Cosplay newb questions!
« on: January 11, 2007, 09:36:08 am »
Ok. So I've never been to the Kumoricon, and I'm most likely going this year. I just have a few questions.

1) Does it cost anything and if so, how much?

and
2) Do a lot of people cosplay, or if I dress up am I going to feel like a moron and be the center of attention?

Any help would be most appriciated.

hello and welcome C: (I've never been to the con either, but I've done alot of research ^.^)

It does cost money for a badge (basically a ticket for the con), I know that it's $30.00 for a pre-registration badge (and most of the stuff you need to know IS on the website so you should probably look at that)

If you stay in the hotel that's when things start getting a bit spendy, but if you have family/friends in the portland/vancouver area that can help cut costs.

And as an answer to your second question YES LOTS of people cosplay :D. And lots of people don't cosplay as well, it's all great fun ^.^

I'm sure some other people will post on here giving you better information. c:
Someday...I'll get around to you.

Hi Vampire, welcome to the forums!  Much of the basic information about the con is covered on the main page, and an FAQ page is in the works.

and most important if you need to bring a guardian other then your parents it should be your single nerdy aunt between 30 and 40 with glasses.

And even I was in Cosplay as Pops Racer one day but every one thought I was the Pizza Delivery Man

Thank you guys so much! And I tried looking for it. I'm just an idiot. XP Sorry. I must not have looked hard enough. And one more question, and I deeply apologize if I missed this on the information. Does a badge get you in for only one day, or can you go back the next day with the same badge?

That depends.  I believe you can buy a one day pass, but the $30 badge gets in in for the entire weekend.

Yup lots of people cosplay! and if they aren't in cosplay, they're probably are wearing something anime related (i.e. naruto headband)

cosplaying is fun! I think you should definetly go for it. If you're still a little worried you could just wear whatever the first day then cosplay  the second day when you're feeling a little braver.

Sure enough, although I was dressed in jeans, polo shirt and sport coat, I did rock the cat ears, including a pair I made myself at the cat ear workshop.

Hello and welcome to Kumoricon and the forums.

Lots of people cosplay.  Offhand I'd be willing to say 80%-90% of the people there are in cosplay and that includes people wearing one or two anime-related accessories.

You can buy a badge for one day or for all three days.  If you do pre-reg, the price given is for all three days.  I forget what it's at now but the earlier you register, the cheaper the price.
The day passes can be bought at the con but individually bought they would cost more than the 3-day pass.

Don't worry about cosplay - I was a little self-concious the very first time I went and cosplayed, but it's really fun. :) There's even really bizarre costumes ....
I hope you enjoy this con if you're attending. :D

There's lots to do - watch anime, watch shows, music, attend panels, play video games, etc. etc.!

As a first timer last year I can say I had loads of fun, the only weird thing is when you go with someone who Cosplays when you don't.
It felt really weird to be a normal guy walking next to Gendo Ikari.
If you cosplay be sure that you're okay with people commenting about your costume and such, if two events were a good distance away Gendo would get stopped for a picture on the way 90% of the time.

But it was fun, well worth the $30 for three days.

I think I may have found something to wear for Sakuracon!  As you all will recall, I'm about 30 and wear some facial hair, so most costumes would look ridiculous on me.  However, going as the male version of this character would entail little more than a really fancy hat.

What would y'all think of Power Mac G5 - kun?

Hmmm... My computer won't show it, says it's a "Microsoft Financial Security Risk" XD

But seriously it's quite cute, I do want to see how you will pull off a male version of that.

That would be funny but it probably wouldn’t go with the helmet...
Granted not much probably will.
So unless you have something that matches a lot better, I’d say go for it!
...But that's just me...
