Information page writing contest

Announcing the 2008 Information Page writing contest!

The top button in the menu for the Kumoricon web site is a general informational page about Kumoricon:

http://www.kumoricon.org/?page_id=12

Can you write this page?

We need an update for 2008 and would like our attendees or staff to let the world know what you love about Kumoricon.

We need something between 400 and 800 words, written for an audience that may or may not have been to an anime convention before. Explain what's great about anime, manga, video games, and/or Japanese culture, and what's great about celebrating them at an anime convention--and at Kumoricon.

The staff will vote on the winning entry at the staff retreat. Entries will be anonymized and reprinted and staff can peruse them. You can enter if you are staff but please do not talk about your entry with other staff until the voting is complete. If this is a problem we reserve the right to disqualify entries.

Voting will be done by simple plurality or majority with ad-hoc runoffs. That is, if the vote is close, we'll remove some of the low-placing entries and do another round, repeating as necessary. The exact mechanics of the runoffs are my judgment call as they are being done.

If you don't win, don't despair--we might be able to use your entry as a newsletter article!

The fine print:

  • All entries become property of Kumoricon.
  • The contest is open to anyone. Entrants need not be staff or even attendees.
  • Entries must include the full names and email addresses of the writers and be the original work of the entrants.
  • Entrants may send updated copies of their entries before the due date, replacing any earlier versions.
  • An entrant may enter more than one entry if they are completely different from each other, subject to our judgment.
  • The word limit of 400 to 800 may be exceeded a small amount in either direction, subject to our discretion, if strongly justified by the content.

Please send entries to publicity@kumoricon.org. Entries are accepted up until Thursday, April 24, 2008, 11:59:59 PM, Pacific Daylight Time.
