Title: Making a hat... TT_TT
Post by: JimmyDarkside on July 21, 2006, 12:46:32 am
I apologize for posting more about my sewing troubles.  I feel awfully lame.  But I can't for the life of me find a hat to modify..  Could anyone give me any instruction or pattern numbers to make Lain's hat (or something very similar) from the opening credits of Serial Experiments Lain?    A few pictures:

Also... I can't knit or anything... =.=  I am going to take some lessons when I can afford them...

oh oh ive made one of those kinda hat b4 its actually realli easy,

make like a U pattern , then cut out 2 of them for the actuall hat part sew those 2 pieces together, the cut out 2 smaller U's for the ears and sew them on where ur ears should go i suggest a stretchy kinda material as ur head may not fit exactly, iono but since im not usuing and reference it should look like this  u^u, hope that helps prolly not tho^^~!

Well, it looks to have the same general shape as snow-hat, so you might just go to a goodwill and find one that looks about right, and disect it to make a pattern.  Fabric-wise, I'd recommend fleece for the body of the hat and felt for the little details.  If you have time to order it, check out this site, it's awesome: http://www.genkigang.com/genkigang.html

if you search online you should be able to find somethign with pictures on how to make hats like that, to make it fit eally nicely though you need to have kinda an "X" on the top of the hat if that makes ay sence, and if you are just going to make a U shape than you MUST mesure your head first, heads are bigger than people think and a flat hat is going to look to to heuge, but it WILL fit.
