So true...I always keep my eye out for those exceptionally well done cosplays even if there are 20 of the same one. The ones that have the most detail & accuracy are the ones that force me to grab my camera & ask for hugs. This year was my first one that I actually had a completed cosplay for & it was a blast. I was the only Repoman at con so I got so many pictures taken of me & tons of hugs...it was awsome. I also spent a ton of time trying to put together the costume as accurately as possible...so I will stick with my original post on this one, cosplay for fun but try your hardest to capture as much detail as possible.

I believe that even if your cosplay isn't something many people recognize if you are having fun people will want your picture. What I think is even nicer than solo pics is getting to take pics with the cosplayer!

Oh ya...I loved getting pictures with other people. Was a lot of fun when people would hand their camera to a friend & ask if they could get a picture with me. I also enjoy doing the same when I see a cosplay that I really love. :D

If you cosplay a character you love your positive energy will show through, and you will be more inspired to put effort into it. I've seen a lot of great cosplays, and many of them were from series I have never read, sometimes never heard of. If anything, it makes me want to read the series that inspired someone that much. Actually, I don't read much manga, so I recognise very few characters. It's ultimately the quality of the cosplay itself that attracts me, both the costume and the cosplayer's portrayal of the character.
Done: Blue Spirit (A:tLA), Sollux Captor (HS)
will do: Yukio (AnE), Robin (YJ), genderbent Nilus (MAOH), Dave and Signless (Homestuck); other things I'm forgetting

when i first started cosplaying i did it to have fun as a charactor i loved. we went and took random pictures, most of which were for fun and not to post anywhere.

then somewhere along the way we started geting uber critial with our cosplay and work, wanted photo shoots to be more professonal and it started... to lose its fun D:

oh noe! then one day we went "ok you know what? we worked hard on these cosplays right? who cares! lets just get together and have fun and take photos every once in a while!

then cosplaying became all about being fun and protraying our fave chars as best we could.

so in a nutshell: cosplay for me is about fun but its always nice for someone to like your protayal enough to get photos taken. and you should always cosplay a char you like! the more you like them the more your likely to act like them xD

I learned something very important is Sakura Con...fame is fun. I love it when people want to take my picture. This S-con I was never asked and that made me really sad. So, yeah, rethinking future cosplays. It's not like I'm going to cosplay from something that is over-cosplayed, but at least something that is epic or one that people would know a little better.

I know what you mean. Its fun posing for cameras and seeing people happy when they see you as a character they like. X3
I remember at my first con I cosplayed a kinda obscure character and I was the only one there but when people recognized me they got really happy and excited, and I like seeing people happy. It makes me feel warm inside  :3

I think I kinda cosplay for both fame and fun. Mostly fun though. Because I dont think I could stand cosplaying a character that I dont know. and If I was around so many cosplays and I wasnt in one I would feel left out of the fun and think "Why didnt I cosplay? Why didnt I cosplay? It looks like so much fun D':"

My Vexen cosplay this year is actually going to have a shield! I am so happy! It's going through the wringer for sure, but I hope I get it! I am so happy.
