Hiya everyone! So I've been going to kumoricon for a few years, as some of you know, and this year, I might get my first chance to attend Sakuracon! YAAAAY! I'm so excited, and I really hope that I get to. I just wanted to know if there was anything majorly different that I should know about Sakuracon. I understand that I must have an adult with me and blah blah blah. Anything else though?
Also, does anyone know any good hotels in the area of sakuracon this year? We're looking for something CHEAP!!!! Any ideas. :/
-
imo, I felt sakura was better in terms of panels and dealers as the larger size allows them to have a greater variety. kumori con feels more like one big anime fan party then anything.
-
I always stay at the Sheraton, its the closest and the nicest!! um the paramount isn't bad though either. Other then that the Con is Freakin HUGE!!! Hope to see you there!
-
hotel wise I stick with the crowne. I dunno if its the cheapest for the area and its not hte closest, but for the con hotels its the least expensive, and I like how they will hold your bags for you when you ck out on the last day.
-
...yeah sakuracon is huge.....there is about 15,000 people there compared to kumoricons 4,000.
-
I like it that Kumoricon's small. It's like a second home!
-
There's one possibility that is cool with the con staff, but probably not with your parents if you HAVE to have them around. It takes some conditioning before the con, but because it is open 24 hours a day, it's possible to stay awake AT the con all weekend without ever having to get a hotel.
But it's not usually an option for most people except me and Tofu probably; staying awake for 3 days straight isn't as easy as it sounds. If you need to get a half hour of sleep somewhere, make sure you do it during the day. There are too many people and things going on to care about a little nap.
-
Sakura is more family oriented though. and do note kumori is catching up to sakura in terms of numbers very quickly. I heard 6k-7k people for 09 tossed around.
-
I dunno how Sakuracon is more family oriented. They allow a lot of things Kumori doesn't.
I like Sakuracon because it's bigger and it's always a blast!
-
kumori have adults only stuff after midnight. dun see that at sakura.
-
I'm really trying hard to get up to Sakuracon this year. I've been wanting to go for awhile now, but wasn't able to do it due to budgetary and scheduling conflicts. This year, I'm thinking I might actually have a shot at going, as I don't have any other things that will be sucking up my savings at that particular time!!
-
Things to know:
- More guests
- More room (but a heck of a lot more people to fill it)
- Food in the convention center itself (subway, starbucks, taco del mar, unconventional pizza, sit-down fancy place, coffee place) as well as directly outside (crepe place, starbucks, cheesecake factory, American food place)
- More dealers (you'll freak the first time you see the dealers hall)
- Stricter on rules (keep your badge visible at all times)
- More security (both con staff and convention center staff)
- Awesome level of costuming (due to sheer numbers)
I wouldn't recommend trying to do the weekend without sleep. Con staff hates it when people doze off in the hallways (I've got friends on staff, and they complain about this.)
Con staff are stricter, but they're really overworked. And Sakura Con has a lot at stake, so make sure you're nice to staffers. Most of them are supernice folks who just get a bit stressed out when they have to deal with over 10,000 people (and there are only a few hundred of them to do it).
Food is one of my favorite parts of the con. It was cool having the food court at the mall at Kumori Con, and the hotel restaurant was nice, but the crepe place at the Washington State Convention Center is To Die For. (Order the raspberry-hazelnut-ganache. Do it.) And it's Seattle, so there's both Starbucks in the center itself, one just outside on the sidewalk, and I think a Tully's or Seattle's Best a block away. Plus the coffee place on the ground floor (across the lobby from the Kinkos). And all the other cool places I mentioned above, plus the stuff that's more than a block away (like Westlake Center for the food court, or Pike Place Market for pretty much any cultural cuisine you could hope for.). And there's always the International District/Chinatown if you feel like taking the bus or driving a bit.
The Dealers Hall is so big it's overwhelming. It takes a lengthy visit just to glance at all the booths, and if you're planning on actually shopping you can spend half the day in there easy. It's the variety of goods that really make the shopping at Sakura Con worthwhile...it's one of the ten biggest cons in the U.S., so it draws a lot of dealers. Whatever you want, it's a good chance you can get it. You just have to find it. Ask around the booths if you're looking for something rare, and they can probably direct you to the table selling it.
Been attending since '03. It's amazing how much it's grown, and I'm really happy that I'm going into my seventh year as an attendee.
-
Sakura Con is awsome! (however, I'm a little biased as that's the first con I ever went to and the first con I've ever staffed ^_^. Though I live in Oregon and I love Kumori Con, Sakura Con holds a special place in my heart.) I'm on staff 2009 as the Masquerade Ball Coordinator and I've been on staff since 2004 as various other staff positions (except in 2006 when I had to miss it) and as mentioned, the key difference is size and content.
Sakura Con is a family-friendly convention so you won't see as much adult-oriented programming and such. There is some adult stuff, but that's not until after 11 or midnight and it's a little bit "tamer" than what you see at Kumori Con. Also, it is a 24-hour con, or at least the gaming room is. There is plenty of stuff that goes on late into the night such as the dance and late-night panels, but the gaming rooms IS 24-hours.
As for guests, Sakura Con does get more guests that include Japanese guests. For example, in 2007, we got Yusuhiro Nightow, the mangaka of Trigun. You can see a complete list of past guests here~
http://www.sakuracon.org/programming/past_guests.php (http://www.sakuracon.org/programming/past_guests.php)
For 2009, so far we have Smile.dk (of DDR fame) and the Jrock band Girugamesh coming.
About hotels, the nicest and most expensive is the Grand Hyatt, the cheapest and furthest away is the Crowne Plaza (but it's only 4-5 blocks away), but just because it's the cheapest doesn't mean it isn't nice. You can see a map of where all the hotels are as well as information here~
http://www.sakuracon.org/hotels/index.php (http://www.sakuracon.org/hotels/index.php)
I also recommend you read Sakura Con's policies so you understand what Sakura Con's rules and regulations are~

And of course, if you have anymore questions and need more information, GO TO THE WEBSITE~

Or join the forums and post your questions there (I post as... well, guess :P )

There are huge differences between Kumoricon and Sakuracon for sure.
Kumoricon....
Attendance for 2008 4,470 total
Run by the fans for the fans meaning panels are based more off what people want to see hear and do.
More at home people connecting to people feeling
Far easier to make friends with other attendees
Less crowded
(imo) much more to do
Far more interaction with attendees creating things to do (photoshoots, mid year events ect)
18/21+ panels for those that want to go
Larger dance area w/great music
Con sponsored mid year events
Great starter con for first time attendees
Registration mailout system
Hotel is part of convention location
Fairly inexpensive con to attend
Creation Station ('nough said)
Sakuracon...
total attendance in 2008 about 13,000+
Industry run con
Bigger vendors hall
Much bigger, crowded feel
At con badge pick up only
Little to no adult programming
Has to book a separate venue from hotels people stay at
Much more expensive to attend
Not a whole lot of worth while programming
No creation station (CS like panels are very spread out and hard to find)
Reached/reaches firecode very easily and sometimes has to shut down floors
Tad bit more to do around the convention than in it
Really spread out times between panels
Oh and fyi last year Sakuracon had a 4chan panel, played shin-chan during the COSPLAY SHOW not once but TWICE (totally inappropriate for the children and the parents of said children that waited hours in line to watch the cosplay show) and let some people get away with quite a bit more skin at times than really should have been allowed o.o. I mean it happens but jeeeeeze they aren't really all that family oriented besides the "family" aka younger viewers are very few con's real audience. I mean if you notice most con's stop playing "family" friendly stuff in their viewing rooms before 11a.m.
I've had good experiences with Sakuracon's dealer's room, but I've not had a good experience with keeping busy after those rooms close. Most of the panels are spread too far apart and don't really interest me. I usually end up getting bored and wandering around Seattle.
Sakuracon is great as long as you've got good friends with you and a decent camera to take pics of the amazing cosplays.
Nyeh thats my two cents... I like both cons but for different reasons.
-
I like it that Kumoricon's small. It's like a second home!
Oh my, so true.~
-
yeah it is nice that kumoricon is small and like a second home but there is much more too look at at sakuracon. There is more people and more variety of costumes. Plus its a way to make friends outside of the state.
-
kumori have adults only stuff after midnight. dun see that at sakura.
and you wont. Ever. ( I asked about it once and was flamed by a moderator/staff )
They are NOT 'family' oriented, they are CHILD oriented.
If they were another convention of that size between here and N California, I'd go there instead, no question.
I blame a lot of on SC's size, the more people you get the more people there are to get offended.
However, I never will understand why they chose to placate angry, un/misinformed parents, rather than ya know..the anime fans.
I fear KC may go down the same road once it gets that size.
-
actually it not due to its size. has more to do who sponsers the convention. Asia Northwest Cultural Education Association I believe is who set down the rules down for sakura that they have to follow. if I'm not mistaken anyway
Kumori is has Altonimbus(sp?) a company created by the staff for the purpose of helping hold the convention so the board(the election of which are coming soon) decides what content is allowed.
-
yes when peeps ask me about sac, i tell them nothin says family con like 4 of the prettiest japanese drag queens i've ever seen
i stayed at the sheraten last year it was nice
-
Kumoricon....
Run by the fans for the fans meaning panels are based more off what people want to see hear and do.
Sakuracon...
Industry run con
I wouldn't quite say that...although industry definitely has more influence through advertising there. Their board is independent with no permanent ties to industry and I would generally still classify them as a fan-based convention.
They have made abundantly clear that the 4chan panel was a mistake and won't be repeated. They are requiring all planned adult content to go through an approvals process involving multiple people this year, specifically as a result of the problems with that panel.
As for Shin-chan...well, Funimation was a major sponsor in 2008.
I blame a lot of on SC's size, the more people you get the more people there are to get offended.
You mean like Fanime, in San Jose? :) Same size as Sakura-Con, but other end of the spectrum: Very lax rules for a con of that size, and not very reliant on industry at all.
I fear KC may go down the same road once it gets that size.
It needn't, and probably won't, because Kumoricon's purpose is not primarily education and charity as Sakura-Con's is.
actually it not due to its size. has more to do who sponsers the convention. Asia Northwest Cultural Education Association I believe is who set down the rules down for sakura that they have to follow. if I'm not mistaken anyway

ANCEA and Sakura-Con are one and the same. They are different names for the same organization. In 2006 and prior, they were two separate boards, but they amended their bylaws to merge. There is now a single board running the organization and the con.
Later in 2006, Kumoricon/Altonimbus did the same thing. They were separate boards previously, but they merged.
-
@JeffT
ahh I see. thank you for clearing that up much more nicely then I could.
-
Kumoricon....
Run by the fans for the fans meaning panels are based more off what people want to see hear and do.
SC used to claim that they were run by the fans fr the fans. That's Bull.
I know it's very hard to believe, and it was long time so I have 'no pics' but I swear to god after a complaint by an atendee a staff/meber actually did say
" Sakura con is run for/by staff. Not attendees, if you don't like don't go."
Obviously, not all SC staff is that radical but..that person wasn't repremanded or corrected at all.

You know what? I don't care that they 'admitted it was a mistake' in the end, what oes that teach them? That they can do waht they what they want, offer a few cheap words, and just do it again next year.
If it would have been an attendee they would have suffered far worse.
As far as Shin-chan; it had nothing to do with Funimation.
It was a stupid mistake that could have been avoided had soemone paid just the tiniest bit of attention.
The one at fault said " Oh yea, I accidentally handed them the wrong disk. My bad."
And that was that.
Once again, had that been atendee they would have had a strike or three aginst their badge.
You mean like Fanime, in San Jose? :) Same size as Sakura-Con, but other end of the spectrum: Very lax rules for a con of that size, and not very reliant on industry at all.
Oh dear god I love fanime so hard! This year my first time attending.
I went as Young Byakuay fro mthe manga and chasing a Yoruichi around a crowded hall when we were aprpoached by a staff member.
He said " LOL Just don't kill each other" and walked away.
And the game room was amazing! At SC and KC, the chess games are planned months in advance with two teams and one game.
At Fanime, I was scheduled to be a player for a chess game. Due to schdule conflicts, it was cancelled. Even after I was ..eh a totcl bitc habout it, the gaming staff, without getting the leats bit annoyed, jsut told me taht if I could round up the people, I could play.
Also, I find that the atendees themselves are friednlier/happier. Gee..there couldn't be a connection there..
I actually think the reason for that, is becuase the yare so old that they have devolped beyond the early adult years of " rawr I has power and I'll show the world"-
to the older, wiser old man who has already made his fame and fortune and is content where he is at. XD
I fear KC may go down the same road once it gets that size.
It needn't, and probably won't, because Kumoricon's purpose is not primarily education and charity as Sakura-Con's is.
Ah, is that the difference. Oh thank god. I would cry if it too were to go down the same path.
actually it not due to its size. has more to do who sponsers the convention. Asia Northwest Cultural Education Association I believe is who set down the rules down for sakura that they have to follow. if I'm not mistaken anyway

I don't claim to know for a fact, but it seems to me, that part of SC's problem, is just this. Like all politics, once people get elected, they don't want to leave or have anyone hcnage what they have done. Since they are the only ones allowed to vote, they vote in their friends and keep everything the same.
Mind you, I'm not just slamming on SC. Im slamming the people who are currently running it it used to be a great con, and it is still fun..just..not as fun as any toher convnetion I go to know.
-

10 of the 11 positions on Sakura-Con's board are elected by the staff. Only Facilities Liaison is elected by the board. (Maybe this was already understood, but the way you worded the post it made it possibly sound like the current board elects new board members.)
-
umm, if you want to get the absolute CHEAPEST hotel in that area, there is a La Quinta about 8 blocks from the con. I payed, for the weekend, as much as a single night at a con hotel. The room was bigger too. Also, they nearly banned me for trying to find a room-mate. Not a thumbs up in my book. Also, I don't understand why there is so many more industry events than fan run events. It seems like its more focused with pimping new dubs than the fan-run panels we have here at K-Con.
but I'm a little bit biased. you can probably guess why.
-
ehh even though it could be run better i still luv SakuraCon and the WA Convention & Trade Center is sooooooooo freakin nice. It was the first Con i ever went to and will still always be one of my favorite Cons.
-
Sakuracon just has a different feel to in than Kcon and thats fine. its a much bigger convention. Im really looking forward to it this year. ive already got some plans one who Im going with but if you are interested in attending you had better get on it. Hotels are already filling up.
-
yeah, rooms good damned fast :D worth planning ahead for, especially since going back to a room many blocks away in full cosplay with no sleep for way too long can get a bit dangerous, lol.
-
as far as sakuracon goes, i have to say, it is a bit better organized with panels and exhibitors hall and the like. also, food being IN the actual con is pretty awesome. it's got a larger range of things to do, from what i can tell, but i didnt exactly do everything there was to do at it. they usually have more guests, and this year, they're even bringing in Girugamesh, which is exciting. but still, a con is a con. it's nothing too different or shocking.
Umm, hotels. all the hotels in the area actually have really good prices for con-goers. last time, i stayed at the hilton, a block or two away, and it was really nice and not that expensive. the sheraton is good, too. i'm staying there this year, i believe.
-

I plan to be goiing for the first time this year too and I have hard good things about the sheraton but i havent actually looked at it,
-
Has anyone stayed at the paramount? and dose anyone know about parking? ??? anyway cant wait to see everyone at sakuracon
-
I haven't stayed at the Paramount. Parking on the other hand is expensive. For downtown parking plan to spend $25+ a day. So cannot wait for Sakura Con...it's my fav of the two and was the first con I attended.
-
No S-con for me and the family this year, mabey next year.
-
That's too bad. I am really looking forward to Sakuracon this year. The time is passing by so slowly but I guess that is a good thing seeing how there is still a few more things I need to do for my costume.
-
I cant wait for Sakuracon.
For me the time is going by kinda fast XD
-
I stayed at the Paramount in 2006 so I don't know a whole lot about if it has changed since then or not. As for parking..I believe it was valet parking only at the hotel.
-
*Sniffle* I wanted to see Smile DK...why is baby due the same week? Oh well, there will be other years!
-
For those that are going to Sakura Con, anyone planning on going to the Masquerade Ball? I'm the coordinator for 2008/2009 ^_^.

Wow so im pissed unless
i can get a job i cant gooo
and i wanna see smile dk and GAIA is gonna be there D;<
-
I am so looking forward to Sakuracon. The time can't pass any slower....though it does seem like it is passing rather quickly. I still need to make touch ups to my costume =/
-
I'm so excited for Sakuracon!!! Smile.dk and gaia are gonna be there and I'm bringing my sister who's new to anime and manga! I get to dress her up in cosplay, too! xD It's gonna be so much fun!!! Woot!
-
Time is going by way to slowly T-T but at least it gives us time to make awesome costumes :D
-
I need to get paint for shoes or new shoes all together, craft foam, material to remake belt, and redo part of the shoulder armor.....oh yeah and remake the gloves and stockings.....so I got a lot that needs to get done ;D
-
Meh. I'm sadly too lazy to make a new costume for Sakura. ;.; I'm just going as Axel again. XP *needs to get her chakrams back* lol.
I'm still pondering cosplay ideas for kumoricon though.
-
I don't think I'll make it up to Sakuracon '09. It'd cost too much money that I don't have.
Mewcon and KuCon is enough for one year :D
-
....mewcon, sakuracon, and kumoricon are enough for one year.....and next year akicon will be added MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA >:D
-
I'm not cool enough for so many cons yet XD
I'll probably be able to go to Sakuracon next year though :3
-
thats too bad. I'm starting to save up now ;D
-
I can't save up for anything, I haven't even gotten my Mewcon pass yet because all of my money I get goes into wigs and cosplay materials :D
Sakuracon will be go for nect year though! >:3
-
I will end up getting my mew con badge at the door, because I don't have the time off yet and I hope I can get it.
-
all the cons are sooo expenisive, not so much the cons, but all the stuff that goes into the costumes.
-
yeah they are. That is why I make a few and use them a bunch (like two or three cons) then make more.
-
Oh my gosh, I'm sssssssoooooooo excited! Just reserved a hotel room for the con! Woot!
-
hmmm i guess i should really resurve our hotel room........ its just sooo much money, but i guess I only go to 2 a year, so i cant complain. ^-^
-
I'd reserve your room now regardless of whether or not you know if you're able to go because you don't have to pay for it now and you can cancel it if you aren't able to go. I've had my room reserved at the Sheraton since the codes were announced :P
I was thinking of getting Arpegius done by Sakura-con..it might still happen but I really need to finish up my Snowtrooper first.
-
That would be a good idea. I would have a room reserved if I knew that I would be needing one. Now if these plans fall through, which I doubt they will, I will probably end up sleeping in my car the whole time x.x
-
I'm soooo happy that I can just stay at home and commute to sacoolacon XD I have enough friend with rooms that if I DO have any cosplay stuff, it'd be no problem! And also, I live 15 minutes away so it'd seem kinda silly. PLUS. I'm hardly ever going to need to leave con (oh heavens)! TOO MANY PANELS TO RUN.
-

I live at Wajis. It isn't too terribly far but I'm still getting a hoetl.
Llast SC I lived even closer and got a hotel room. It just isn't a con to me if I don't stay there.

You live at Waji's?!?! I'M JEALOUS (although its probably best for my paycheck that I don't!)! And wow, so close to me! I live up in Northgate~
Yeah, I lived very close last year too and got a hotel room. Unfortunately, my budget this year just can't handle it! It's okay, I know if I REALLY need a room I have options ^__^ YAY FOR FRIENDS.
-
I'd love to come to Sakuracon... but with my parents, who knows ;;>>
-
I think you would really enjoy it. One day your parents wont be so over protective, don't they know that over protecting your kid is really bad for them? Remember Finding Nemo? "you can't never let anything happen to him. Then nothing would ever happen to him. Not much fun for little Harpo."
-
lol i hated finding nemo, but that is a good point. i have a friend who's parents are the same way. lol they finally let her go cuz shes gonna stay with us.. ) shes like 16 were all like 19-20) ^-^
-
awwww, ok well were staying at the renissance hotel placeamabob.......any reviews????? any way cant wait to see you all!!
-
hmmm 3 of me in a row! anyway, for those of you who went to kumoricon last year and saw the " good" dante ( tall with big sword).... were auctioning him off at sakuracon (maybe kumoricon too who knows).... This is for dinner date or dancing ( you choose). Please let me know if your intersted.. or see my post in the sakuracon forums!!!

sweet!!! ;D
-
*cough cough* I'm going. >_> including to 3 other cons that year..........I'm gonna be in the hole for sure. :/
-
Yeah tell me about it. I need to start saving up for a hotel x.x
I already paid for my badge ;D Only need to pay for hotel and swag
-
Same here. I pre-reg at Kumoricon every year for Sakuracon, that way I don't have to worry about it. Sometimes though, I'll forget and go "Oh ----! I don't have any money to register for Sakuracon!" But then I remember that I registered back when I DID have money. My only problem is hotel. I don't need to eat anything.
I have a room reserved, too that I forget about. I am on top of this.
-
Good for you. :P
I like to register as soon as I can so I don't have to worry about it too ;D
-
Are you staying with us this year?
-
I planed on it >_>
If that's alright of course ;D
-
Yep. We planned on it too!
-
YAY! I really like staying at hotels that are close to if not in the same building as cons. I don't like having to drive :P
-
I don't like to, either. And I don't like to walk far! I don't mind paying a little extra for convenience. It's at the Sheraton, in case you hadn't already figured it out. XD
-
I'll have to look it up but didn't you say that it was right next to the convention center?
-
Yaaah man. It's the closest one!
-
Sweet.
btw when are you going to the Halloween store?
-
We're reserving ours tonight ^o^
I'm going! I'm actually going this year xD!
-
We're reserving ours tonight ^o^
I'm going! I'm actually going this year xD!
Yay! Congrats! Sakura Con is a fun one. I have the hotel room, just need to register and find more people to stay in the room.

Yay! Congrats! Sakura Con is a fun one. I have the hotel room, just need to register and find more people to stay in the room.
We're having the same trouble xD
but I think a lot of people are in that boat.

When I get home I'll be begging my mother to pre-register us for Sakuracon and get us rooms. My younger brother doesn't really want to go, I don't think, so I'm going to see if my mom will let it be just me, her and my younger sister. That way I can watch the younger sister that's dead-set on going to the con with me and mom can go shopping if she so chooses. Or come with us.
Like... Three months until con!
OH S**T.
-
Like... Three months until con!
o_O
Joann is having a sale today on patterns. So I'm off to make the great trek to Breaverton and gather together the remaining patterns I need for costumes. Plus, I got a new sewing machine for Christmas and cannot wait to use it.
-
I don't mind paying a little extra for convenience. It's at the Sheraton, in case you hadn't already figured it out. XD
Yeeaaa The Sheraton is niiice! Plus they just expanded and renovated the fitness center and pool up on the 30th or sum floor. Suppost to be the second highest pool in North America. Or at least thats what they told me.
-
I will take a swimsuit then. It would be nice to go in the hot tub after a long day of con :P
Or in the middle of the day as a little break to sooth my achy feet ;D
-
Wow I didn't know they had a pool that high up. I'll definitely have to go check that out this year.
-
I KNOW! I want to relax a little more this time :P
-
Lounging around in a hot tub sounds really nice.
-
So we will have to do that some time. Maybe during a time when there isn't a whole lot going on, or right before we go to bed or get ready to go out
-
If anyone has spare room in their hotel room, I have a friend who might be intersted ( was going to stay with us but we ran out of room T-T) :D BTW sakura con is gonna rock. Oh and has anyone heard anything about the renissance (the marriot one???)
-
0_0....3 months sounds like so little time. >_> I feel like I won't get done. *starts working really hard at this moment*
-
3 months sounds like quite a bit of time. All I have to do is finish Albel and find a red ribbon for Misa :P
I'm happy that most of my stuff is already done ;D
-
but I don't have too much done. especially for jasdero. hes the one I'm most concerned on and is probably going to cost the most money. 0_0 but I need to lose more weight before I can completely and utterly work on him. >_>
-
God three months sounds like its soooo far off >.< I actually wish it was much closer.
Yay for MEWcon finally making it so I have a con almost every three months <3
-

im sooo jelouse, I havent even started my costume yet......T-T but grrr still 3 months or 97days....
(^ well not true I have most of the fabric just need to sew it and make accessories. and figure out wig situation... T-T i needs help lol)
-
I doubt I'll be able to go to Sak-con but I hope I can, it sounds like a lot of fun :3
-
I just hope I get my costumes done by then. all the planning....will have gone to waste. 0_0 that would suck massively.
-
I doubt I'll be able to go to Sak-con but I hope I can, it sounds like a lot of fun :3
no you need to go!!! Its going to be sooo much fun!
-
I really want to! Isn't it like $40 for Sakuracon? That seems like a bargain considering that's how much I paid for tiny little Mew x-x
-
>_> I'll have to check but I think it's about 60 at the door. Pre-reg is $45 right now until the end of pre-reg and at the door is $60
-
man the price is so high for at the door. it only goes up like 5-10 bucks for kcon. :/
-
again keep in mind that sakuracon has about 15000 people where kumoricon had about 6000 and it is also in a 7 story convention center. That is going to cost A LOT more to rent out than a hotel.
-
true, very true. but still at the same time. I wonder what the most amount for registering there is for a con.
-
Also as the number of people go up the cost of insurance also goes up.
I'm sure there is a con that cost more than $60. There are some HUGE ones out there :P
-
yeah there are much larger ones in comparison. I will get to indy-con one day. I will. *determined face* but for now I'll just get to scon once and then go from there.
-
I may go to AX, and that's a freaking huge convention.
Until then, werkwerkwerkwerk and get the ruched bits of this skirt to WERK. And the petticoat. And getting the other petticoat to behave. And painting butterfly wings.
-
Comic con is $75 for all four days..and that is the prereg price. I'm thinking of going to either that or AX this year.
That being said..I can't wait for sakura-con..going to be fun. I've got my room reserved at the Sheraton as well. I saw some friends rooms there last year and liked them.
-
@trumby
well that is expensive but it's also 4 days instead of 3(which is awesome XD). and its a big con as well.
-
$60 at door? I'll definitely pre-reg if I can go :D
-
I would love to go to either comic con or AX X3
maybe one year I'll get around to it :P
-
I would like to visit AX once, but budget and transportation has always stopped me. I just hope RL issues dun make me cancel sakura.
-
I intensely want to go to Comicon because Mike and Brian alsways host an Avatar panel there. Do want.
-
I intensely want to go to Comicon because Mike and Brian alsways host an Avatar panel there. Do want.
I would luv to go to their Avatar Panel!! Its suppost to be really good!!!
-
I would want to go to an Avatar Panel would be fun. The Harry Potter panel at mewcon was intense if it was anything like that, or better would be amazing ;D
-
just found out I'll probably be going to AX. 0_0 woah.
so I'll have two big cons this year. first scon then...just wow. I'm still shocked.
-
GOD I WANT TO GO >_<
-
I might go to AX this year instead of Sakura-Con.
:/
-
hey ku-con people should meet up at ax. that'd be cool. :3
I have a major feeling I'm going to get lost there and at scon because there so big. but I know I'll have a better time since I've been to cons compared to my friends I'm going with.
-
ok silly question but whats AX ( I know its a con but which one??)
-
There are epic clips of the Avatar panels from CCon on youtube, they look hilarious and amazing. My dream is to cosplay Suki's tea shop dress from the finale and go to their Avatar panel *_*
-
@hime
it's animeExpo. one of the largest anime cons. has its own little vid section on comcast. :3
-
suki's dress looks sooo pretty!!! and where is anime expo?? ( hmmm cant believe i dont know this already)
-
http://www.anime-expo.org/
heres the website. :3
-
Noooo now i want to go, too bad I dont think its going to be around when im gonna be down there for the btssb opening T-T. Why must hotels be soo expensive....
Oh well Sakura con and kumoricon *sparkly eyes*
-
I'm determined to go to another con besides KCon! I want to go to CCon the most but Sakuracon would probably be more feasible...
-
I'm going to kcon, scon, AX, ory-con, and akicon as well. well I hope I can go to that last one. :/
-
i have friends going to ccon ( need to start their costumes) and I really wnat to go to ax but unless i gain some relitives i can stay with its a no go this year lol
-
My goal for this year is Sakuracon, Kumoricon, and Akicon.
Next year might be the year for something bigger.
Who knows?
-
yeah. same-ish here. i'll be able to get to Sakura, Kumori, and probably Aki, this year. I'm also trying to get to fanime, anime evolution, and MEW if it goes for a second year, but I don't know about those ones, yet.
-
@tofu: Yeah, the extra day does somewhat make up for the price. It think the only reason I'd go to comic con over AX is for all the Star Wars/Firefly costumers so I'll probably end up going to AX. If anyone ends up going we should hang out!
I think I'm going to try to have my Mal costume done by Sakura-con as well...need money to buy stuff for it.. <.<
-
I havent gotten a badge or reserved a hotel room.
I think that if anything I will just pay for one day so I can check out the dealers room and maybe go to a dance. The rest of the time I will just hang out in the park for free. Thats all I normally do and its such a waste to pay $60. to do so.
-
I only payed $35 to go for all three days. If you register early enough its a great deal ;D
-
xD i still havent registered for it.
-
well you need to get on to that :P
Though it's $45 till the end of pre-reg so you should be good ;D
-
xD oh yeah, i know. i always just get caught up in what i want my badge name to be and put it off for like, ever. aahahaha. its the little things that get me. i mean, i've had hotel reservations for like months, at this point.
-
Well I usually make it a character name that I am going to be cosplaying but from now on I think it will be Nikkiolie :P
-
xD that's what i was thinking of doing.
-
my characters change so much so the names tend to be wrong ;D
-
xD i usually stick to one cosplay per con. just because i hate having to travel with multiple costumes, and because it makes it easier when you're trying to find people/people are trying to find you and you dont always switch costumes.
-
I try to have one complicated or detailed costume per con. The other ones I'll wear if I wear them will be like normal clothes ;D
-
I like to have a couple, inevidably I always wear one with horrible shoes, or somthing otherwise uncomfortable. So I can switch. I also bring many accessories "Cat Ears, Brain Slug (David's) etc" so I can just throw somthing together when I need too. I think I change my clothes 4+ times a day lol. But I rarely wear anything REALLY complicated.
-
for me, its one complicated, complete costume that i wear for most of the con. for the other time, i just bring interesting clothing and ears that i can switch into if needed. and i like to have different clothes for the dances. because going to a dance in cosplay can be a downright pain.
-
Yeah the most complicated one I have is Albel. The others are normalish clothes.
-
good times. i havent seen the full albel costume yet.
-
Its not quite done yet. I'm still making touchups for it. The plan is to have it done for Sakuracon but we'll see how that goes ^_^;
-
xD yeah... that's what i'm planning for too. well, then good luck to both of us!
-
Why thank you ^_^.
I'll start working on it soonish :P
-
good times, good times. i'm starting actual work on mine like. next weekend maybe?
-
I need to get the materials I need and in order to do that I have to have money v.v
-
DD: that sucks. yeah, i'm using some birthday/christmas money that i've got lying around to get my fabric.
-
I'm bringing three cosplays to Sakuracon, possibly four. Five if you count the casual whateverism I'm doing Thursday night for the pre-reg line. Angeal is probably what I'm doing Friday, and I'm switching between Grave of Maria and Deke on Saturday if Maria gets broken/too hard to walk in or vice-versa. Valclav is for Sunday because that's A, Easter and B, the Trinity Blood photoshoot.
I suppose it's a good thing I'm staying at the Sheraton. Nothing but a crosswalk and a flight of stairs to get into the con center. Conquering the escalators, however... Crap. There's elevators that go up to the fourth floor, right?
-
DD: that sucks. yeah, i'm using some birthday/christmas money that i've got lying around to get my fabric.
I get a paycheck on Saturday so I'll have money to get stuff this weekend
-
@ Richie: WAIT. You're doing Angeal? Ahhh, so much love for you. I'm warning you like. three and a half months in advance that I may be wanting a hug, okay? : D
@ nikki: well, that's good. what do yyou have to get?
-
I just need to get the fabric to make the belt and gloves and add a little trim to the skirt. Really not too much work ;D
-
yeah. that should be easy enough.
-
@ kuro: If you find me you can have a hug AND a dumbapple. I'm making a whole bunch of them so me and a Zack, Cloud, Genesis and Sephiroth can skip around merrily while swinging the basket. Possibly an Aerith too.
Evil skirt is evil. Curse you, Katsura Hoshino! Why must you make splendid designs I must cosplay and probably horribly maim myself while wearing them?
-
MAH. Really? Like for serious? That is amazing. I would love a dumbapple. falskdjf. That's like my Easter!Kanda version for Sunday. With bunny ears and a basket of Easter candy to give to people. I'll give you candy! : D
-

O.O can I have one too?
-
Sure, why not? I'll make a bunch.
-
I love that game so very very much. I would love to do Zack but I am not near buff enough to pull him off.....maybe Cissnei ;D
-
My arms are kinda twiggy, but they're hairy enough to pass as manly.
-
XD that's great. I might be able to pull off Cloud though ;D
-
ugh speaking of Final Fantasy cosplays I am considering cosplaying Shalua Rui from Final Fantasy VII, once a con rolls around that I dont have too much planned for (so prolly next mewcon) any tips? x.x
-
So far, I've only got one cosplay for Sakuracon planned, possibly going to have a second, depending on my financial situation after everything else is in place. But the one planned for sure is Nathan Explosion from Metalocalypse.
-
I love Metalocalypse! I think the only person I could pull off though would be Toki. I really want to me Murderface, but I'm not big enough, or manly enough.
-
Okay, so it might possibly be a stupid question, but do we have to pay hotel tax if we are residents of Oregon and have valid proof of I.D.? I know somebody knows the answer. It's just my first time going ::)
Oh, but also:
We have a room at the Sheraton. Operation Sakura is definitely a go!
We should have a little mini pool party for all of us at the same hotel. >:]
-
I believe if you show proof that you live in Oregon you don't have to pay taxes.
and I would be up for a pool party ;D
-
Yep! If you live in Oregon you don't have to pay tax. Saves a headache at Nordstrom's, that's for sure.
X3 Sheraton pool party sounds like fun. Thursday night?
-

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but yes, you do have to pay the hotel tax. That's a tax that is paid at any hotel, regardless of where it is located (at least in the U.S.). There's no sales tax on hotel rooms so you don't have to pay that, though.
Also still working on my snowie..need to go buy some paint and epoxy!

Damn. Well, I'm glad I asked. Boo.
Anyway, about the pool party. My group won't be checking in until Friday >,>
We're staying the night at someone's house in Seattle and going down there on Friday morning.
It saves money xD
-
I wasn't sure if you had to or not. That is why I said I believe ^_^
-
i think you do, even with proof. we had to last year. also. pool party is win.
-
no big deal either way. I'm starting to save up now ;D
plus I should get some sort of a tax return
-
xD a little bit early, don't you think? and thats good times.
-
a little early to save or get tax returns? Either way I will only be working the weekends so in three weeks I'll get about $200....maybe. And it's not like I really need to spend the money on anything so I should just save it. I'll tell myself that it is all for Sakuracon but really only a small portion of it is :P
-
In my opinion, it's never to early to start saving. It saves you one hell of a time later on.
-
i suppose. xD but like. its 93 days away. aaah. which actually doesn't SEEM that long.
-
it really doesn't seem too long. I still have a lot I need to do and not a lot of time to do it >_<
-
ugh. yeah.
-
I still have a few touch-ups I need to do >_< MUST GET MATERIAL THIS WEEKEND!
-
xD i was going to but it turns out i have other plans! DD: i won't be able to start for another couple weeks.
-
There really isn't too much I need to do, but finding time to do it will be the issue. I have to make gloves from scratch and I am not looking forward to that DX
-
DD: well, that shouldnt be TOO hard, i hope. then again, i've never made gloves before.
-
Steven said he would help me out, so then I would have to do it sometime on the weekend or during spring break ;D
-
good plan!
-
I should do it a little early in the term so I am not worried about midterms and what not.
-
yeah. getting things off your plate is always nice. and relieving.
-
I may ask him to help me next weekend or so. I think I don't have anything major planed then ;D
-
I have about 90% of my cosplay that I still have to make xD
At least it shouldn't be TOO bad.
-
I have one completely done and I would say 75% on Albel and the last one I am going to buy then it will be done :P
-
My cosplays are scaring me. I need to add a whole 'nother level to a petticoat, make the skirt that goes over it, finish an entire Trinity Blood cosplay, make a whole sword, get wigs, splice together two wigs for my sister's Nia Teppelin, actually MAKE said Nia Teppelin cosplay, and to top it all off I have finals at the end of the month and if I don't do well on those I can't go at all.
D:
-
Wow that is a lot of work. I hope you do good on your tests. Those are way more important than getting costumes made. Also you need to make sure you get some time in there to relax. :)
-
no big deal either way. I'm starting to save up now ;D
plus I should get some sort of a tax return
Tax Returns are Amazing!! Last year my tax return covered just about all my expenses.
-
Yeah last year I got about $200 which easily paid for my hotel and even some of my swag. My parents also gave me another $100 ;D
-
Wow that is a lot of work. I hope you do good on your tests. Those are way more important than getting costumes made. Also you need to make sure you get some time in there to relax. :)
Wow, I wish more people realized this.
I cant even count how many times Ive heard people throw tanrums because their teachers dared to give them homework before a constume. The end result is they refuse to the homework and yell at the teacher for interfering with serious bussiness unti lthey get an A.
Hooray for priorities.
I just bring my homework with me. Soemtimes, it just adds to the costume.
Last Gasukan ( monthly meet up in Seattle) I wore my young Byakuya costume and sat down to do my homework if anyone bothered me I told them to go away becuase " have more important things to do than play games"
It so worked. XD
-
My goal is since it's going to be during my spring term I'm going to finish all of my homework ahead of time. I don't want to end up thinking about it at the con. Hopefully there isn't a huge test afterward >.<;
-
Its the second weekend of spring term for me so I shouldn't have too much to worry about. Though I will try to get everything done before I leave ;D
Also I am starting eating better and working out again. Almost three months left till the con
-
What I find funny is that just about a week after Sakuracon I'll be in Portland with unadulterated access to Fabric Depot for three days. My mother will probably kill me if I come home from that school getaway with a few large bags of fabric, but still.
-
I can't wait to get my tax returns so I can actually buy the stuff to finish my costumes..bah. I got my Mal pistol today though! Now to do more research for the boots and find someone to make the coat for me and I am set...will just need to buy everything then!
-
You are going to be Mal for Sakuracon? I'll keep an eye out for you. I <3 Mal ^_^
-
I wanna see SmileDK....Whhhhaaaaahhhhhhh! I had so much fun at Sakuracon last year. Hope you all have fun while im stressing out learning how to be a new mommy! (aww, I couldnt be happier about the stress though.)
-
Awwww you wont be able to make it? I had a blast last year so I am really looking forward to this year ;D
-
That would be a negative. Baby is due April 1st. Con in the first few weeks of life=bad idea. That is if he comes on time. Id rather not deliver in a hotel room in Seattle. LOL or at the convention center itself! There will be other years.
-
Ok yeah I can see where that would be a bad idea >_>
Good luck with the delivery and what not.
-
You are going to be Mal for Sakuracon? I'll keep an eye out for you. I <3 Mal ^_^
Going to try to..it is going to depend a lot on money though, as that coat is going to be super expensive to have made.
I wanna see SmileDK....Whhhhaaaaahhhhhhh! I had so much fun at Sakuracon last year. Hope you all have fun while im stressing out learning how to be a new mommy! (aww, I couldnt be happier about the stress though.)
You can always have someone call you and you can listen to it, at least!
-
Well I wish you the best of luck ^_^ I would love to see Mal.
-
For 2009, so far we have Smile.dk (of DDR fame) and the Jrock band Girugamesh coming.
'Bout damn time too, maybe after they get bigger they could come to Portland.
Animecons need to get more actual J-Rock and less of the poppy stuff, imo.
-
Sakuracon is less than two months away! How are cosplay progresses coming along?
-
I have money! So today I'm going out to buy some fabric for my Gentern Cosplay. I'm also going to pick up some clear colored subject dividers for the mask. I already have a wig on the way for it, and almost have enough money to afford the shoes.
Axel still needs a new wig. I'm gonna save up for them after I finish my Gentern, and then his coat needs to be made. Other then that though, I'm set.
-
are you going to get the wig for Soubi?
-
I'm not sure if I can afford Soubi. The wig isn't the hard part, it's the costume. I don't think Steven would be willing to sew three whole outfits for me before Sakuracon. =/
-
Well that is too bad =/
-
I'm pretty sure Steven's still up for Natsuo, though!
-
that's good ;D
-
Question: Do badges get mailed out, or do we have to go pick them up?
I'm new to Sakura, sooooo...
-
Sak won't mail out badges. I'd go the night before to pick up the badge so you aren't plagued with LINES FOREVER.
I finally got my confirmation for pre-reg after a month and a half. Jesus christ, I was freaking out that someone stole my check or something.
-
yeah sadly they do not get mailed out. One thing I am not too happy for, but I should be able to go to Pre-reg Thursday night to pick mine up. We are going to be leaving about 10am to 12 pm Thursday
-
-headesk- It's a good thing I looked at this thread I didnt even know that. XD
Arg, I have 3 cosplays to make and I cant start until The last week of April...;_;
-
>_> sakuracon is the beginning or April
-
Er...wtf. >w< I meant the last week of MARCH! Stupid fingers why do you decive me!? DX
Ok so yeah I meant march and stuffs and im only gonna have a week or less to do them.
-
Ok I was thinking you meant that but if you didn't >_>; well I could see that happening too XD
-
XD Im not that retarded.
I hate it when I put things off until then. But this time I cant help it now that I got budget cuts im makeing almost every one of my cosplays.
Blarg! -counts on fingers- Ok so I'll start on monday probly and I only have until thursday if I can push my friend into letting me stay friday at the latest....Oh crapple....I have to do Debbito's pants, Minato's jacket and if I can fit the two others in: Sakon's tunic thingy and Patty's.....everything. X_X'''
-
I hope you get it done ;D
I can't wait for Sakuracon. I think this weekend I am going to put Youji on and take some pictures ;D
-
I hope so too. None of my friends besides Tessa are willing to help me. And I cant sew and I also dont wanna just throw all my stuff at Tessa and tell her to do them for me XD
Yey~! 8D I was hopeing to fit in a loveless cosplay for Sakuracon buuuttt...I have no clue who I could be thanks to my higth. >w<
-
Nikki, can you reccommend anyone who could sew a costume for me that wouldn't cost an inordinate amount of money?
-
hmmmm....you can ask Sugarlat or Danayoki on here, they might help you out.
-
Much thanks! : o )
-
I hope they can help, though they may be busy with making their own >_>;
-
I have a backup if I need it.
-
So close to time >_<
I need to make sure to bring the under armor home next weekend for Youji.
I also need to finish sewing a glove >_>;
-
I hope I can go to my bday is the 12th of Apirl! I'll be 22
-
This is kind of on topic so i must go off on my tangent becuase I am angry.
On not being able to sew-
It is THE most frustrating thing in the world. My firends complain that thy always have to make costumes for me, but they wont show me how to do it myself, which I would MUCH prefer.
For all the time and complaing required for them to make me a costume they never F-ng do it right!
Im sure NO ONE knows the character but Im doing Nicholai from Shadow hearts covenent.
A one eyed bat can see that he has very belled sleeves, I emphasized this many times.
Does my friend even TRY to make them correctly? Hell no!
My coat has very straight and...kind of but-not-really- wide sleeves.
Last year my costume was too small.
The year before it was about three sizes too big.
For the love of god just teach me how to do it myself! >_<
aaaanyway, for SC yes, i should have Nicholai ( the 'not so popular RPG shoot makes me happy) and yet again Renji. I wanted to stop cossplaying Renji last year but apparently Im not allowed.
Oh, and young yakuay from he Manga-soon to be anime.
-
yeah that can be a bit of a pain the in ass. I would say just practice on your own. Sewing isn't really TOO hard. I have taught myself the basics....and I mean REALLY basic stuff. I'm not that great at it, but if you find a pattern it will show you how to do everything ^_^
You may have to look up some terminology though XD
-
And watch Youtube videos. I'm sure there's stuff on there that teach you how.
Also if you're still in high school a lot of them have sewing classes. Even if you don't take it you could always go to the teacher after school and ask for some help on how to sew.
-
so there are ways to learn. The hardest thing I have sewn so far have been gloves and they are turning out alright. I'm sure making a whole costume would be hard though x.x
-
have you guys already started on your cosplays!??! xDDD
-
kinda, sorta.
And by that I mean the minimum. ::)
-
I can see that. haha your Kid cosplay progress has stayed at 15% since we decided. Haha
-
I can move that to 20% now, thank you very much >:O
x3 heh
-
have you guys already started on your cosplays!??! xDDD
for Sakuracon? Yeah I don't want to be rushing as time gets closer :P
-
:'( :'( :'(
Just got the total shutdown from my mom saying i cant go :-[
its kinda pretty lame 'cuz i'd already bought stuff for Sakuracon cosplays... i guess i'll have to use them for kumoricon ^^
-

thats too bad. Yeah I would just save up money for Kumoricon then ;D
-
Silver lining! Haha
>MAKI< o0o0oh 20% Impressive haha. Did you get your wig styled yet Dear?
>NIKKI<Your all insane for starting already! xD Lolx
-
the con is less than 2 months away DX I want to get done before then. I would like to have all my costumes done before spring break starts.
-
Ugh, my cosplays keep changing because of cost :( It's only like a month and a half away and am still not sure on some costumes.
-
Thats too bad....I am for sure going to do two.....not sure about another one though. It depends if Steven is going to do it or not ;D
-
What is Steven doing this year?
-
Well I am trying to get him to cosplay Natsuo for my Youji from loveless....not too sure about his others though >_>
-
Sakuracon is sooooo Close I can feel it!
-
>MAKI< o0o0oh 20% Impressive haha. Did you get your wig styled yet Dear?
Not yet >,> I'm doing the hand guns on Thursday though.
-
I know. I just wish that it would be closer. I only have three more weeks of school, then spring break then two weeks of new classes and it's HERE! XD
-
IT'S COMING UP SOON
-
Hell yes it is! I am so looking forward to this X3
-
I'm only really looking forward to three things:
1. There are going to be 7 or 8 really good DDR players (i.e. at or above my level) there for the tournament whom I've not met in person before, and a bunch of others whom I haven't seen in a year.
2. I'll hopefully have 2 hours or so of free time to go through and do a decent Great Attack run.
3. Magic Draft Tournament (I can't compete in constructed tournaments because I can't afford to get good cards AND fun cards.)
-
only really looking forward to two things.
1) cosplayers (including my awesome Tifa)
2) dealers room ;D
-
I NEED TO FINISH MAH COSPLAYS.
I'm looking forward to some aspects. leaving right after school=no, missing a day of school=no, amazing cosplayers=yes, getting to cosplay=yes, Sam not being able to go= D8<.
oh and the money issue. I hate money. >_<
but hey you win some you lose some.
-
I fear asking how bad registering at the door is..? >< I'm picturing these horrible lines based on past K-con experiences, and K-con is a bit smaller than S-con.
-
No idea... I've always preregistered gotten there a bit late.
-
I fear asking how bad registering at the door is..? >< I'm picturing these horrible lines based on past K-con experiences, and K-con is a bit smaller than S-con.
I got there about 10 am last year and there was a shorter line for normal reg than there was for pre reg. There is about 20 people checking everyone in so it goes rather quickly.....compared to kumoricon at least.
-
That reminds me--I need to find out if I'll need to get my ID card replaced before the con.
-
leaving tomorrow after school. Oh god I'm anxious and nervous >_<
-
I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED! I am home in Portland now and we will be leaving about 11 am tomorrow ;D
-
I'M EXCITED TOO. I won't be able to sleep.
-
SOEXCITEDSOEXCITEDSOEXCITED. ><
-
Soooo Psyched!! Check in tomorrow at lunch, hang out with friends, Hit up Gameworks and then hit the pool! Sooooo Excited!!!!
((p(>o<)q))
-
I'm leaving my house in less than 6 hours and I'm still awake <.<
-
I don't get to leave until tomorrow mornin'. :<
-
we are leaving in about two and a half hours. See everyone there ^_^
-
I don't get to leave until tomorrow mornin'. :<
Me too. We're getting there early to get in the pre-reg line and then changing... somewhere >>
lol
-
only really looking forward to two things.
1) cosplayers (including my awesome Tifa)
2) dealers room ;D
To be absolutely honest, it seems like that is all anybody goes to Sak for anymore.
-
I don't really care about the dealer's room. I'm mostly excited to hang out with friends and meet new cosplayers, act silly, dance, and have a good time xD
... and wear my cosplay, o'course x3
-
Anyone here not at Sakuracon as I write this? I have to save up for other conventions and awesome camera equipment so sakuracon was just not in the cards for me...
-
My goal is to make some new friends this time around. 8D
-
Whoo! I just got back from con. I have to say it pretty much rocked.
It was really nice meeting some of the forumers at con. I ended up running into LTCommanderRichie, Sagebell, Makichan, Tofutakeout, and Cassiopeia. I can't wait for the next Sakuracon.
-
This con was awesome! I actually think it was a bit better then k-con. >_>
Woo! I got mentioned above. XD
It was great seeing a lot of people from the forums as well. And I got tons of awesome pics.
I can't wait for next year, I definitely want to go again.
-
Better than KCon? How so? 8D
-
It's more chill, larger, more awesome costume, freaking huge dealers room.
But there are some aspects that make k-con better.
-
I'll make sure to go next year. Cosplay is love, and I'm sure more people would recognize obscure characters at Sakuracon over Kumoricon.
-
dude totally. I got so much love as lucia, where at k-con I got like none.
-
The only main reason why I like kumoricon better is because it seems more... friendly? I don't really know what word I'm looking for lol. Maybe it's just because I know more people here in the area or something. Well, it was my first time going and I had a lot of fun! Gotta say though... Drama-con '09, indeed xD
but that's a looooong story.
Anyway, I'm glad I got to see some of you and I'm sorry I didn't see Nikki in her spiffy Baccano! wear. My phone died Dx
-
Yess! Sakura-con was a blast.
@osla: I totally saw a girl that looked exactly like you this morning at the con o.o
Also HI MAKI, lawl. I totally didn't recognize you at first.
And our Baccano! photoshoot was amazing! I now must convince someone to be Ennis for Kumoricon.
-
@osla: I totally saw a girl that looked exactly like you this morning at the con o.o
Did you say 'hi' thinking it was me? 8D
-
I ended up staying in Seattle in case my Drivers License showed up. All in all though, the convention was a blast. I was tired as hell most of the time, though. But we got a lot of attention, which made it all worth it.
-
Sakuracon went all right. Working from the inside, you see how sloppy a lot of things are, but I can't really complain overall. Here are a few highlights:
-I got some excellent GA scores on DDR
-I beat Cynic on a song (A on heavy, by two points) in the DDR tournament (lost the match though) and beat Tada 2-0
-The Classic Console Gaming was really well run, really well prepared, and just functional in general, despite some things not working out, like only having one Nintendo 64.
-I got to meet some of the Seattle DDR players I've talked to on forums--Kebi, Cynic, Nuggety, Laura, Tony--as well as Crono from Victoria, BC. I also got to see my buddies Pantsuo, CODX, KDDR, eric-c-c, KogaRyu (who doesn't play DDR, but he plays video games so he's good to go IMO), and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few others. :P
-I got a decent amount of worship after the dance Feat. Smile.DK. I actually left for most of their performance because they were off-sync and out of tune, but whatevs. I danced, I took my shirt off, I had a good time. I also spent most of the time there with earplugs because it was STUPIDLY LOUD, but I'm glad I went.
-I didn't really forget anything major, like my cell phone charger, or money.
Here are a few things that weren't so smooth:
-I had really crappy PA for the most part on DDR, to the point where I just gave up on trying to do well on anything after a while.
-Some of the other staff were kind of douche-y. Most of them were really cool though.
-The programming director and wired manager both dislike me.
-The M:TG booster draft tournament started three and a half hours late, so I had to drop after my third game. :/
-KogaRyu wanted to play Initial D with me, and we never got around to it. Maybe some other time. :[
-One of the selection buttons on one of the DDR machines stopped working during the con...I think they might have fixed it by the time I left though.
-Again, the noise in Main Events was too much. I'm glad I went and got earplugs.
-The setup for DDR was really sloppy. They put it on 1 song, free play, which made it take forever to get on the machine and pick your song. It should have been on 1 song, event or 3 songs, event, with Extra Stage turned off. Whatever though. I'll just forgive that as them not having a lot of experience with conventions.
-
I had a blast. MY LEGS ARE SO SORE THOUGH.
Looking forward to finding pictures online soon.... 8]
-
My feat were so freaking dead by the time I got home today. I rode my bike back from downtown after staying up 4 days straight, standing up a lot of the time, stomping around, walking, or dancing the rest. It was ridiculous.
-
Also HI MAKI, lawl. I totally didn't recognize you at first.
And our Baccano! photoshoot was amazing! I now must convince someone to be Ennis for Kumoricon.
LOL ::waves::
You guys better post pictures of the Baccano! shoot. DO WANT >:3
If it wasn't so early, I would've been there TT_TT
-
It was a lot of fun. I will get my pictures posted up tomorrow morning though. I need some sleep x.x
-
This year was awesome! Got the chance to meet a few of you, took a bunch of pics and had a blast. This years Arcade and gaming was Amazing. Throughout the con I shuffled between 3 different cameras. I'll try and get pics up soon.
-I didn't really forget anything major, like my cell phone charger, or money.
Forgot my cell charger last year. Was the equivalent of losing about $40.
-
I only had one sucky experience and that was my phone died, can never be used again type of dead, and it almost burned my ear off in the process. >_<
But on the upside my friend Quinci who was with us kept being so adorable when she'd ask for pictures with people are she'd go into fangirl mode. She saw a tall lelouce and was like "I want a romantic picture with him!". so after he disappeared we went searching for him and we found him in the exhibitor's hall. she told him "hug me like you love me!" and we couldn't stop laughing at that picture. XD
still working on pics as we speak.
-
Alright I got my pictures up ^_^

-
Perhaps I should have posted this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/pieisexactlythree/sets/72157616630914437/) in here.
-
I lost my badge, ID and money all in one! And I think I left my phone charger in the hotel. I spent most of my money though, so I only lost 20$, and I got a new badge for free. The only thing I guess I'm bummed about was losing my ID, it was a cute drivers license picture. XD
All in all though, I had an awesome time. I got a lot of attention and met a lot of people!
-
Yeah I see your picture everywhere x.x
-
I left my phone by accident and I was locked out of my apartment while in cosplay Dx
I had to borrow a stranger's phone to repeatedly call the emergency office number, which no one ever answered (F*** you false emergency #. YOU FAIL). Btw Nikki, your roommate was nice enough to let me use her cell. I didn't know of anyone to ask lol. I thanked her many, many times.
I got in my place at about 9-something.... SUUUCKAAAGE.
My poor mother thought I was abducted because my phone died and I have no way of charging it since it's now in Forest Grove. At least my friends have it though :O
-
really? I wonder which of the roommates it was XD
-
Oh whoops, I meant Boogiepop Nikki.
I guess I should have specified lol we live in the same building... sort of. I did get to see you at the con though! It's too bad we didn't hang out at the con. Did you swim in the Sheraton pool? Brrrr xD
-
*sigh* sad day, I thought I was special for a second v.v
-
xD
I think you're special Nikki. :'D
-
A lot of people around me lost a lot of stuff. D:
I SWEAR IT WASN'T ME WHO TOOK IT ALL
-
apparently one of the artists from AA had like $2000 worth of stuff stolen. 0_0
@cassi
You made me laugh at the little thing you said which made me have a coughing fit-is sick- but man that was funny. XD
I'd post my S-con album but I sort of made it friends only. :/
-
Did you swim in the Sheraton pool? Brrrr xD
Yea the hot tub was freezing. Other then that playing with the beach ball was pretty fun. Almost killed myself walking back barefoot on the marble floor. Roommates thought it would be fun to steal my sandals. XD
-
Also HI MAKI, lawl. I totally didn't recognize you at first.

If it wasn't so early, I would've been there TT_TT
I'll probably put up a few on my facebook tomorrow :D
-
I'ma get my half of the Baccano! photos up by Friday. Anthony, you should send me the ones that kyle took on your camera sometime or something.
@Maki- Oh lord! I'm glad someone was able to help, I was over in Beaverton last night. Were you able to get in your house last night? Also we should hang out again soon since all of our Sakuracon plans fell through and since going to goodwill and stuff before con was cash.
-
hey anyone who went to sakuracon!
Dose anyone know who the 3 background dancers for smile dk were?
-

NO BUT THEY WERE AWESOME. XDD I LOVED THEM.
They were the reason I stayed to see smile.dk perform twice. :D

Yeah, I got in really late but at least I got in. I was soooo hungry, haha.
Yes! We need to hang out again. Maybe watch ghost haunting shows or make cosplay >:3
-
But not both at the same time! I might sew my fingers to my costume out of fright >:
-
my friend went he got me a present but i wont find out till sunday wahhhh!!!

1) Tell me where I said I disliked you. I don't appreciate you saying things like that without backing things like that up. Not cool, especially since I just started reading the forums here like TODAY. If you have problems, you talk to me.
2) I've had it as one song since I ran the arcade back in 2005. 3 songs is going to take you longer to wait. You also have to keep in mind the DDR experts are just a small niche of people we have to cater to in gaming, when we plan these things out, I have to look at EVERYONE. That said, I had to fight (read: order) with my gaming manager and wired coordinator to get that DDR tournament to happen on Friday in the first place. Telling me I have lack of experience with 5 years of working conventions is an insult to which I do not appreciate.
-
Had a good time. Didn't get to do as much karaoke as i wanted to though.
-

I couldn't even find the room until the last day which my voice was gone by then. XD
-
Jon, first of all, I have contacted you on the Sakuracon forums at least once addressing your apparent hostility seeking to resolve any personal politics that might be hindering us from operating in a collaborative manner. Furthermore, if one of the first things you encounter on a new forum is a complaint about you, perhaps you should consider fixing the problem, rather than trying to start an argument.
Second, you didn't run the ddr tournament. Kevin and Amber did.
-
I went. I talked to so many people and had so much fun!

Show me where I said I ran the tournament. The people running the wired were going to NOT have a DDR tournament. I had to essentially tell them why that was a bad idea.
I shouldn't encounter airing of "this guy doesn't like me" and any public forum, especially from a moderator. You're the face of the convention on these forums and expressing your opinions is not a wise idea. IF you want to discuss this further, please feel free to email me and clear this bad air up. Saying I claim to dislike you on a public forum, especially when representing a convention that is closely tied to the one I staff for, make both conventions look bad. I'm sure you do not want to demean either convention, yes?
-
I'm asking DancingTofu and I, Jon to finish the rest of this in private, as it's primarily a personal dispute. If either feels that anything more needs to be clarified publicly, please contact me.
Also, there is nothing wrong with disagreeing with a moderator. That fact shouldn't have been brought into the discussion.
-
Jon and i have discussed the matter via pm and the confusion has been remedied. i apologize for the disruption.
-
back to sakuracon, my friend got me a gackt concert poster i have one that loks just like it only with out the tour dates
-
Who's going this year? I am and I'll be wearing Naoto for sure and hopefully bat!Kallen.
Pre-reg is only $40 till September 30th!
And what are the best hotels to stay at~?
-
I am going. Not sure what I am going to wear though. I like the Sheraton because it is across the street :D
-
Oooh. So I have a question, do we have to have our hotel before we register or can we add in the con codes later? Because I might get to reg today but I don't have any hotel plans yet~
-
Turns out I have Good Friday, specifically the Friday that the first day of Sakuracon falls on, off of school! That's probably the only upside to going to a Catholic school now, not missing school for a con.
I'll probably be Bishop, some form of Sheryl Nome, I know I'll be General Tiedoll and some form of Lenalee. Then Maria might make an appearance. Might. Probably not, if I really think about it, but you never know.
So yeah! Lots of D.Gray-Man still, some Macross Frontier and some DOGS. This is gonna be a bitchin' con.
-
I've noticed the Rennissance is always the cheapest - we got it for 99 a night last year. Service and the rooms were nice, and it's only a two block walk to the convention Center.
I'm looking into booking again there this year.
Just FYI for those who asked ^^
-
Oooh that is cheap. Thanks b
Does Sakuracon have Day Zero/Pre-reg like KCon does?
-
yeah.
-
I stayed at the Paramount last time and it was fairly nice for the price. We booked our room kind of late though. . . Eek, I should probably book my room for next year. @_@ You can book your room without registering for the convention.
I believe SakuraCon has badge pick up for pre-registered people on Thursday night but at-con reg starts on Friday. It's hell, too. Oh God. Last year we were in line for 5 hours. . . We finally got to the front, and the computer system went down. Not their fault, but it sure did suck.
-
:O
I'll try and get there on Thursday and do the whole getting-badge thing if I can.
For us minors, does the adult at con with us have to be related to us? I know we have to have the parent permission slip too in any case but, yeah.
-
They don't have to be related to you. But I do believe your adult has to be attending the convention. I sign for a friend of ours from Canada that stays with us during Sakuracon, and everything works out okay for us.
-
Cool beans, that'll be no problem then. Thank you kindly~
People's favorite thing about Sakuracon? 8-3
-
how big it is and all the cosplayers :3
-
Obscure cosplay probably get recognized a lot more at bigger cons. <3

You can't fire me- I quit! :P

Actually this Portlander is hoping to get up to Seattle and experience Sakuracon some day. From what I've heard it sounds like it's really awesome. Not to mention a buddy of mine goes there PaladinCecil, known as PaladinElric among the Risembol Rangers.
-
I love the LOCATION. If there's nothing going on at the con, there's so much shopping and touristy stuff to see too. It's in a nice area that I don't feel threatened in (the hobos had some creative signs though) and there was so much fun stuff to do besides the convention. Sci-Fi and Music museum, a small theme park, several malls, Pike's Place. . . It was great. :) And my favorite band was playing at a club down the street. Ha ha. Awesome all around.
-
I am going to Sakura-con again of course. 2010 will be my fifth year..kind crazy o.o

Yep, your adult has to be attending the convention for Sakura-con, but it doesn't have to be a parent, as long as your legal guardian signs the permission form.

Its funny, Seattle is a very exciting place-until you live there. I live right above Kinokuniya and Wajimaya where I could get a buss anywhere downtown and everyday Im all "meh nothing to do"....or it could be because Im poor. >_>
As I also realized at KC the Seattle hobos are not NEARLY as viscous as the ones in Portland. Yelling at everyone and following us G-damn! >_<
-
I am going again~
I agree with people recognizing more obscure cosplays there. It's nice for us cosplayers who don't follow the current trends.
Also anyone up for King of Fighters cosplay contact me :>
-
We booked our room yesterday and I pre-reged too.
-
I'll be eighteen by then, so we'll see if I can get the money together. ^^
-
Ug. I never ended up going last year. ;.; Even after I paid to go. Everything got screwed up. Maybe I'll go this year....MAYBE. T.T
-
i want to go but it cost loads of money cuz i need to stay at a hotel
-
Honestly, if it werent for the fact that I live five minutes away-I wouldnt waste my money. Im really tired of their crap.
"Were a 'family friendly convention" (whenever it comes to what WE want) Congrats on becoming sell out Wh-s.
-
wow that was funny and i cant say true cuz iv never gone
-
^^ Sakuracon is going to be soooo cool
-
i want to go but it cost loads of money cuz i need to stay at a hotel
Yeah it is going to be about 200 per person for our room x.x
-

Give or take that sounds about right.
-
Thats pure insanity IMO I mean I paid full price for my room at the Hilton- 264 for two nights. I can only figure out what the price of the hotel up there would be if you paid for it yourself.
-
Yeah it is 200 a night for three nights, room tax is 16%, and then parking is something like $25 or 30 a night x.x
-
... I paid 67 for two nights at the hilton? xD But there was also like... a lot of us. ^^;;
-
... I paid 67 for two nights at the hilton? xD But there was also like... a lot of us. ^^;;
its a quirk of mine but I am not a gigantic fan of packed hotel rooms, I prefer 1-3 people at the very MAX, I like everyone to have a bed and room to walk around. This year I was by myself (well I offered a free room but the people I offered never showed)
-
The Green Tortoise Hostel, 3 blocks down Pike Street from the Convention Center, is an excellent location for those looking to reduce expenses for Sakuracon. Private rooms for (IIRC) up to 4 people cost something like $70/night. It's also a pretty secure lodging option with free breakfast and a kitchen that anyone can use. I stayed there in 2008 and didn't have any problems with it whatsoever.
If you do go here, remember to bring a padlock if you stay in one of their dorm rooms so that you can use the lockboxes that they provide.
-
I almost wasn't going to go because of cost thinns. But I love it too much, it was the first con I went to back when it was still just in a single hotel. It is, as someone noted, much more expensive to attend. Mainly the hotels. I always stay 4 nights, so it's hard to find roommates for me. but if you only stay 2 or even 3 it is a lot easier and if ya find 4 roomates it helps the price a lot. It is so much bigger, but I find that fun now. I have mewcon for my new baby size con, Kumoricon for my growing teen size con, and Sakuracon for my big adult size con. ^^
-
So many new experiences..after going to Kumoricon (which was my first con + first time going to Portland..) I am going with some friends I went to K con with to Sakuracon..it shall be my first time going to Washington >,<
-
See you guys there =3 Hopefully BoogiePop will have her Cassandra done.
I am re-amping my Sophitia. Can't wait to see you guys
-

You two are going to have to find me in Sak's Prog office. Cassandra and Sophitia are pretty heavily plaved in SC by me. That, and I think I've seen the best Tira, but not a Cassandra or Sophitia. :D

Folks I am seriously considering going to Sakuracon just to sample it. After everything I've heard a little adventure I think would do me some good. Besides which I'm a generally very curious person. And no jokes about curiosity killing the cat!
-
I have to say...no matter what it takes, if you enjoy K-con...definately find a way to Sakura-con. The convention center is so huge & there is so much going on that you can never see it all. Not to mention, Seattle is a blast so if you are bored at the con or killing time until a panel, just wander a bit...there is so much to do. The food around the convention center is awsome and there are several hotels to pick from that are all withing a couple blocks of the con. Plus I have friends in Seattle so I get to hang out with people I dont see often :P.Sakuracon was the first con I attended and I fell in love & wanted more....that is how I ended up at K-con, & plan to start adding some more cons to the list to fill the time in.
It does cost a bit unless you carpool/room stuff but its totally worth every penny...I usually only stuff 4 people to my room though since I like my space. I stayed at the Sheraton last year & they ended up stealing $700 from my friends CC that we used to hold the room...that was taken out before we even checked out. She is still fighting for her money back. We are trying the Paramount this year since its also super close & its a bit cheaper...hope they dont steal from me...its my CC this year.

Oh ya...the Wing Dome in Seattle is the bomb!! If you don't mind taking Bus#5 uptown a bit, its worth the trip. Plus, if you like spicy food, you can try the 7 Deadly Wing challenge! I would be happy to take people there and eat...or challenge them!! Winners get the meal free, a T-shirt, and picture on the wall. I did mine!
-
I plan to go to the next Sak. I missed the last one due to being sick. It was the first Sak I'd since I started going.

*shameless plug* Sakuracon's Masquerade Ball has been announced!~
http://www.sakuracon.org/programming/masquerade_ball.php (http://www.sakuracon.org/programming/masquerade_ball.php)
I hope that people planning on going to Sakuracon can make it to the ball (I'm the Masquerade Ball Coordinator for Sakuracon ^_~).
The link to the Sakuracon Forum thread discussing the ball is at the bottom of the page.

i'm on the same boat as you. went to kcon as first con, and now me and my friends are soo looking forward to sakura.

I've been to Kcon twice and wanted REALLY WANTED to go to sakura (both years!) but i havn't been able to :'(
-
I really should go ahead and sign up for Staff
This.
-
I have no idea if I could even get the time off work for this let alone afford to go or get a room. and of course if I go I staff...
-
It's official. My bro and I are going to S-con. We pre-registered! I'm anxious to go to a new con, but a tad intimidated by the number of attendees~ >_> whooooooo~ Kyah!! :P
-
It looks as though I'm one step closer to my trip to Sakuracon due to some good happenstance.
-
Sakura forums are empty... :> K-con kind of too... did we all turn into Zombies? :3
-
S-con forums are ALWAYS empty. Lol.
-
S-con forums are ALWAYS empty. Lol.
Haha. It will be my first year going next year, and I thought I'd visit the forums. I figured that if they were ~4X the size of K-con, there would be more activity online...but... NooooOOOOoooo. Oh wellz. :D
-
Yeah, Sakura-con forums are usually empty until December/January.
-
They're usually empty until I log in and start causing problems. ;]
-
DancingTofu, I certainly hope that was meant in jest. (meant as a joke.)
-
I actually am a bit notorious there, but not horrendously so, and I don't intend to maintain that reputation.
I've been a bit notorious just about everywhere, at one time or another. :P
-
I was not there so I cannot say what gave you your semi-notorious reputation. But whatever happened then and there, I can see that you honestly want to make a better repute for yourself and that's good. I pride myself on travelling the path of respectability. I find it causes a lot less drama (I don't need no stinking drama!). :D

^ This, is what makes you AWESOME
Thank you for bringing respect to our forum, the crazed people on here seem to need it.
I am looking for a nice place to stay myself... so if you know anything, tell me right away!
-
I've mentioned it a few times, but maybe you've missed it? The Green Tortoise Hostel is nearby, secure, and very affordable.

Just joined in the thread, so thank you. I'll mention it to my hotel peeps.

I second the drama thing
-
Ah NightLotus, you show good sense. My immeadiate family and I don't have any drama, we have our friends and relatives to provide that.
And on Sakuracon I'm most certainly looking foward to attending it and getting a boat load of awesome cosplay pictures, and perhaps even a celebrity photo or two for my blog.

Hey does anybody know of a good priced safe hotel close to Sakuracon? I'd appreciate any information.
-
We are trying the Paramount this year...heard good things and its only a block and a half from the convention center. I like my stay at the Sheraton and being right across the street from the con was definately awsome...but someone at that hotel stole almost $800 from my friends credit card that was used to reserve the room and she is still in a battle over it. If it weren't for that fiasco, I would definately recommend the Sheraton...but the Paramount rates as second best as far as reviews from con goers and proximity to the con itself.
-
Hey does anybody know of a good priced safe hotel close to Sakuracon? I'd appreciate any information.
Hilton and Red lion. Very close and some of the cheaper ones. But not insanely cheap, but farely priced. Red lion is a little farther then Hilton and you get a max of 5 people instead of 4 there.
@Charles
Right now the S-con forums have been pretty lively. To me at least since all the topics I post in have been updating daily. XD And that's been for a good while now. Also I tried figuring out booking on Green Tortoise Hostel and it was well....A little confusing to me. :/
"No Drama" is the number one rule at Janelle's house. That and "don't eat all the food" but I think that's only directed at me.
-
Thanks tofutakeout I appreciate this lass.
-
No problem. ^_^ I'm digging that you called me lass. <3

Ya i remeber you telling us that at the meet up lol
-
I am really looking forward to this. I enjoy staying at the Sheraton right next to the convention center. Not far to walk or anything XD
-
It sounds like a wonderful convention according to what I've heard.
I can't wait!
I hope my parents will let me go!
It is Easter weekend, after all...

We will kidnap you!
Jess & I already have our room reserved for the 2 of us...the 2 people we usually stay with at the cons are probably going as well but not 100% sure yet, & possibly a friend of ours from California is gonna fly up^^ We will have an army there...but we will need a Sarge to help control them all...
-
Okay... I'll try and convince them.
Where are you staying?
-
I'll hopefully be able to go, for I was invited to go with some of my friends. So if anyone needs a ride at least to Chehalis, I might be able to help... I may try taking my own car up instead as well, it all depends on everything is all.
-
Okay... I'll try and convince them.

The Paramount...I like the Sheraton but they stole money from a friends credit card when we stayed there for the last con...
-
I need another costume to wear. I have something in mind...I may end up doing it but it will be a secret for now, just in case I don't.
And I love the Sheraton. They are a great hotel, very relaxed and have a great system for checkout times :D
-
I had no issues with the stay at all...they were close to the con & extremely comfortable stay...but someone there stole $800 from my friends card...so im kinda leary giving my card info there.
-
To those who have been to S-con, I was wondering if you've experienced rain during the con? I'm not familiar with weather in Seattle around April...
Arigato~
-
yes, you should expect it to rain all three/four days. If it doesn't your lucky but it normally rains at least a little. In 08 it snowed x.x
-
To those who have been to S-con, I was wondering if you've experienced rain during the con? I'm not familiar with weather in Seattle around April...
Arigato~
ya, I lived in Chehalis for about 6 years, and it does rain about every day in April, and since Seattle is further north, it's an almost definite.
-
I should register soon. x_x
And yes expect some rain...And coldness.
-
I is sooooo happy
my mom found a way that i'll be able to go!!!
seattle better be ready for Devil May Cry epicness
-
I need another costume to wear. I have something in mind...I may end up doing it but it will be a secret for now, just in case I don't.
I am excited to see it ^.^
I heard that online registration ends soon... I'm afraid I wont be able to get it in time O.O
-
yeah, chris and I would love to go but I dont think it is in our buget this year, unless we both get awesome jobs
-
I hope on-line registration doesn't end soon. I want to be registered for all the days so I can just get up and go as well as get a hotel room near the convention.
-
I hope ion-line registration doesn't end soon. I want to be registered for all the days so I can just get up and go as well as get a hotel room near the convention.
You can register online until 3-7/10....it will be $45 if you register by the end of the year & $50 by the date I listed before...$60 for at door registration.

Thanks for the info. And Cyrus to quote a certain wascaly wabbit, "This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

I'm so pumped for Sakuracon... It'll be my first time doing any kind of extensive prop work, and even though it's still a long ways off my dad has already started sketching out some really awesome weapon ideas for my groups Soul Eater cosplays.
He has like every tool known to man and can pretty much build anything, so I'm pretty excited. There's also a possibility of getting some of our props powder-coated since my dad has a friend who runs his own shop and has offered to do so for free. Yessssssss =]
-
And I get to meet you, yes?!
-
Cyrus if you wouldn't mind having a 30 something anime fan along, I'd love to meet up with you.

You are one of the few here that is actually older than me so it does not bother me at all lol. Not to mention I have tons of friends that are older than me here at home. :P

I'm a youngin friend XP
A youngin who can eat your chili (without dying and/or passing out. Although my nose did run...)!

You still turned red :P but you did better than the rest of them haha...& that is still toned down chili because Jess would kill me if she couldn't eat it lol.
-
I will start eating spicier things!
I WILL FACE THE CHILI! I WILL!
I shall be able to eat a whole bowl one of these days, Cyprus, you just wait XD
-
We will get you prepared at Sakuracon when I drag you all to WingDome...you have to eat at least one deadly wing with their 7 alarm sauce ;D I can tell you with 100% honesty that I have seen a person take one bite, got light headed, then was unable to eat dinner even though she was hungry lol. I will do the challenge again if I get someone to do it with me this time...I wanna race.
-
A deadly wing with 7 alarm sauce? :o I don't think I like th sound of that. I've never been much for super spicy food. But I'd be happy to chat with you while I have something more mild. Okay I admit when it comes to spicy food I'm a chicken (Bawk, bawk, bawk!).
-
I would make myself sick but I almost think its worth it
-
Was a rush lol...I can eat spicier food than anyone I have ever met, but I don't normally cram my food down so fast. Was fun & so worth it though & I would like another T-shirt if I can get one of you guys to do the challenge with me when we meetup :D

still in the works and much preparations will need to be done but... I am
very excited to be going to another northwest convention!

The going down part doesn't scare me too much... but having eaten a can of jalapenos on a dare years ago, I would not want to risk another occurrence of GFAS (Gastrointestinal Fire *** Syndrome). I'll come and bring a case of pepto-bismol for you guys, though. (^_~)
Just got back from Aki-con, which left me really really looking forward to Sakura-con - yes, that can be taken more than one way.
-
I'd like to go, but it's on Easter weekend and so unless I could somehow get out of family activities, and hitch a ride/bunk in a hotel with a friend, I can't..
;__;
-
I am so happy that my parents don't care about Easter and what not. I would be so upset XD
-
Okay if I agree to go to this meet-up at Sakuracon I would ask one thing. Let's all put any issues we may have aside. We're going to have a good time and be happy. So I say let's do our best to let the positive vibes flow. I certainly intend to take as many pictures as I can for my blog. And that definitely includes getting some pictures of the voice actor guests of honor.
-

As a family that shouldn't celebrate a religious holiday, I think they'll get over it XD

Lucky! D:
My family is thsuper religious and we've had to have this tradition every year to spend it together with my cousins and stuff.
And I'm gonna rage if I can't go to S-con 'cause of that. :<

Here here. I just want to get to meet others that have the same interest as me and possibly make some more long term friends. Or some awesome con buddies so I know who to go too if I'm all alone and what not. XD
-
if anybody who's going doesn't have a cosplay yet, my group would love to have you join us
reply for more info
-
I want this term to be over so I can make money to finish me costumes x.x

My giant van and I are planning festivities for people who can't go to Sakuracon. The event is invite only but not all the "seats" are filled yet. It's going to be REALLY CHEAP though, since money is the main reason a lot of us can't go.

DAYUM!!!!!!
-
I'd have to make it a two-day trip, obviously. I'm certainly not going to spend $56 on a train ride again. That was waaaaay too expensive for me. (I generally budget my total expenses for any con around $50)
-
Jesus Charles, if we get some room in our car I'll just tell you :\ I think we are full at this point though.

Well it's official, I'm all set up for Sakuracon. I've got my registration done. And I've reserved my room at the Grand Hyatt. I know it'll cost more but its close to if not attached to the convention center. And for someone with my limited vision that's a must.

The Sheraton is actually the closest to the convention center but the Hyatt isn't much further out.

Hey KogaRyu, I'd love to see you at the convention dude. If you come in cosplay I'll happily take a picture of you for my blog. What do you say?

Money... Everyone from CoaP wins the lotto! Solved! ^^;;;
Really though, If you somehow get $150, I need roomates for Sheraton and I know I could trust you.
-
If things work out as planned I'll be going as Sweeney Todd. :3 This will be my first Sakuracon.
-
I know it's only January but I'm getting SO psyched about Sakuracon!
-
So am I. This next term is going to go by so slowly x.x
-
So am I. This next term is going to go by so slowly x.x
I hope it does!
I have so many things to finish, so much to get ready, and not NEARLY enough time O_O
I can go to Sakura-con only if I have at least B's in more than half of my classes this semester.
Then if I have 0 missing work when it rolls around, I get to go!
-takes deep breath-
Wish me luck balancing cosplay with school!
-
same deal-E-O.... uber excited for con, but new term just started, work, work, work, gotta get cosplay started, expect headaches TA-ing Micro lab... then BAM! Sakuracon time~ W00t! :D
-
I just reserved my room and got my ticket. Badge name is ROBO-GHANDI.
-
I've had my room reserved and my ticket for a long time now. ^^: but... If I can't find 3 people to pay $150 for 4 nights at the Sheraton then I can't go... ;-; and do to issues I have to meet them at least 2 times before the con and I need the money the second time we meet. makes it hard to find a roommate. but they save $50 with me, it would be $200 each person for four nights for 4 people, but I am paying $350 so the others only have to pay $150. Also, I always give goody bags to my roommates when I have the room in my name. So pluses... yet still hard as hell to find roommates.
-
I'm known as (surprise, surprise.) Animeman73

Started getting materials to work on my Sakuracon cosplays yesterday and I have my three cosplays totally planned out. Should have the hotel booked tomorrow so I'm pretty stoked! =]

REMEMBER TO GET YOUR ROOM NEXT TO MINE
I am.... My friend is booking the room tommorrow during her lunch break, she tried to do it today but she wrote down the hotel number wrong. XD
This con is gonna ROCCCCKKKKKKK!
Edit: Got the room.... BRO TIME TO THE MAXXXXXX
-
All my stuff is set. Time to sit back and wait.
-
I pre-reged the day that it was possible. Also have had a room reseverd for a while... but it looks like everyone is staying at the Sheraton... I'm booked with the Roosevelt.
Btw, badge name: Sutie

I don't know why any of you would go to this terrible convention =P
-
Having never been there myself I will reserve judgement until i get there. And I also I don't believe in talking smack about other conventions. And as I said I'm registered at the Grand Hyatt myself.

psssst, I'm on the exec board for Sakura. I'm certainly not going to seriously dis my own con. =P

Sorry I, Jon didn't realize you were joking, my bad! Friends? :D

Oh yeah, all the amazing cosplays and wicked panels just totally ruin the whole thing. =P

BEST BROS 4 LIFE!

I, Jon you're a gentleman and a scholar. And I thank you.

Shameless con promotion:
Sakura-Con is still looking for panels! If you have an idea that has been successful at Kumori, bring it up to Sakura-Con!
Our panels form is located at: http://www.sakuracon.org/programming/panel_form.php

Hey Bressler, should I staff for Sakura or not? And if so, what should I do?
-
the cow wishes he could staff saku con... or at least insure bressler doesn't end up in a wheelchair again. unfortunately the cow is inexperienced much like the preverbial cheese.
-
I pre-reg'd yesterday. Got a room at the Red Lion and working on getting some money to finish Shippuden Temari and pay the hotel. XD Expensive, expensive. Thank goodness for roomies.
-
I can't wait till I get my tax return. That will probably be my hotel money there XD
-
Missed the meeting today :( couldnt make it up. Next meeting for sure. Possibly signing up for staff. What will I do? No freaking clue...
-
So we have a skit for s-con completely written out. We just need to record it and practice it a bit then we'll be good to go. Room is a go, ride is being discussed, and cosplays are being worked on. The only thing that really need's to be done at this point is registration.
-
As with Kumoricon 08' and 09' I'll be taking pictures of all the great voice talent and all you great cosplayers for my blog scififantasyanimeman over on Wordpress.com, the exclusive home of all my con pics.
-
Ok I spent a few stressful hours last night working out all the details for the hotel and what not and I also found out today that the method the convention is using (booking rooms through a different site then booking them at the hotel) means that at the moment the rooms aren't booked (well they are but the hotels have no record at the moment) until a week or so before the con. I'm not too sure if I like this new system or not.
Also I was kinda curious if what our people are paying is about average. Sadly for the moment we are thinking about parking in the hotel which is raising the cost quite a bit seeing how we will have two cars x.x But each person will be paying about 135, that includes parking and gas.
I guess the question comes down to, does anyone know where cheap parking is that isn't 39 a night x.x
-
Parking in Seattle is always kinda crappy...I always just used the valet at whatever hotel I stay at for con. There are some parking garages a couple blocks from the Sheraton though...I can't for the life of me remember what street they are on but I know that they are cheaper. I spend a lot of time in Seattle because I have friends & family up there...but when I visit I usually just find a spot to park on capitol hill & just bus or walk everywhere lol.
-
A couple years ago when I stayed at the Sheraton I parked in their designated parking spaces, but did not use the valet. That put me at about $24 or so a day, which is average for parking in a garage all day. The parking garage is located right across the street from the hotel. Plus if you car pool get all of the passengers to spilt the cost.
-
I don't know if they have anything that isn't valet....at least I haven't seen anything. Yeah the cost really isn't too bad....its about 30 per person.
-
i was really lucky the year i went, i rode up with a friend and was staff for publicity =cheap and up close to the guests i waned to see
-
We're at a hotel about 5 blocks (?) away.. and we're just gonna leave our car @ that hotel and walk to the convention. THAT's gonna be an adventure all on it's own!
-
Parking was 25 at the hotel I stayed at last year. They are upping it to 30 this year. That's at the Roosevelt. I've had no problems with them and they were easy to handel while booking this year's.
-
We're at a hotel about 5 blocks (?) away.. and we're just gonna leave our car @ that hotel and walk to the convention. THAT's gonna be an adventure all on it's own!
Nah. Seattle is real easy to navigate.

I agree, you shouldn't have any issues...you will learn how to get everywhere you want in downtown Seattle in a very short time^^
-
I was actually referring to walking around in cosplay as the adventure...not so much getting lost... haha :P I've been to Seattle a few times, so I know generally where things are.
-
I can't wait...I love that city so much lol. A lot of my favorite places to eat, drink, & generally just hang out, are all there...not to mention 2 of my best friends for years both moved up there so I get to see them. It's a non-stop adventure for me up there^^
-
My biggest issue with Sakuracon (and it's not even an issue with the con) is the lack of 24-hour (in particular, 3am) food options. Last year I got out of a dance tired, hungry, and sore and couldn't do anything about any of those three problems until staff preservation opened three hours later. The lack of night life really kills Seattle for me. My hours of operation are 3pm to 6am, so it's not really my kind of city, but other than that it's alright.

Last year we had Pizza delivered to our room every night at about 2:30 3:00 AM. There are a number of pizza places open till 3:00am on the weekends.
-
My only issue with going would be getting time off from work and school..
...oh yea, and money.. XD
-
Dick's Burger is open late...also there is an awsome pizza joint up on capitol hill that I can't remember the name of, but they are awsome & open late.

Cyprus, looking forward to seeing you at the con and I'm currenntly working on getting the days off from work I need. Fortunately since I'm one of my workp[lace's more reliable employees I can get what I need.

If you head up Pike to about a block beyond the Homewood Suites, the McMenamins Six Arms is open until 2am. If you trek all the way to Broadway and go north on it half a block, Pita Pit is open until 3am. I know, a bit of a walk, but it's something.
-
PROTIP: Stock your hotel room (and/or backpack) with food items too. Helps in a pinch.
-
Can't wait for the con, but I just thought I'd post in here that I'll be there, and most likely be eating food found in my hotel room.
-
I second bringing food with you to keep in your hotel room! My friends and I do that for cons, and it's very helpful and saves money. :3
Then again our room for S-con is about 5 blocks away sooooo.. not sure how helpful that's gonna be. XD

When I travel anywhere...especially Seattle...I bring plenty of money so that I can eat at all the awsome places. Nothing says vacation like good food everyday...& Seattle certainly has plenty of that to offer.

Good to hear it, will be fun to meet more forum peeps.

I realized after posting, the Six Arms might be 21+ only in the evening. I vaguely recall there is a sign on the door to that effect. So be sure to check that before heading there at night.
Also, I believe Dragonfish is open until 2am each night now, about a block from the convention center. They have cheap items during happy hour (may not be filling enough).
-
Thanks for the information guys it shall be taken to note.

I'm almost 100% certain that the Six Arms is 21+ after hours...some of my favorite micro-brews are from McMenamins breweries, so I go there with friends frequently & I do recall being carded each time.
-
Wow, Hilton (Sakura-con) is sold out and it's not even Feb. yet! Da dum, da dum dum~~
-
I have been reserved since last year at the Paramount so I'm good :)
-
^ wow, u were beyond proactive :) *thumbs up!
-
That's Chris for ya~
I still barely know if I can go.
If the majority of my grades or B's or higher than I get to go.
If they aren't, well, see y'all at Kumoricon
-
Anyone planning on going to the meeting for this on the 21st of next month?
I'm looking for a ride share.
PM or email me as i dont get a comp often and emails get to me faster.
-
I think I actually might try to find a way to go this year, seeing as it's looking like Kumoricon isn't a possibility this year. : /
-
Sometime soon I am going to post some details for a small meetup in Seattle during Sakuracon weekend for anyone that wants to go to the WingDome. Awsome food there! Would need people to be comfortable on the bus & have a few bucks extra to ride. I wouldn't recommend cosplay eating wings personally lol...they tend to get messy. Would be cool if there were some super spicy food eaters that are going so they can do the 7 alarm challenge!
-
Yay! Bought my pass, bought my wig, looking for more hotel roommates, sewing, and getting super stoked. Only like a little more than a month away!
-
Because I can't manage to find what time the Opening Ceremonies are.
When are they?
-
katie we will find out when we get up there... do you really need to know now?
-
My dad won't let me go unless I know.
If I can't go, neither can Charly (as I'm her ride) and then I would feel like a butt head.
So, yes, I need to know now.
-
okay I can help with that
-
Opening is on friday that is all I got so far lol
-
Okay, nvm.
-
Why not post in the Sak thread in the 'other conventions' section? The Sak Prog Director posts there from time to time and he'd likely know.
-
I'm getting psyched with Sakuracon around the corner.
-
Thanks~
I'll do that.
-
It is usually around 10 or 11am from what I remember
-
I'm getting psyched with Sakuracon around the corner.
Emotion builds as I count the days. Before, wishing it would get closer and sooner. And now, letting it take its time to arrive or delay one more day.
I'm being pulled between the convention and another element, both of which are roughly the same price.
-

I've merged the threads.
-
Because I can't manage to find what time the Opening Ceremonies are.
When are they?
They are still finishing the schedule. They'll post it on the web soon. They always post it a couple weeks (roughly) before the con, so there will be time to plan.
-
SAKURACONNN GIKKIMAAAUS.
There a commercial for '10 yet? :3
-
There a commercial for '10 yet? :3
Yes. They showed it at the February meeting.
-
quick question anyone know if there are a lot of jack sparrow fangirls at sakuracon? I have never been to that convention.... ohhh and if so how should I prepare?
-
There are jack Sparrow fangirls lurking everywhere >.e *remembers the day w/ the drapist*
Okay!
1) Hailey should go, m'hm
2) It's too close ;.;
-
ohhh god not the drapist ahhh the horror
-
I'm probably not going to cosplay. I will however be taking pictures of the voice actors and the cosplayers for my blog. All upon asking said individuals permission of course. I pride myself on courtesy in that regard.
-
Y_Y I Won't make it Sakuraconnn but i wanna go so bad!
IM SO BROKE -_- AND the Mascottt is a BOY!
-
Because I can't manage to find what time the Opening Ceremonies are.
When are they?
http://www.sakuracon.org/programming/schedule.php
Opening Ceremonies will be 10:00am-10:30am again this year...was posted yesterday on the Sakura-Con forums.
I am excited to go up to that wonderful city again :D For any of you wanting to eat some hot wings with a bunch of us Central Oregon HDC peoples, looks like we are having lunch at WingDome on Friday. We will probably meet around noon or earlier to take the #5 bus there. Will be back in time for the Trigun Movie Premiere which is at 5pm for sure since I want to make it to the Anime Hunter's Panel as well. You are more than welcome to join, I suggest casual wear & not cosplay since food from a wing place is messy.
-
Dually noted my friend. I hadn't planned on wearing any cosplay anyway. I'm saving that for Kumoricon. So you're meeting Friday eh? Question where are you going to be meeting before you go to the Wingdome? I could meet up with you and the HDC there. By the way do you have an e-mail address so i can send you a picture of myself so you'll know who to look for? Also could i get a picture of you so I'll know who to look for? PM me as soon as you can Cyprus.
-
I'm thinking early lunch, probably right after closing ceremonies so that I can be back in time for the Anime Hunters panel. I am not at home so I don't have any pictures...I can say for sure that I will be wearing my black straight jacket. I'll get you some more info as soon as I can. We will probably meet in the lobby area of the convention center & then walk to the bus together, unless someone that wants to go already knows where to go & just wants to meet there. I will need to check the bus schedule for the #5 also...I will look into that tonight.
-
I can not wait. I really want this last two weeks of school to go by fast so I can get to my spring break and finish up everything I need to get done. I need to print out business cards for the con. Anyone want a photo shoot?
-
Agreed with the first statement.
No school = Cosplay week~
I'm excited to finish everything and feel productive~
-
I already printed out a con schedule & have looked through it with highlighters of different colors ;D Checking out the different bus schedules as well for when I want to drift away from con during wait times :P Just 3 weeks of work to suffer through >.<
-
*nods* 2 weeks on school ('cause one of those weeks is spring break) :D
ON A DIFFERENT NOTE:
Someone has to be with me at all times, or I swear I'll drown in people.
-
Sweet, so I am or sure going! Am pre-reg'd and everything. ;D The Depp Squad will be taking over Sakuracon!
For pre-reg day I'll be Mort Rainey from Secret Window, and the rest of the con I'll be Sweeney Todd. My other two friends are going as Edward Scissorhands and the Mad Hatter. We're gonna be mauled.. >>
-
.
-
Getting SOOO close.
-
:-\ I just really hope that I can make it this year!! But due to me having lack of group participents and low amount of money, I'll probably wouldn't be able to go......again. :(
-
2-1/2 weeks...WOOT! So close yet so far away...I wanna go now!
-
Gah...
I am not going to be able to get a Nick wig in time, so I might have to awkwardly use my hair -_-;;
-
Don't feel bad Rebel...I don't think any of my cosplays will be ready in time. MAYBE Genesis if we have a chance to fix the pants.
-
But I have photo shoots ;o;
-
WOOT! My friend from Cali just texted me saying that he can go! Now I am even more excited...haven't seen him in over 4 years!!!
-
That's so awesome Chris!!!!
Okay, Charly (Cassiopeia) and I have been F***ed over by our roomies, so if anyone has room in their hotel room, please take us in?
I really don't want to miss Sakura-con, as I've been working my butt off, and already spent the money to go.
Please please please?
I don't want to sound whiny or anything, I'm just really worried we wont get to go if we don't have a room...
-
Wait...
Okay, Charly (Cassiopeia) and I have been F***ed over by our roomies, so if anyone has room in their hotel room, please take us in?
What?
-
She called me and said they didn't have room for us.
I'm not sure if it was a mistake, but I sure as hell want a back up plan if it's really happening.
(I'm actually pissed as all crap now)
-
Wow...someone needs to help Soundy & Charly out here please. I will feel bad if I don't offer space in my room & I already have a stuffed room...anyone? Please? Gotta have HDC peeps up there!
-
Cyprus if you can see the avatar pictures the avatar in my picture that's the real me.
Could you remind me where the meet-up for the meet-up will take place? And also anyway i could get a picture of you?
-

Once again you caught me at work...I am planning to meet people at the convention entrance area right after opening ceremonies & go to the bus from there. As for the picture...use the link for my e-mail or send me a PM somewhere around 1pm today & I should be around my home computer working. I have a bad habit of forgetting things so that would force me to get right on it...that will also remind me to start the thread for the meetup...it's mostly going to be HDC peeps there but I would be more than happy to see others from the forums there.
-
@Sound: I may actually be able help you and Cassi... I won't know until I've decided on a hotel yet; still looking for the cheapest deals. So, I'll let you know the details once I settle on one hotel, ok?
Nm~ I already sent a pm for that. =w=
-
Ok, I posted up the info for lunch at the WingDome...hope to see some of you there & maybe a couple spicy food eaters that will take the 7 Deadly Wing challenge!
Meet-up Info Here! (http://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?topic=12634.msg566721#msg566721)

I know...I am super excited!! Even though I had to spend an extra $210 to get the right boots because they were screwed up...I sure hope it looks good once I put it all together!!!
-
I will GLOMP YOU.
Text me in the morning so I can FIND you and glomp you, you pillow ninja (slept with one eye open!)
-
You will have to save your glomping until after the WingDome lunch since I won't be in cosplay until then...don't think I am going to do much more than try things on the day before that.
I can see that you were able to avoid the blanket ninja's assassins...good work!
-
Okay =w=
-
I am weathering all my stuff today i even threw some paprika into my shirt pits lol
and i am saving the head dress for kumoricon 2010 :D

-
Sweet~
-
I'll be pretty easy to recognize as I won't be wearing any costume however I WILL be carrying my digital camera around and taking pictures.
-
If you see Simon from Gurren Lagann (younger) then just yell: 'SOUNDY' and if I don't turn around, it probably isn't me xD
-
If you see captain Jack Sparrow then just yell: 'TOMMY' and if I don't turn around, I am probably just ignoring you xD
-
I can't tell your an "if you see"...it's top secret.
-
I'll just find you, then glomp you, then dance about saying I'd glomped the *******
(SHHHH IT'S A SECRET)
-
I'm ready now!! I don't wanna work 4 more days...NOW!! I am getting texts & e-mails from friends up there planning out when to meet up...it's making me anxious!!
-
:3
Patience, Chris, Patience
-
Soundy, Cyprus I look forward eagerly to seeing you and anyone else who's coming to the meet-up.
-
There will be a small army of us there...I will have 6 people in my room that are all going, 2 friends that live in Seattle that might go, & almost all of the HDC members...will be quite a few of us at the lunch. Hopefully some more random forum peeps choose to show up as well but it will be fun either way. I still need a brave soul that will tackle the 7 Deadly Wing Challenge!
-
-Shivers- Okay Chris, but if you don't mind I'll order something mild. Okay again i admit I'm chicken bawk, bawk, bawk!
-
I don't eat meat, so I get to stare awkwardly at you guys while eating celery :x
That's how cool I am.
Although Chris threatens to shove a hot wing down my throat if I don't eat it willingly xP
-

If you find Edward Scissorhands and the Mad Hatter, then chances are you'll find me too. :B
-
1 week from today & the adventure begins!! I am super excited...several friends that I haven't seen in ages are going to be meeting us up there, some even flying. This is going to be the best con experience for me yet...I can't wait!
I hope that some of you from the forums here come & at least say hi to us before we take off for the WingDome Lunch (http://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?topic=12634.0). Would be awsome if you went with us, but just meeting & saying hi is fine too. :D
-
I'll be there, as either Dr. House or a game show host. Oh yeah, and Director of Prague. I forget I do work for the con. Sometimes.
-
I'm going~ I'll be Cirno, Soul, Shion, and Gangsta Miku
-
Looking forward to seeing you Cyprus and everyione. i still have a few minor details but I'll have them handled before i take my trip Seattle.
This is going to be SOOO much fun.
-
Woot!! Not even a week now until con...I should be finishing up the pants on my second cosplay this weekend.
-
W00T!
Sooooo clooooooseeee
-
I AM SOO EXCITED FOR THIS!!
-
Indeed my first out of state convention ever. Hey Koga, Soundy, Cyprus looking forward to seeing all of you there. Hopefully at the meet-up. I'm definitely going to snap a lot of pictures for my blog, including as many voice actors as I can fit in.
-
So much to do, so little time O_o
-
Koga:
I'mma glomp you *o*
(I love your sokka hair!)
-
Oh mah gawwwd!
If you peeps wanna know what I look like I'll be in Mikan (Air Gear), Naoto (DOGS), Meiko (VOCALOID; maybe magnet and default, not sure), Ryoko or Kyonko...~ (TMoHS) and maybe a Snorlax Gijinka but I probably won't have time to make that what with school *3*
-
I need to decide what costumes I'm taking and when I am going to wear them..grah <.<
Firo, Greed, Isshin, Snowtrooper, pirate, ravenclaw student, man. I dislike not having a new costume for this con <.<
-
Only four days left (I am counting Thursday as part of con because I am hanging out with friends all day :P )
-
Ladies and Gents including today there are four days before i hit the road for Sakuracon.
-
I need to get home and make my costume.... -_- oi, oi, oi!
-
@ Trumby, I'm still not for sure on what costumes I want to bring either D:
Also, I hope my group wants to leave on Thursday! I know I do~
-
@ Trumby:
Fffffiiiiirrrrrooooo
-
Is anybody leaving Portland to head to Sakuracon that has an extra seat available? I am pre-registered and everything, but haven't got a way up there yet! Help! haha
-
@ Trumby:
Fffffiiiiirrrrrooooo
Oh I am taking him for the gathering. I mean out of the others :P
It'll probably be Firo, Greed, Snowtrooper, and Isshin <.<
-
Bag-stuffing was this past weekend and I AM STOKED (to use an outdated term) for Sakura Con 2010 ^_^!
-
Only 3 more days of work to suffer through & I hit the road! I am also counting Thursday as a con day since I will be up there hanging out with friends...long drive ahead of me too >.> I am so ready to go!
-
Not quite ready >.e
SIMON SHALL BE DONE IN TIME!
-
I still have many errands to run but I'll be raedy/
-
:'( My costumes won't be done in time, so I will be wearing partially done costumes. It makes me so sad, but procrastination finally killed me this time. Hopefully I don't get any strange looks from people because it's not a complete outfit to the character. Now I'm really nervous, not excited. :'( Plus lots of running around to do, will I be ready in time? I guess I will just have to be.
-
So the weather over the mountain is horrible right now...& they are putting traction tire & chain restrictions for travelers. Looks like that is gonna be another $600 out of my pocket to throw some winter tires on my car :(
**EDIT: Called Les Schwabs for pricing...**
-
Day after tomorrow. The weather that I saw on my confirmation for my hotel said that it was going to be sunny Thursday, raining Friday and showers Saturday and Sunday.
-
Day after tomorrow. The weather that I saw on my confirmation for my hotel said that it was going to be sunny Thursday, raining Friday and showers Saturday and Sunday.
I live in Central Oregon though...so there is a mountain covered in snow blocking my way lol. Think I am going to make my drive 7.5 hrs & head east a bit so I can come up to I-84 through Biggs...I don't want to spend that much on tires.
-
Ewww that doesn't sound fun.
-
I'm not too psyched about it either ;.;
I hate riding in the snow, it freaks me out Dx
-
One of the advantages of living in the Portland area is between Seattle and Portland it's a 4 hour drive and I have the advantage of having a retired professional bus driver in my stepfather to drive me up there. Being legally blind it's a great way to get to Seattle. And Chris my good fellow I hope you can still make it my friend. I WILL be at the meet-up i can assure you.
-
Yeah that is one nice thing about Portland. Also we are going to be stopping at mrs Beasley's on the way up (I think it is exit 59 or so). And I will have stuff written on my car XD So keep an eye out for a blue acura rsx with stuff written on the windows :D
-
*will keep eye out for said car :D*
-
Well I am a good driver & great at navigating so I will be there no matter what. What sucks is that the 5.5-6hr drive it usually takes me to get to Seattle is going to be about 7-7.5hrs now. That will take me around the snow storm with only a little ice to deal with...just adds about 1.5 hrs to my trip. There is nothing that can keep me from going though, so no worries there :D
-
*will keep eye out for said car :D*
What time are you guys going to go up there?
-
If by us you mean Charly and I, we wont be up there until around 10:00 or 11:00, so I'm guessing we wont see you until morning xD
(We're leaving straight out of school)
-
Thats too bad. Oh well I'll see you at the con :P
-

-
I have to pick up a friend from Seattle Airport around 5 & I want to be checked in & maybe get my badge before that. So chances are I am leaving here around 7-8am, maybe earlier than that depending weather & what-not.
-
Since more than likely I'll check in after 3 p.m. it'll be a while before I leave. Like I said i have aretired professional driver to take me to and fro.
-
I will be arriving at the Seattle Sheraton at around lunch time (12:00). It's only a 20min drive lol. One of the things I always look forward to is chillin out with friends on Pre-Reg Day. Probably end up doing a number of things, hit up the international district, pre-reg line, Gameworks, Sheraton pool.
Gameworks on Thursday nights is $11 unlimited play.

Ya, gameworks is awsome...have a lot of fun there whenever I head up to Seattle to chill with friends.
-
God I only have about 6 more hours in Corvallis then I drive back to Portland to finish packing and pick up my friends stuff :3
-
It's so close!
Gah, I so wish I could chill on pre-reg ;.; But school is an important thing :D
@ Koga
I am going to have to find you and hug the crap out of you~
I love your hair with a soul enveloping passion *3*
-
One last day of work to suffer through...then it's home to finish packing stuff! On the road tomorrow...hope the weather isn't too horrible. I'm super excited...it's so close!!

Only two more classes. And I am actually looking forward to one class. I enjoy anthropology. We are learning about female mutilation :3 So that class may pass quickly. I head to Portland in 4 hours : DDDDD
-
I still have 6-6.5hrs left here at work >.< At least we are busy today so the time is going by fast. Have to go pick up my G/F's dress after work...she had it altered for a cosplay.
-
I've been a busy person making my final preperations for my trip to Sakuracon. The good news is I've got about everything ready. And I check into the Grand Hyatt tomorrow. I can't wait.
-
We leave after school tomorrow :D
(I'm really tempted to get in to Simon, and take pictures of me wearing our Jack Sparrow's hat with the title of "Captain... Simon?" because Tommy left his hat here :D
-
I'm packed up and ready to go. All I need to do tomorrow morning is wake up and go :D

-
sad it's over... >_< Onward to K-con! :D
-
Wow!
What an exciting convention! It was so nice to see all the fun faces I recognized from staff
events and from the panels and Kumoricon! It was so much fun to play with the big kids in
Seattle!
For me and my group (or was I in THEIR group? :) ) it was a total blast and everything ran so
smoothly! I'm really proud of the Reg Team, Programming, Logistics, Dealers Hall/Artists Alley,
Gaming and basically everyone at ANCEA. They really put on a great show and gave me excellent
insight!
Now lets all let Stark and the team get a few good nights rest...
*tucks them into bed* nigh night!

I'd like to take this oppurtunity to thank Cyprus, those from Central Oregon, and the Portland area for letting me be a part of the Wing Dome. It was real fun, and I hope to see all of you at Kumoricon.

We were at the back of that group but weren't in cosplay on Sunday...only Friday & Saturday :( I was wearing a black hoodie & had a Trigun bag on my shoulder.
-
@ Tofu:
I should just come up thar and chill with you soon :3
-
@cyprus
I remember seeing that bag pass by me and me thinking I wanted one. Lol
@sarge
I'll smuggle you into my room. >:3
-
@ Tofu
DO IT
-
Managed to make it to the con despite the medical mishap; it was pretty fun. I just realized that the only time I went outside the convention center was to get food or to go back to the hotel. Man, Seattle, your weather is crappy, and this is coming from an Oregonian; I'm supposed to be accustomed to rain.
I wore Twilight Princess Link on Saturday and Apollo Justice on the other two days. Had a Trucy with me (my sister). My cosplay group, Bearers of the Triforce, won a Judge's Choice award in the cosplay contest -- though really, Seifer-sama is the one who earned that with her Ganondorf and Princess Zelda creations.
For those of you who didn't go to the cosplay contest, I was the Link with the 3-heart life meter. :)

>.< You should have poked me & asked me where I got it :D Oh well, maybe at Kumoricon!

did anyone see me there? or get pictures cause I can't find any of me or my friend...
On Saturday, we were Soul and Maka until afternoonish, then we changed into Shion/Mion from Higurashi. Then like 8ish we changed into gangsta Miku and Teto and hung around till like 11.
On Sunday, we were Cirno and Nitori from Touhou. That was for only like 2 hours in the morning. Then we changed back into gangsta Miku and Teto. This time, I had a big gun slung on my shoulder.
I saw you Tofu, you were at the same hotel as us xD

That was pretty freaking spectacular. I really really wanted to see your guy's gangster Vocaloids as well. :<
@cyprus
I normally don't ask about those types of things. And I was too wrapped into the raffle. *3*
-
@tofu: I haven't found a good pic of both of us yet D: but I will post it as soon as I do!

Animeman73:
Hey, great; don't forget to post it in this year's photo thread, too. :)
Danayoki:
Oh really? Well, I guess it WAS a little rainier and windier than usual. But I didn't think it looked like a storm. Wonder whether I missed the worst of it while inside.
The lack of sunshine did suck. No outdoor photo ops that I can remember.
-
I am still trying to find more pictures that were taken of my G/F & I...she was Misa Amane from Death Note & I was Repoman from Repo! The Genetic Opera. Somewhere out there are a couple pictures of me & Sweeney Todd(Shadow from the forums) battling & I can't find them anywhere ;;
-
Okay Radiem, a there's Sakuracon photo thread where? Can you give me a link?
-
I went with my BF. Sakura con is something of an aniversery (or however the heck you spell it) for us. We met at Sakura con '07 as Seshoumaru (Inuyasha) and pixie-Paine (Kingdom Hearts 2) and then fell in love at Sakura con '08 as Kuno (Ranma 1/2) and robor GIR (Invader Zim). I was pretty amazed that he was crushing on me even while I was wearing full matalic-silver face paint and giant goggles ^^
anyway this year we didn't have the time/money to make any of the couple cosplays we've been planing so we dusted off out old stand-bys: Kuno and Goth Sailor Saturn. We both brought our PSPs and played Dissidia a bunch.
-
^ That's so cute :D
-
I have to agree with Katie
-
Okay Radien, a there's Sakuracon photo thread where? Can you give me a link?
My apologies; I made a faulty assumption. There was a photo thread for Sakura Con last year, but it looks like no one created one this year. You can create one if you want, but simply posting your link in this thread is enough for anyone who is looking for Sakura Con threads on this forum. Basically, don't worry about it; you're fine. Thanks for sharing your photos.

This year was my third year going to sakuracon and I was quite disappointed. I had fun hanging out with some friends but I also had some personal issues going on that kinda ruined it. Also some of the staff were jerks.
Oh yeah, and there was this creepy old guy walking around touching girls legs ~shudders~
-
You know all of a sudden I think I may go back again next year. And Radien it's all good my friend. It's all good.

I wouldn't let one bad experience ruin something that you have always had fun at in the past. I love the chance to get away from home & spend time meeting new people & seeing great cosplays. Personally, I plan to be there next year for sure since I am getting more into photography & will be starting to do Cosplay photo shoots.
You know all of a sudden I think I may go back again next year. And Radien it's all good my friend. It's all good.
I hope that you do decide to go again...you are welcome to join us again for another lunch/adventure with the HDC peeps.
-
Next time, I'll arrange my photo shoots better xD
AND NO CRAZY HOT HOT WINGS >O (but if Amy is going next year, she has to eat one *laughs*)
-
Yes, all newcomers have to have a bite of the 7 alarm wings so they understand that Kyle & I are true heroes :P

That guy was a beast! I was bawling my eyes out after a bite, as was Pat. Griff got all red eyed before he took a bite, and Erin practically died xD
I want to contact Kyle again... I'll PM Griff about talking to him again xD
-
I have his cell #, we will definately see him again. We chat once in a while...he is the only person I know other than me that has done that challenge.
-
Depending on how my group of con-virgins do at Kumoricon, I might consider taking them to Sakura con next year.
Hearing about everyone's thoughts on Sakura vs Kumoricon really made me want to go to a bigger con.
But we'll see. In any case, this thread was as much help for me as the person who started it ^_^ XD
-
I'll definitely be going back and to all con goer if you try the 7 alarm sauce i can tell you having tried some myself HOLY COW!!!! The stuff ain't for sissies.
-
I hope to see even more people go with us next year...we really do have a lot of fun.
