FFVII DoC
« on: May 12, 2009, 11:22:28 pm »

I'm cosplaying as Shelke the Transparent [almost typed the Immaculate but thats Weiss -drools-] and I need some help. I can't find any patterns for her costume and I'm not the best sewing person on the planet. I have some ideas for the weapons [lighsabers], the armour [foam] and the neon blue [lights?]. I would love some help with her if someone can help me, or at least point me in the right direction for someone who *can* help it'd be much appreciated.

I've decided to use el wire for the lights. I found a site that has them for cheap and they are already hooked up to the batterie pack. The only problem now is buying the wire and the fabric and light sabers [if there's a better source for her weapons let me know]

I'll link you up to some places that can help you later when I have more time, but I just want to say now that I can't wait to see your costume! And I wish you had been Shelke at Kumoricon last year, lol. I cosplayed as Azul and there were no other DoC cosplayers at all....but hopefully I'll get it back to functioning in the near future.

Anyway, good luck and I'll post some links later.

So I have two ideas for the lighting, I could use EL wire or the long glow sticks.

Problems: Glowsticks don't last long and fade quickley. El Wires I'd have to soulder and I don't know how. Plus with the glowsticks it runs the risk of breaking and leaking inside the housing thus destroying the costume. I read that El wires are flexable and are weather proof. I'm leaning more towards EL Wires, but I don't know what the costs are..

eve and i used reflective tape on our tsviet costumes (well, i started to on what i got done, lol) it seemed to work really well. the light would hit it at the right angle and it looked like it was glowing, and in photos of eve it always shined in the flash of the camera. i'll see if i can find the link to where we got it, or maybe eve has it. we thought about the wires, but finding places for the battery packs and linking up all the wiring seemed too labor intensive, and the tape looked great and was much easier ^.^

Yes, I used Reflective Tape which is infinitely more useful than wire. It is just tape, which sticks to most surfaces, and shines bright like glowing when in camera flashes or lights. I got it here: http://reflectivelyyours.com/generic30.html. You can get it in any color, but it was the blue that we used for the Tsviet color. ^_^ Good luck!

Thanks Eve and Kahlan.

I found a site that has the wire already set up. I thought about putting the batterie pak in the collar of her suit

the wire might work better for you because most of hers is on one large piece, though you'd have to get separate wire/battery packs for each glove, and probably the shoes, in which case the tape might be an easier way to go

Small rods wouldn't be too hard to make, pvc pipe could work, just cut it down to size. Whatever you do, though, good luck!

Just for fun? Lightsabers are a pretty different shape and model than Shelke's weapons.

That's true but I don't want to have to make her weapons from scratch, as it is, I'm already gunna kill my self over this [not literally of course] in three months ;o;

I'm postponing Shelke for this year and just do her next year. I want to ork extra hard on her so that she's the best cosplay I've made. I'm swaping Shelke out for HAP's Japan.

I'm telling you, though, between EL Wire and Reflective tape, the tape is gonna be the easier route. Shelke has a ton of strips of varying lengths and sizes. Tape can be cut, but wire has to be soldered and rewired for every bit...it just sounds like you're getting into something unnecessarily troublesome.

But, just a suggestion.

I would do tape to start off with. The after I wore it once and had more time then I would add the wiring in.

That sounds like a better plan. I just wanted to be sure to share advice from my experience (of already being down the tape/wire road, heh), and it can be a hard thing to jump right into.
