Yeah, yeah, everyone laughs at the thought of playing Pokemon these days, but I know a lot of the younger fans still like it

Personally, although I can't stand the anime version, the games are still pretty fun for long road trips. There's some good strategy involved with so many types/weaknesses/etc, especially in the double battles (2 vs 2 pokemon battles). Anyone else agree? I know it's getting close to the con and all, but I'd love it if there was some form of Pokemon Colloseum or Ruby/Sapphire tournament. Heck, even a place to battle people would be great. After you've gotten your team to about level 70+ it gets old beating the NPCs in Colloseum so badly that they don't even have a chance to attack you

As far as set up, for just Ruby/Saphire battles all that's needed is a table or something, since each battler would have their own Gameboy/Gamepack. A few extra link cables might be handy, but that's it. Colloseum takes a little more, but I'd be happy to loan my Gamecube, two controllers, GBA to GameCube link cable, and Pokemon Colloseum game for the duration of the con.

8O i'm game!!!!! great idea, i never would have thought of that. im 16 and still pass hours of time playing pkmn. only i think i'll need to train my teem a little more (i bet everyone [if anyone] will have maxed out poke's but me...) *gets training*

Don't bet on it, most people get tired of the constant battling it takes to level your team up in Ruby/Saphire since there's no quick cheat like in Red/Blue for getting rare candies to max out your team with... The only pokemon I've got at level 100 is my Rayquaza, all the rest of my main fighters are level 80. Heck, two of the "main fighters" at the moment are from the Colloseum Story mode, and my psychic I'd like to finally replace with Latios if I can ever run into the stupid thing so I can catch it >.<;; I've got Latias that I could use instead, but Latios would be so much better with his higher Sp. Attack....

I have a level 50 team currently with an undefeated Banette.

And I could facilitate card trading as well. I've been collecting* since around the time Jungle came out, and have many rare and valuable cards.

@BlackjackGabbiani: I used to do the card trading waaaayyy, back when it started, I kinda stopped after the Neo set came out 'cuz I realized that without some form of income, there was no way I could keep up TWO expensive hobbies (the first being anime in general, of course

). I've got a complete set of the basic set, almost all of the fossils, and then scattered cards from the Rocket, gym leader, and Neo sets. Plus a bunch of Japanese cards and some of the promo cards... I think I'm too out of date to start trading again, but I wonder how much my card binder is worth now since I think all my cards are probably out of print by now 8O ?

In the RPG room there's going to be a table reserved for ccg's of all kinds, so if you want, you could battle in there. Then you don't have to sit and block a hallway, lol.

Yay! Looks like we have a fair amount of people interested in at least the GBA Pokemon battles! Are pokemon from the Colloseum alright tho? 'Cuz they can be brought over to the GBA games... I'd have to seriously do some readjusting otherwise ^.^;;

I THINK you can do the 2 on 2 in 2 player, but I've never had anyone to try it out with. As for colloseum, I think we need one of the gaming staff to set something like that up. I'd be willing to loan the game system & controllers plus one of the GBA to GC link cables!

For Colloseum battles we need:

Tv
Gamecube <-- I can loan
Pokemon Colloseum game <-- I can loan
Controllers (at least 2, 4 would be awesome tho) <-- I can loan one, maybe two, can't remember how many I have
GBA to Gamecube link cable (one per controller) <-- I can loan one

Battlers will probably bring their own GBAs and gamepacks to play.

For Ruby/Saphire battles all you need is a corner somewhere and people with GBA's and gamepacks plus a GBA link cable or two. We can supply those ourselves probably, tho a few extra link cables would be helpful!

well, I can bring a small tv, two controllers, and some connector cables, I think I have one gba to gba connector and a gba to gc connector hidden somewheres.

So as long as we have a plug-in in the room we'll be fine! I'll know about that this sunday, cuz Im going up for the general meeting. Otherwise I'll bring an extention cord, we'll reach it somehow, lol.

DAMN!!!!!!! i would totally do the stadium thing!!!! if nto for a very tagical thing that occured last summer... i discovered one could play silver on super gameboy, much to my enjoyment... until one day when i got bored and my bro asked if he could play and i said yeah and he PULLED THE GAME OUT without turning it off.

goodbye nearly 70 hrs of training...
and commitment...

That's one of the reason's an Action Replay is your friend! Even if you never use a cheat code, at least you can back up a save on a game like Pokemon and start a new game once in a while without having to buy a new cartridge each time.

Heck yeah! Those were good classics ^_^ I've got a N64, Pokemon Staduim 2, two controllers, and two of those plugins for the controllers that does the transferring from the game cartridges to Stadium! If we had the tvs and enough people we could have a couple of them going, or one Staduim 2 and one Colloseum going. Just let me know what to bring and when for any of the Colloseum or Stadium (if you need it, but it sounds like you don't) stuff, and I'll be there! Unfortunately I can't make it to the meeting this Sunday, but I'm going to try and get to the bag stuffing party, whenever that gets arranged. But yeah, if you need me to do anything, either post here, PM, or e-mail me!

Wheee, now I gotta go review my old games and remember my old teams ^_~

Heh, I lost 500 hours when my sis deleted the game...
There went my perfection on where most pokemon was LV 100 and I had all 151 pokemon without any cheat used. After that I have not touched the game.... It happened twice. *sob*
As you can see I used to be a avid player.^^;;
Used to treat my digital pet like a real one(now that's an addiction)
Since I don't have any time to do such a thing anymore, I'll just watch you guys play(lol)

I got other cartridges.... But they were of the other version so that I could trade between my two versions to get all the species faster

Oh, and I noticed something disappointing the other day... When you import Colloseum pokemon that aren't usually found in Ruby/Sapphire, they don't count in your pokedex ;_; !!!! So sad...

What kind of bums me out is that the new red and green won't be out till the 11th. Wouldn't it have been cool if they came out a few days before the con? They come with the IR attachment too! That was something I really missed from Gameboy color.

I can just picture it....

huh? i thought the release date was the 9th? i know for a fact that's what it was just a few weeks ago, so what good would it do to change a release date by 2 days? to a national mourning day no less! then again this is NINTENDO we're talking about, not the US government...

re: release date

I know that different places are releasing the game on different dates. I'm not sure why, probably something to do with shipping and stuff and pending where in the world people are. I also heard the dates of the 8th and the 12, so yeah, damn companies and damn nintendo.

Although, that means I can still preorder the games after the con when I know how much money I have.

hey wow.. that just gave me a good idea...

im not from portland, and the ride there is one i cant take at my liesure... so i think i reserve some of my money to pre-order it! maybe... im sure the poke-buzz has worn off enough that ppl wont be flocking to every EB Games, Gamestop and Bestbuy in the area like they have before... so i may yet save that 15 or so it would take for pre-order...

..which leads me to another question... are there gonna be wallscrolls and stuff like that at the con for sale?

When it comes to preorder, I know there are a few places where it's actually cheaper to preorder than buy after the release date. Also if you preorder you get the strat guide.

And there were wall scrolls last year, so there will likely be some this year.

oh yeah and, i think new releases IN-store are a store-by-store thing, so whereas the walmart in my area releases all new items every wednesday, gamestop in ptown might release theres on monday

I'm 16 and still play pokemon, what i like to do is use my red and yellow games (since there compatable) have a friend stay the night and train for a certain amount of time then battle to see whos better
