Title: Japanese Urban Legends
Post by: TomtheFanboy on March 08, 2010, 03:58:50 pm
There's hundreds of Japanese horror movies that have people dying from things that are supposed urban legends. The Ring and One Missed Call are good examples.

I recently found this article.

It's title is pretty, self explanatory. One of the ones that I'm most amused by is that virgin women were kidnapped so their blood could be poured into power lines for insulation.

Have any of you heard of actual Urban legends that circulate in Japan these days?

I think the "Slit-mouth woman" is the most recent one I can think of.

I found this interesting link which has some fun urban legends:

I thought of doing this but you have to be careful when separating what's a real urban legend and what's a this-manga-only legend.

Wait.... "real urban legend"?  Is that an oxymoron?

I love legends from any sort of culture, be they urban or otherwise, but I have to say that the Japanese have some of the coolest and creepiest ones. I really like Kuchisake-Onna: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuchisake-onna
