AMV Judges' Panel Preliminary Results, & OP News!
« on: August 01, 2006, 09:09:40 pm »
Hey everybody!

The judges' screening went well.  Here are the results:

DRAMA / ROMANCE [6]
JAPANESE MUSIC [3]
COMEDY [3]
SERIOUS TRAILERS [2]
ACTION / EFFECTS [4]

Total [18] AMVs with a total time of just under 54 minutes.

Series Used:

Air
Animatrix
Ayashi no Ceres
Blood, The Last Vampire
Excel Saga
Final Fantasy [2]
Fruits Basket
Full Metal Alchemist
Hellsing
Kaleido Star
Naruto
Ouran Highschool Host Club
Pale Coccoon
Paradise Kiss
RaXephon
Sailor Moon
Scryed

Other notes:

- No two pieces used the same music source.
- The panel selected a Judges' Choice - and I'm nearly certain it was a unaniminiminous** decision.

Back to working the Contest OP! I've wedged in shots from a little over 20 series. I hope to get it done by 2 or 3 weeks ahead of the con. THEN, I'll post a link to it and we'll have an ONLINE contest. Here's how it'll work:

I'll provide a link to the video. You view the video, then guess at as many of the series as you can identify. We're just looking for the title or name of the show - you don't need to name any characters -IN- the show. Write all the shows you recognize on a piece of paper with your name and some kind of contact info on it. (an e-mail address is fine.)

I will decide on a meeting spot & time (during the con) to collect the entries. I will add points for correct entries and subtract points for series written in which aren't actually in the OP.

The highest score will receive a prize (usually something like a DVD, a figurine, or a video store gift card with a modest sum of $$$ on it...)

Ideas & comments?

- GLL

Is it possible to find out if your AMV was selected for the contest?
I'm pretty sure mine was considering the anime I chose was listed above but.... uh... you never know.

I'd like to know if my entry got there alright... I haven't gotten a confirmation email or anything.

...*hem* I'd also like to know if my entry is one of the ones counted in the listing. You can PM me, but I'd like to know because my mom wants to know if she should go to the contest or not. She doesn't like to go if mine isn't part of it though x_x'

Oh man.  Now I gotta get to the contest.

Will we get to know when it's gonna be held and in what room?  I'm going to be busy working in the Artist's Alley but I'd love to know ahead of time so I can make it this year.  I got alot of traffic at my table last year that I didn't get a chance to make it and didn't get a roster so please let me know.

And no Bleach?  Darn.  Oh well.  Next year.  I have this really good idea from the Squirel Nut Zippers and I think others will enjoy it.

I have a question too.  The AMV Contest is right when the Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 tournament starts.  Are we allowed to enter and leave the AMV Contest and come back (assuming a friend is saving my seat).

I usually don't find out what room is where and when until I actually show up at the con. Up until then, your guess is as good as mine as to the exact where vs. when, or what program events are scheduled opposite the AMV contest & show.

If you submitted an AMV, you do not have to be present during the show to win - it's audience voting, and if you win something you will be notified - somehow or other - and then I will mail you one of the prizes. This year is like last year - we have (IIRC) entries from Germany, France, and Finland and a few states like California and Georgia or Ohio.

Within a few days after the con I will post the list of AMVs that ran in each category, the category winners, and the overall prizes (Judges' Choice & Best of Show.)

As far as entering and leaving, feel free to come and go as you please - if you duck out to another event - hey, have fun where-ever. It's a CON, right? No one is 'taking attendance,' we don't have 'home room,' and this isn't the movie 'Cube,' where they lock others out and lock you all in with poorly-made, pixellated WMV Linkin-ball-Z AMVs playing on every internal surface, and bizarre nasty death-traps and torture machines in every module...

If you need to plan on coming and going, you might want to grab a seat near the perimeter of the room so you can leave and re-enter without distubing others...

That's it - otherwise do whatever you want to have FUN.

- G

PS: No one submitted a Bleach video this year, and I was surprised no one did anything using One Piece. Oh well, see y'all next year, maybe...

Do we know what day it will be held on?

I tried to look at the excel con schedule but didn't see anything listed (of course I could be blind, lol!)

The reason is that I am scheduled to work the whole weekend and might be able to get the day of the contest off, but I don't know which one it is.

Thanks a bunch!

For some reason when I opened the file, the first column it shows is "D" and I didn't notice I had to scroll backwards to see the first 3 columns (see, I can be blind sometimes!)

Bah, I guess it really doesn't matter since it looks like I won't make it to the con this year anyway. Started a new job this week and as it stands I'm working that entire weekend after all.  I am sending my significant other tho, so he can go and then tell me all the details later. Kinda sucks cause I always like to see how people react to my stuff (provided they get shown), but I guess that's life! ^.^

That blows. You can't talk with your supervisor/manager/boss/whatever about getting Saturday off?

I wish I would have known ahead of time that I was gonna be able to make it to Kumori-Con so I could have submitted my AMV in time. (I work retail at Fred Meyer's and well.. we get really busy on Labor Day Weekend. I was extremely lucky to get Saturday off.)

Best of luck to everyone that entered!

(Oh well, always next year!)

Btw, if anyone wants to see my AMV drop me a line. I'm always interested in hearing some feedback! ^___^

I would love to see your AMV. Do you have it uploaded to animemusicvideos.org or someplace else?

Well, I went into work tonight and noticed they changed the schedule. I have to work Saturday night now, instead of all day Saturday, so I can go to the con in the morning and whatnot. I just have to leave right after the Contest or I'll be late for work. ^.^

Right on! I had to do that one year too. Had to work at 2pm, though.. Then came back and did the whole dance thing. (Was that Sunday? I don't remember!)

As for my music video... It's on YouTube .... Never heard of that other site before. I guess I should submit it.

This music video was my first attempt, so be gentle. :p

I been pondering making some new music videos lately. Unfortunately the anime I'm hooked on right now (Pita Ten) is fansub only and .. well .. subs on your AMV is ghetto!

Very well done. The timing was really really good. I liked it. ^.^

For next time, you should enter your video whether you know you will attend or not, just to share it with others. I'm pretty sure you don't have to be present to win either, since they don't announce the winner until the closing ceremonies or later.

Oh. Well.. ok. :d I'll keep that in mind. ^_^;;;  Of course hopefully by 2007 I won't be working retail anymore so I can get weekends (and labor day) off. ^_^

YUU TORI DA.

You do not have to be present to submit videos, and you do not even have to be a con member. This year as last I have several out-of-state submissions and a handful from the EU as well. Whoever wins prizes will get them sent by mail if he or she is not present. Last year I sent a few DVDs overseas. (So much for region coding ...)

To Reppy: Check in with the forum win a few months - we'll be soliciting for new contest categories, etc. and starting the wheels turning again for 2007!

BACK TO VIDEO MAKING . ....

Right on. I've got a few good ideas for some new music videos, too. We'll see how they turn out.

And omg! Prizes?! I had no idea! I would have thought the admiration and recognition of your otaku peers would have been prize enough! :D:D:D

See you guys at the con!
