Hey, I have participated in the Improv Cosplay chess at Sakuracon before, and I was wondering, how does the cosplay chess work at Kumoricon? Is there a scheduled choreographed one like at Sakuracon, or are they all improv-ed with volunteers? I would very much like to participate if possible!
-
Our Cosplay Chess is completely unscripted. Sign-ups should open this weekend (most likely Sunday night), and will stay open until August 24th. Teams are announced a few days later (so you all can start with the smack-talk). There is a mandatory pre-meet, where you meet the other pieces and you can brainstorm moves and such, but you don't know what will happen until the actual game.
-
Thanks for the info. Does the pre meet occur on Day 0 of the con, or is it earlier? Hopefully it's day 0, since I live 3 hours away from Vancouver...
-
The pre-meet is the same day as the game, which will be Day three/Monday. It happens 1-2 hours before the game starts.

Sign ups are out for Cosplay chess

Hey, if I have 2 characters that I would equally enjoy entering in to the Cosplay Chess game, is it alright to submit 2 application forms?
-
yes you are able to sumbit a application for more than one character
-
i fully sugest entering 2 characters (one evil one good) so we can finally have the match weve been dreaming for!

How so? Have past Cosplay Chess games been rather bland, not enough villains or something like that? I sent in my 2 applications yesterday, Captain Aizen and Booker Dewitt ;)
-
Yeah I think we typically do not have enough bag guys.....either one or the other.
-
Well, hopefully my Aizen submission will get me in there as a Villain, since I have some neat attack ideas, and if the cosplay chess team has a computer hooked up to a speaker or something like that, we could get some nice villainous music from the Bleach soundtrack going...
-
The music they do is completely random. They aren't able to know who is going to attack and can't find a song that perfectly fits quickly enough. So keep that in mind, that the music may not be what you want, but there isn't a way to make it so.
-
Does the character have to be Japanese oriented? Nothing western would work am I correct?
One of the characters I wanted to send an application for isn't from an anime, manga or Japanese video game.
-
I'd say pretty much any cosplay should be doable. Video games of all sorts are quite welcome at Anime conventions and their corresponding events, since the vast majority of Anime fans are also gamers. At Sakuracon cosplay chess, I saw Deadpools, Solid Snakes (which the only thing Japanese about him is his creator), Dr. Seuss characters such as the Onceler, Jack Frosts, Marvel characters, etc. There was a huge diversity in character types.
-
I was Ice King last year~
They accept any and all characters. Mainly they choose characters that are more well known, but they're not picky.
-
Yeah not picky at all. I was Rokuro from Brave 10 and very few people knew who I was XD.
-
Okay, thank you guys for the feedback! :D
-
Just emailed them about being a Chess Master! Haven't gotten a reply yet, but I hope I can with my friend.
I'm not going to give away who we're cosplaying yet, but I will say it will be perfect if we get Good vs. Evil!
-
Wow, guess I'm not needed to answer any of these questions :)
Thanks for all the great answers, guys. You were spot on.
For this event, the most important thing is the cosplay. It can be Japanese or Western, anime or books. As long as the character is recognizable it's all good.
I have created the official thread: 2013 Cosplay Chess Rules & Sign-ups (https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?topic=18007.0). You can ask any of your questions there.
Thanks :)
