Some people have asked what is the best way to make friends at con. Here is the one way that worked the best for me. Meet-ups. I am going to do another cosplay picnic this summer. Please invite others! You can say that you are coming here or on the event page on facebook. The event is open to everyone and everyone can invite others.
Alright I am going to try to get the food situation a little more clear since there has been some questions. Please please please let me know if you are going to bring something. There is nothing worse than showing up to a picnic with enough food for four people and 40+ people who haven't eaten anything.
When: July 7th at noon
Where: International Rose Test Garden
Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/387190604664878/387192767997995/?notif_t=plan_user_invited#!/events/387190604664878/)
Food ideas:
Sandwiches
pizza
watermellon
veggie tray
fruit tray
cookies

brownies
rice balls
lettus wraps

forks/knives/spoons

Asking some friends, I've always wanted to go to one of these so we'll see what they say. :)
If I go, I'll probably bring some food, my bags are always like Mary Poppins' bag.
-
I totally forgot to put the date ^_^;
-
Dude! A cosplay picnic on Tanabata would be EPIC!!! I might be game for that, along with Chan. I'll talk to her about it to see if she'd be game for it. ...is the Rose Test Garden that one by tennis courts that are by the Japanese Gardens?
-
Sounds epic! I may be able to go :)
-
Yes they are by the Japanese Garden
-
I'll be a high maybe, it depends on if I have money for transpo.
I'll bring a cake too, cause I may not be able to do a meet up for my birthday~
Its the third friday of July. I'll finally be eighteen~

If I find a ride, I might be able to give you a lift. I'll warn my mom ahead of time, she might let it slide since there is a huge family reunion on my birthday and thus I don't get to celebrate how I want to.

Sweet. I have my licence, but my dad is slacking on my car. x_x

Okay. Thanks. That'll make things easier for convincing the woman-thing... ;D
-
maaybbee i'll be able to go \ o / .. if i get my yukata done ' and things complete. It'll be fun to wear for a picnic. or .. gakuen sasuke LOL
-
I think I will most likely wear Rokuro to this :3
-
Since I have near to none of my cosplays done, I'll be my elf OC, since that's the only outfit I would have, just have to make sure and order my ears in time.
-
Well, it sounds like I might go, but she probably won't. Currently, she's working at a place where she works on Saturdays and it's very difficult to get a day off. (You'd think she'd have more dedication towards finding a new job).
-
I'd love to get in on this.... but I'll be out of town that day :'( Hit me up next time...
-
I'd like to come, but why wouldn't there be food at a picnic? Without food, it's just a gathering, so I'm confused as to what exactly the intention here is.
-
...I thought the front post said that there are no eateries nearby, and if you're planning on bringing food to share, let her know...
-
I will come :3
-
O3O
I will be attending!
*marks calendar*
I can also bring drinks and food.

Alright let me try to clarify the food situation a little. The last picnic I did there were several cakes and a bunch of cookies and no main dishes. People wanted food other than junk food so they went to find food (this is when we were at the waterfront). If that were to happen again and people pnly bring junk food there is no where within walking distance to get food. So say you want meat but there isn't any you would just have to deal with cake and cookies and what not.
And even if people did bring main courses there might not be enough for everyone so I personally will eat something small and or take my own lunch to make sure that I get enough to eat. If we can get people to commit to bringing food then there isn't an issue.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything since this seems to be hard to understand. Sorry if its confusing. I just don't want people upset because there wasn't enough real food/food in general for everyone.
-
I'll see about making something, like bringing home made guac and chips. Or just bring jars of guac and salsa.
Maybe some mini sandviches.
Depending on how much money I have.

That makes sense.

My girlfriend moves on the 14th, so it can be some sort of LET'S COSPLAY BEFORE YOU GO sort of thing
I'll probably wear Zelda with her Link
:3
Don't 100% count on us, but I'll go and agree to go on facebook!
-
it seems like we MIGHT be able to i know i for one will be bringing my own sack lunch n.n
-
I will try and come, and if I do Phoenixwolf will be with me. I doubt we will be close enough with our Cosplays for this year, so we will probably be revisiting out Hinata and Tenten Cosplays from last year if we do. I won't know if we can actually do it until it gets closer.
-
I will try and make it
-
I haven't heard of many people bringing food so I suggest that everyone bring a sack lunch for themselves in order to insure that you get something to eat. Also I updated the location of where we are meeting. It can be found here https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/387190604664878/
Its basically at the stage to the side so we are out of the way.

I wanna go.....i am a newb, so all my musician friends think ima dork for loving anime and the like...pffffff whatever! ;D their loss.
-
i feel so stupid i compleatly for got about this
what max line goes to it and were do i get off
-
^ The way that I usually get to that area goes like this:
- Once at Delta Park, ride the Yellow into downtown.
- Take the Blue or Red line West bound.
- Get off at Goose Hollow.
- Walk up the hill along (forgot street's name) into Washington Park.
- Follow the windy road.
-
thx and thats a wierd name for a street ;D
-
^ Har har har...
Okay, so I'm looking at a google map of the area:
- From Goose Hollow, head NNE along SW 20th Avenue or SW 18th Avenue (I'd recommend 20th).
- Turn left (WNW) onto SW Salmon Street.
- Once you reach SW King Street, you'll be making a brief right-ish (N) turn, then an immediate left-ish (WNW) turn onto SW Park Place.
- SW Park Place goes up a hill. This road ends at the joinings of SW Washington Way and SW Lewis & Clark Way. This is the border into the Washington Park area. Vehicles entering must turn right onto SW Lewis & Clark Way. Pedestrians can (and probably should) cut straight through via the stairs that are right there.
- Drivers will soon find a road called SW Rose Park Road, which will be the only way to go via driving... and walking. It bends left, then makes a bobby pin turn right, followed by a bobby pin left.
- You'll see the garden, as well as some parking options, a little bit before the next right-way bend.
According to google maps, this walk is 1.3 miles and should take about 33 minutes. I'm kind of a fast walker, plus my speed tends to increase if I've done the walk multiple times. It probably takes me about 20 or so minutes to get that far.
-
thx ill see about bring poky
-
So, I probably should have posted this sooner, but I've decided not to go after all. I'm going to be spending the day with my fiancee, then the later afternoon/evening at home doing laundry and homework, followed (hopefully) by some stargazing at Clark College. Have fun everyone!
-
...so, how was it, everyone!
-
it was awsome
