Wigs-okay, one more question.
« on: January 15, 2007, 08:02:23 pm »
I need to know of a place where I can get good quality wigs.
I looked at a few sites, but they didn't have a lot of variety, so they didn't have what I needed.

Is there a website, or even a store here in Portland, that has a large variety of wig styles and colors?

EDIT: Okay, I found the styles I wanted, but one of the styles that would work best doesn't have an option for the blue color I need. I'm not very experienced with wigs, (so I'll have a friend who is help me alot with this.) But is it okay to buy a bleach blonde wig, then dye it the color that you want if it's made with real hair?
I assume it is, but I wanted to make sure...

www.amphigory.com

and

www.cosworx.com

I've ordered from both and have gotten really nice wigs. Amphigory takes maybe a little longer to ship out, but is a little cheaper priced with some items. Also, like any wigs you order online that are longer in length, they will be a little wavy at the bottom but you can straighten it by following this:

so basically, I've never dyed a wig before but I do know a few things from running around the cosplay.com forums and helping friends. it's perfectly fine to dye wigs. you just have to do it the right way. I'm not sure about dying wigs that have real hair. I assume it's the same as our hair. but if you wanted to dye a sythetic wig you wouldn't be able to use normal hair dye because human hair dyes that you buy in store rely on the melanin and proteins found in your hair strand in order to dye. the amonia in the dye would melt your wig fibers.
to dye a synthetic wig you would have to use the Sharpie and alcohol method-use gloves!: http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=54455

or buy some wig dye from here:
http://www.pettingzoowigs.com/wigsupplies_dye.html

and if you're thinking about dying a wig white, you can't do that. it doesn't work...

but yeah, like I said, I'm not sure about real hair wigs..but i'd assume it would work

i hope that helps ^_^

I need to dye it blue.
I don't think it should be too hard.
Thanks again! You've been a great help!

im not sure what someone was meaning up there, but im pretty sure kati bairs wig dye dosent work/dosent work well on natural fiber wigs, its specifically formulated for synthetic fibers.

or buy some wig dye from here:

meaning those are 2 ways to dye synthetic wigs.

also I never said to use katie bairs wig dye on wigs with natural fibers. I said that I Just didn't know how it would turn out if someone were to use store bought hair dye on wigs with natural fibers. or at least that's what I meant...

sorry if it wasn't clear.
