...Why is Davey Jones a cthulhu?  Was I not paying enough attention or did they just not explain it?  O.o

He isn't. A Cthulhu was a mix of a human, octopus and dragon. Davey Jones is just a mix of various sea creatures. If I where to classify, Chimera would probably cover it better than Cthulhu.

Those who are cursed by Davey Jones become fused with various parts of the sea, whether it be creatures, rocks, sea plants. Hell, that one guy was simply part of the ship. And his brain... his brain just sat there... in the open... pulsating... Yeesch.

What I want to know is how Bootstrap survived BEFORE accepting Davey Jones' curse. He said he just sat at the bottom of the ocean after being dropped from his ship, not dying. Then the concept of an immortal curse came along. Huh?

Well, technically, they were already cursed, they just didn't know it yet.

I figure Bootstrap didn't voice much of an opinion about the muitiny until after they found the cursed treasure.

Ahhh, I see now. He was part of the first movie's curse. It makes sense now.

If no one else has contacted you... (highlight)
I don't think you missed very much in that scene.  Will and his dad challenged Davy Jones to a game of chance where they were betting years of service (to Davy).  Will's challenge was he'd bet eternal service (I think) if Jones would bet the key.  Will's dad joined in to save his son and lost to Jones.  Will later explains he only made the bet in order to figure out where Jones hid the key.

Wikipedia Cthulhu

Google image

Though there are similarities between Davy Jones and a Cthulhu, thats all they are, he isn't one. His characters design may have been inspired by it.

A Cthulhu is its own species, Davy Jones was a former human, thus its impossible he is a Cthulhu, that and the aforemention Dragon part of the Cthulhu that wasn't ever represented by the Davy Jones character.

It'd be quite interesting to see a Cthulhu in the next movie, though.

Put whatever text you want white in here

To make it easy, type something then highlight it. Go to "Font colour" at the top and select a color. Same goes for "Font size".

Not really.  Will's dad pretty much had it as bad as possible on that ship already.  To him having to pledge eternal servitude to Jones meant there wasn't much else Jones could punish him with.
And the key turned out to be in Jones' own tentacle-beard.

I saw PotC DMC on Opening Day and then the next day too.... I loved the movie as much as the first one, and as much as the ride! *squeals like a fangirl and the coughs*

My favorite line from the whole movie, 'Ello Beastie.

My friends and I almost cried at the ending. T_T

oh i totally cried. (just a weensy bit ;) )

negima (or anyone): (highlight text to read)

so did will win the key in a fair gambling match? i'm guessing not, or his dad would have been freed from servitude?
is will's dad already in eternal servitude? how did that happen?
if will didn't win the key, how did he get it? or did someone else get it?now as for my favorite part of the whole movie (of course), i love the flirting and kiss and power plays between elizabeth and jack. i hope they move more in that direction next movie. i like her being the strong one and tricking him for the greater good of saving most, but then regretting it despite her love for will because she really is admiring of, smitten with, and also loyal to jack. that's actually one of the only things that made this film really fun for me. they would really be fools if they didn't play that up in the next film........and of course the pathos of at some point will likely will explode at her over the kiss she does not know he observed, and i would think jack would admire her all the more for her craftiness.  i also loved her crossdressed and if anyone has any links to photos in which she is cross dressed would love to cosplay that.

@Rem
Oh wow, you missed a lot more than I expected. @_@
Will and his dad didn't win the key but the game ended up with Will being safe (I didn't quite catch how the game was played).  From what I remember each of the crewmen had to pledge 100 years of servitude when they first started.  Sometimes they would bet years with each other since that's all they had.  Will's dad was "forced" into servitude with Jones since he couldn't die (from first movie) yet he couldn't stand the pain being down at the bottom of the ocean.  Jones brought him up if he agreed to be a member of his crew.
After Jones showed Will where he kept the key, Will waited until Jones was asleep before switching the key with the diagram of the key.  After that he escaped by hiding on the ship.  Jones thought Will might be heading for the treasure chest so he directed the ship toward the island which is how Will got there with the others.

And after the last part you mentioned I just had to mention this quote from the movie:
"Those clothes don't look fitting on you at all.  I prefer that you wear a dress or nothing at all and it just so happens I do not have a dress on my ship."  ^_^

yeah my clients are developmentally disabled and mobility impaired so taking one of them to the bathroom means missing a significant part of the movie.

great quote, i must've missed that too on another such trip.
