I'm curious as to how many people Kumoricon is expecing this year. Whoever's making speculations about attendance numbers for this September should post them here, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to know!
On a side note, I'm also curious as to the number of pre-registrants (not sure if that's a word) up to date.

I guess it would kill the fun of this thread to post the official projected attendance, wouldn't it?

We had what, 1,700-ish last year? I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think roughly 2,000 is what we'll see ^-^

Seriously, I'm going to guess something just short of 2,000.

Publicity is working very hard this year. We have a lot of contacts. Most of which won't be seen or heard untill the month before or a few weeks before the con it's self.

I'm going to say about 2,000... Probably a little short of it.
Of course, as a blooming meteorologist, I'll probably be off by a few hundred. Meh, if I'm wrong, I'll just blame it on a early fall cold front or like... Strong offshore winds.

I'm curious as to why you would wait that long. I would personally think that you might want to get people earlier, before pre-registration ends. I know I'd be more likely to come if it was cheaper and I'd pre-regged, if it was my first convention.

I beleive 3000 is the capacity but not sure.
As to why we wait on the newspapers. If we press realesed to the papers earlier there is a very real chance that one of two things would happen:
1) It would be overlooked by the general public because the event date is not very close.
2) It would not get released or covered as it is not breaking news, it would be seen more as advertising.
We are running events and advertising and have signed up on most of the anime event boards before the releases but most of the press contacts will be used at that time for maxium impact.

I actually read on the hotel's website that there is convention space for 2500 people. I would assume that's the capacity?

yes 2500 is the capacity, but we'll see what actually happens...

Actually, I just got confirmation from Sean that it is 2800. But I'm sure it is good enough for most people to say between 2500 and 3000.

I suppose waiting makes sense then. I don't suppose you're allowed to tell us where advertisments are going to appear, are you?

Here's to a packed crowd this year and a bigger hotel next year!
As bad as it is to turn people away at registration, it's kind of a buzz to fill the hotel to capacity.
