Badge & Other Questions
« on: August 09, 2006, 06:15:28 pm »
Okay, this is my first time attending Kumoricon, or a convention of any kind and I'm riddled with questions. If you all could please help me, that would be wonderful!

#1: On the badges, do people usually put the character their cosplaying as or their real name?

#2: My sister and I are planning on staying at our cousin's who lives in downtown Portland. There's nothing wrong with this, right? We can still get in and everything?
(The reason I'm worried about this is because the guardian form asked which room number your guardian would be staying in.)

#3: How many people cosplay? Is it mostly everyone? And you just walk right in wearing your outfit, correct?

I'm sorry if these questions may seem kind of stupid, but I'm really nervous about this. XD; Thanks, everyone!

Hello and welcome to the forum.  ^_^

1. People can put either their cosplay character, real name, or nickname on their badges.  A lot of people on the forum like to put their user name on their badges so people can know who they are.

2. There is no problem whatsoever with you staying somewhere else outside of the hotel.  The hotel just allows those of us who live far away to be near the con and not have to travel back and forth every day.
You DO need to remember to bring your badge with you (once you pick it up at the con).  That's the only thing that will keep you from seeing exhibits and the dealer's room.

3. A good chunk of people will be cosplaying.  I want to say 80% not counting adults who are supervising.
And there were even people last year who walked right into the mall wearing their costume.  Imagine the reaction from people when a Cloud cosplayer suddenly appears in the food court with a subway sandwich. ^_^

1) Well, I put my Username, but it's really up to you. Some people put their character and their real name on it. There aren't any rules I don't belive about what you can and cannot put on it (As long as it's you nkow, appropriate.)

2) Yes, people are staying across the street and (I'm just guessing someone will be sleeping in their car... haha.) in friends places, I think that's more for the fact that the younger con-goers tend to... wander off and they need to be escorted back to their rooms at midnight. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I'm guessing.

3) Lots of people cosplay. I don't have exactly figures (haha, cospaly algebra) but it's probably... 5:1, five people cosplaying for every non-cosplaying person at the con. Maybe 4 or 6? Yes, you walk in in your outfit, or you could change in the bathroom... but that'd be a hassle because you'd have to carry your clothes around...

I hope I answered your questions! ^_^ I hope you have a good first kumoricon.

We really like it when people use the hotel to stay in, because it helps us meet the number of rooms we promise the hotel we will fill, thus getting us the cheapest rate. Otherwise, we have less money to spend on guests, prizes, tv and game rentals, etc.

But, really, a lot of the fun is had hanging with friends in the hotel. I have a great time wandering around and seeing what people are showing on their laptops. (You meet people this way!)

My experience is, it's a lot more convenient if you need to change costumes, take a nap, store an enormous prop, etc. My first con I ran back and forth, and missed out on some of the events. Next time, I had a room, and could change outfits, get soda, make oatmeal with the coffee pot, what have you. But there is no rule that you must stay at the hotel. :)
You'll be loved, you'll be loved, like you never have known. When memories of me will seem more like bad dreams. Just a series of blurs, like I never occurred. Someday, you will be loved.
