No. That is merely the earliest time you can check in. (However, there might be a deadline late in the evening. Check each hotel's website if you are going to be really late. You can call and say you will be arriving late. But an hour after check-in open is very fine.)

*whisper whisper* ...sometimes you can even check in early too! Go to check in and often your room will be ready early, worst case its not but still no loss.
