This is now a makeup help/tips/your random stories thread.
GO?!
-
Ok. given that this is seriously a ridiculous look, this chick has got some pretty good tips when it comes to Sailor Moon makeup.
Honestly, I would skip the entirety of the eye make up and at the very least halve the shine.
Here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i5qkSxF60U
I like the eyebrow, blush, and lip ideas.
Anything around the eye area get's a bit "No thank you" for me.
-
Shine on my white skin would look aweful. I just want even looking skin.
Maybe the products might not work, but something like the technique might. At the very least it's worth a shot. I would definitely do the white eyeliner to the pink rim thing and try applying blush lower than normal.
Her Snow White make up is a little more cerebral.
-
How about how to hide facial hair? D:
-
How much you spend on basic makeup: GO.
-
I buy makeup over time and acquire hand me downs from my mom. I don't know too much, but I don't have anything against Wet 'N Wild eye pencils. anything else seems to flake off easily.
Uh, foundation wise, I'm happy with my Neutrogena liquid foundation which wasn't all that much. My powder foundation is Clinique and I love it. It costs more. I've got a Yves Saint Laurent eyeshadow compact from my mom, and it's great quality, but I'm sure it was not cheap.
Mascara was about $5. it's the pink bottle with the lime green lid. The stuff is fantastic and easy to wash off.
I'm all over the place, I guess.
-
I really hate expensive brands like Loreal and Revlon. I mean, I have products from them, but I've bought from cheaper brands like e.l.f. WHICH IS FLIPPING AMAZING and NYC color and their stuff works just as great. Of course, the cheaper brands still have their weak points, but unless it's necessary I usually try to find the most inexpensive thing possible.
... Is it weird that I've heard of all these brands listed being in dollar stores? 8D;

..I need to learn some makeup tips for a couple of my costumes..and am most likely going to have to wear lipstick (orange.. o.o) for my twi'lek unless I can find something else that'll stay on my lips for any good period of time.
How about how to hide facial hair? D:
Best way to do this is to not shave a couple days before hand, then either shave while taking a really hot shower or right after. A new razor helps a lot too. That'll give you the closest shave you are going to get, really. The rest would be up to makeup if you want to it even more, like Dana said. Checkout cosplay.com for this stuff, there's a lot of good information on there about this very thing.
-
Sorry guys, double post.
Reason why e.l.f. sells their stuff for so cheap is because they do minimal to no advertising at all, and they use cheap packaging. Their prices are cheap, but their products are amazing for how much you pay for them~
Interesting. I may look into getting that.

OK, well, that might not work too well.. but.. maybe! XD And on the plus side, your lips would taste delicious!
-
Face paint will dye lips really well. I had a purple upper lip for a day when I did the Kusuriuri. The packaging even warned that it could dye eyes and lips. Of course it wears off after a while.
danayoki: I agree. There is no shame with makeup on men. Especially for cosplay. Makeup just makes things more polished. Guys, if you need tips, ask them here. I'll gladly help you out!
reppy: Jury's still out on how to hide five o'clock shadow.
-
.....I forget. Been so long that I don't remember what I have in my make up kit.
Lets see what I remember. Eyelash, blush, foundation, eyeliner
Am trying to figure out best color on lipstick. and blush isn't the right shade I think.
-
Tommy (Jack Sparrow) wears a lot of make up for his Jack Sparrow, and will have to wear equally as much for his Xemnas xP
I am horrible with make up >>
Whenever I put it on, it looks cake-y and gross.
And I have never attempted eye-liner, because I would poke my eye out.

... I'd love to do your makeup for you @ k-con if you allow me to :>
Yes!
That would be super duper helpful :D
-
Dana i tried the e.l.f. concealer and I liked it.
ALSO A WORD ON THE "MAGICAL" Mascara with the Pink bottle and green lid. IT SUCKS. it does basically the opposite of what its supposed to do. It makes you look like you have five lashes or something. I didnt like it at all.... =3= waste of money.... as for me I would try any maybelline mascara except for that one : P
Otherwise Im all fine on makeup. I wear it like... everyday... o3o
-
ummm I got the 'tone correcting' concealer.... I dont think they sold the 'under eye' kind at target...
-
I find that with the green top/pink bottom mascara, if you wipe off a lot of the goop when you first pull out the wand, it works really well. Sometimes that clump look is good, too for dramatic eyes. I had an Estee Lauder make up saleswoman teach me that technique. You can see lashes a mile away by sticking a couple together.
I use it everyday with great results, but if its not for everyone its not for everyone.
Another makeup tip: paintbrushes are your friends.
-

You think you can go over my make up work when you get the chance?
I think Chikaru is only time you've seen me in make up x_x
-
EYELINER? D: D:
I can do the upper lid fine, but the lower... I NEED HELP D8
It just doesn't go on... My eyes tear up and it doesn't end up showing owo
-
any ideas on how to do .. red Facial hair for Cross ?
-
You want a quick way or an authentic way?
Quick - Red Body wand and just draw it
Authentic - Get some fibers the same color as your wig (even maybe from the wig if you need a trim). Spirit Gum the fibers to some mesh. Then you Spirit gum the mesh to your face.
This is how I put on my beard and mustache for Thorin Oakenshield.
-
Mostly I need a list of good products to cover up my oily skin and acne. Y'know concealer, foundation, powder..and anything else that might be appropriate. Course, I'm only willing to go as far as Wal-mart, so it can't be online-only or terribly expensive. Also I fear for melting, so all the -proofs are good. Suggestions plox?
-
I dunno about concealer/other stuff brands, but to avoid melting you should get a setting creme or spray (I prefer spray)
-
My skin used to be pretty oily too, but I started using 'epidou' the prescription acne medicine advertised on TV. It's spendy, but a little bit goes a long way, and it really works.
Another thing that is good for oily skin is the 'Clean & Clear' oil removing pads. It works too. Remove the oil from your face then put on your make up. Carry some with you, and when your face gets oily again just wipe it with the oil pad, and it should get rid of just the oil :D

those. are. lifesavers.

Hey I was wondering if anyone had tips on an eye make-up style that would make your eyes look...manlier? I don't know how to explain it but I'm a crossplayer and I need some tips on make-up that isn't obviously girly and could make my eyes look...well non-girly..
If you know what I mean at all...
-
I need suggestions on concealer pleeease ;~;. I have and always have had ugly under-eye bags. I think it's a heredity thing or something ugh. I've tried a couple different concealers but none really worked that well. Any suggestions?
-
Yeah. I've got one. It's about $22 so it's on the higher end of things, but it's awesome. It's called Ooh La Lift from Benefit. It says "Instant under-eye brightening boost" on the back. I use it a lot before work. I found it in Seattle on my annual girl trip with my family. I had HORRIBLE purple bags under my eyes, and a makeup counter lady helped me out.
If you mix it with a little foundation, it works really well. It's shimmery so the light reflects rather than the purple of circles.

Oh god, thank you! I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I'm a crossplayer also, so it depends on who you are crossplaying of course. If your trying to pull off a bishie it's best to keep your eyeliner thin and light, usually I go over my eyeliner with powder foundation which makes your eyes look 'frosty' [thats what my friend told me], but if your going for a more 'manly' look a good way to look less girly is to have dark eyebrows. Thick eyebrows look ugly unless if your aiming to be. If you are going for the prettier men I don't think you should worry too much about looking manly. Do you have a picture/link of what you are going for?
-
Well I'm on my phone right now so...no but you can look him up on photobucket
Taito Shion, VOCALOID.
And thanks for thw reply <3

Thanks! I like photo 3 the best, it's so cute...
I <3 taito ; u ; ...poor emo bitch
-
So for Taito I think you need to do all the basics like foundation... etc...
I think its safe to use a bit of eyeliner, no mascara and If using eyeshadow use it for contouring only/or enhancing that "dark circle" look (which I think Taito would probably have) so it would be safe to use grey, or brown eyeshadow...
I think thats all. and also you probably dont want your eyeliner to be too sharp to blend out the edges a bit with a q-tip. You should try doing some tests and posts some pics for critique. ^^

I love makeup.
Recently just learned how to wear red lipstick and very heavy make up (stage make up). But the lipstick looks gorgeous and really pops. It's by Rimmel London, and I feel pretty glamorous when I wear it.
To make eyes look larger:
Wear white liner on inner rim of lid on the bottom. Curl your lashes then apply mascara. Apply shimmery white or gold shadow into the inner corners (near nose) to appear more awake as well.
Apply blush on apples and upwards towards ears for a natural look.
For a less natural, apply to just apples. Or off of cheekbones for a highlighted effect.
-
Ok, here's a weird question. How do I lighten my eyebrows? Mine are fairly dark and I'm planning to cosplay a blond character. Advice?
-
Oh awesome, thanks!

And fake eyelashes and circle lenses. yes.
I heard circle lenses are dangerous to wear every day though. (Like the ones lady gaga wears!)
-
if you take good care of your lenses/eyes they will be fine.
-
Speaking of circle lenses (there's a thread for those, isn't there...? Ah well) , any recommended places to buy them? I was looking at a Korean store, but I wanna keep my options open.

I was looking around to find a good technique for a "crying" look, and i found one that works pretty well. All you need is mascara, eyeliner, and warm water. Put on the eyeliner first, and base how thick or thin it is on how emotional you want your character to look. The thicker the eyeliner, the darker and more heartbroken the face will look. Then, put on a TON of mascara, re-apply several times so it's nice and thick. (Don't worry if it gets all clumpy, that can easily be fixed at the end). Next, run your finger through warm water and let drops fall onto your eyelashes. Something my friend tried is using warm water in a eye drop container, and she says that both ways work with equal outcome. The warm water will run down your face, bringing some of the mascara with it and creating the crying look. Another point I should make is that the water needs to be applyed before the mascara dries, otherwise it won't work.
Anyway, it may take a couple tyys to get it the way you want, and when your satisfied you can take your mascara wand to straighten out your lashes if you dont like the way they look when you're done....
I hope this helped! (my friend wanted me to post this so she had something to look back on.....hi, by the way ;D)
-
"crying" look doesnt mean you get a lot of makeup splattered........ it might be that the character doesn't even wear make up....
if one is looking for a crying look I suggest something like "puffy eyes" and really bad dark circles....
idk how to achieve it tho....
-
Tee hee, maybe it's not such a great tip after all....oh well, back to the search engine! (And sorry everyone)
-
If you wanna look like your crying..i say just think of something sad and cry :D /shot
-
If you wanna look like your crying..i say just think of something sad and cry :D /shot
The saddest thing I can think of......would probably be seeing a bunch of Hannah Montana's at an anime convention. Seriously, one look and I burst into tears, hoping a merciful Train Heartnet from Black cat will put me out of my misery.......or let me glomp him. Actually, I think I may prefere a glomp. and a picture too. Man, I wish Kumoricon were here already ;o
-
dana is the eyeliner waterproof or do they sell a waterproof formula?
I need to find a good art-liner so I can do Miki's body art (the robotic marking stuffzzz >_>....)
-
I need a makeup tutor =n=...lol. I never wear makeup - ever.
(Except for cosplays)
Its really sad too, i've put on foundation and concealer a total of maybe 5 times, and eyeshadow even less.... /fails at being a girl. XD
-
So believe it or not, I use make up in my cosplays as well. But not just any type of make up, I use STAGE make up.
Being the amateur thespian I am, I have practiced time and time over with this stuff and it's incredibly useful.
For my cosplays so far the I've used with Lupin the most, it allows me to appear to have thicker side burns, covers up any nasty blemishes (at the cost of creating so much more), add age lines if needed, give me a tan or make me even lighter.
Anyone else use stage make up around here?

ask me for tips, i'm kind of a makeup geek/nerd/guru/thing MAKEUP IS NEEDED IN COSPLAY IMSRS
I think I just suck at applying makeup period D:
Like eyeshadow, with me it's always too light or too dark so i gave up on it. XD
I can do eyeliner just fine, it's just the eyeshadow that seems to be the very bane of my existence.
@ Meep: pointers and tips would be welcome <3 you are entirely too nice to me D:

also Dana could I get that liner at a drugstore? o3o
also what brand is it...? o3o

I fail as the make-up type wearing girl, so I has some questions >.>
I have a HUGE problem with mascara. No matter what I've bought in the past (dont ask me I dont really keep track of that kind of stuff) I always get racoon eyes by the end of the night. Is there anything that can last me through a con?
Also, I'm looking for a lipgloss/stick that will last for hours. I bought something once (dont remember it) it was a lipstick that you put some clear gloss over and it wouldn't come off unless you let it wear off a couple days or got the remover. I need something like that.
And finally, I need a good concealer and never used or bought it before. Same with a highlight pencil. And whats the difference between foundation and powder? I know theres liquid AND powder foundation... (prefers powder foundation)
All suggestions must be limited to the confines of the cheapness that is WalMart.

For mascara try either a waterproof formula or fake eyelashes?
There is no way to get lipgloss to stay on for hours and hours. Probably a matte lipstick that stains would work the best. But for gloss/shine you have to keep re applying
Foundation: use liquid then put the powder on to set it.
SPEAKING OF FAKE LASHES I FINALLY WENT OUT AND BOUGHT SOME! :D
I love them!
You can get them for a 1$ or 3$ at target depending on the kit you buy. (I bought the 1$ one)

BRB GOING THERE TOMORROW
UM IT WAS SOME OTHER BRAND BUT THE SAME PRICE LOL AND ON THE SAME RACK (I THREW AWAY THE PACKAGING SO...)
I still have your purdy nails XD
-
yeah that was something else lololol
I had to buy some other stuff too XD
-
Ok, here's a weird question. How do I lighten my eyebrows? Mine are fairly dark and I'm planning to cosplay a blond character. Advice?
I always bleach my eyebrows with the face safe bleach that like, middle aged ladies use for their tiny mustaches, and then pencil in with eyebrow pencil whatever colour they're supposed to be for each costume.
-
Oh! Speaking of eyebrows, what about making blond eyebrows thicker for a male character? I'm cosplaying Zell, and I have blond eyebrows, I just need to know what I should do to make them thicker? ???
-
Um.. I'm kind of new to using makeup (I use foundation/concealer daily, but I mean mascara/eyeliner, etc)
Anyway, I was wondering since I've always had trouble getting eyeliner off, what are the best makeup removers?
And also wondering on recommendations for eyeliner/mascara and nude colored lipstick/gloss? And where to get them, please ;w;
-

DRUGSTORE STUFF IS THE BEST. (or target lol)
As for makeup removers, you want to be very gentle with your eyes. You could buy a drugstore brand. But I like using olive oil to remove make up. It gets it off the best and Is natural.
Just get a cotton pad, dab it in some olive oil, close your eyes and wipe off the makeup.
-washing your face afterwards recommended-
-
@Meep; Thanks~ I'll definitely follow your advice c:
-
what are the best makeup removers?
Baby Wipes! Even the dry ones! Okay, know what your thinking, (okay, maybe I don't) but unscented baby wipes are what I use to get all that eyeliner and whatever else I've used on my face off. It's gotten lipstick, foundation, CoverGrey, and eyeliner out of my eyebrows and of my face. <3 That stuff.
I'm having the same problem as sound, but I have really dark eyebrows, I covered them with the new bottle of CoverGrey I got and the lightest they got was matching my original hair colour, light brown. Or should I just add something on top of them after I apply cover grey? (I ask way too many questions ^^;)
-
Got bored. Have before and after pics! o:
Before: no makeup, no smile. Not even a notsmile. just... slack face. Looks pretty dumb.
After. Makeup, smile, good use of lighting in the room.

So basically, makeup can do a lot, but it can only take you so far. Read up on posing and such if you want good pictures :D
-
Okay, so I have a question for you guys orrr.. more of looking for suggestions.
I'm not good with makeup, at all.
I don't usually wear it and I am doing Magnet Miku and Wendy Testaburger.
They both have pretty basic makeup and I wondered how to go about that.
But make it stand out, ya know?
-
Oh! Speaking of eyebrows, what about making blond eyebrows thicker for a male character? I'm cosplaying Zell, and I have blond eyebrows, I just need to know what I should do to make them thicker? ???
I would get a brown eyebrow pencil and fill in your eyebrows. After this, look at your character. Since it's a video game, obviously they look nice and neat but if he was a real guy would they be a bit out of whack and wild like most guys? (Some guys have pretty nice brows but most are just ugh.)
If you want a smooth look, just gradually outline your eyebrows little by little with the pencil until you get the desired thickness.
If you want a bushy look, take the pencil and kind of draw wild lines. Don't go overboard! Just like a few little lines to make it look unruly. How many lines you do changes the style of the look. I would say to practice in your bathroom until you get the desired look.
So, put on your wig and do all your make up and then do one eyebrow one way and the other the other way. Cover half your face and look at one side then the other. See which you like best then wash off the side you like least and try another if you have another option.
-
Alright! Thanks Dana! <3
-
So it goes.... concealer/liquid cover/ powder cover.....
Whats the best cover up for shinyness? I always get shiny -__- not appealing in cosplay pics.
And about those fake eyelashes, I think I would rather deal with those then messing with mascara (mascara just hates me!) is one pair reusable or to you need a new pair for every day? I do have very wattery eyes I guess, I'm going to really have to try hard NOT to rub them during the con no matter what I get.

shiny stuff=too much oil in skin
dont use oil based stuff or anything with sun protection in it
lashes are reusable. just makesure you take care of the well.
-
Is there a trick to putting them on and taking them off
I've heard stuff before like you can pull off your original lashes and what not. *creepy*
-
I am trying to find a good foundation. I had acne when I was in high school so I have quite a few scars on my face so I need something thick to fill those in. What is everyone favorite foundation and why? This will help me try to find a new one. :D
-
Asking for some help here before I go to my other favorite resource.
So my boyfriend and I are really upping our Baccano! cosplays. I've got mine done but we need to work on his Isaac a little
One of those things we need to work on is his eyebrows and sideburns. He doesn't want to wear a wig yet because his hat covers up most everything anyways (He's never worn a wig before and I don't want to put him through cowboy hat and wig all day), but we do need to replicate the parts that stick out. I was thinking about using eye shadow but I'm worried it would smudge everywhere. Do anyone have any ideas on what we could use? Money isn't a problem.
Also, I don't do men's makeup much but if anyone has any other suggestions like...doing that contour stuff of shading things that would be cool too.
(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa164%2F-Boogiepop-%2Fisaac-miria_top2007.jpg&hash=a9f4a6a50e735b5f7c8af0ce16da614f3177ed08)
-
Boogie, I wonder if you can get a rough sponge or brush and use that for extra hair effects. It would be worth a shot. Just buy a crappy bristle brush and mush up some eyeliner. Dab it in, make short strokes on the cheek, and that should look like hair or close.
Or you can go to Freddies and try for the $.25 machines for an adhesive sideburn. XD You'd probably end up with some sort of awesome mustache instead.

You could also go to the Halloween store in Beaverton to get spirit come and crept hair. It comes in a braid and you cut what you need off and spirit gum it to yourself. http://www.mehron.com/Crepe_Hair_p/120.htm I know one Halloween store has it (I was at Halloween Warehouse yesterday and didn't see it but that doesn't mean it isn't there).

Adding onto Nikki's post about the Crept hair...when you get it, get some "mesh" backing. Spirit Gum the hair to this backing in the style you want it and then gum the backing to your face. Then, you can keep the side burns for later use and you don't have to completely remake them. And if stuff falls out, it's an easy fix.
This how how the costume mistress made my beard and mustache for a play. (I know it looks weird but on stage the colors all go together and work really well in the beard. It just looks weird up close and off stage. |D) But this gave me the ability to wear it every day I needed to without restyling or worrying about it being out of place because the backing held it all together.

ughh, i need idea's and help on making or figuring out Cross's darn facial hair

Clap
Buy red crept hair and if they don't have that then just trim your wig a LITTLE bit and use that so it's the same color.
Buy backing and then gum it on and then to your face.
If you get the backing then I can do the rest. Just remind me to bring my spirit gum to K-Con and we can do it in my room...

ah . i'll talk to my mom. she had a idea actually that I didn't bother to listen to ;;

Alright, I bought some stuff and tried it for the first time. It took waaayyyy longer than it needed too -____-
Fake eyelashes- yes or no? Other tips? lighting sucks btw. Which one do you guys think would be better for my character, she is young like 15.

Hey, looks really good. For young characters I recommend the fake eyelashes & eye liner like you've done. I also recommend more blush and making the lip area smaller. Use a concealer stick and lip liner pencil to outline the lips bringing the edges down sooner than your natural line and filling in the lips with a brush from your lipstick colour. This gives the young girl image.
Slightly lighter colours for eyeshadow, blush and lipstick also give you a younger girl impression, so playing with colours is useful.
Hope that helps,

I think all cosplayers should wear makeup. Even guys.
xDD
Agreed.
Unless they already fit the character.
Frankly, guys wearing eye makeup would scare me. o.o

Lol, well guess you're going to be scared as I wear makeup for all my cosplays both girl characters and guy characters.
I did theater in college and have separate makeup sets for each of my characters (it's also hideously expensive I can assure you)
As a cosplayer you're trying to copy a 2 dimensional drawn character. In order to do that you have to mimic what the artist drew and actually flatten your features a bit and even out skin tones which by nature are not even in real life.
I have helped organize and been part of several Crossplay panels at Sakuracon and last year at Kumori. We talk alot about makeup and other techniques for copying characters no matter what the gender.
So yeah, from my experience the best cosplayers I've seen (and win competitions) all wear makeup including eye makeup.
Cheers!

Aaah. I see where you are coming from.
Sorry if I offended you. Dx
I just come from a small town and have never seen a guy wear makeup, that's all.

Oh heavens no, I'm not offended. I address this question all the time. I totally understand the small town feelings. I also come from and live in one and No I do not go outside in my cosplays here. It wouldnt' be accepted or understood.
Successful cosplay/crossplay is also about understanding when NOT to do it.
Even tho makeup and even skirt fashons in history were developed by men for men,(women wore long dresses and men wore skirts for ease of movement) it's culturally different today.
I do consider the classic "suit and tie" to be a modern guy's cosplay and occasionally I do see modern men wearing light makeup and groomed eyebrows & lashes which I think looks great.
See, isn't cosplay educational?
Cheers,
Kato

;3; Okay so hopefully it's alright to just ask a question instead of sharing tips ('c-cause I really don't have any OTL), but I have a 'beauty' mark on my face and foundation doesn't cover it super well, so would concealer work? >o<;; It just sorta doesn't go with my cosplays and I think it looks derpy. XD

I am trying to find a good foundation. I had acne when I was in high school so I have quite a few scars on my face so I need something thick to fill those in. What is everyone favorite foundation and why? This will help me try to find a new one. :D
I might be a little late in replying, but this is honestly the best high coverage foundation I have found: http://www.us.boots.com/IntelligentBalanceMousseFoundation/
I really don't mind paying good $$ for cosmetics since I don't wear make-up that often and really care for my skin. That said, I've been REALLY impressed with that line and use the mousse foundation with a foundation brush (don't bother with a sponge) and I also use the day cream, which I started using after Clinique raised their prices again (over $40 for a smaller jar) and it works just as well for me.
I've found that for most of the face make-up and skin care stuff it's not worth paying extra for the department store stuff. I DO however spend more for my eye make-up and lipstick (gloss doesn't matter as much). You'll notice a huge difference in quality between say Revlon and Dior eyeshadows (of course a HUGE difference in price as well).

Full facial coverage in silver and black paint stuffs! XO Which is actually the easiest make-up for all of con! XD So glad I took theatre make-up courses.

heeey whut about tips on' make-up for MANLY MEN COSPLAYS?

heeey whut about tips on' make-up for MANLY MEN COSPLAYS?
Oh I think I can help there. Obviously it depends on the character but in general one way to achieve a more masculine face is to use a darker foundation under the cheek bone to give the jaw line a more defined shape and then blended with a neutral matte foundation for an even shadowed appearance.
You can also sponge in the darker foundation along the beard areas to give the impression of beard stubble. How aggressive you do this depends on the character.
Also making the lip area smaller-less full looking (concealer stick and neutral color) plus making the eye brow area bushier with the same dark foundation/eyebrow pencils creates the less feminine look.
Practice helps alot so you know how far you want to go with it.

I need .. uhh ... I bought some makeup the other day at the store. Talk about 30 minutes of awkward silence as I walked up and down the several makeup aisles. Thankfully, I had my cell phone out that I kept checking (to look up what I should buy), thus perhaps giving the illusion that I was, you know, communicating with some hot babe that is my hypothetical girlfriend. So hopefully the reaction was, "Aw, that guy dressed in all black with the metal t-shirt on is getting makeup for his girlfriend!" and not "OMG, CREEPER ALERT!! SECURITY!!!"
Anyways, I'm completely lost now. XDDD
Here's what I bought:
- Concealer (eye)
- Red lipstick, pink lipstick
- Mascara (black)
- Eyeliner (black)
- White sparkles xD
- Coconut* lime body mist
* I have a strange draw to coconut. If I'm at work, head down, busy, and suddenly I get a whiff of coconut scented anything, I stop what I'm doing and look around to see where it's coming from. Then I take a moment to enjoy the smell. It really is almost intoxicating to me. Like, I feel like I'm in love, haha. And find myself wishing I could follow that person around that smells so nice. D: Luckily for me, common sense prevails. As much as I enjoy the smell of coconut, I fear the smell of pepper spray. xD
I probably need a few other things, too. Can anyone make some suggestions? I'd like to buy some color for my nails, but I'm completely lost as to what all that would entail. Like, I'm going to need to be able to remove it, yes? So what do I need?
Anything else for my face? Powders? Blush? I don't even know what these things mean, but they sound important!
Also, the whole .. 5 o'clock shadow thing still persists. Gotta figure out how to cover that. I heard covering your beard area with a red lipstick, blending it in, and then covering with concealer works .. but .. I tried that last night and my face just looked pink. xD Then again, I may have done it incorrectly.
Any suggestions? D:

I think I can help here too. I'm one of the crossplayers who ran the Crossplay Panel at Kumori last year and at the last few Sakuracons and this is one of the topics I cover.
First, yeah shopping for makeup if you're a guy can be embarassing but if you go with friends it's not only alot more fun but easier.
If you're solo, I sometimes make a list of what I'm after and pretend I'm buying it for my girlfriend and they help me with the list.
As for makeup, you have a good start. Most important thing is to buy it for your skin tone (foundations) and also buy it for your cosplay character. For example for my Vocaloid character, I need purple tones. For my Princess Princess Mikoto I need pinks.
So depending on your cosplay you will want:
-2-3 shades of eye shadow
-mascara or false eyelashes
-orange concealer
-foundation
-neutral powder
-blush
-lip liner pencil
-eyebrow pencil
-good quality eyebrow tweasers
-eyelash curler
-brushes
-sponges
-qtips
-eye makeup remover
-general makeup remover wipes
-nail polish remover
-nail files
-nail colours
The beard stubble can be a real trick. You combine really close shaving, moisturizing and then apply an Orange corrector tint.
They make whole corrector colour wheels to correct for different tones/problem areas.
I get alot of my makeup from TG cosmetics here: https://www.tgcosmetics.com/home.asp (https://www.tgcosmetics.com/home.asp)
Look at their tutorials and also their foundations/correctors. I can help you with some of the finer points if you need.
Here's their tutorial page: https://www.tgcosmetics.com/tips/tips.htm (https://www.tgcosmetics.com/tips/tips.htm)

Weee just found the "How to Cosplay Vol. 1 Transformation and special-effects make-up" issue! So much great advise.
Reppy here is some advise from the book on you stubble issues. Use a concealer thats close to the shade of your stubble and put that lightly over the area where the stubble is at and extend a little farther into the face. Then take a color thats slightly lighter than that and extend that even further into the face than the last cover. Then apply a small amount of red-tinted foundation. It even warns not to overdo it otherwise you draw more attention to it! XD Finally go over it with a light semi-translucent powder then go about putting on the rest of your make-up although if you are putting blush on you may want to do it before that final coat of powder

Yeah, thats a great book. I use it alot as examples in my Crossplay Panels. I'm looking now for some of the other cosplay books in that line.

I need to tint/color my eyebrows for varios cosplays. Right now they are a dark blonde color, but I need them lighter for one cosplay, dark blue for another, lightish blue for another, green for another, white for another, and dark blue for another xD how should I go about doing this? I tried the painting one for white eyebrows before, but it looked slightly silly and was ichy.
-
Did you put glue on your eyebrows before painting them?
-
yeah
-
I found the same eyeliner used in the pirates of the Caribbean movies for johnny depp (I guess thats telling you how anal I am about my cosplay) :o
i basically just use a powder to get the tan on no liquid

thanks!
I have to get white eye liner anyways. I'll look for the eyeshadows today~

Take a wet paper towel/towel and put them over your eyelids for about 10 seconds. It should loosen the glue up.
Thanks 8D
