Help! Need Japanese PS2 Information for Convention!
« on: June 16, 2004, 10:17:06 am »
Hihi!  I know I need to get some sort of a mod chip and it needs to be soldered to the board, but I have no idea where to get the chip and how to have it done right.

I can solder electrical cords and when I was a DJ, I used to fix my headphones all the time, but I'm out of practice and too afraid to work on a circuit board.

I've also tried Google and can't really figure out where to go from that.

it really depends on the model of PS2 and what modchip you need.  Also, soldering a modchip is much more difficult than soldering a cable.  the solder points are quite small.

a google search should give you some good results, but the main thing is going to be the PS2 model.  there are about 5 mod chips for the PS2.

I'd personally suggest you talk to Sean or Peter... since they have a Japanese PS2.

Here's an update:

I found an amazing deal on a Japanese PS2.  I got the limited edition white one for under $200!  (the regular ones were from $350-$400).

Now here is my new delema.  I've ordered the special Japanese PS2 Karaoke Revolution Mic and the Anime Expansion Pack for the con.  But I need the Origional Japanese Karaoke Revolution to make the expansion pack work.  I've googled and googled....every one I see has the word expansion in it.  I don't know enough Japanese to tell if it is saying that it is an expansion pack, or it works with all of the expansion packs... There seem to be two different Jpop collections both with the number 1 on them, so I think it might be one of them.

I'm hoping someone can help me soon, because I want to have all the songs available for it with Romanji lyric Sheets available for the convention!  (the Japanese version is in Romanji/Kanji and there is no vocal track to help like in the US version.  Just a midi file of the tune that one can adjust the volume of).

Please Help!  I know this would really be a big hit at the con!

Oh, one more question.  Do I need special Japanese memory cards too?

yeah I think you might need a jp memory card, but I'm just guessing, they should only be aroung $8-$12 worth. Good luck.
And now I'm a catgirl?
