Title: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows film premier 11/19, cosplay
Post by: RemSaverem on November 01, 2010, 12:51:49 am
I might wait until 11/20. I'm taking my best friend for her bday this month.
When are y'all going? Who's going in Eugene/Springfield when? Who's cosplaying? As what?

I will be Professor Burbage.
(SPOILERS!!!!)

She is the Muggle Studies professor whom Valdemort feeds to Nagini at Malfoy Manor.
Basically I'm just wearing typical school stuff, a Gryffindor tie, a Gryffindor cape, carrying my (actual) wand--but being wrapped in a giant blue long tentacle, made by none other than Kumoricon's illustrious former con chair, Meg, such that it looks like I'm being enveloped by Nagini.

My prior HP cosplays:
random Gryffindor (every film release up to '08)
Luna with Spectrespecs (KC '09)
Luna with lion headdress (KC '09)
Aragog (the giant spider) on rollerskates (from Prisoner of Azkhaban, boggarts scene), opening of Order of the Phoenix film & book release of Deathly Hallows (yep, I skated through the mall & theater).

I was gonna put one up as well ^^
(still might, since it'd be for in Beaverton)

Anywhos, I'm hoping to go to the midnight premire...And I might be going as Ron, or if I can get one of my friends to go, Fred and George. Or I may go as Voldemort (A very Potter Musical version though, at least makeup/hair wise...).

I went as Draco for 6.

I essentially went as Sirius Black for the last three, although I didn't realise it until about a year ago.

I'll see DH in theaters but probably not opening night.  Maybe a week later or something if I still have money after buying a RB3 MIDI adapter.

I'm going, of course.
I don't know where, but I'm going as Cho Chang ( Very Potter Musical ) version.
She'll be more complete and less wig haired looking.
XD

All very cool. Even more attention will be going to A Very Potter Musical (which I loved) once Darren Criss debuts on Glee a week from tonight!

Yes. SPOILERS FOR GLEE EPISODE 11/9/10, "Never Been Kissed":

Darren plays an out gay student at an all-male academy who becomes a mentor of sorts to Kurt.

SPOILERS FOR GLEE X-MAS ALBUM:

Darren & Chris Colfer (Kurt) duet on "Baby, It's Cold Outside". I believe I read it's a Dean Martin tune that is romantic, and so that's being interpreted as indicative that Darren's character will be Kurt's boyfriend, but that has not been confirmed by Ryan Murphy.

I get this job at DragonGate.

Wow. Hope to see pics from everyone!
I want to go to the midnight show, but I'm taking my best friend for her bday, and she seems to want to wait until a Saturday matinee. So if anyone wants to go to the premier in Eugene or Springfield, I might go twice that week....

I'm going to my local one as Percy Weasley, although he doesn't show up until the end of the last book and this is only part one :P

The majority of my friends and I are going to go to a party before hand (perhaps including a duel, trivia, eating HP themed foods, and drinking HP themed drinks :D)

I went to a great HP party for my birthday last year. I was in my Luna with the lion cosplay. We used pens in the shape of broomsticks to complete "tests" to pass various classes, e.g., botany, spellcasting. They were basically trivia contests. Then there was a questionnaire equivalent of sorting hat.

The night of the 18th. We'd probably show up a couple hours before to hang out at the mall. And I think we'll be seeing at the Cinima at Cederhills (Beaverton mall).

I could more than likely go to the midnight premier here in Eugene as long as I could find a ride home. I don't think anyone at home wants to stay up long enough to come and get me.

But if I can go, I'd definitely dress up. Ravenclaw ftw.

Mommy won't let me go to the premier cause of school the next day :c , but Katie and I are going right after school that Friday. We are gonna dress up for sure. My hair is too long to be Draco, so I guess I'm either just a random Slytherine, or Draca. And Katie I think is gonna be Ravenclaw... not sure though

@ Ritchie, glad you posted, I was going to go to Gateway (cheaper & less crowded). For which "seating" did you get a ticket? (They often have multiple screens and call one "12:00", one "12:01", one "12:02", etc.)
I have to see how much $ I spend on Orycon before I know if I can go twice (as I'm taking my bestie on Sat.) but if I can I will switch to VRC (if it's not sold out by the time I get back to Ory) & keep an eye out for you. I was going to do my Professor Burbage being eaten by Nagini, but if you want Ravenclaw to represent I could save that for Sat. & wear one of my Lunas. @ Malaria, still hoping to meet you.

I got a ticket for the 12:14 Digital Projection showing, but that was because when I bought my ticket that was the earliest one they had available to pre-order for. Since then every single regular showing has opened up except the first two :|

And I really don't like Cinemark much- it's always seemed very grody to me. Popcorn everywhere and badly-lit in places, at least the last time I was there for a midnight showing. It's too bad that the movie theater I saw very first Harry Potter in (opening night, on my birthday in 2001) got demolished. I would have liked to see Deathly Hallows there. Full circle kind of thing, yanno? But VRC is great, their seats are so bloody comfortable.

It's what time I bought a ticket for, and apparently what time everyone else is buying a ticket for.

What time is everyone showing up? I'mma get dinner on campus after my last class Thursday and then get on the bus and head over to the theater. That ought to put me there at about 6-6:15ish. That's a 5+ hour wait, yeah, but people lined up twelve hours beforehand for Star Wars so I really don't think I'mma be the first person there.

I'll bring my knitting or something though, 'cause dang.

I won't know until after Orycon whether I can afford to go twice (as I mentioned). But if I do go, I won't line up until after Big Bang Theory.

I think with it being a later showing, the line won't be as horrendous, so I'll probably show up around 8 or so with some schoolwork.

Procrastinatorrrrrrrr

There were tickets at like 2AM last night. They must be doing them in tiers or something. I would say that you should camp on Fandango like a boss, but it's just a movie. No need to stay up until 2AM unless you really want to.

I'm kind of in a bit of a pickle. My best friend, who has also my supervisor at work for many years, well, her bday is 11/12, so we've gone every year to HP together, my treat, as her bday gift, since the beginning. I used to be able to get her to go to midnight premiers with me, but then she started working at 7am, ...so we started going to the first Saturday matinee last year. That's what she picked for this year...and when I mentioned that I might go earlier with online friends, it kinda hurt her feelings....so I think I'm going to respect that and just wait for the tickets we already have for 12:30 pm Saturday at Gateway. These, including the online fee, were only $10 for 2, whereas, the premier, 1 ticket, VRC, online is probably $10. That's also a factor, since I have to pay $150 + gas $ to the girl who was my catsitter for Orycon. If anyone is going to the showing I'm attending, please let me know....Thanks & love, Remy.

Okay, I'm not a Harry Potter fan, but I'm hoping to get some answers from those of you who are.  Pretty please...?

The Deathly Hallows is the last book, right?

If that's true, then why is it being split into two movies?
Title: Re: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows film premier 11/19, cosplay
Post by: nyahaha on November 15, 2010, 10:20:57 pm
Yes, the last book.

And I'm guessing to make it accurate because there is a whole lot of stuff that can't really be eliminated in the book.
Title: Re: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows film premier 11/19, cosplay
Post by: Gryffinclaw Princess on November 15, 2010, 10:22:28 pm
Pretty much the whole book is crucial for the plot. They left out important stuff from other books but you can't really do that in the last one because it's a huge war that goes on to pretty much save humanity.

Post by: Washougal_Otaku on November 15, 2010, 10:58:23 pm
Yeah, I think even the most die-hard Potter fans would get bored with a 5-hour movie.
Title: Re: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows film premier 11/19, cosplay
Post by: Gryffinclaw Princess on November 15, 2010, 11:11:54 pm
Nope...
We do movie marathons for a reason. Because we can last that long.
I bet you when all of the movies are out, the most die hard fans will sit through all seven movies in one day without pausing or leaving the room.
I've done it with the ones I have.
Title: Re: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows film premier 11/19, cosplay
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on November 15, 2010, 11:18:50 pm
Well, I suppose that IS technically possible, assuming that they're all 2 1/2 hours long.  That'd total 17 1/2 hours of movies.  I'd have to take a break from anything like a marathon, mainly because I want ample time to rest my eyes and eat.
Title: Re: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows film premier 11/19, cosplay
Post by: Gryffinclaw Princess on November 15, 2010, 11:36:09 pm
Incorrect...

If all movies were 2.5 hours then it would total to 20 hours.
Seven years & two movies for year seven equals eight movies.
2.5 hours each * 8 movies = 20 hours

Also...each movie is about 2.5 give or take.
Title: Re: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows film premier 11/19, cosplay
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on November 15, 2010, 11:42:47 pm
Well, you did say that there were seven movies in your previous post, so that was the number I went with.  20 hours straight of a single series... I'm having a hard time imagining all of these storylines being entertaining enough to do that.  Then again, I couldn't even finish the first book, so I guess I couldn't understand you fans... lol
Title: Re: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows film premier 11/19, cosplay
Post by: LtCommanderRichie on November 16, 2010, 12:19:23 am
And I thought ten hours straight of the extended Lord of the Rings was crazy when I did it. I may be dressing up to go watch this midnight showing, but there's no way I could possibly sit through twenty hours of nothing but Harry Potter.

Weeeeellllllll, I'd probably make it to the end of the Goblet of Fire and then ragequit.

Stupid sexy Tennant. I-I-It's not like I like you or anything!

...what?
PoA= Prisoner of Azkhaban.
It is my favorite of the HP films, and was the first to inspire me to a very specific cosplay as opposed to just cosplaying a generic student (that cosplay being Aragog on rollerskates); **except** for the Luna Lovegood portions of Order of the Phoenix and especially The Half-Blood Prince (because the latter inspired 2 fanfics and 2 cosplays).

I just had this cool idea of finding a way to cosplay a Patronus.

HPPA : 142 Minutes = 2 Hours 22 Minutes
HPGF : 157 Minutes = 2 Hours 37 Minutes

HPPA : 142 Minutes = 2 Hours 22 Minutes
HPGF : 157 Minutes = 2 Hours 37 Minutes
HPOF : 139 Minutes = 2 Hours 19 Minutes
HPHBP: 153 Minutes = 2 Hours 33 Minutes

That's a total of 15 hours and 4 minutes.

Yes...?

And then number seven which is two movies at about 2.5 each which makes 20.

Woot! So my friend decided to get me a ticket so I can go now ^^

We'll be going to the theater at Cedarhills mall here in Beaverton if there're any others...
I'm going as Voldemort, and he's going as Lucius Malfoy.

Most HP movies are NOT 2ish hours long, it is the exception and not the rule. I am so glad DH will be super long though, unnnf.

I disliked parts, but I loved others.
The premier, though, was the funnest thing I've ever attended. We played Quiddich, HP trivia, dueled, made SO MANY Harry Potter references, and just plain old talked.
And there was this guy and we asked him what his shirt meant and he looked like he was going to kill us for the rest of the night. We were actually scared of him, and we ended up hiding xD

Was AMAZING!!!

They let people sit really early, so when my friend and I got there at 9 all the lines were already gone....
So it wasn't as much fun as it could have been...

But we got a lot of pics ^^

Makes me want to get a latex mask to do the actual version of Voldy for part two now....

I was the only one in cosplay at my seating, which also was let in early. Very grateful for the truly funny parts, wow'd by some parts, wept at 1 scene. I'm sure y'all can guess which. This film makes me want to 'ship Harry-Hermione, which nothing previously has.

Ewww, Harry X Hermione, gahhh David Yates what are you doing! Rereading DH now, Part one covere 500ish out of 700ish pages so part two better deliver in the accuracy department- especially with Snape's memories since he's been neglected in the last movies.

They cut out some of the book content so they could include Harry and Hermione's oily grey sex scene.

You mean the dance scene that someone here on the forums posted as a GIF?  That scene was actually grayish in the movie...?

Er, no. That scene was cute. They have another scene later that's significantly creepier.

How "graphic" is it?  Since most HP fans are on the young side, I'd think (and hope) that it wouldn't be too bad...

Actually, the grey Harry and Hermione scene was spot on. I wouldn't let it be replaced ever. It showed something no other scene showed. (I loved it... They were perfect)

In the book they spoke in Riddle's voice, and I didn't get the impression that they were naked when I read it, haha. Not looking forward to naked Radcliffe in the next movie, he needs a bloody shave!

I thought it was like the director poking fun at DR for doing Equus, having him strip to his skivvies so often.

The scenes that made me want to H-H ship were the totally rated G sweet ones, for the record!

I've been trying to figure out why you're posting in here if you don't like the franchise. I think it's kind of weird.
Though I do think it's kind of cool that you've been listening to what people have to say about it, and expressing interest.

Well, that's kind of the main reason WHY I've been posting in here.  Though I don't like Harry Potter, I hate feeling left out of conversations, especially in ones with my friends when we're hanging out.  I mean, it'd be like me talking about the NFL with my friends, but one of them knew nothing about football, let alone the NFL.  I'd like to know SOME things so that I won't ask silly questions as much, such as "Isn't Voldemort a good guy?"
