Your favorite games no one knows about?
« on: November 05, 2007, 01:04:18 pm »
Doesn't matter which system. Here are 3 I can think of off the top of my head for the Xbox that very few people know about, and they're 3 of my favorite games.

Indigo Prophecy

Shadow of Memories (This game has terrible graphics, terrible sound, terrible camera and terrible controls. But the concept and plot are awesome.)

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

These games are all kind of similar in game play format. They kind of remind me of the old point and click adventure games on DOS except you control your character in 3rd person. Another game that's kind of similar in this way is Shenmue, but that's a fairly well-known game.

My favorite game that almost nobody seems to know about is called Evil Zone.  It was only available for the PS1.  It's a fighting game that uses the triangle for various hits (depending on where you're at & the number of arrows), and the circle for defense (and I think some attacks, too, it's been awhile).
My cosplay plans for 2022 (thus far): Vanir from Konosuba
My son's plans this year (thus far): Penguin Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh

Anyone ever heard of Vagrant Story for the PSX? One of the last titles released on the PSX by Square, I think.

I remember hearing about Vagrant Story but never got the chance to play it.  I love the FF games though, and Dragon Quest and a few other Square games.  How is it?

I thought the graphics for the PSX were amazing. You can customize your weapons a lot. Plenty of jumping around and puzzle solving in rooms. I don't entirely remember if fights were turn based or not, but I do remember you could select which part of them you wanted to hit (head, torso, arm, etc.)

Oh, there was one game I loved on Sega Genisis but I can't remember the full title.  I think it had Crusade in it or something.  It was an action RPG type game.
You're a boy who has finally reached the age to go out into the world and fight monsters so you are given a sword and shield.  Everyone suggests he goes to a famous fortune teller in town.  When he does, the fortune teller takes away his ability to speak with humans but can now speak to animals.  The rest of the game you recruit animals to help you on your quest.  They can power up your sword somehow or make you run faster or be used to reach long distances.

<- Loves Vagrant story.

Now one of my favorite games from PSX of all time was called The legend of Dragoon.
Has anyone ever heard of it? it was an original sony made game and it kicked butt. that and the battle system was friggin sweet. I want them to re-make it soooo bad that I am thinking about sending them a letter.
Sometimes you just gotta pull out the stops give it your all and know that you will come out the other end alive, well, and ready for the next challenge.
I'm still waiting for the next one.

Granada
Sega Genesis

This tank game had about two paragraphs of back story referencing your tank as the Ghost of the African Continent or something) and then it leaves you to blasting enemies through an unknown amount of levels with only the barest explanation of when power ups are available and what they actually do. I loved this game but have never been able to beat it. Every time I play and beat the hardest level there's ANOTHER level afterwards!

That'd probably be Virtual On.

I especially love this in game in the arcades. It almost feels like playing a Gundam game (I always wished for a Gundam game like Virtual On, which allows you to sit in a cockpit to control your Mecha).

I've played the original for arcade, the sequel for Dreamcast, and I own the Virtual On: Marz game for PS2.

I'd recommend anyone check it out for some fun 3-D mecha battle action. :D

shadow hearts & shadow hearts: Covenant. after ff of course, but everyone know that series  ;)
the first one looked like a ps1 game even though it was on the ps2. the second one looked a bit better both had awesome movies in them like ff lvl :D
also the battles had something called the judgment ring where u had to hit the indicated spots on it to attack and if u hit the red parts it gave maximum damage for that hit. if you did it perfectly u would do more dmg over all. which is very difficult i mite add lol

sadly enough shortly after i beat Covenant my memory card mysteriously erased itself  :o :'(

Ar Tonelico.  Its anime style RPG with some sim elements.  It also burrows gameplay elements from the Altier Iris series.  I'm really hoping its sequal comes out in the US

Bust-A-Groove/Move 1 and 2. Best Rhythm games I've ever played, they beat DDR's soundtracks by a mile and a half.

Oh, and Legend of Mana. How the hell does that one go overlooked?

Play BeatMania II DX or O2Jam or Try2DJ or Pop'n Music or GF/DM v3.

Waaaaay better soundtracks, charts, visuals, and scoring systems than DDR.

Oh, or Pump Pro.  The only rhythm game I've experienced that was more aesthetically pleasing than Pump Pro was my BMIIDX HS-themed StepMania with 950 songs. :P

There was a fighting game from the Ninja Turtles franchise; I think it was called "Ultimate Tournament."  The basic storyline is that Shredder has entered some major televised tournament & the turtles decide to be involved, just to beat him.  (Apparantly being amphibious ninjas means nothin in this game).
There were also some freaky other animal-creature-men in the game that, as far as I know, were only in the original comics.  This one I know for sure, there was a female ninja, kinda like Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury, who was never in the comics, never in the TV shows, & never in the movies.  Her storyline is that she was in the tournament so as to win the prize money, so she could save her dojo.
I played the game once & got royally stomped on, (of course I was 10 or so).  It was on the SNES, but I'm sure it was on other systems, too.

Toobin'.

It's arcade only, I think.  There's a machine at GK if you want to try it out legally, or just DL a MAME ROM.

It was also made for a home system but I forget which.  In any case, I think it's more fun when you play it on the arcade version instead.

Probably NES or C64.

I know Saint Dragon was on the C64 'cause I played it on my Commodore Amiga 500.

But that might have been a bootleg or something.
