Festival Japan at Uwajimaya Sept 16&17
« on: September 13, 2006, 06:59:09 am »
It's that time of year again ... a Japanese festival at Uwajimaya !

I picked up a flyer last weekend (I was buying moon child. <3) , here's what it says.

----
September 16 % 17, 2006
11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Uwajimaya Plaza

This exciting community event will showcase a wide variety of performances, exhibitions, cultural demonstrations and artisans.
Everything from taiko drumming to koto, martial arts and Japanese children's games will be experienced at this event which will highlight the many aspects of Japanese culture.
Exciting events to take place will be the tofu eating contest (sat&sun) and the sashimi samurai contest (sat only).
----

...and you can cosplay!!! <3 ~
I cosplayed at the last festival, and some people took pictures of me. :3
I might go on Saturday ; hopefully i'll see you guys there!
(i'm waiting to get an outfit from ebay...)

I can't believe I didn't know about this!! I guess I'll go, I'm only 5 minutes from there <3...

I think o.o... if that's where I think it is... *goes to check link*

<3 yup it is

---

What EXACTLY happens there? Is it worth bugging my mom to go? Or should I just tell her /secretly/ by saying I want to go to the bookstore (name?) again?

If I do go, I won't really cosplay, just probably wear a sound headband, some ninja sandals, and maybe the gloves I used for my Kabuto cosplay. If you see me there, PLEASE come and say hi!!! I'm... just... so lonely... ;__;  ... -~-~emo~-~-

I went last year and got extra credit in my Japanese class.

Expect me there, just not in cosplay, because if I got extra credit last year, I will this year, too.

...Wait.
This means I've had my pink and black Copics for a year.
<3

Kinokuniya is love.
I'm so getting the rest of the Ouran manga in Japanese.
xD
(9 just came out.  Perfect excuse to go get it~)

Oh yeah, I saw some Naruto cosplayers last year when I went.
There were only like, three of them, though.

Meh.
I'll love eating there again. =B

er... I'll look for a hat... not many people wore hats at Kumoricon, so if I just look for a weird hat here, I'll find you... right..?

And I just found a whole bunch of Japan and anime newbies at my school, so maybe they'll be willing to come! I hope, at least. I'll just tell them cosplayers will be there to lure them in +w+

*crosses fingers* I'm trying to go. I can only go Sunday though. *laughs weakly* Mom has to go scrapbooking on Saturday, so I have to take care of grandma.

If I go *thinks for a second* I'll probably be TenTen, but much older and dressed up.

*sitting at her desk, looking all professional-like* Weather Report: Saturday looks like cloudy, with a few showers. High of 67 degrees, Low of 50 degrees. Sunday looks partly cloudy. High of 74 degrees, Low of 52 degrees.

*scratches head* I remember the first year I went. It was raining off and on, but when it rained...it poured. Just wanted to give a heads-up to everyone.
Randomness is good for the soul.

Take the max to Beaverton TC, grab the 54 to Portland...it'll be like..the 6th or 7th stop..as far as I can remember. You could always just ask the bus driver to let you know, that's what I usually do when going somewhere for the first time.

You could also grab the 54 downtown and take it towards Beaverton TC, though the first way might be faster, depending on your timing with the 54.

I might be there..haven't really decided yet.

Ooh! *dances* I remember talk of this, and am really excited and glad I read this tonight and not tomorrow! ^_^

Of the stuff going on, let's not forget that our own A-Key Kyo will be playing both days, I believe.

I probably will not be cosplaying, but it will be nice to be at a sort of "Kumoricon: Round II" ^_0

Yeah, you only have to pay if you want to buy things. I'm buying Pocky!

About the 54 route.
The biggest landmark is the 217 overpass. You'll get to a stop right across the street from Fred Meyer before the overpass, and then there's one stop after the overpass.
Uwajimaya is closest to the second stop after the overpass. It is a stoplight just past a FANTASY adult bookstore (on the right), across from a Target.

The cross street for the stoplight you stop at is 107th avenue.

Heh heh, on Google it is diagonally across from the bullseye like Chinese Retaurant.

I stuck around the manga section, too.
I do remember a few people around the back, though.
We both have bad memories, apparantly.

However, I was around the Copics and Japanese manga a lot, too.
Actually, that's really what I got.
1, 5, and 8 of the Japanese version of Ouran Koukou Host Club (^o^)
Origami paper
and a pencil.

Then I ate at the restaraunt attatched with my parents.

Stalking in a bookstore way to go!    I remember once when B Dalton first opened they had an all night sale.  Some friends and me went there at midnight; we had it all planed out.  We had a nerdy looking girl with glasses as a decoy, so when Susan (Tzuxan) would call them over Nat would block there escape with a book cart and I’d say hi and run away.

Of course the slickest trick I did in a bookstore I was in the used bookstore next to the U of O at 6PM on a Saturday night.  I noticed a be spectacled temptress who’s lenses  were windows into my soul and her hair was a radiant halo of mouse brown fire 6 places in front of me in line had the Hobbit.  What could be a bigger turn on than knowing such a dorkydorable lady was about to go home and read the hobbit alone on a Saturday night when every one else was about to party.

So my first impulse was to dive for the book in her hand yelling noooooooooooooo, and offer to give her my extra 5 volume tolkien set if she told me her name and let me get her ice cream at dairy queen next door.  Of course I played it cool, you know she was just waiting for me to do that and jump over the 6 people between us.  She knew she was Nerdilicious and wanted to tease me with the thought of her reading and having a cup of coco while wearing frumpy flannel pajamas.   So I bided my time and waited for just the right time to strike and then she left the store and I was still 6 places from being able to leave.  So I went to Dairy Queen alone.

O.O Oh I'm so glad you were there! I felt so bad 'cause you didn't talk to me, I thought. Oh noes! He/she isn't here, and I didn't make it back on Sunday 'cuase mum dragged me to see Hollywoodland, which was really good. I hightly recomend it. I know I didn't spell that right, but oh well I'm to otired to care. the festival gave me a badass cold. I'm all stuffed up, and hacking. *cough cough*. I don't recall a green blazer >.<. I got yaoi from the bookstore ^_^!!! It makes me happy, and OMG, I got six bucks in theses Cardcaptors cards that were a dollar each, and had like 30 per pack. I think I'm addicted now 'cause I almost have the entire 2nd and 3rd set. It's been so long since I did any card collecting. It's cool. :D
Anyway, sorry you were so shy. I'm shy too. Heehee! x.x....
