hey everyone, i was going to go to sakuracon as my first con, BUT certain things happened and i didnt get to go, but i am bound and determined to make kumoricon my first!

so yeah, i was kinda looking to talk to some other people who have never been to a con before, get kind of a newbie group thing going!

I don't think I'd be a very good con-goer, as I am antisocial and not prone to be very feminine.  But it is my first time so I suppose I am a newb also.

Heh, this is my first time going to Kumori con as well, but, seeing as I've gone to the Sakura con for (also) the past three years (since 2001) I wouldn't exactly consider myself a Newbie.  hehehe...  :lol: Sorry!

the tentacles looked friendly to me!  i did go to SakuraCon but that was my first ever and the next one i go to will still feel like my first cuz i get that lost feeling of no knowing what to do and where to go the first many times i start new things.  Being that i did go to sakuracon would you still talk to me  :cry:  *sniff* i also didn't get to see much cuz i didn't know how to find things  :?: even the freaks need friends... :cry:

speaking of which... we really need to get ahold of squiggles and wiggles... but they're too damn slippery.  wait, uhh... I mean, I wonder if we can get them down to Kumoricon.

But getting a giant pixy stick from a strange tentacle is one of my first and favorite con memories ^___^. Actually...I thought he was some sort of cactus at the time. Ah, to be young and naive again  :roll: .

Ah ha ha hah.  A giant cactus with suckers.  Gods... if tentacles were Cacti... *shudder*

On that note though, I will personally -- and Legolas has only done this once -- glomp anyone that comes to Kumoricon as a Cactur.

You don't have to be a girly girl!  I do the cosplay dressup thing at cons, but outside of them I'm 100% jeans and T shirts.  In the past 2 years I've used makeup at Sakura Con, Kumori Con and my wedding and that's it.

There's also no rule that you have to cosplay or anything.  Just be yourself.  Sometimes other antisocial people find others to be antisocial together with and come out of their shell once a year, and others just like to listen in to others that like the same things that they like and people watch.  It's all good.

Take Gabe for example... most antisocial person on the face of the planet (Sorry Gabe).  And he came and enjoyed himself.  And he didn't dress up or anything.  Heck, last year at SakuraCon people came dressed up as Tycho and Gabe... that was funny... some people fell for it.

Just be yourself... you'd be amazed at what a Con can bring out in people that are otherwise complete social n00bs.

Oh I'm not saying I wouldn't be myself - I find it hard to be anything else.  ;)  I'm just wondering if I'll be able to keep my temper while existing in a whirling dervish of "omg kawaii neko" fangirls.  XD  I'm quite impatient.  :3  Not to worry though, I'm not a psychopath or anything...  I swear.  :3

It's interesting how Anime conventions can bring out the different sides of peoples personalities, and they'd do stuff at the con, where if they were anywhere else, you wouldn't catch them doing it in a million years.  (Plese, no bad thoughts on my last comment.. i KNOW i didn't word it right...).

On a different note, the tentcles scared me a little.  I was at the Anime Dating game for a bit a Sakura con (2004) and one of the tentcles were trying to 'get it on' with the speaker... at least, it LOOKED like it.  *shiver*

Any who, that's just my little thoughts.

Completely agree. One of the fab things about anime cons is the wide range of things you can do.  If you're feeling grouchy with crowds, slip off to an anime showing (a surprisingly uncrowded space usually).  Or panels are great if you would rather listen than talk. And you learn So MUCH!

Conventions are a swirling montage of options: Dealers Room, Art Show (when available) , Artists Alley (functionally halfway between the two), panels, demonstrations, gaming (again, a WIDE range possible, depends on the convention), cosplay (you can just watch, you don't need to bring something unless you feel like it), industry announcements, or (my favorite) just talking with people and making new friends.

Our shared interest is the driving force that makes for a great weekend.

Volunteering as staff is a great way to get to know some people, especailly if your shy--or you like to crack sarcastic jokes while working. I went to Sakura-con for the first time, and I wouldn't have had nearly so much fun if I hadn't had volunteered for infobooth.

Conventions are great places to have fun and meet new people.  And with the activities that we're planning, there should definately be something for everyone to enjoy during the convention.

i am very antisocial i sometimes dont leave my house for weeks and i hate crowds but i was fine at sakura con and had a great time maybe its all the dressed up people
