Initial suggestions for the positions to be elected by the 2011 Board were, um, overlooked at the end of Kumoricon 2010. (Sorry! We were tired.) Suggestions can be posted in this thread.

I would like to suggest Brandon De Vore as the Facilities Liaison. He worked extremely well with hotel management this year and I believe would do an excellent job with both the Hilton and Red Lion next year.

Please forgive my lack of knowledge on this subject, but are Assistants to Directors appointed by each individual Director, or by the Board, such that suggestions for such belong in this thread? Thank you.

Directors choose their own Assistant Directors.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeell, actually, the org chart gets tweaked a bit each year, incorporating stuff we learned from last year and anticipated needs of the current year, so last year's chart isn't a guarantee.

Oh! Right. Well, speaking as someone who has been a Manager for 4 KCs now, I do believe it would be helpful if the ability for Directors to have personal Assistants is retained. I also believe it would be ideal for Managers to have both Assistant Managers & Personal Assistants. (This is from Rathany posting elsewhere that Directors need more folks willing to work at Manager levels. IMHO more people would be willing to take & remain in such high levels of responsibility if they could feel they had built-in help; plus, it would help Coordinators, to be separated from tasks that could feel like personal assistants.)

Some of it is in the bylaws:

Article 4: Officers
A. Designation of Officers
*snip*
2. In addition to the duties for Officers enumerated in this Article, the board may assign additional duties to Officers.

B. Duties of the President
The duties of the President shall be to:
1. Preside at all Meetings of the organization if not otherwise specified;
2. Call the annual Altonimbus Entertainment Board Meeting;
3. Have general supervision of the affairs of the organization;
4. Personally represent the organization on proper occasions and in business contacts;
5. Appoint any person or committee not otherwise ordered by the organization;
6. Assist all other Officers and Managing Directors of the organization in their records, correspondence and other organization duties;
7. Act as Chair of Kumoricon.

C. Duties of the Vice President
The duties of the Vice President shall be to:
1. Assist the President with all organization, business, and management;
2. Perform the duties of the President in her/his absence;
3. Act as Vice Chair of Kumoricon.

D. Duties of the Secretary
The duties of the Secretary shall be to:
1. Keep a record of the minutes of each Board and Membership Meeting;
2. Handle all organization correspondence;
3. Give notices for Membership and Board meetings;
4. Maintain records of Member names and addresses;
5. Authenticate records of the corporation.

E. Duties of the Treasurer
The duties of the Treasurer shall be to:
1. Collect dues of all Members;
2. Maintain organization financial records and deliver financial reports to the organization annually or when requested by the board;
3. Maintain organization banking and bank account.

F. Duties of the Facilities Liaison
The duties of the Facilities Liaison shall be to:
1. Oversee contractual dealings with facilities, including but not limited to hotels and convention centers, where Kumoricon and other major Altonimbus Entertainment events may take place or are taking place, or may have or has agreements relating to lodging of event attendees;
2. Represent the interests of Altonimbus Entertainment as determined by the Board while acting as an intermediary to such facilities as described in Paragraph 4.F.1;
3. Research options for facilities as described in Paragraph 4.F.1 for future Altonimbus Entertainment events, as needed.

For my job (Secretary), that includes developing Member Services as well as keeping track of EVERYTHING except the money and inventory.

Removed... is not quite what you're looking for.  'Accepted Publicity Directorship' might be more appropriate than 'withdrawn'.

EDIT: Never mind, I see now you were speaking specifically of the list of people Suggested for the Board-Elected 2011 Positions. There really is no need to "Remove"/"Withdraw"/Post any update on the suggestions, historically I was suggested for the position, and If the board choses to send me an e-mail soliciting my letter of interest, I will simply decline. No muss no fuss!

At the meeting, Myself and Debra Stansbury both nominated Phillip Koop to be my Padawan Learner/The New Facilities Liaison.

And thats all the hint I will give on that. Of course we will still be running people through Sasuke, so it's any-body's guess who will become the board elected's....

Just wanted to be sure there would be no confusion, as with your name still on the list of those under consideration for the position for next year, those who weren't at Elections yesterday to hear you specifically clarify such, might get confused & think that even while Publicity you were still applying for potential double-duty

I'd only apply to continue Facilities if for some crazy reason;

A) No one applied/ No one who was adequately prepared to do the job/enthusiastic

OR

B) all applicants were robot alien zombie ax murderers

Dawn can tell you that doing more than one Director Position in a year is T-O-U-G-H!
But I have a sincere love for Facilities and will work with whomever the Board choses
to make sure it is a happy little wonder-realm of joy and awesome mixed in with a heap
of efficiency. But just for anyone's clarification, there have been past occurrences of
a Director taking more than one Directorship. It's not ideal, and as we get more people
willing to be managers that becomes less of an issue, which is MUCH better!

With me officially being between 1-3 directors in any given month when I was Vice, I think it averaged out to me being 1.8 Directors that year. 

Being Publicity doesn't preclude Ally from being in the running, NOT that I recommend her doing two jobs.  So, there is no automatic removal of her name. 

Dude, if Debra was appointed she'd be Hotel/Asst. Hotel for 3 different cons until Orycon was over.

To clarify: It was not that I assumed name-removal to be automatic, but that (and, being in the back of the room, I could easily have mis-heard), I thought I had heard yesterday someone ask & Ally affirm that if elected to Publicity she would not also still be actively running for Facilities. I think Ally clarified the difference, i.e., not actively campaigning, but not closed to it if the con needed her to additionally keep doing it. That's dedication!

Letters of interest have been solicited from the persons named in the original (edited) post.

If you were not named but you are interested in being considered for appointment, please submit a letter of interest (or letter of intent or cover letter) to both secretary@kumoricon.org and chair@kumoricon.org.  At least one of us will forward your letter to the rest of the Board.  You may include a resume if you wish.

Please send your letter by Thursday, October 7, and include a particular time when (and phone number where) you may be reached on Saturday, October 9, after 5:00 PM.  Please also try to become available on Sunday, October 10, because the successful candidates should join the Org Chart Work Party* that day.

* Fortunately, the departments under the positions in question are small and flexible, so if you are elected but you can’t make the work party, it won’t be the end of the world.
