Choose Your Con Adventure
« on: February 14, 2008, 11:38:41 am »
This is dedicated to our new friend ShyOneYetStrong.

You are standing on the sidewalk to the East of a white hotel with a glass door. There is a small line of otaku there.

Mustash doesn't want to play the game I guess, if he wants to be the computer then he gets to run it. I didn't think I'd have to explain the format of a text based adventure.  ::)

Perhaps I will make a new thread and start over with my mighty mod powers (and a detailed explaination). Hmm...

Maybe I was guessing wrong, I was assuming the format was perhaps similar to the other spam threads like "favorite" or "random question", an answer and question type game, right? If so, I've got it down and can keep on truckin, as the phrase goes.

Eve, your response was correct. I just didn't expect Mustash to take over like that. If he wants to be the computer and doesn't want to play that's his choice. I'm not going to do that though. Text based games were single player.

Like I said (editted) I'll make a new game with a more clear format.

I actually think Mustash's way would be fun.

It could go
someone's action
someone's computer response
someone's action
someone's computer response

I'll do the reply to "steal naruto-cosplayer headband"

Steal? Why would you want to steal from a fellow Otaku?! You now feel ashamed.

That's what I thought as well.

Though I can see Tom's point of view.  In his format you'd need this...

Special Case First Post:
Scene only.

Special case Second Post:
Command
Result

Which isn't very entertaining...

The format:
Result
Command

is too easily abused.

I think "Mustash's way" might yield better results.

The perfectly conditioned air wafts gently past as you look (step?) inside.  There are two tables set up, with little of interest on them, in the center of the room.  Against the west wall there is a reception looking desk, flanked by a row of tables that are currently not staffed.  A sign hanging off the tables reads "Information".  To the right you see a desk staffed by a guy working on computers, and a few Staff members who are now looking in your direction.  They say, "Welcome to Pre-Reg, can we help you with checkin?  Or if you're not pre-regged the correct line is on the north side."

To the south is a wide stairway curling around to the east and doubling back to the north from the midway landing.  There is no stair down.  A hallway along the west wall runs north and south.

Some d00d wearing a snazzy looking cosplay jacket, and a spiky hair doo with bells at the end of each spike stops you at the top of the stairs.  "This area is reserved for Kumoricon.  Please show your ID and lanyard at all times.  As I don't see either on you, I suggest you check in or go somewhere else."  He seems quite insistent that you not go past the top of the stairs.  That is a cosplay sword sheathed at his waist isn't it?

(BTW, I believe it's also possible for there to be no response to a given input, thus meaning you have to try again.)

Seemingly a hundred Yojimbo in various states of Cosplay completeness from various anime, manga, and videogames rush in to the area like Black Friday Shoppers in a frenzied mob to get their goodies.  All moshing towards a giant tackle that quickly presses you flat beneath their massive combined weight.  Unable to breath in the ensuing panic, you quite sadly die.

GAME OVER

(Oops, RACE condition... and no prompt...)

The supervisor laughs and says, "It's still the first day and we aren't even over 2500 yet."  Then they look slightly concerned.  "You are pre-registered right?  Did they even try Looking Up Your Name?"  His eyes glance towards a Yojimbo walking down the stairs in Bleach cosplay and the Yojimbo haiori (sp), just in case the guest needs an Escort to the correct line.

No replies, bumping.  The next poster after me can select which of the two they want to respond to, based on whatever criteria they like.

> Following the yojimbo, you are led through what seems like a labyrinth of arabesque-carpetted hallways. You begin to think you are trapped inside a Rococo painting when the hall bursts open into a large (and very populated) room. From one end of your vision to the other, there are all sorts of colorfully dressed figures, and you can't even begin to count the number of conversations fluttering about the large room. Looking EAST and noticing a large set of glass doors and windows, you realize that all these people are (or once were) in the line you first saw outside. So this is the front of the line! Friendliness seems to abound, albeit masked in noise and giddy declarations of squeee! Various yojimbo are seen peace-bonding weapons and issuing badges and taking monies. Letting your gaze drift from the glass doors and line to the EAST, you see a large set of maroon double-doors to the WEST, and a continuing hallway going NORTH.

> Approach peace-bonding yojimbo.
