I miss you more than
Micheal Bay missed the mark
when he made Pearl Harbor
I miss you more than
that movie missed the point
And that's an awful lot, girl
And now, now you've gone away
And all I'm trying to say
Is Pearl Harbor sucked
And I miss you
I need you like Ben Afleck
needs acting school
He was terrible in that film
I need you like Cuba Gooding
needed a bigger part
He's way better than Ben Afleck
And now, all I can think about is your smile
And that ****** movie too
Pearl Harbor sucked
And I miss you
Why does Michael Bay
get to keep on making movies?
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked
just a little bit more than I miss you

I agree that the movie sucked, but I did like Michael Bay's "The Island" even if he just stole the movie's idea from another movie made in the 80's that nobody really saw.
-
I wouldn't say that it sucked. As a "war" movie, it was pretty good. However, I think if they had written it without such a strong "love story" attatched to it, it would have been a lot better.
-
Could the same be said for "Enemy at the Gates?" A good war movie with a love story attached?
-
Which one was that? Was that the one with a Russian sniper who kills German generals and opposing snipers? Yea, the romance it that one was pointless; it could have gone without that 100%.
-
Yup, that was it. Jude Law was the Russian sniper with Ed Harris as the German sniper. I guess Hollywood wants to reach the female demographic even in war films.
-
That was Jude Law? Wow, maybe I should start to respect the guy.
-
Enemy At The Gates should, indeed, have been romanceless.
That weakened the plot, to me.
-
actually really liked it
Eh, wasn't that bad
Could've been a lot better
God someone shoot Bay already
you forgot an option..
i didnt see it

I think it had potential to be one of the better world war II movies around but the lovse story really destroyed the movie for me.

Sadly enough, the entire basis of that movie was merely the result of Soviet propaganda. While Vassili was truly one of the best Soviet snipers, there was never actually a dual between Vassili, and the so called "Master Sniper" on the German side. In fact, the German sniper didn't even exist. Alot of this movie is historically inaccurate.... and with me being a tightwad when it comes to wwII, it pains me to watch it.
But! I will say I absolutely adore the opening scenes where the JU-87's are strafing the boats full of Russian troops as they cross the Volga..
If you want a truly great movie about the battle of Stalingrad, i'd look up "Stalingrad" from the German Film-maker Joseph Vilsmaier. He also made the equally fantastic "Das Boot". ( :

To me, 'Pearl Harbor' is one of those movies which stands in the shadow of a better movie, to the extent that you can just watch the better movie and not even bother with the also-ran.
So when people ask about 'Pearl Harbor,' I usually say I saw 'Tora Tora Tora' instead. Another great swap-out is to see 'Das Boot' instead of 'U571' (which I actually watched unfortunately.) Matter of fact, it was this one pair - 'Das Boot' being so accurate and emotionally moving, and U571 just mediocre to useless on all the same areas that 'Das Boot' really grips hard - that made me start compilimg my list of 'replacement' movies.
'Monte Christo' w/ Johnny Depp did not come CLOSE to the satisfying revenges exacted by Richard Chamberlan.
Also, for me, Walter Lord's 'A Night to Remember' blows away 'Titanic' because the 1952 movie deals with the 'Californian' being only 10 miles off and ignoreing the signals even though ships crew were asking that captain about what to do - were they indeed ordered to ignore the signals, and if questioned, to deny that they had seen them?
Also, when they made the Walter Lord movie, the producers actually contacted Harlan & Wolfe (the shipyard where she was built) to ask if any other ships were available which were built to the same class. The answer was no, her sister liners had been used as WW2 troop transports, and had eithergotten sunk or were being scrapped (in 1952.)
BUT - they said - one pair of steam engines of the same class were still in use in a lakeside pumping station in Wales, and the layout in the station was EXACTLY the same as was built for the Titanic. So the film crew went out there actually used one of the engine's pumping power to FLOOD THE BUILDING when they filmed the 'engine room flooding' scene.

I agree with you completely. U571 was quite pathetic. The plot could have not been farther from the truth.. Not to mention all of the errors that were made reguarding accurate uniforms.
-
The movie was, in a word, terrible.
Tomthefanboy and I watched it together on a whim a couple years back and were horrified at how terrible it was. And LONG. Don't forget long. It was so long that the DVD had an intermission. We thought it was the end of the movie and started screaming in terror at the fact that there was more movie on another disc.
Don't ever ever watch it.
-
During the intermission you could hold a little dance party for a few minutes... just a suggestion.

<3 Team America references.
I actually didn't think Pearl Harbor was that bad, though.

The best part was that Pearl Harbor had the Alias Girl in glasses one of her best roles ever. Other than that is was a big loud double feature remake of 'From hear to Eternity' and '30 seconds over Tokyo' that made the viewer wish they would show more of what’s going on with the girl in glasses and those 40's style undergarments and what kind of books did she read in bed.
