So... Kcon is right around the corner. The girl Im going with informs me that shes really looking forward to the Masquerade Ball. I say yeah its going to be fun I wonder when it is.... Apparently its during Kcon...
Please correct my here. I was under the impression that it was later in the winter like December or January. Is there a different ball that takes place around then? Was the masquerade ball first a separate event then brought into the Con? Have I just been wrong this whole time and theres only one and its always been during the Con?

Note Im talking about a formal ball, not the techno dance party thingy.

Yes, I saw that in the schedule. Is there a different ball later in the winter or has it always been only during the con? Basically Ive got like 4 days to find something formal to wear... and I dont know where to begin

Only in the past year or two have there been Winter Semi-Formal Dances, if I remember right. There has always been a formal dance at Kumoricon, also, though, as far as I can remember.

As I can recall The first Official Masquerade was at k-con 07. I remember because that was my first year there.

Usually they're at Norse Hall in NE portland or Milwaukie Community Center in Milwaukie.

Go to The Dig in Oak Grove for clothes. Their selection of decent-looking, good-fitting, CHEAP AS DIRT formal wear is fantastic.

Thanks Tofu, I definitely have to check that out. If I cant find something there Ill have to go to Mr Formal or Mens warehouse or something... does mens warehouse even have formal wear?

I think that's what they have. I don't buy clothes new though. After shopping at Good Will and The Dig for years, anything over $10 is expensive (for clothes) and anything over $20 better be made of pure amazing if it wants me to buy it.

About 50% of their menswear is formal.

I'm pretty sure that was the first time they had the masquearde as well. It was in a small crammed room, and the line to get into it took forever. So in 2008, it got moved into the main events room and started the mask requirement, and this year has a stricter dress code too.
I know there was a mini event ball put together by Kumoricon before, as well as some other mini event dances.

My date is going to be wearing a "prom" dress so Ill be wearing equivalent formal attire. Though in the future I might want to have a more formal military dance outfit like the dance scene in FF8.
