This is the cosplay thread.  Are you planning on cosplaying one of the characters?  I love the movie and would love to see a little girl being Hit Girl, but if you're not planning a cosplay or know someone who is it's generally not very productive to make threads like this.

Also, since Kick-Ass is the name, and you're not...just swearing at someone, I don't think you need to censor it.

(Even if this thread was just miscategorized by accident, PLEASE add content to the first post.  People don't often feel inclined to post anything real if it's just "Yup.  Thread title." and then if anyone else makes a new thread with real content, people will say OMG USE SEARCH FEATURE, TOPIC ALREADY EXISTS, and then there's no content so people don't feel obligated to post... Just, really.  One or two sentences shouldn't be that hard.  You never start a discussion in real life with "Okay, here's a vague topic idea, get to it" and expect legitimate results and it's the same online.)

Well DEEDADEE I made this thread for cosplay. Otherwise I wouldnt have made it.  I just make ideas to cosplay from like my Lord of the Rings thread and some others.

I'll probably do Kick-Ass next year. Sorry If I made it look like a offtopic kind of thing. But it's obvious that this would be about cosplay.

Well, it would be nice if you can manage the first post, and keep tabs on what people are doing, or it's gunna get locked and forgotten.

I might do a Kick-Ass cosplay in the future.

If I ever had the time and money to pull it together in the future...
I'd like to cosplay as Red Mist. And as much as I loved the way he looked in the comic, I think I'd like to do the movie version more.
Mostly because his hair amuses me greatly. =w=

I agree - if anything, there is a tenuous connection to American comics, but very little to do with anime or manga.

OK, so: when do we cross outside of 'cosplay' and end up in 'generic fandom costuming' ?
I mean, doing an authentic 'brownshirt' from Firefly/Serenity is fandom-based costuming, bit you wouldn't call it 'cosplay,' right?
Similarly, an authentic storm trooper from Star Wars IV isn't 'cosplay,' it's basic fandom costuming just like a Star Trek con would be. You wouldn't call an accurate reproduction of a Marvel or DC comics character 'cosplay;' that's American comics, not Japanese, so it can't really be 'cosplay?' ...

Go visit the Cospa store in Shibuya; if it's not available there, then it's probably not 'cosplay. '<imho, ymmv, etc...>

^ Thats not cool man. Cosplay stands for costume play so yah.

Manga = comic book.  Authors sometimes call there manga a comic book because it's practically the same thing. "manga" is just "comic" in Japanese. OH- theres also American manga's so whatever. American manga-ka's too.

P-personally, I don't feel like people over the age of the actress should cosplay Hit Girl... I know we do want to show our love for Kick-Ass and unfortunately, Hit Girl is the only really recognizeable female character but what makes her so impressive is that she's so young.  The skill would not be as impressive if she were the same age as Big Daddy, right?

I know, I'm short too.  5' and done growing.  But... It just feels kind of wrong to me.  Anyways, just sharing my thoughts and I'll probably still eagerly take pictures of whatever Hit Girls there are out there, from age 3 to age 83.

Also, yes, cosplay is about COSTUMES, not omg desu desu japan desu.  Contrary to popular belief among anime convention attendees, Japan ISN'T the ultimate say on what is X or Y.  If you were complaining about people cosplaying Western characters at an anime convention it'd make a little more sense (though I'd still roll my eyes) but Kick-Ass cosplay, if a...costumed character, is definitely cosplay (also, I don't think you'd be making a big deal about someone cosplaying Naruto or Sailor Moon at Comic-con, or PAX, or something).  It's not like the Japanese are the only ones to create characters that have eccentric designs.  Also, regarding that store?  Hello, some of us cosplay characters FROM JAPANESE MEDIA whose costumes simply DON'T have a sweatshop design.  Does this mean my Tales of Legendia alternate plot design doesn't count because it's not popular?  How about my Persona 4 final boss?  Oh wait, these are video games, I forgot those didn't count because you didn't mention them.

(1) I love this movie, & I'd love to see folks cosplay it. & yes, i said cosplay.
(2) I don't go to cons because my love for things is limited to things that come from Japan. I go to cons because I love fandom. I love fan culture, & fan creations, from fanfics to dounjinshi.
(3) If I had to name one most all-consuming fandom at the moment, I'd say Lost. & Where did Lost build a lot of it's fandom? At Comic Con. Even though it was a tv show, not a comic. A TV show with some of the most brilliant tie-ins imaginable. I'd go to a panel hosted by someone who planned & executed some of those tie-ins, before I'd go to a panel hosted by someone who's show I'd never heard of or did not particularly impress me; I certainly would not pick the latter over the former just because the latter might be from Japan and the former, not.
(4) Moreover, some of my favorite manga-type publications are actually Korean manwha. Would anyone call someone who cosplayed from a manwha not "really" a cosplayer? *rolls eyes* Please.
