2007 Incentive Plan For Volunteers

Note:  This plan was designed for volunteering in the year of 2007.   Those signing up in 2008, please note this same plan most likely will not be in effect.  Please check back to the forums at a later date to see if any new information is announced.

WE NOW HAVE AN INCENTIVE PLAN FOR OUR VOLUNTEERS!

Here's how it's going to work.  I am keeping track of the hours worked by our volunteers.  I have an official online record of them that I will be updating on a regular basis.  The amount of hours put in between when an individual signed up to be a volunteer this year and end of con (including shut down) will be tallied and rewarded accordingly.

Here's how.

At sign up, you receive a button identifying you as a volunteer, access to the volunteer section of the forums, and you will be added to the email list to be notified by me of Kumoricon news and events.

Buttons are coming soon.

After you reach 4 hours of service, you will receive 2 dollars of Kumori-cash.  What is Kumori-cash?  This is a voucher that you'll be able to use to buy Kumoricon merchandise or to use as a discount towards next year's admission to the convention.  But wait, there's more.

After you reach 8 hours of service, you will receive another 2 dollars of Kumori-cash (total of 4), and a ticket to the Volunteer Raffle.  Yes, that's right.  Volunteer Raffle.  Last day of the con, I'm going to give out three prizes randomly by doing raffle tickets.  This raffle will be for Volunteers only. 

After 12 hours, you'll get another 2 dollars of Kumori-cash (total of 6), another ticket to the Volunteer Raffle (total of 2), and a Special Delivery for the Volunteer by Pocky Club.  If you are not familiar with Pocky Club by now, they are a happy, fun-loving group of people who love Pocky and love to share it with others.  At con, they run a delivery service where a cosplayer will personally deliver a box of Pocky to an individual free of charge.  Being glomped by said cosplayer is optional.  For more information, please visit http://pockyclub.elite-otaku.net/index, or visit their threads on the forums.

After 16 hours, you again receive 2 dollars of Kumori-cash (total of 8), an additional ticket to the Volunteer Raffle (total of 3), and a Free 2007 Kumoricon T-Shirt! 

At 20 hours, you've hit Honorary Staff status.  You'll again receive 2 dollars of Kumori-cash (total of 10), a ticket to Volunteer Raffle (total of 4), and an Honorary Staff Button.  This button will allow entrance to the staff dinner, and Con suite privileges. 

While your incentives do cap out at the 20 hour mark, we will have one additional special gift for the person who puts in the most hours as a Volunteer. 

I will be waiting to announce this prize and the prizes for the raffle on a later date as they've not been purchased yet.

If we've already done stuff for street team, like talked a local business into puting up posters, how many hours does that count for?

That is something that is still being discussed by publicity staff.  We currently don't have an exact equivalent, but as soon as one is decided I will definitely announce it to volunteers.

As we just got this approved officially yesterday, it's going to take a little time, but we're working on it.

As promised, I have images of the buttons that will be distributed.  Please note that the copies I'm providing here will appear as different sizes, but the buttons we print out will all be about 2 inches in diameter.  Also, I couldn't quite make cropping into circles work out for me.  So instead, I made a full square and am handcutting the image to fit the buttons.  The circle you see in the pictures is the guide for where the image will actually end on the buttons.

I will start handing these out these weekend for those signed up to be volunteers.

To all the volunteers, and those that upgraded from volunteer to staff, but still paid attendee price,

I apologize greatly for the failure on follow through with these incentives.  Please know that I do recognize all the hard work you've put into the convention this year, and that I appreciate every single one of you for the extended efforts both before con and after.

I will be reviewing the situation to see if there's anything that can be done after the fact to make up for this, and I will discussing the pros and cons of what happened with coordination of the volunteers to the person that is appointed to this position for 2008, and I will also let them know about each of you that I worked with this year and what you've done for us this year so that they can better serve you next year.

If you signed up to volunteer at this convention, or just randomly started to help us out without sign up at all, please feel free to email me to let me know.  Sometimes, some of you get missed, and I want for all of everyone is accounted for.

the missing out on all the perks wasnt that big, i don't really care , it was the lack of acknowledgement at closing ceremonies that really hurt
it felt like if you didn't help with the line or picked up trash you weren't a volunteer
and i'm sure it was unintentional but it still hurt

we had buttons but they were cheaply made (no offence) but they fell apart when we tried to pin them,

Maybe next year they can have, one lanyards with a special color for volunteers who worked a certain amount of hours (or just for volunteering), maybe if before the con if somebody put in a certain amount of hours they get a special volunteer badge.  Maybe a different color or something like that.  I don't know I do think there could be somethings done to show at least that you are noticed and recognized for the work.

I get home from work around 7. 

Once we have the elections over with, we can talk together to the new directors about a sort of "grandfather" plan to give benefits to those who didn't get incentives for 07, plus work on better ideas for 08.
