Ultra-temporary hair dye?
« on: March 01, 2005, 12:56:24 pm »
Anyone know where I could find hair dye that comes off completely with one or two washes? Actually, I wouldn't really call it dye as much as hair paint. More specifically, one that'll give a yellow or blonde-ish color for my friend who'll be Sailor Uranus. I live in Portland.

That depends.... whats the original color of your friends hair??? If its a darker shade that'll be tricky ..i'd say dye... But just for a day is probably not a wise undertaking. Use a spray-on color, or purchase a blonde wig.
However if you can get to a beatuy supply store (Sally's beauty supply) your absolute best option is a Rinse.....A rinse is considered temporary hair color, which means the color does not penetrate the hair shaft. Color rinses generally last only through one to two shampoos. Although there is no chemical reaction, if hair is damaged and porous, the color can penetrate and stain the hair. Try  Roux Fanci-Full Rinse
....http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/1440/700312  or..........In addition to a rinse, other temporary colors are available...Colored mousse, like Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse ,color sprays, like Streaks 'N Tips Highlight Spray-In and color gels, like Beyond The Zone Spike It Cement can also change your haircolor temporarily. These are all avalible from Sally's (a very common store) and most beauty supply stores.

Hope this helps!

That helps a lot! I'll definitely take those suggestions to heart and stop by the nearest Sally's. My friend's hair is asian black, and he just wants to be certain it'll come off in one or two washes. Would Sally's have a similar solution for his Sailor Neptune (teal) partner who's also looking for a temporary solution?

I'm buying my Green Hair dye from Sallys, I'm gonna be Dejiko.
I would get Yellow and Blue and mix it? Green? -shrug- That could turn out really bad though. >.>

Okay well to first answer Lunarae's question...a temp for a unsual color like teal...I doubt they have some temp...most offbeat colors tend to be at least a semi-perminent...so for her i'd recomend using a "hair mascara" or hair paint also spray on paint (try Streaks 'N Tips Highlight Spray-In, less likely to ruin your hair than other products....but wear gloves its can be messy) you could spray on maybe neon green with pale blonde?? ask the clerks at sally 3 out 4 of them know exactly what to do...these can all be found at beauty supply store, salon AND costume shops....although it may not give her the full effect look shes going for....Most should get the point at the convention and it'll save her hair much trouble.....otherwise try the cosplay classifieds for a good wig        .... www.cosplay.com ....  If the hairpiece is made of human hair, it can be colored to match what you want with the perminant coloring.
As for your question Ronime DO NOT USE A RINSE! or dye...or temp dye your best and really only solution to dye black AND keep it temporary is to use a spray...I'd use spray only....its work jsut fine....for several years I bleached my hair blonde or toned it white so i've used it....also you might add some drops or gloss to your hair just ensure an extra umph of protection...if you use a rinse your hairs going to turn out more gray...
I would recomend something like Aphogee Gloss Therapy, African Royale Diamond Drops, Clairol Radiance Colorgloss .....these will protect your hair and make the color looks extra nice.

Riverspree, can you give any advice for how well gray/silver dye would work on semi-dark brown hair?

Oddly enough, I think the dye will work for both Kakashi and as a member of the Black Gema Gema Dan.

Well that depends again ..temporary or semi-perminent color?...if semi it is doable ... but you know...My natuaral hair color is a dark/medium brown...and I've done silver hair twice on me and a bunch more on my friends... the best temp solution that will REALLY WORK...is a spray...these can be found most anywhere costumes shops, sallys, anyway.... It will turn everything and anything a gorgeous shiny silver gray. Now however if you do want to do a semi-perminent just for kicks and giggles I can tell you how to do that to...but thats probably something I'd im you as I wouldn't want to keep it short on the whole dying process. But like I said I can walk you through it & I do know that the line of toners I use makes a "semi - permanent hair color in 5 shades made specifically to enhance naturally gray hair...they include  Pearl, Platinum, Silver, Slate, and Smoke" I also do think that Roux does make a rinse with a silver theme something like...oh heck I'll look..........True Steel & Silver Lining. Now as how well these will work....I haven't actually used a rinse for these because the silver spray works so well. But I would imagine that with your hair type it should get the color you want if you did....I would only worry about the coming out part so you might ask someone at sallys. or a salon.
