Wig question! (making flip down/in into flip up/out)
« on: May 23, 2007, 03:12:20 pm »
Hi! I'm hoping someone more experienced with wig styling can answer the following question:

I need to make this wig (in pink):
http://www.cosworx.com/thumb_popup.php?productid=26229

do this:

http://img525.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shugocharav01ch01pg004005asg6.jpg
---mysteriously no bangs in this picture. usually she has bangs.

http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey/manga/preview/shugo/?page=4
(lower right corner)
see? bangs.

(I may not do the bit on the top of the head, there's another style (cannot find pic) where her hair is down except for two barrettes, one just above each ear.)

I know the wig looks way longer, but I just got my first wig and it's a total no go--not enough volume, and definitely not long enough. I have a big head. ^ - ^;;;;;;;;;;;;; I'd rather cut off this time than be too short again!

So, how can one make a flip in be a flip out?
is it hard?

thanks!

You should visit http://www.katiebair.com/wigs.html There are some tutorials, and a forum on styling wigs.

Basically you're gonna want to straighten the wig with LOTS of hot water (not boiling, but too warm to put your hand in). Let the wig air dry and comb it out, conditioner helps, and then get big curlers (like the 2 inch diameter ones), and use your hair dryer set to low (with very little blowing air) and get each curler too hot to touch. Leave the curlers in until the wig is cool and wah-lah! you should have a nice flipped up curl.

I've never actually done any of this, but I have been to about 4 of Katie Bair's cosplay wig panels. Highly recommend going to the web site.
