Blood drive
« on: April 17, 2006, 04:22:23 pm »
I was thinking perhaps in June or July maybe as a con we could organize a blood drive or all go to an existing one to donate and show a little community spirit.  If this sounds good to anyone else, let me know.

I am becoming a regular at a nearby Plasma Donation center. I like watching movies, and morbidly giggling as I watch the little machine suck out my blood. LOL.
I wouldn't mind donating blood, but then I'd have to wait for a while before I could donate Plasma.

I am medically not allowed to give blood or donate organs.  I have been covered in blood and had to wash bits of brain out of my hair does that count.   But it's funny that I am a supporter of Donation.

Hmm, sorry, I cannot be of help either.

As a diabetic, I am pretty sure I am not allowed to donate blood. Unless, ya know, there happens to be a diabetic who needs blood and has the same type as me. I guess that would work, not sure.

As for moral support, I could do that. :D

It's other reasons for me but 7 weeks ago I was Diag as Type 2 and no more pepsi,  The checking my blood sugar every day or so is no problem but no pepsi it's hard.

And since I have preformed CPR on about 10 peaple and half of them made it if any one passes out I'm qualified to call for the nurse.

Grrr....I've wanted to give blood for a very long time. I have a rare blood type, but I'm slightly anemic so each time I've tried I've been denied.

Here's a couple tricks for you Xaam, as I tend to run just under their acceptable limit as well (they require 38, I usually run 37).  Take multivitamins twice a day the week before, eat lots of Malt-O-Meal (high in iron), green beans (also high in iron), and drink a ton of water.  Try to eat something high in iron about an hour or so before the scheduled donation.  Worked for me last time (which was about three weeks ago).  Pie, I don't know what local blood drives they have, but worst comes to worst we could all go down to the main center by Legacy Emanuel Hospital.
