No I was not expecting perfection, especially not from an Alien Vs Predator game. I was however hoping for something on par with if not better then the first 2 AvP games. Its not the first AvP game to come out, its the first one they've done on console yes, but that's no reason to why it can't be as good.
First, did you really ever believe Aliens, Predators, and Marines would be perfectly balanced? Particularly for the first game of the series, on consoles? And prior to any patches, updates, or DLC?
Yeah, a lot of the balancing issue can probably be patched, but that's not going to fix the overall poor gameplay.
Second, lack off weapons. Sure.. compared to the PC games, which were generic.
If you expected this to have the weapon variety of Modern Warfare 2, I pity you.
No I didn't expect to get the amount of weapons available in MW2.
Yeah, lack of weapons. Your arsenal as predator has not only been stripped down to 4 weapons, the emphasis is now on the poorly done melee combat. To use anything other then your claws to kill the aliens proves to be a hassle and for the most part its a lot easier to just run around using executions on everything else. The weapons take a real backseat and the majority of the time aren't needed at all.
With the marine it wasn't so much a complete lack of weapons as it was how lame and weak they all felt . Upon finally getting a hold of the Pulse Rifle, I think back to how it was your primary weapon in the other games and how good it was. I figure I'm now good to go. WRONG! Felt like I was shooting an Airsoft gun, 30+ rounds or so into the 99 round clip and it has still failed to kill the alien running at me. I shouldn't Have to dump more then a 3rd of the clip into any one alien.
Aside from lacking even a decent variety of weapons (especially with the predator) The weapons you are provided with aren't even all that fun to use, and are poorly done. If you're not going to put very many weapons into a game, make the ones you do put in fun and enjoyable to use.
This game, if you couldn't tell by the storyline, is based slightly more around the movies, with various game adaptations like all games based on movies.
WAT.
Are you saying the Story/Campaign is based more around the crappy AvP movies?? The movies that take place in present day, on earth, with no space marines. What are you trying to say with this??
Forth, are you comparing the 'garbage' storyline to the original AvP games? Which had virtually no story in their storyline, and basically a linear path involving killing enemies?
Wasn't really talking about the storyline. I was comparing the garbage single player campaign to that of the original games (Avp2 in particular). While the original 2 games weren't exactly known for their mind blowing storyline, they were better written, better paced, and more enjoyable to play through. The environments and level design were also done better.
And finally.. did you really expect something not 'watered down'? I mean, could you really expect something more advanced when comparing old PC games with a keyboard of controls, to a console game with 10 buttons, 2 joysticks, and a D-pad?
Are you kidding me on this? As a much younger kid, I was very easily able to map out the controls to my Logitech controller, which at the time I preferred over keyboard and mouse. A controller which couldn't of had any more buttons or been any more sophisticated to that of a 360 or PS3 controller.
In the end, all I have to say is.. if you bought the game and hated it, sucks for you. I consider the money well spent.
As much as I really wanted the game to be good, I had very little faith in it to began with.
Was a Free rental.
