Its always fun to see FF cosplay so let's get some more! 2011 I'm cosplaying cloud strife; advent children. If anyone else is doing a final fantasy cosplay let's do a photoshoot!

I am DEFINITELY doing Arc next year (playing FFIII right now and GOD IT IS AMAZING AAA).
And maybe a Devout Arc as well because damn it, that's the cutest costume I've ever seen and I want it. Seriously. It's a white jacket with kitty ears on the hood, red santa boots, a pink shirt, and a giant freaking bow.

It's what I get for spending SO **** LONG ON IT >> I made the pattern from scratch, researched the hell out of fabric, figured out the true color of the jumpsuit by looking at in game renders and the FMVs where she's not lit up like a christmas tree, studied... studied... studied a bit more... Figured out how to bunch the sleeves without showing any line or seam in the arms from elastic or anything.. @.@
... can you tell I love FFIX and Garnet yet? xD

With all that studying, you show a lot of love for FFIX and Garnet. xD I only saw photos of your Garnet cosplay on your Facebook and hope to see it in person; both the jumpsuit AND your dress. :) It seems like you put a lot of effort and time into it. :D

Yeah, absolutely. The last time Kumoricon was in this area, 2007, it was the best year for me. The parks are brilliant and there are so many perfect photo locations, especially for a FF theme.

Pff...yeah, I'll make it, if it isn't declared canceled due to rain, then retracted to an isolated group of people...that's why 2009 ticked me off so much. I was ready for the meet-up, but was told it was canceled...then told an hour later that I had missed it.
Hopefully, this year will go more according to plan, and we can actually do the meet-up. I have really wanted to meet the lot of you, and I hope to get some quality shots and interaction ^_^

The disgustingly pretentious titles Square is releasing ('Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy', 'Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy'), for one. I know that is completely superficial, but it is a huge turn-off for me. I also am just pretty fed up with Square and how they are milking the FF series. I loved Dissidia, but I really don't see a need for a sequel. I am not particularly hyped about the features of this new game anyway. Just seems like needless tedium, considering there will probably be no storyline whatsoever (and storyline is what I enjoy the most about FF games).

With a few exceptions, I chose to believe all the FFs after 10 aren't true FFs. And, well, IX is the best game EVAR, so I'm content with that... -coughcough- xD
Which reminds me... third episode of the FFIX fandub I'm in as Garnet got released >3< I am so so happy... and my Garnet is TEH UBER BRITISH xD -pouncing off the walls with her happy-
And Final Fantasy PSX titles have NEVER looked better than they do emulated on the PC. I'm capturing footage for this dub from Episode III onwards (Episode III was the last one released), and I am flabbergasted by how pretty it is on my PC in 1366x768 fullscreen O-O
Same with FFVIII, which I'm also recording for a dub. So... s-so pretty O-O
Once I own VII myself, I'm gonna try that one... haven't tried VI or V yet though. Might tonight. It's just... so... pretty... [/redundant] xD

That's the FFIX one. I just started the FFVIII one... with my new mic that doesn't fail spectacularly (my new mic is Garnet in Episode III; the one in I and II is the fail one xD... Episode I and II also have the fail footage, while Episode III I captured myself)
Still getting the cast together for FFVIII, but I'm mixing and editing the footage right now.
The reason she's British is the girl running the FFIX fandub is splitting up Gaia by accent. Lindblum is American, Alexandria is British, Bermecia is Australian, Cleyra may be Australian as well, but possibly French or Russian, Conde Petie is Scottish, etc. etc.

So for my Final Fantasy cosplay progress, I already commissioned someone to make Tifa's suspender straps for me. In addition, I am currently styling Serah's wig. I noticed the Tifa wig I ordered was a bit short, so I am using that wig for Misora's cosplay and will order a longer wig. I still need to order Stella's wig as well and need to create Tifa's midriff, gloves, and boots soon. X_x For Serah's boots, I just need to paint the boots a lighter tan and fix up her skirt a bit. Ugh! Dx

I will be doing a mainstream: Summoner Yuna. It was originally planned that I was going to be Yuna in my group of friends that are going with me. We were going to have a Seymour, Rikku, Lulu, Moogle and Yuna. But they all bailed on me after I started making it, and I figured that I was already far enough into it that I may as well finish it.
I'm also considering Oerba Yun Fang simply because I have fabric for her cosplay. And we have the same eyes/hair more or less.

As much as I like Final Fantasy 7 and 9, I've noticed that a ton of FF cosplayers dress as characters from those games. I felt like it'd be a good idea to throw in something different, so I'll be cosplaying Locke.

I hear you on that, PaladinCecil. VII and IX seem to be the major fan-favorites, although recently I've been pressed to wonder how many who cosplay from these games have actually played them (you just get the feeling that a lot of the younger crowd are cosplaying a character because they saw someone else doing it, and they liked the character, so they do it without much of the personal gaming experience the slightly older crowd may have...like a reflection of a reflection). Just things I think about...
but yes, there's definitely a steady supply of VII and IX cosplayers (and I'm one of them, lol...but at least I've played the games *snarkypompoussnarkyvoice*). I'm all about the obscure, underrated characters, so I'm happy to see you stepping out and doing Locke. ^_^

No promises, but I'm going to try and go as Shotgun Turk from Before Crisis or possibly Original Game Yuffie...and I miiiiight be able to coerce my dad into going as Veld with me as well! I finally got the right wig for Tifa, her black skirt, earrings, and is in progress in making her red gloves! Yay! I just ordered the white tank today and when I receive it, I will start turning it into a midriff. The items I still need to get are shoes, sculpey to form those elbow armor and ones on her shoes, and her suspender strap which I already commissioned the person to make it for me.
For Stella, I got the small cardigan and the black dress. I still need the long blonde wig, boots, items to make her sword (if I have time), some jewelry, and blue eye contact lenses.
For Serah, I got the wig, the costume, and the shoes. I just need to make her accessories, paint the shoes tan and white, and also re-dye her wig since it's too bright. Plus, I will be using the same blue eye contact lenses as well.

Glad to see your Tifa is making progress, OokamiYami. I...still haven't started on any of my cosplay. Still got four months though. I still have so much physical conditioning to do before I can make any clothing items. It's tough. I have to get to the right shape for my cosplay, so I can't start working on anything but me, lol.

Just took a look on my gun-arm for Barret that I made in 2009. Still in good shape, nice and solid (I get so paranoid about my props...as if time alone will turn them into dust over a year or two). So, that's good! The weird thing, though, is that it is now too short for my arm. I am pretty sure my arm has not grown any longer. (I've added mass through strength-training, but not length (how's that even possible?).) So, I need to add some discs of craft foam to the base to make it longer so most of my forearm can fit inside it. That shouldn't take much at all though. So, yay for that!

How's everyone's costumes coming along? *bump*
I have a question about costume integrity. Looking at the art and character design for Barret, it looks like the glove on his left hand goes up the same length of his forearm as his gunarm does on the other arm. In the art this is acceptable since there is only an inch or so of forearm shown due to perspective, but in reality this probably would not look right or be practical. So, what do you do in this situation? 100% accuracy or adapt the costume to realism? I would think obviously I'd just make the glove go to the wrist like normal, but then that art keeps bugging me and I'm not sure which would be the better way to go.

Usually we don't really have "official" photographers at the shoots. It is more like everyone just gathers and takes their own pictures and commingles. I know in past years there have always been several photographers around the area, but I don't think we (at least in the FF group) have actually "reserved" one so to speak for the shoot.
Could be a nice change though if that is what you had in mind or if that is the way the shoots happen now.
And how are you two cosplaying from Versus XIII? That game isn't out yet, is it?

im having a bit of difficulty with rydia. aperntly i've gaina bit of waight sence i started working on her. right now im doing some work outs and cardio to try to get back to the way i was so i can fit in it better. but if i cant get done with that in time my fall back will either be terra or rinoa (whom im working on atm)
also anyone know were i can get dancers tight for a good price?
i also vote day 2, mainly because its looking like the sailor moon one is on day 1.... and i cant wear anything BUT beryl that day with out massive amounts of pain xD stupid long nails

I'll need to get caught up then. I think I only saw one or two trailers for Versus. But I adore what I saw. The characters and settings are so much darker and seemingly more metropolitan (a la VII's Midgar) than XIII's, so I am really stoked to see more of that game.
All that serves basically to say that you're cosplays will be well-received, heh. And yeah, that sword does look mighty awesome. Let me know if you need any help or tips.

I saw some new character shots for Stella, but it's mainly for her white formal dress and her new hair style. I don't know if she will be wearing that same black dress and the short white cardigan though. It's hard for me to tell and I like to be very precise and accurate. x__x; And her rapier sword looks so difficult to make. T__T; It's going to be my first time making a weapon.

I'm bringing back my Aerith Cosplay (My first cosplay only it will be re-vamped.) And Lucrecia Crescent. I'm hoping to fix up Lucrecia as well. I was thinking about doing Game-Tifa but there are so many other Tifa's that are probably gonna do a waayy better job of it than I can so Imma knock that one off the list. ^^;;

I got my costume in the mail today. Everything fits but two things. The shorts fit for the most part. They are just tight on the hips so I have a bit of a muffin top, BUT if I wear the belt right you don't see it at all. Other than that I love the shorts. They are really short and make my butt and thighs look fantastic.
The other thing that doesn't fit is the holster type thing that goes on my thigh. My thighs are too big, stupid muscle. But it is an easy fix. I just need to add a little bit of elastic to it and it will fit just fine.

i got the wig today. I took a progress shot. The wig was not like the picture so it will take a little bit of work. Its coming along though. This is the first wig that I will actually have to do the whole proper way to put on a wig (the pin curls and pinning the wig to my head).

Yes I am going to tighten the top up, but I don't think I can tighten it up too much since the zipper of the costume is on one side. =/ The wig is kinda small but I imagine you had the same problem as me, it slips off easily right? I found while trying it on if I used clips it stays in place, so when I actually wear it I will use wig pins to hold it in place and it will work just fine.

There is gule on both of them right now to smooth out the tape I put on. I put the tape on to smooth out the edges. The weapon is ready for resin but I am going to wait till the shield is ready too since I only have a small amount left. After I put one or two more layers of glue I will do a layer of resin then paint and I am done 8D

Its really easy and everything is very cheap so that is a plus.
I don't think I am going to get the shield done by tomorrow since the last two days have been horrible for me emotionally and I haven't worked on anything. I am going to try to get it done as soon as possible though. Right now I am mainly looking for some powerful magnets for the shield. Once I find those I can put the resin on, sand and then paint and I should be about done.

I think having two shoots will be a great idea since it is very popular. Depends on what the times are.

That's actually a pretty acceptable idea. I like the freedom of having two shoots, and while I would worry that maybe some run the risk of missing certain cosplayers or opportunities by only attending one, I would most likely attend both, so I dig the idea.

Alright do we want to play around with times then? I would say noonish on Day 2. I imagine most of the panels I will want to go to will be like 3 on so any time before that will work for me. Also keep in mind that the cosplay contest is typically day two, around 5 or so.
As for Day 1 I wont be going so I don't want to give too much imput on the time. I may show up to take pictures as long as it is not at noon since that is when the Avatar shoot is.

Hey, I know that this is a little off topic, but I'm hoping someone could help me out with something...
My girlfriend does imvu, and I saw someone dressed up like a court jester with a feather in its hair. She said it was someone from a Final Fantasy game. I'm pretty sure the name started with a "K" and she said it was the devil at first, then made it sound like it was just a bad ass. Could someone shed some light on this character for me, please?
Oh, cosplay related, I think I remember seeing an old friend of mine cosplaying this character at Sakuracon '07, but I can't really remember...

I am just about done with rikku! I made the orange arm protector thing last night. I just need to sew a little more and its done. I need to fox the tan glove just a little then thats done then all that us left is to order the boots and sew the ruffles on my backup shorts

Just fixed up my Lucrecia Skirt and bought a new lab coat =] I still need to take in the shirt though. Sadly, I wont have colored contacts this year because I cant afford it but I will just color my eyes in photoshop =]

I have done everything I need to finish Rikku. The left glove (the tan one) may look crappy and strange when it is not on but it actually looks pretty good when it is on. My boots are ordered so once they arrive the costume will be at 100%. I am going to wear the costume to a meet up tomorrow so I should have one picture of most of it (minus the boots) and will post it later tonight.
I need to get a picture to submit for cosplay chess.

My Tifa gloves are complete! I also got the red boots and I just need to put the armor thingy on the left boot. I bought this platinum pink acrylic paint to dye Serah's wig and also got leather paint to repaint my Serah's boots. I am so close to being done!

Indeed! This should be such a great year for the Final Fantasy cosplay, because I've always felt Esther Short Park is an ideal location for FF cosplay. Kumoricon 2007 was the best for just this reason (to me). It's a very FF-esque location with nice, reminiscent structures and features. Should be really great for any XIII cosplayers especially. Seems like an area from Palumpolum, heh.

I think it's pretty nice. The main feature I like is a massive clock tower with some statues around it (if I remember right). It also has lots of greenery and I think a water feature. It's just a really beautiful area that makes for perfect photos.

Yes, but they should be spread throughout the weekend so there shouldn't be much conflict...and the park is big enough to accommodate multiple shoots at the same time. It's never really been an issue in the past, if I recall correctly.
Oh, and Barret is now about 75-80% done. Huzzah.

I'll be taking photos of my Tifa cosplay in the morning. :D It's not completely done yet, but it is getting really close~ For Serah, my friend, Gina, helped me airbrush my wig and made it a darker pink, which I am very happy with the results. x3

So this is my Tifa's cosplay so far. It is still in progress. I still need to make the elbow and shoe armor, need to layer the wig a bit, and put the white bandage wraps on her right glove. Oh, need to shorten the skirt a bit as well and need to tone my abs too. x__x; Oh yeah, I need to change those suspender clips and hem the shirt. -_-;

You may have some work yet to do, but you look amazing already. I think you just have what it takes naturally to do a great Tifa, because you really have her look in that picture. Of course, those final touches, toning the abs and whatnot, will just be the icing on the cake. Looks awesome so far. I think the wig especially looks really nice. *thumbs up* :)

EDIT: Thank you, Eve. x3 I love Tifa so much, so I spent so much money finding materials for her and try to get every detail of her down. T___T She's practically my favorite character of all Final Fantasy. The wig was a huge pain for me to wear since it's so long. Every time I tried to tie it, it keeps getting messed up. T__T But I will definitely try to find ways to make it not mess up. :D

Will definitely be bringing back my Katana Turk and also I'll be Hojo with Black~Rose's Lucrecia. But more than likely I'll be Katana Turk more than anyone else. I love being a Turk so much and Before Crisis is very RARELY cosplayed.

So the Turk cosplays aren't too uniform and unparticular to you? That was always my problem with Before Crisis Turk cosplays, the fact that most of the Turks don't even have names, and there isn't a whole lot there to distinguish them from anyone else in a suit. Just my two pennies, but I could never be convinced to cosplay a Turk that wasn't known by name and had some sort of personality.
*Okay, I just did some research and it looks like Before Crisis Turks do indeed have backgrounds and stories, so I suppose that's better than I was giving it credit for. I still would never have much fun cosplaying a Turk because of their uniform, indistinct outfits, but I suppose as long as there is at least a personality, they aren't complete genomes (a la FFIX), lol.

For the staff if I could make a suggestion. If you use painters tape on the edges to tape the two sides together then use glue over that it will smooth them out and not make it look like two pieces of craft foam.
If you don't use glue and just paint over the tape it will look something like this (http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/246930_858250122908_19720534_41467104_2664267_n.jpg) where you can see the raised edges of the tape but a few leayers of glue over it will smooth it out to look like this (http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/267294_864335402958_19720534_41545342_1163599_n.jpg) I have just used plain elmers glue with no water added to it and it works just fine. Speaking of which I need to fix up the weapon a little since the varnish I put on made the paint crack =/

So something came up (more of I just thought of this last night) and there is a good possibility that I may borrow a costume from a friend and cosplay another FF character :D I really hope it does come through since I would have a friend cosplaying with me and I have wanted to do this costume for a little while now. I would just need to finish up the wig (which isn't much to do, I just need some extensions to add to a wig I already have), and sew one little thing. I hope the shoes she has will fit me.....OH and I need to find some bottoms that will work since she doesn't have them anymore and even if she did they wouldn't fit me (but now is the perfect time to look for them since things like that are on clearance right now, though Kmart doesn't have it, I've checked already :P )

So I mentioned that I would be doing a Scottish version of a SeeD merc and I've been working on a design for a sword and wondered what people thought. This is what I've got so far.

The design is based on a classic Scottish claymore with some extra flair to make it more final fantasy-y. This is certainly not the final version just was wondering what people thought.
Not sure just how much of the garden symbol will stay, I'm thinking just the main symbol and maybe the cross.

So it looks like I will be able to cosplay another FF character. At first it was just hope but it sounds like my friend can find most of the stuff and what she can't find wont be too hard to deal with. I already have what I need for the skit. The wig is almost done minus a few details, I will have to find similar boots and paint them, and possibly fix up the top a little bit more. But I tried on the wig (and those that are friends with my on FB saw a picture) and so far it looks great. I just need to buy some sort of extensions and get a few little detailing things to go IN the wig and its done. :D I am really excited to do this.

Yuna is taking a ridiculously long time, due to embroidery, so she's been tossed into question. (If I don't do her, I'll probably try entering Garnet into the Cosplay Contest instead, or just back out so I don't have CRAZY Yuna-to-Ciel costume changes over and over Day 2 >>)
Good news though! Celes from FFVI will make an appearance. n.n Sprite version, with some of my own design. I might make a cardboard and paper-mache sword for her, based on Jeanne d'Arc's Fierbois Sword. Meaning she may make an appearance as well. xD

I got these boots in gray at Wet Seal for $17 and I painted it with Angelus acrylic leather paint. Also, I applied the Angelus finisher to give it a glossy look and to seal in the color. :3

Great job on those boots! I was always wondering how to go about painting boots, and...there I go. Looks really great.
Also, great work on the wig, Rose. I think it looks way better currently, as well. The only thing I would suggest (and it may not even be possible since I don't know anything about wigs, in which case feel free to ignore this, lol), but I would curl up the left bangs just slightly. That picture makes it look straight, while her bangs are just ever-so-slightly curved inward at the end. I think a roller of some kind may achieve that, but I don't know anything about wigs, so, again...I may be talking out of my butt, lol.

I can give you some advice on the wig. You can curl it with a straightener, just don't leave it in the iron thingy for too long or else the wig will melt and I mean MELT. Just curl it fast and let it cool down. Then if it's not curled enough, do it again quickly. :3

ORR I can probably put hot water on a cloth, put it on a roller and curl it in slightly and hold it there for a while then let it dry. My iron gets too hot too fast.

Alright. I think I found some stuff at Micheal's that is supposed to work well on leather so I will give that a shot. I just don't think I have enough time to order something online before the con.

Try Acrylic paint. My friend used that for her Pokemon trainer boots and it worked.

I've done acrylic and it cracks like no other. This one says flat out of the product that it can be used on leather and will stretch and bed and prevent cracking.

I'm in a bit of trouble with Tifa. I can't seem to get the money for a wig >>
Yuna is taking a ridiculously long time, due to embroidery, so she's been tossed into question. (If I don't do her, I'll probably try entering Garnet into the Cosplay Contest instead, or just back out so I don't have CRAZY Yuna-to-Ciel costume changes over and over Day 2 >>)
Good news though! Celes from FFVI will make an appearance. n.n Sprite version, with some of my own design. I might make a cardboard and paper-mache sword for her, based on Jeanne d'Arc's Fierbois Sword. Meaning she may make an appearance as well. xD
you have my sympathies with the embroidery. our yuna also has her obi embroidered and I nearly lost my head many times and literally put blood sweat and tears into that damned thing. (yes it got washed xP) and it still went to Video Games Live only 75% done. but itll be done for Kumoricon!!!!! Good luck with yours, if not for this con I hope you get it done for your next event!

One of these days, could I get you to do a commission for me, for Hatori Sohma from Fruits Basket? His hair flips over to one side in much the same way, and you've done much better with a wig than I was able to do with my own hair. (Before I finally cut it a month or two ago, that is.)

So I posted in a few places here what my secret cosplay was (I am terrible at keeping them secrets) but I am also going as X-2 Rikku. I got a large portion of it done at this point. All that is left is hemming one sleeve and making the other, fixing a strap on the skirt, adding the yellow string to the back of the boots (I am so happy with the way they look), and smoothing out and adding some more details to the blades and its done. I am also waiting for a pony tail clip to make her hair longer since the base wig wasn't long enough.
But I am really excited for this costume. I love the material I got for the sleeves, they are perfect. And in general the whole costume is very comfortable.

I finished up the sleeves just a few minutes ago and I am so happy with the way they look. Now all thats left is to finx one little thing on the skirt (will take seconds, I just don't have the thread with me), strings on the boot, and the last touches on the weapon and I am done : DDDDDDDD

Mind if I plug mine to you? We are selling specific props, and the Rikku blades are on the list. We would make them out of wood, brass, and glass depending on what references you choose for Rikku (there are several inconsistent details in her x-2 costume) They're fairly heavy, but manageable, and they follow the peacebonding regulations of all cons I've been to. If you're interested, I'll be able to throw a price and some pictures at you, but I have neither on me right now.

I need to finish Rikku D: I think if I just paint the blades it will look fine so I am going to do that and see if I can stand the way it looks. Today I should finish the boots though (the only thing that I have left will take 10 minutes or so) and try to paint the blades. I am also going to attach the claw to X Rikku so that whole costume will be done.
Then all I will have to worry about is packing. SO I might be able to get a progress shot today for Chess :D (even though my pony tail clip hasn't come yet D: )

I used sculpey to make it and also used a metallic silver spray paint to give it a metallic look. :3 I might use a bit of charcoal on it to make it look like she has been in battle.

Good idea with the charcoal. Sounds like it should turn out really nicely.
By the way, how was it working with sculpey? I've got something to make out of it eventually, and want to know what I'm in for, heh.

It is not hard using Sculpey at all. Just heat it up for fifteen minutes or more depending on how thick it is. It's actually pretty cool once it's harden. :D

The main nerdy thing in our open spaces (other then the sewing table covered with cosplay stuff, which is mainly my stuff) is the signed Jayne Cobb picture I got for my birthday :3
I still have a bit of work to do before I am happy with my blades. I want to weather the blade part a bit more, and add the bolts between the gold part of the base, and I am still trying to smooth the gold part out a little bit more. Here is what they look like so far.

So I want to fix the silver on the edges to make it look less like a perfect line, I want to add scratchy silver down the middle to make it look like the red paint is fading, and (idealy one day) I want to make the edges on the round part more pointed rather than the block shape they are now. And then to finish it all off I need to put my gloss on it :D Please note that I didn't make these blades. I borrowed them from a friend (with the intent to buy them) and am fixing them up a bit

Well they look decent currently. Better than most. I think the weathering and some of those minor touches will really finish it up, though. And yeah, sharpening up the round part's edges will be a great move too.
If I encounter any weathering techniques I think would be helpful, I'll be sure to let you know.
It almost seems like painting silver, then red over that, and weathering that red layer away with a scouring pad or hard brush would be the best move. Or at least that's a thought that just came to me.

I really like how they've turned out. Of course there are always more things to do and more ways to refine your craft, so to speak, but I do think this is a really good-looking prop. I love it. :)

That's too bad about Tifa. Barret's gonna be a little lonely this year... :P
As for Yuna's staff, I'd suggest craft foam...but I suggest that with everything. Your idea will work just fine, though, I'm sure. Best of luck! Let me know if you need any pointers or advice. I'm much more prop minded than fabric or clothing-minded.
Also, I just took some test shots for Barret's waist-guard, and I feel really good about this costume right now. This is only to show the proportions of the waist-guard and see how it fits. The jacket in these pictures is not part of the costume, just something to show how much the vest will, essentially, cover once it's done.

I know the guard is a little too wide, but Barret's proportions are really difficult to replicate I'm realizing. I'm hoping to even out the proportion with my stance and vest, though. Wide shoulders, huge arms, and spread legs, lol. That's the ticket!

Well, Jo-Ann Fabrics has the rolls of thin foam, or sheets of thicker foam (which I have bought the entire stock of on multiple occasions, lol). I'd say for her staff, if you got, like, three sheets of the thick stuff, glued it all together and then carved it down, you could actually be in pretty good shape. This is just a thought though.

Craft foam, when you layer the thick sheets, gets really stiff. In my experience anyway. It's cheap, it's plentiful, lol. Just sayin', heh.

I like them, actually. I think the way the armor is smooth but dented and a little roughened works well. It looks awesome to me. ^_^

It's the cosplayers getting together and basically just battling in the typical RPG turn-based style. There's no real rules or HP or damage or anything that specific, but just a lot of people going through the motions and bringing the FF battle system to real life with their cosplays.
Like, at the '07 FF shoot, cosplayers representing Cloud, Aeris, Vincent and Barret lined up and battled a bunch of Turk cosplayers, just taking turns and doing attacks, just going through the motions essentially. It's so much fun! Takes the cosplaying to the next level. almost LARPing, but not quite, heh.

Actually, at akicon they are making something like that an event. It doesn't have to be FF cosplays but just teams of three doing the ff style battles. And the most entertaining team gets a cash prize. I am kinda tempted to do it XD

The plan is to sing 1000 Words (in Japanese), yes. I know I should be Yuna or Lenne for true accuracy, but I make a better Rikku. :P I felt left out last year being the only Karaoke contestant not in some sort of music-related outfit (or at least a cosplay that matched the series they were singing from). I think the Karaoke contest times might interfere with any photoshoot fun, though. I gotta take a look at the schedule.

I really, really wish I could. Especially with Heather going as both Edgar and Zidane, but I can't go to the Day 2 one. I have a panel that I'm heading (The Kuroshitsuji under 18 panel) that's 12:00-1:00pm. I wish I could be in two places at once though xD

I am nice and tan now for Rikku. I am actually quite pleased so far. I just got done doing a spray tan and I will know better by tomorrow if I like it or not. But I am much darker than I normally am :D

I'm considering doing that for Barret, because I have some sleeve-tan lines that will not go away (plus I should be darker overall anyway). But tell me...should I bother with tanning if I'm already brown? I mean, I'm not going to be able to get black (like Barret), so should I even bother?

When I was going to debut my Songstress last April, my friend saw me unpacking the boots and Googled Rikku just so she could see what it would all look like. I'm considering doing that for Barret, because I have some sleeve-tan lines that will not go away (plus I should be darker overall anyway). But tell me...should I bother with tanning if I'm already brown? I mean, I'm not going to be able to get black (like Barret), so should I even bother?
You can but you don't have to. I don't think it is really that big of a deal. If you do there is a cheap way (though it is a little late for this con) there is lotion that Jergans makes that gradually tans you over two weeks or so. I have used it before and will use it to make this tan last longer and it works really well.

Well my Final Fantasy 8 inspired Claymore for my Scottish SeeD mercenary is finally done and I'm very pleased with it.

I was thinking that I might get some blue face paint and do some brave heart style designs. Might be a bit much though.

Looks great so far. I think it would be good to do the blue face paint, but people might be confused.
As for the tan, I have mainly been looking at my face and arms and I have been quite pleased with it. When I got up this morning and got dressed I looked up in the mirror and I was super pleased. My whole body is a nice even shade and is super dark. Once I get off work I will put the top and the skirt on and take a picture. I just need to make sure that it stays this dark till Monday. :P So I am going to buy some more lotion today.

And that sword looks great, Zensuke. In one of the shots the blade looked really reflective, like a real sword. Is the sword actually reflective like that, or was it just an angle thing?

It does reflect light a bit but not enough to reflect images like it appears in one of the pics.

I really hope we can come! We have the costumes done since we have used them before, but Petra has since cut her hair and dyed it so we are going to see if we can borrow a friend's wig since we never had to use one before and she doesn't have one. xD This is the trouble of cosplaying without wigs!! :<

You know what? We have been cosplaying from Final Fantasy every year since we started going to KCon and this would be the first year we would actually be able to attend the photoshoot! I am so looking forward to it!

Yami, you just reminded me that this will be my first year cosplaying FF by myself. Usually my wife cosplays a FF character as well, but not this year. Hmm, gonna be lonely, haha (nah, I expect to see all of you at some point in the weekend ^_^)
