Title: Probably not going to K-Con this year..
Post by: Kallika on April 07, 2011, 09:41:00 pm
I know I'm not really a popular person or even really well...known? On the forums that much, because of finance issues I probably won't be going this year. I have higher demanding money priorities (Yes I know I'm only 16). I'll most likely be back in a year or two after I have car/college/ whatever else figured out (and after I get a job....). There's a small possibility I'll go this year but, probably not..

Woof, you still have time. Maybe someone will front you a con ticket. Maybe let you stay with them. Give you food.

Don't be so negative!

Yes, You Can!

I am in the SAME boat. The only reason I'm even considering trying to make going work is because it'll be my first BLUE BADGE con.
I just got a car but I'm still trying to figure out insurance/college/gas/job. So con is a no/maybe at this point. ERGH.

That's just it..I really want to go but I don't want to get myself in a bad situation if I don't :/...

Make friends with references???

Amtrak? It's better than a bus.

Any forum goer going to school down there?

Other than that, mow lawns, babysit, deliver newspapers, wash your neighbors cars (detailers charge around $100 per car)....

If you really want to go, and are willing to work for it, have faith that you will be able to go. It can happen. Just keep your ears and eyes open, and inform others of your needs. Such as continually keeping this thread updated.

Good luck!

Where in California? If you don't mind being driven by a random forum chick you don't know, I could give you a ride.

Aw.  D:  Well, you're the person that got me interested in Aesthetic Perfection and Dorgmooth, two bands that I still listen to regularly. ^^

Hopefully you can make it. ^^

I live completely north, like 25 minutes from the border.
I said there's a possibility, but the last two times I went to K con it cost 1000 dollars and about 600-700 last year...

?????!!?!?!??!?!  :'(

I never have enough money for Kumoricon until a month before... not even kidding. I just keep saving, determined to go, and somehow each year without fail I get enough to go. Babysitting, pop can bottles, birthday money, Christmas money... ALLLL goes to Kumoricon. So don't give up yet. Babysitting is really saving my butt money wise this year, there's no way I could do anything without it. On top of Kumoricon I'm going camping with friends, and two days after Kumoricon staying at a hotel at the beach with my boyfriend for our one year anniversary (whoot for hooking up at Kcon 2010~!~~) xD

I'm not going to K-con either because I'll be in Scotland visiting my family.

Sounds like the reverse of what it cost me for AX. >.>'

It's fine. K-con is less than an hour from where I'm at but I'm probably not going either. I should probably just keep my eyes on very large cons like Sakuracon, AX and Yaoicon. Money is never a problem for me because of dumb people that never rtfm but I need to make a point of cutting spending this year. >$3000/yr on conventions is insane.

That's seriously right on my way. I'm driving up from San Francisco.

That's if she lives in Weed, and not Crescent City, or Tulelake. The only cities I can come up with off the top of my head fitting the description. I know there's one south of Lakeview, but that's more than 25 minutes, unless you drive 100mph or better.

Ever notice that Ashland is just after Weed? lol

100mph ain't no g thang, although I dunno how condensed the CHP are at night. And I don't know how fast my car can go, because the speedometer is broken right now. It'll be fixed by summer, though, no worry.

One of these days I need to drive through Weed when it's light out. I have to get an "I <3 Weed" shirt.

^ It only adds about an hour to the entire journey. Considering it's a long trip, another hour isn't too bad.

@-@ That much at Kumoricon??? But... HOW??!!

$35 registration
Roughly, what... $250 hotel??
Cosplay... ( at least me) no more than $250

Food... ramen and lunchables

Wait, I never factored this in! O_o

Registration, train and hotel would be under $350 for me. That's far cheaper than Akicon and I thought that was the most inexpensive con I've ever attended! Holy ****! I'm now tempted to go but I'd like to see the schedule before I even think of making plans. I don't like empty conventions. That's one reason I don't want to visit Oregon for them anymore. :-\

Kalilka I won't tell her if you don't. lol

Miria, does you car have a tachometer? How many rpms the engine is going? I went for years without a working speedometer, and zero tickets. You know those portable radar that tell you how fast you are going?  Use those. For freeways, just don't pass everyone too fast.

Thanks for the tips, I'll get one if the speedometer isn't fixed by the time I leave for San Francisco.  :) I'm currently driving my parents' old car right now.

I actually don't remember what the RPM is on my car or if it has a tachometer. I'd check, but it'd currently wrapped up for protection against the elements right now, and the guy who would know this stuff is at work.

Well at least for me, there's PLENTY to do- between planned events, and unplanned events like going to the mall in cosplay, photo shoots, etc. My convention seriously goes like this... wake up, shower, cosplay, convention, 4 hours of sleep and repeat... I don't even have much down time to eat. I run up to the room between events, throw a towel over my cosplay, eat some fast/instant food, then run back down to get in line.

Late reply but, 100+ dollars of gas even if I fill up. Also I eat a ton....and last year I had a wig problem which resulted in me having to by three. I think Hotel was more around 300 or so too.

Almost $200 for me both ways, but my mileage sucks and my tank is small.

Carpooling makes everything waaay cheaper.

With gas prices going up they way they are, that should get you to Canyonville. Go bet roulette to get more gas. Bet red or black, best odds in a casino, almost 50%.
