Title: Question: (hair related)
Post by: Mirithespazz on September 25, 2007, 04:09:43 pm
So, I'm going as AC Yuffie next year and I have a slight problem.
I have the right hair cut, (+ plus a little work) but my hair is light brown
My first thought is to dye it with temporary stuff but my mom isn't to keen on that
but Buying a wig seems dumb to me seeing as I already have the basic cut

Basically I could
1) go with my light brown hair (which wouldn't be so bad, but I don't know if people would see that as too "out of character")
2) buy a wig ($$ :( )
3) Work on my mom about the dye for the rest of the year (she has to cave eventually right?  :-\ )

Basically I was hoping someone has an opinion on what would be best
(or any convincing arguments to help me work on my mom)

Thanks ^^

hmmmm well i would still go with the wig. its a slightly easyer one to style and you can buy a cheep wig from a halloween store for around 10 bucks and stile it. black wigs are ussaly large in stock, and if you can only find a long wig only in the right color then i would buy it and just style it.

if your hair was red or blonde or something, i would bother. but brown isnt really that far a stretch anyway, so if you wanted i doubt anyone would fault you for just sticking to that.

Im thinking of being Kongol, and using my own natural hair (which goes to my lower back) as opposed to his mohawk lol.

as for trying to convince your mom, ask if you could do a test run on a lock of hair on your hair that is hidden (side middle or what ever wouldnt show) or use a lock of hair saved from a hair cut , dye it and so that way you mom could see how long it would take to wash out, and what your hair would look like dyed

Im not keen on the wig idea myself, seeing as how itll be most likely hot at kunmoricon like it was this year, and sometimes wigs are hard to wear.

If youve already got the cut then id say work on your mom. If shes against permanent dye suggest temporary wash out. It comes out in like 14 washes or something and you could do it a few days before the con. Plus they dont cost that much,

A good argument could be "Its just hair, it can grow back to normal" Besides i think if you went with the temporary she might be more leniant. Im blonde nad dyed the underside of my hair and bangs temporarily black and it washed out in like 6 or 7 washes. If you really wanted you could probably get it out in 3 or 4 days.

Thanks for the advice/ideas!
I'm thinking that I will most likely go with temporary dye (I'm expecting my mom to let me after awhile of pestering)
But If that fails my own hair with have to do  ::) it does turn a lot lighter over the summer though

I personally think there would be nothing wrong with brown hair and that costume,  it wouldn't be destracting like blond or red hair might be.    not knowing how old you are im thinking you should just try to get your mom to let you dye it, OR buy a GOOD wig (most of the con is inside and the heat really isnt much of an issue).

and im just gonna say this right now.  as a personal favor to me can everyone just right now,  promise me or whatever else you like,  that you will not under any circumstances use a halloween store wig (im talking "seasonal" at freddies or a party city) for thier cosplay.  it makes kittens cry.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Fortunetly, I've learned that BEFORE I started my cosplaying. And, I do promise!
