Word on the street (thanks Chris!) is that Obonfest is a small festival
held at the Oregon Buddhist Temple, located at 3720 SE
34th Avenue in Portland, right off of Powell Blvd. It
will be on August 4th from 4-9. A pdf of their flyer
is here:

Wow, and here I was planning a Pocky Club meeting for the 5th. What timing!

I heard about this in the newspaper. It sounds interesting!

I've been to this three or four times now. Just so you know what to expect, there's a stand for food and shaved ice, a little gift stand, there's usually a silent auction going on, and there's entertainment in the form of taiko, martial arts and dance demonstrations. As evening come on, there's a big traditional dance. One of the dances I've seen has something to do with cats, as people hold their hands like paws. Another involves being a coal worker or something like that, and they make shoveling motions. It's pretty cool to see.
