So, I just found out that this was taking place tonight at 5:30. I can't go due to prior arrangements, and Chan can't go due to work. I was wondering if anybody here is planning on going.

What's the tree lighting ceremony? ??? I feel clueless for not knowing.
-
the square
-
There's a giant Christmas tree in the Square right now. There's going to be a big lighting ceremony tonight. The one year that I went, they also did a Hanukiah lighting. I don't know if that's the norm or not...
-
Ok,thanks for explaining :) I wish I could go but I'm participating in the parade here in The Dalles that's happening at the same time.
-
I may stop by for the Occupy movement
-
I'll likely be going. We were there last year during the whole bomb scare... Didn't know about it until the next day though :) Very pretty...

There's going to be an occupy movement at the tree lighting ceremony....?
-
sigh- I hope not i mean really this is a city event to some people this Ceremony is more important then some protesters and soem will be very upset and angery If they go in and do something stupid. Or make an issue . Really I think They should go as people and not as protesters to enjoy This .. becuse to tell you some people think of this Ceremony as a Chrismas present or as a hope that they can see it the following years. bla

They'll be there, but all they're doing is holding a candlelight vigil.

So, it's much later, and I don't feel like turning on the TV right now... did they follow through with their peaceful claims?
-
From my firsthand witness, it seems so. The lighting went off without a hitch, though it was a little later than previously announced. (with the extra songs they did, it was clear they were covering up tech difficulties)
-
Ah, yeah, that does tend to happen. Oh well, at least things were peaceful.
Say, did they do anything for Hanukkah? Though it'd be nice, it would seem sort of weird since it starts on Dec. 20 this year.
