I was wondering, who exactly is in character alike myself when in cosplay. For further example, I am in character when in Tamaki cosplay. Like acting like the character. Wanted to know who else does that? Its fun actually. :P
-
When I crossplay Spock from Star Trek: TOS, I have to basicly force myself to not laugh, or show emotion, I find it really fun.
-
Thats awesome! :D
-
I'm pretty full of fail, useless, and happy-go-lucky normally so cosplaying characters like that, such as North Italy, just comes naturally. I like to cosplay characters that I don't have to try to be in character for. 'cause then I'm in character pretty much all of the time. Or something. ' w ';
-
With Spock, I'm probably more on the emotional side of Kirk, so being Spock makes for a good challange.
Most of the other characters I've cosplayed have been easy to get into character, like Roxas.
-
Yeah, agreed. Like when I was Tamaki cosplaying at the mall I was doing a greeting outloud on how I finally arrived. xD Then managed to throw my rose down to the first floor and other stuff.

I agree with this *laughs*
I can pull of Simon really well, and England too, but other than those... eh... no >>
If I'm with my Haruka, I sorta pull of Michiru. But she's so much... sadder than me Dx
-
I'm with Auricle on this as well. I try to go with characters I can relate to the most that don't take too much effort to impersonate. Since I'm super quiet to the point of being barely there (I've actually had people in a group go "Whoa! How long have you been there?" while I've been observing the whole time, lmao), I feel that Canada is like my destined cosplay. xD
Then again, there's the occasional character that totally doesn't match my personality that I cosplay out of love for him/her. Kagamine Rin is a perfect example. ^_^

I have this to say:
Being in Character while Cosplaying is best when only done at the right times.
When someone takes your photo: A good time to be in character.
When someone calls you out as the character: A decent time to be in character, but don't over do it.
Anytime else: There is no need for it. If you are doing in when unprompted, you are trying to hard.
And that is that.
-
I do it for fun. :D
-
I try must best to stay in character...
I usually cosplay characters that I am like. Like with Rufus shinra, I act like big boss man a lot. I usually also have people who bring out those characteristic in cosplay from the same group, like my friend Reno who awaken my inner rufus.
Sometimes have to work on it though. As Tamaki I can play his idiot side pretty well, but I sat and watched the anime to get a feel for his charming side as well.
-
woohoo!
-
I tried my best at it (Integra 2003, Luna Lovegood 2009) after years of LARPing in the SCA & at pirate events, it just seems natural to be in character
-
Ummm Miria I guess for me. I'm not terribly in character though since I don't copy every move that my boyfriend does.
When I cosplay Empowered though I will just have to act like myself, and that will be easy. I have it down to the crying even.
-
HAHA when I'm cosplaying Len, I'm a completely different person.
Cool, and player'ish. ;DD
-
During shoots, I'm as much of the character as I can be. The rest of the time, I might shift some of my behavior a little (be more mannered for Austria, more childish for Sealand, more prone to EMPHATIC EXCLAMATIONS OF DOOM as Dib) but I don't really have it in me to give up my personality entirely. I want the people I meet at con to meet me.
-
I don't even have to try to be in character with Ukitake. I could try but it would come out badly, so I just play it natural. It helps that I have friends just like Shunsui, Kiyone and Sentaro and I have as many siblings as he does. It also helps that I can go from silly and superficial and fun-loving to deadly serious and calm in a heartbeat.
-
I always act, talk, and otherwise behave like the character i'm playing. It was so much fun acting like Vash. I'll probably tone it down for wesker, cause I dont feel like being a huge douche
-
Well at cons it will be you, its fun to act but not the whole time. :D
-
Acting like Daisya was too much fun! :D I loved every second of grinning in photos and all that jazz.
Sister Finland is going to be fun this year... Take drinks of rootbeer, point fake dagger at people, and glare like someone just threatened to burn your computer to death.
-
I tend to be more or less in character, although often it's my own silly twist on the character, not how they'd actually be acting. For instance, as Mello last year, I kept pulling my gun on people, and generally acting like an asshole. But it was so much fun.
And I always cosplay with friends, so we kind of build our own characterizations of the characters. It can be quite fun. :)
-
I strongly believe that there's a time and a place for it. For photos? YES, definitely! For panels and events? Absolutely! But if you're just talking to people or are out in the general public around the con-space? No.
It's important to know when it IS and when it's NOT appropriate to be in-character. I mean really, if I were to act like Sweeney Todd I'd get arrested. :/ As much as I do enjoy offering people shaves. You just need to use your common sense and good judgment.
-
lol. Yeah, I know there is always times to be yourselfs. And I just act in character at times for fun. :D
-
As Frank West I was pretty much in character (I think he had one) most of the time, since I was con photographer I could always make a random comment after taking someones photo "FANTASTIC!" or "High PP Score!" something like that.
As Henry this year...I think I will just wait for photos or something like that, acting like a smug assassin all the time might grate on people's nerves.
So yes- Time and Place usually but it honestly depends on the character, if it is someone you only have to tweak your natural personality for just a bit then why not? But if it is an extreme character personality then I say leave it for the appropriate time.
-
I think that being in character is perfectly appropriate at any time, depending on the character. When I'm Sora, I can be completely in character and it isn't a bad thing, when I'm someone like Renge (OHSHC) I would get arrested if I were in character. I say, it all depends on the character.
I would advise not being an ass-hat just because your character is, because people won't see it as your character, they'll see you being an ass-hat.
Just sayin'.
-
Being a voice actress I do tend to use my character voice for the character I'm cosplaying.
But I don't generally take on different mannerisms.
That aside from during photos or sometimes walking down the hall I try to act more like the character just for fun, but meh~
-
"I am going as Nuriko in His guy outfit, its going to be fun bulling my friends just to get my way, if I ack all stuck up or tough when you come to talk to me, its because I am serious when cosplaying my characters, and its not the real me, have to be all serious most of the time as well when Im really outgoing.
-
When I cosplay as Vexen, I have to try and act distant and use as many big freakin' words as I can remember. Oh, and just look as creepy as possible. That's how I stay in character. For my other two, Roxas and Leaf (pokemon trainer), all I have to do is smile a lot and be myself.
-
Awesome!
-
I enjoy being a serious character like Integra...the only thing I can't pull off is the British accent. I fail at accents XD
But I try to stay in character as often as possible just for fun. I hate it when I talk too much so Integra will be a nice change for me ^_^
I live for Role Playing so anytime I can do it, I will!
-
Roleplaying is always fun!
-
I was the Yachiru from Bleach Cosplayer last year, that got a lot of glompe hugs it was so fun playing a little girl showed more of my outgoing personality, I would some day like to Cosplay Lina Inverse all my friends tell me I dont even have to ack as her XD what they find funny is I really really hate slugs irl and this was way before I even knew The Slayers show.
-
maan , I love being in Character when cosplaying ~ kinda gives that awesome effect of fun and endless memories
Its going to be odd this year as I attempt to cosplay Cross marian from D gray man , lol .. those who know him - will understand XD
and I love being in character for Roy mustang ~ so much fun
-
Haha, awesome!
I was suppost to be cosplaying Allen but...it didin't work out.
-
Deciding between two characters who I can cosplay as, small chance I'd go as both.
But..one of them I'd get kicked out if I tried to act in character.
I'm not so sure about the other, I know he has a lisp though =D
-
Sweet!
-
when Kefka is ready, it's gonna be crazy
-
Yeah, its like that with me too. Like when I am in my Tamaki cosplay I am a prince like person. Y'know!? :D
-
I practice a lot before cons when I'm bringing out a new cosplay.
It's ridiculous, actually. My parents keep calling me out on it.
Dad:"Sora, you're being Rose again."
Me: "Oh, bollocks. I need my practice!"
-
when Kefka is ready, it's gonna be crazy
Oh god! I'm already looking forward to that XD Kefka FTW!!
-
"Im going to try and Cosplay Lina Inverse next year, heh I wont need to act like her, as all my friends say, who's acting?
I even hate slugs irl and they found this out way before I even watched The Slayers.
