No, really!

What is the general opinion on people getting married in cosplay, by someone in cosplay, at a convention?

I know someone's been proposed to at a convention, but I haven't heard of a wedding yet.

Although I think it would *rock* to have a cosplay wedding. :3 With the bride in something extravagant, like Anthy (Revolutionary Girl Utena) or Sailormoon's dresses ... *______* [dreams]

The idea originally spawed when I got my credentials, and then turned to my brother to say, "Hey, you think anyone would want Jenova to preform their wedding at a con?"

I just wanted to toss it ut there fer snits and giggles. Heh.

If I had a dorky aunt, I would bring her, just for you. But I only have married aunts and flighty shallow aunts.

Married ewwwwww for some reason some one once set me up with a Librarian and part time teacher with mousey brown hair and glasses who was nerdalichious looking and on our date we cut animals out of fuzzy felt.   But doh she was married WTF I gave her my box of felt and did not call back.   Shallow sucks my last wife turned shallow and lost her imagination, Instead of going to the planetarium and then to a  midnight picnic and on a Saturday night she wanted to go out drinking

but i thought it would be cool to oh hum...just HAPPEN to have my wedding going on at the same hotel and oh i duno kumoricon.....

I wanted to have two small ceremonies for me and Vallie. A quiet one at church for our parents, and then a cosplay one at  hotel for our friends.

We don't have the money for it but the Sailor Moon theme would be awesome since we both like the live action series. I can't think of any other series we'd do realistically. Our friends aren't into enough Scifi to do a good Star Wars wedding.

Ya know, I think it was at SakuraCon a few years ago... I recall there being a wedding (which counted as a real one as the person officiating was legally registered to do so) as the "halftime show" for cosplay. It was Mark [the MC] who got married. They'd turned the whole thing into an amusing act -- the bride walked in to the Darth Vader theme.

Yes, you can do a cosplay themed wedding and could theoretically do it at a convention. The only thing I'd recommend is that you set up some sort of small Mundane ceremony for the parental units who'll freak out about the "odd" wedding. I've seen weddings at SCA events where all attendees are dressed in medieval clothing. If you do want to arrange your wedding you could have it as a "panel" during the convention...witnesses would turn out to be any and all con attendees who chose to show up for it. As for getting someone to officiate, there are various people in fandom who are legally able to marry people and who would be happy to perform the ceremony. (in fact, there's even a Roman Catholic priest somewhere in California --  last saw him at Mass at CascadiaCon -- who goes to conventions just 'cuz he enjoys them, and of course he would say Mass and do a wedding ceremony if asked.... don't recall his name, but might be able to look it up if you want him to perform the ceremony. )    One thing to note would be that wedding attendees would have to be registered convention attendees -- unless you just did it at an area nearby the convention.

Well, the whole point of me bringing it up origionally is because I can legally officiate. I was just curious of what people thought of a cosplay wedding.

Yeah, I think I would, too.  Of course, this would depend on how much my "bride" is into anime.  (The girl I'm looking at right now isn't that big on it, but does like some of it).

Okay, I know this isn't what has been being talked about in this thread, but I have a sister that is getting married in less than a month.  Apparantly, since my soon-to-be brother-in-law is into the Japanese culture (though I don't know about anime or not) I thought it would be cool to get them a Japanese-type of thing as a gift.

Any suggestions?  Better yet, what do the Japanese do for wedding gifts?
