Wolfboys/Puppyboys vs. Catboys
« on: October 20, 2007, 01:26:05 am »
In our previous poll, Catgirls reigned supreme as they wallopped their rivals, the Bunnygirls.

In the interest of fairness all around, I wanted to post a topic for animal-eared males, too. Catboys definitely have a showing in anime, headed by catty males such as Kyo from Fruits Basket. However, "bunnyboys" are not a very popular item at all (I have only ever seen one or two in anime).  Instead, it has been determined that the Catboy's biggest rival is the Wolfboy/Puppyboy, as seen on in shows such as Wolf's Rain and Inu Yasha. (Yes, Inu Yasha himself counts! :P )

So!.... In the left corner we have Catboys, known for being sleek, cool, and full of attitude.

In the right corner, we have Wolfboys and Puppyboys, who are either the "lone wolves" of anime, or the "loyal puppies" who stand by their masters. (Doubly so if said master is female.)

Ready.... FIGHT!!

P.S. - The Catgirl topic has been read 1337 times as of this post. Coincidence? I think not.

I sort of lack experience here... what position/title/etc is this poll supposed to be for?  I need just slightly more constraint then has been offered, since it really depends on the context, of which none has been stated.

Possible contexts I can think of:
Which would you rather have as a friend?
Which would you rather have as a rival?
Which would you rather be if you were in an Anime/Manga?
Which do you tend to prefer seeing in Anime/Manga?

Don't they all seem like Jackasses in the end? What looks cute on girls, gets real "furry" on guys very fast. Inu Yasha seems to me to be an exception, as he has so much hair anyway, the ears aren't as noticeable as they would be irl.

But men are like dogs anyway, more than they are like cats.

What about moose antlers? Or feathers?

Go Ducks!

You're overthinking this. We're in the spam forum.  Just vote for the one you like best. The winner gets absolutely nothing, so accuracy is not all that important.

"Gets furry"? I beg to differ. A character who has animal ears (and maybe a tail) and has a few human personality characteristics that are associated with that animal, that's cute. Perhaps you haven't seen enough of the right series. Shounen anime rarely portrays males with endearing animal-like features, because that's not what they assume guys want.

The first that comes to my mind as a good example of catboys, for instance, is the shoujo anime Fruits Basket. The entire show is used to play around with the idea of people whose personalities match what the Chinese zodiac says about their birth year. There is no year of the cat, but the cat is part of the mythology surrounding it, so they have a "catboy": Kyo. It's fun to watch him hiss and jump out the second story when he's upset. ^^ He doesn't normally have cat ears and a tail, but they sometimes draw them on him when he's being particularly angry or antisocial.

You also forgot 'I just can't decide!' as a voting option.  So I guess I'll have to try...

I would say Utawarerumono would be an exception. Everyone has cat-like or dog-like ears and tails, except for one guy. As these ears are also a bit stylized, sometimes it isn't easy to tell the difference between cat ears and dog ears. If it's got orange, it's a cat kind of thing. The ears here also seem somewhat like headresses, to me.

You've met me, would you think I looked cool wearing either kind of ears?

And why not horns? Why not guys with one big spiral horn coming out their forehead? Or tentacles? lol Yeah, they belong to Davy Jones' crew.
Have Fun
