I picked up a flier about KumoriCon while at SakuraCon this past weekend, and I came to this site to find out more information. I can't seem to find any information on how to register at this time. Is there any information on when we will be able to pre-register on the website, and how much the cost will be?
By the way, I'm really excited that an anime convention is coming to Portland! I've gone up to SakuraCon the past four years and had a really great time, but it'll be nice to have a con in my hometown that I can get to easily :D
-
Pre-registration will be going up this week. The price will be $25 until July 31st.
-
wow. that's cheap. Now I want to go for sure now.
-
What exactly does preregistration include? Or should I just wait for the update this week?
-
Mostly pre-registration helps us determine how many people are interested in Kumoricon, and the sooner people register, the better. We give a decent price break for pre-registering, we also will try to add extra goodies to pre-register swag bags, and pre-reg people will have first dibs on t-shirts seeing as how popular they were last year.
-
So then, *newbie* we register the hotel rooms ourselves, then?
-
Yes, register using our group code KUMKUMA
-
Okay.
-
Is there a different rate for registering as Staff, and will there be a way to register via snail mail? I don't have a credit or debit card, and do not intend to get one any time soon for obvious otaku reasons. ^.^;
-
*snip*
For staff reg cost, please email the staff email listed under contact. For those of you that were staff at SakuraCon, I'll say that the price for Staff Reg is the same. =)
Snail Mail, yes, we'll have a form up for you to mail to us. Should be up by the end of the week.

YAY!!!! ^.^
Thanks Staze, you should deffintly count frodo in as a security staff now. ^.^
-
cool... well, once we get your info, we'll make the adjustments so you can have all the spiffy behind the scenes access that security requires. lol... think of yourself as getting in on the ground floor of a new con... your input will probably be very helpful to us (that is, it it's useful =) )
-
I've already e-mailed security@kumoricon.org, so I'll just wait for a response and then e-mail in all requested information. ^.^
-
oh wow, count me interested. im going to beg the hell out of my mom. lol
-
Now that I look at it, September is really not that far away. It's just around the corner. I don't think I'm gonna hae time for a costume, but I will try.
Are there anything around the marriott like sites and arcades and stuff?
-
ok... Ive been to Portland twice (once was to try and find uwajimaya.... 5 hours later, I find it). Is it going to bein the center of Portland? Please say its right off I-84...
-
There's a Uwaji in Portland? O_O woah. I's gotta to check that out. Do you know if Kinokuniya is inside that one as well?
-
Yeah, it has a Kinokuniya in the back. It's actually in Beaverton, but it's close enough to the edge of town enough to not really matter. Right on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway. Ahh, Uwaji, gem of my week.

yeah off of 217 take 10 (Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway) and it should be within a couple blocks from that overpass!
I need to go there in a couple weeks!
(Newly addicted to pocky :P )
Lilacs smell good!!!

Do they have Kiwi Ramune? ^.^
-
So KumoriCon is on a Saturday, Sunday and Monday instead of Friday, Saturday and Sunday?
-
Uwajimaya in Portland seems to cycle through the items that it carries. There are few things that it alwasy has but for novelty drinks and candies, it's like they have only what they got a good deal on. I think I've sometimes seen normal and peach ramune there though.
-
*nodnod* Yup Mika. Sat-Mon. So that pencil-pushers like me don't miss work for it... that is, if I didn't have vacation that week! =^~.~^=

Yes, because of the holiday weekend, doing this also opened up more rooms for us to use and generally have a better space.

Will there be things going on Friday as well? Early Registration pickup, help with setup, things like that?

I really hope that the regestration forms are up soon! I wanna register to get an early start, and i'm gonna register for the Sakura con the same time i register for Kumori con! It's like the saying... "feeding two birds with one bag of feed..."

-
Oh wow. I didn't even realize it wasn't even on a Friday. Hmm... that changes things for me a bit but since I have so much time I can request that time off.
-
Friday will be like SakuraCon's Thursday, there will be pre-registration, and maybe 1 or 2 small things going on for the pre-register people. Like how I was able to open console gaming early so that people could play Thursday night at SC.
-
Wow, I didn't even notice that it was Saturday, Sunday, Monday until you guys pointed it out! O.o It willbe bizarre, but I have that time off from school so I don't mind. ^.^
-
My wife and I are still debating if we want to sign on as staff. If not, we'll likely do some volunteering while we're there.

I'd like to see you two have a wonderful stress free wedding anniversary and just enjoy yourselves! Not that we wouldn't love to have every little bit of your help you'd be willing to give, but how many times does one have a silver wedding anniversary?
-
Didn't they have pre-reg at the last Kumoricon? I can't quite recall...
-
The hotel is not directly off of I-84... but it is easy enough to get to from I-84. If you go to our hotel info, and get the address, put that in Mapquest... basically, you just have to jump from 84 to I5 and off, and you're there.
It's not quite that cut and dry... but close.
-
Hopefuly its not too bad, since it is a big hotel. I'm pre-registered now, so I'll see y'all there XD
-
I'd stay at the hotel, but I live too close and it would be a waste of money really.
-
Whats the price of the hotel with the group rate, I wanna know if I'd be better off sleeping over at Fatburger's and/or TadSG's place for the weekend.
-
Group rate's $89 a nite on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nites. Additional info available on the "Hotel Info" button at left! =^~.~^=

will there be CCTV?
-
Quick note about Uwajimaya down here in Portland. It's in Beaverton which is on the other side of the West Hills. It's really close to the highways and easy to get to, but if you come in from out of town then that really doesn't matter. The cool thing about it is the street it's on is Bus Route 54. Route 54 drives all the way into Portland RIGHT up to the Marriott. Just across the intersection from it is also Noodle me and Animenia. A great ramen place and Japanesevideo rental shop.
I think I go off about these places so much because I live out here on the West side and don't go downtown on a regular basis. Oh well, who cares!?

we are working on CCTV and something to augment it that should have sakuracon going "oooooh" "awwwwhhhh". But you'll have to wait and see. As a good number of us were involved in sakura con in some way, we've learned some dos and don'ts.... so we'll see how our second year turns out.
As Uwajimaya and such, yes, they're a bit far off from the con. I used to take the 54 into portland all the time (that is, after the 88 stopped running all the way). This was well before the west side max line. Uwajimaya is great, and if we play our cards right, the bookstore should have a stand in our dealer room. But as for suggesting people head all the way out to the west side of town to have ramen... well, to each their own...
Me, I usually just frequent the Thai place right in that general area... Tara Thai house. Best Pad Thai period. And the Kings Favorate is great too. mmmm... makes me wish I were in Beaverton now.
-
Noodle me..... A great ramen place
Do they have Udon? I'm a sucker for good Udon. ^.^;
-
Udon, udon, I seem to remember a place over by Uwajimaya that had excellent Udon. Concidering the sheer number of asian food restaurants in that area, I wouldn't be surprised. And if you like sushi... Well, I'll talk more about that later.
-
UDON!!!!!!!!!!!
Heh, I'll have to get the coordinates for this yummy udon resteraunt from you. ^.^
-
that is if it's still there, and I can remember what it was called, I only remeber going there once when I was working at Bi-Mart (>.<) back when it forst opened next to Uwajimaya, and that was a few years ago.
-
lol... I still remember Uwajimaya being a Best... and before that, a Jafco.

I went to the Sakura Con (only on Saturday) and picked up a little flyer thingy for this. I want to help with Kumori Con ^.^ It's in my old hometown, which is why my mom will probably be up to taking me. ((me: yah mom... let's go visit Uncle Jeff... mom: oh really?! I've been wanting to see him me: I know this great hotel....)) something like that xD
If you need help with the website at all, I'm up to doing that... I'm *cough* pretty good at websiting if I do say so myself... *isn't bragging... really... *
I haven't pre-registered yet because on Tuesday it's the first day of school for me I believe so I will have to be extra good to get my mom to agree to that =^.^=
Well...with that disjointed post... I... shall... go check out the other forums.
-
I'm glad you saw our flyers at SakuraCon. We always appreciate help, as for website work, we have a webmaster already, but there are always positions you can volunteer for. For instance, lately there's been talk about needing Staff Helpers, people who go around and check up on the staff to make sure that they're taken care of, and not working themselves sick.
There's always people needed for publicity, you could be the first official member of Team Kumori, or the Kumori Krew. Yeah, there needs to be a better name for our publicity squad, but I can't think of one at the moment.
-
hm... sure =^.^= I'll just help where it's needed I guess.
I like the name Team Kumori, it sounds like Team Rocket sort of... now all you need is a little Kumori cat to jump out and go, "Meowth that's right" tee hee... Publicity it is! shall I start making posters? Should I send out postcards, should I try to jump onto a News Show.... after getting past all the secruity guards... *is hyper today*
Staff helping sounds great too... just stick me where you need me ^.^
-
As far as publicity goes, I'd suggest two things:
1) e-mail our publicity junkie at publicity@kumoricon.org, he'll want to add you to his staff
2) tell everyone you know, met, or looked at about the convention.
We should be able to ship you off a few flyers, but we'll be making a couple that people can print off our website. Get people to pre-register, it gives us a much better idea of how many people are actually coming, and provides funding so we're able to actually afford buying things like T-Shirts and other great merchendise before the convention.
-
There, sent an e-mail ^.^ Got it! *has already begun telling every friend in sight about it* hm... I live up in Washington, so all my friends that missed the Sakura Con will probably try to come here... but there all procrastinators so I'll have to kick their butts in gear to pre-register. I bet I could get some relatives to come too.... hm... as soon as I get posters I'll stick them everywhere... (maybe on people's backs....)
Is there anything else I can help with? Drawing? Ideas? Contests? *bounces about*... this is what happens when I get to much sleep and a new coffee maker
-
now all you need is a little Kumori cat to jump out and go, "Meowth that's right" tee hee...
*glares at QEvil* Don't you EVEN get any ideas.....

i'm really hoping someone might be able to either bring themselves, or provide to me so i can bring, (a) promotional materials for kumoricon, and (b) potentially prereg materials for kumoricon, to tomorrow's cute little mini-anime con, otakucon, at willamette high school, echo hollow and barger in eugene, 1pm to 4pm.
my friend grace (an amazing anime-inspired artist!) is hosting the con, and got permission from the school for folks to table and engage outreach and even accept money, if folks can be there.
link: http://wuntvor.home.comcast.net/otakucon.jpg
i'd posted about this on the tunac forums, but got no reply.
sailor naboo also posted that she will be there. one of last year's fanfic workshop participants is considering going with me.
i have no idea how to access posters or anything. i'll try that email link for publicity person, above....meantime, had things at my work been different, i would have made it there to the meeting last night...sorry for that more than words can say (though at least i had a productive night)
anyway, thanks to anyone who can please help!
please *call* in addition to replying online, as i do not know how far in advance of otakucon (if at all) i would next be online.
my number is 484 4390.
thanks!
love,
rem.
