total of: 682 calories today.
I also jumped continuously on the trampoline outside for 15 minutes, which negates -305.25 calories.
So I have ACTUALLY only had 376.75 calories (but I'm gonna eat some popcorn now...which is about 300 calories for a bag)
I started yesterday, and I have already lost 1/2 a pound :D I am also making sure to take a vitamin supplement (just in case :3)

Its good to cut calories and I hate to be mean and rain on your parade but if you are only getting 600 or so in a day that is very very unhealthy. You will start to lose muscle that way instead of fat because your body will think it is starving.
Also are you a vegetarian? If not then you need to get protein in you. Even if you are I noticed that you are really lacking in it. You could add a little peanut butter to the toast to give yourself some.
If you eat the full 1500 calories you wont lose weight so instead of cutting it in half you could take to 1000 and you would still lose weight and your body wont go into as extreme mode as it would if you only ate 600 a day. (I could be blowing this out of proportion and this could be one of the few days you done this but just in case it isn't).

When I first started cutting down I wanted to do the extreme as well, but then I read about the losing muscle before fat and that was the very last thing I wanted to happen. I find that the best route is to eat what you want, but only when you're hungry and make sure it isn't all junk. (One snack is alright; we are only human~) But then after that, exercise so that you about equal out what you've eaten. Remember, you need calories going in to stay alive, but to lose the weight calories going out are the most important. But you need energy to do that. Good luck~

it's true, if you cut down on the food. Your body begins to believe it's starving, so it feed's off your muscles. But what's worse is that when you do eat something, your body converts that all into fat so as to replace the good fat you lost. So don't lower what you eat in any way, but eat better foods is all. Plus exercise in some way so as to shape yourself.

You actually shouldn't cut out snacks, my nutritionist says to lose weight and maintain health it is better to eat small portions throughout the day, currently I'm supposed to eat six times a day, just small portions, it keeps you full all day instead of eating a lot when you do get hungry.
You should have breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up, a mid-morning snack, a light lunch, an afternoon snack, dinner, and then if you stay up late you should have a late night snack too.
Also, if you drink some water before you sit down to eat it will make your body think it's full faster so you don't eat a ton.

I've actually been eating about 1000 calories a day- the count from yesterday was low because I woke up so late.
Yes, I am vegetarian. And yes, I do make sure to get protein. We often eat food with beans in it, and fake meat is textured vegetable protein.
I've been drinking the correct amount of water, and I drink a glass before eating so I feel more full.
I've still been snacking :P Just in moderate amounts.

So, ever since my hub busted on my bike, I haven't been able to get the wheel true, so I haven't been riding my bike NEARLY as much as I wanted to this month. Probably under 80 miles in August (compared to around 600 in May). As a result, I AM STUPIDLY OUT OF SHAPE. D':
But I walked from Washington Park to my house in Southeast Portland the other day, which made me feel better about myself. :>

I've actually been eating as much as I can to get back up to 140. No matter what, though, walking 4 miles to work, 10+ hours of work itself (still on my feet), and another 4 miles home keeps putting me back at about 133. Maybe I have a fast metabolism.
I considered eating fast food and drinking soda again (I haven't done that in some 4 years), but that stuff isn't very hygenic...

Yay! I'm not the only one here trying to get UP to a healthy weight!
Pasta seems to be the only thing I can eat that won't just burn up right away. Try that. Also, if you drink milk, make sure you're drinking whole milk, and consider adding creme. It'll taste better, and you'll be adding UNSATURATED fats to your diet that your body will make better us of than saturated fats. Avoid sugars and saturated fats, in favor of fiber, protein, and unsaturated fat. If you're not vegetarian like I am, make sure meats that you eat are lean, and high in iron, unsaturated fat, and protein. Avoid salted meats when possible.
A few other things you might want to add more of to your diet are:
Rice
Lentils
Avacados
Black Beans
Cheeses

Rice and pasta are cheap (so those are always on my shopping list), but doesn't starch turn to sugar? Yeah, if there's anything I drink besides water, it's either milk or juice or tea.
It sounds like a lot of people are doing an excellent job of exercising, though.

Starches are essentially complex sugars. They're mid-way between sugars and fats. As a result, the provide an intermediary carbohydrate which the body will start burning before converting fats. They also don't trigger the metabolism into overdrive like sugars do.

I have to dance to get Yuna's dress off of me. It's shaped so the bottom part of the top(a little above the hip in the back) is smaller then my bust, so it's hard and I have to wiggle in ways a human shouldn't have to wiggle to get the thing off. XD

The top doesn't; because there's no back on Yuna's Wedding dress AT ALL, it flops over. I need to get some gown/skin tape or whatever. Someone suggested I try lingerie stores and Fredericks of Hollywood.

Maybe a halter neck? I did that to one of my cosplays (Freya from Chobits) because the dress has no shoulders. You could use clear or matching straps.
I've also heard of tape or something that can be used to hold the costume to you, and is temporary, but I don't really know about it...
Also, make sure you have the right kind of underwear to go with it.

I though of that. but the front of Yuna's dress is smooth and had I used a tougher fabric then thin silk I could have. I would have still done it, but only thought of boning AFTER finishing the base dress. DAMN MY BOOBS!

I feel that way sometimes, but at least you didn't drop or gain a cup size right after finishing it, right?
If you had a bustier that matched, and were okay with incorporating into the dress, you could sew it in as a lining.
You could also do a strap across the back and have it tie or be elastic.

There's also the wings that can help hide things; in the actualy FMVs, the wings cover the sides of the dress from side view, unlike in out of FMV scenes apparently. So that'll help.

Alright I just got back. For those of you trying to lose weight if you have access to a treadmill I have a work out that will burn calories like no other. If your treadmill has an incline setting put it all the way up to the top and just walk. I burned almost 500 calories in 40 minutes. There is a girl that goes to the gym that runs about a 7 or 8 minute mile and she will do that for about 2 hours and I found out that if she ran for 30 minutes and I walked up hill for 30 minutes we would burn about the same.
Don't get me wrong it is hard and tiring but it is easier than running to me. I am not winded afterwords I am just tired, my muscles are exhausted.

It's true that walking at a fast pace will get you a really good work out. I go running every day and that's a work out but I face paced a couple miles the other day and my legs are killing me!

Hello everyone this is Animeman73 here. Well in terms of shaping up for the convention I'm a martial artist :). I have one or two sessions of Taekwondo every week. Also I've got a morning exercise regiment that I 've slowly been incresing. Currently I'm at 50 leg lifts, 50 sit-ups, 80 crunches, holding up my legs 3 times for 15 second intervals, 50 push-ups, and 50 squats and I do this regiment everyday or at least most everyday :D. With my school about to do it's little performance for Kumoricon I have to get myself in the best shape I can. You can do this too if you focus and discipline yourself. And thanks for having this discussion.

It's hard to do much of anything on a bad wheel so to speak. I know because I've actually injured my ankle while doing roundhouse kicks at my Taekwondo school. As I said take it easy :).

It's sweet yet annoying, cause all my new clothes are too big, and the pants for my cosplay this year I bought at the end of last years convention. When I tried them back on again a couple weeks ago, I started freaking out cause they were huge. Luckily, my friend who I now share a pant size with, just bought a pair of pants and let me have them and alter them for my cosplay, so now I am good!!! :3

oWo Aparently I lost weight; wetn bra shopping and I've dropped from 32 DDD/DDDD to 32 D/DD I didn't think I'd lost weight; the doctor said I'd actually gained about a pound since she'd last seen me(I'm about 120 now). So where'd it all go? o3o
If you have been working out, and you gain weight, you have to remember muscle weighs more then fat. You probably lost some fat and gained that muscle in its place. You should feel great that you gain muscle even if you don't lose weight. You now have a stronger body that can do more, and requires more energy, reducing the amount of fat you store because the new muscle uses it for fuel instead. Shaping up is about building your body muscle and removing exes fat, not losing pounds. Girls with toned bodies are HOT!!(guys too) Be proud of yourself, but ya.. If you don't eat about ~12% fat in your diet you run the risk of losing size in your breasts. Your body needs some fat to maintain itself.
Looking forward to seeing all the shapely peeps that have been working hard to get their figures in top condition to fill out those costumes. I even have been doing some weights, but probably not enough :(

I just added something new I've just added 25 leg lifts, 2 15 second counts of holding my legs up, 40 crunches, 25 push-ups, and squats to my workout and it feels great.

I've been in Sun River all weekend. When I'm not on my iPod checking here, I'm either biking, walking, running, swimming, tennis, or doing other various activities. If it wasn't for the good food I would say I would have been down at least five pounds, but alas~ *sigh* >>. Last summer hurrah my family calls it.

I went to the great wolf lodge, and when I was not running around doing the magic quest, I was runing up a bunch of stairs many times to go on the water slides. I probably went up 2 or 3 miles worth of stairs by the time we finished swimming.

Good. For some reason it seems like I've lost fat but I'm not seeing it on the scale. I should have been using my fat calipers before I started working out and eating healthy again. ^_^;

You wont see fat loss on a scale if you are building muscle at the same time. Depending on your level of fitness/strength before you start, compared to that same level currently, will tell you a rough idea of why you have gained, lost, or stayed the same weight. Like I've said before, getting in shape is not about weight, its more about endurance and strength(and some other good stuff). If you gain strength your muscles, which weigh more then fat, grow and you might gain more wight in muscle then you lost in fat. You will look better and more toned however. If you gain mostly endurance, that's about the build up of your mitochondria and efficiency of oxygen and energy throughout the body. Basically you are going to be able to work longer but be use the same amount of energy, though its probably more energy use then before you started exercising, hence loss of fat (notice I did not say weight loss). Anyways, hope everyone enjoys their workouts and bodies and keeps it up, go you!

losing weight for this year didn't work for me, but starting today I plan on losing at least 30 pounds by con next year.
My plan:
Join Gym - DONE ;D, I am going to Curves 4 days a week
Eat better - DONE ;D, mom is vegan so 3/4 of the food I eat is already healthy for me (still eat meat).
Plus Curves has this great calorie counting way of losing weight that dosen't make me feel
like I am dieting, all it really helps you do is eat less. Which makes me feel great.
Weight - Currently at 210 pounds (overweight).
Thank you to the person that started this thread it makes me feel better that I have other Cosplayers
to talk to about this instead of a bunch of people who don't know what it's like trying to find a
character who you'd love to cosplay as when they all happen to be a size 6 to your size 20 :'( :'(

Well, I used to use weight as an excuse not to cosplay ("well, that's be fun, but I'll do it after I lose 20 pounds..."), but I've learned to stop doing that and just cosplay for the fun of it, and focus on losing weight for the sake of my health and the feel of my body, but not to let it stand in my way of fun (within reason, anyway--I'm not about to go walking around as Naga or anything). However, cosplaying can still be a great incentive!
I've been losing weight for the last few years (it stops and starts as my body hits plateaus...damn you plateaus!), and just got a WiiFit to go with my roomates Wii, so I'm pretty psyched for weight-loss this year. I'm also focusing on trying to be more flexible and fit, more than anything else. Yay for good poses!

I hope you understand what calorie counting is about. Its only about limiting the energy you take in. A more healthy approach is to watch the type and amount of fat/protein/carbs you take in, not just calories. You can eat 2k calories of fat or the same amount of carbs and its going to do different things. In a lot of books I've read, a good base for the total percent for the three types of fuel look like this. 20%fat 20%protein 60%carbs(complex carbohydrates) Remember, these are calories not volume, BIG difference. On a 2000 calorie diet this equates to about 44grams of fat, 100g of protein, and 300g of carbohydrates. I hope my math skillz are working or some people are going to be all over this :D
@oslapedo, there has to be ONE good picture of your face, I thought that was like a rule.. One good picture per con, but it might be a funny picture and not the kind your looking for hehe.

I did pretty good over the summer. I didn't get to my goal but I was quite happy with where I was. Now that I know what I need to do to lose fat off my legs I can work on it more and try to get to my goal by sakuracon or next kumoricon when I wear Kuja again :P

I did well for the first half of 2009, then crashed quite self-destructively.
My new goal is to get back on track and work out consistently for the duration of the year, at least thrice a week and cut the crappy foods once and for all.

its hard to get back into my routine D: its like I set my alarm for 5:30, and It wakes me up yeah, but then some how 30 minutes pass by and crapola i need to be in the shower now and didnt do my work out.

I'm walking my dog everyday in the morning and in the evening unless I'm at another person's house, and when I'm heading from one place to another, I usually walk. The only and BIGGEST problem that I have is limited the junk food.

I've lost 27 pounds over the summer. But.. seem to have lost my motivation after the con. LOL.
I just got our elliptical back from my brother though, so hopefully I can get the motivation to start using it every day.

Ya okay, motivation drops for most people after their goal date has passed. You just need to find a new motivator, or revise your old ones to keep you going. Next year's Kcon is far away for those that don't go to other convention/events, we need something more to keep us exercising. Here is a small list of all the reasons to keep your (My) workout going, add stuff to the list that will help motivate YOU!

I understand what you are trying to say. My weight has not stoped me from cosplaying it is one of the few things that helps me to get away from reality once in awhile and just forget about all the stress I have. I will never stop cosplaying. And yes I am doing this for my health as well.
I also think it would be a great idea to start a cosplay workout group with others in the area I would definetly go.
I live in SE Portland but can get anywhere the Max goes, if anyone is interested.

Yes it says hikes, but that doesn't mean some of the same people from here don't want to do other things like a panel or just a workout group of cosplay loving freaks.

it is part of a grand plan , involving finding a new job , not making goals that holidays will make hard to keep, at my current job i work till 11pm and then i go to bed , i have tried workin out befor work but it makes it hard to stay awake and its hard for me to get enough sleep because i am a morning person , also part of it is i want to lose gradually over the next year 2010 till the next new years eve , cuz that's years resolution 2011 is to get started on starting a family with my husband, or is that too much info

I mostly just want to tone up. I'd like to fill out a little bit more, but mostly I just want more definition. I'm pretty much happy with my body as it is, although there is just a little bit of stomach fat that is obscuring my abs. I've lost it before so I know I can do it again. ^_^
As for the reasons, well, I want to be able to get lemon zest just by rubbing a fresh lemon up against my stomach. Naw but seriously, I do take my health into consideration (I don't do drugs, haven't had any caffeinated drinks in well over 2 years, etc.) Having a strong body is just part of that. Also, having a strong body helps keep my back from developing any pinched nerves like it has in the past. x_x

Making a family is an awesome reason to get in shape and healthy! As for the resolution that's up to you, but you don't NEED a specific day that only comes around once a year to start. Every second of every day can be a new start! If you are having trouble working out before work because you get tired, there are 2 reasons beyond getting into more information that I can think of. 1) Not enough food, you might not be feeding yourself the right type or amount of food to keep awake the hours you are up. 2) Not enough sleep! If that's the case, and you can't change your schedule, well.. that sucks I guess. :/ If its not those then you might try working out just before bed. You won't have trouble staying awake that way! You might actually get better sleep :) As long as you figure it all out and everything comes out SUPER!! that's what matters, so hope your plans go great, however you do it.

Make 25LBs of jello in a bucket and see how much that is. That's about (weight difference basically adjusted *I think*) and that's the volume you lost! Cringe and be amazed at what the human body stores, and the will power you have to remove that much unneeded survival supplies from your body. :)

So I was getting dressed this morning and jokingly decided to try on my favorite pair of pants from Junior year (when I was my thinnest) and to my surprise found that they actually fit!!! Granted it's still a bit to tight for me to feel comfortable wearing out of the house, but at the beggining of Summer I couldn't even get them over my thighs so I'm pretty excited about the improvement.

what was my resolution? foot ball. Sure its getting me in shape but now im missing a finger nail, have several cuts, pulled a muscle, and about 5 bruises.
I some how feel i should go back to yoga instead.

Today I sped walked to the library because I thought it would close before I could get there. Turns out it was open for an hour later than I thought. But it gave me some exersize.
I am actually thankful that i have PE this year. It actually gives me some exersize.

@xxxchihiroxxx NOT THE NAILS! Ya so umm.. football is not the best way to get in shape if you don't want ANY physical defects done to you, also not the best for muscle gain. On the other hand, its a lot more fun way and can yield cardiovascular exercise to a lot farther extent then any weight training can. Weight training really doesn't do anything for your cardiovascular unless you do not exercise in any other form, and it only helps to a point and then levels off. Not great but better then nothing!
Having to buy smaller clothes might be a pain on the pocket but its also great for getting more attention on that pocket ^.^
Chocolate cheesecake does not help your diet, but that depends on what you ate that day. If you are exercising regularly it does not hurt your diet all that much as long as you don't eat that kind of food often :)

That is the thing I miss the most about high school...PE & free weight training :(
Now days I work so much that there isn't a lot of time for exercise...luckily I do physical labor so it helps some but not in the same shape I used to be in.
One thing that ireally helps me is never eatting to get full...just content. Also instead of candy, cake, etc. for sweet toothes, I just eat a piece of fruit. And the biggest help of all...don't keep junk food of any kind around for snacks(god I love junk food though...;;), instead I just buy fresh veggies and stuff like that.
