New convention, coming soon!!!....ish.

Hey guys, there are plenty of conventions popping around. MEWcon and Akicon are still pretty new, but there's another one coming! I'm sure no one would complain about that! ^_-
For anyone who is interested in learning more about this con, please go to ii-con.org  The con is named 'ii-con,' meaning 'good' con. It's going to be a good convention, if not fantastic!
It's still in diapers at the moment, and was only an idea in the Supreme Dominion's head for a few months, but alas, there are forums! Please stop by and ask any questions you may have, or ask questions here.
Seeing as it is still in diapers, there is not much planned for the actual congoers. We hope that is you! Submit ideas here, or there, so we can get things going, hopefully within the year! A baby con needs congoers so it can get on its feet!

Do you have any idea where it will be? Not necessarily the hotel but more of what city. Like Portland, Seattle or....?

It is going to be within about 20 miles of Portland. We are trying to go for Portland, but it will definitely be in that 20 mile radius.

When I asked the Locations director he said Tigard was a possible location. I guess if we can find enough people who think Tigard would be better than portland, then it could be so. ^_^ Or at least closer. (It isn't like we're going to have a bunch of people flying in to attend, but it's good to be close to the air port.)

It can always move as it gets bigger, like kumoricon did. I think somewhere other than Portland would be a good idea. It could get different people in different areas involved.

It would be nice to have another local-ish con in my opinion. And I agree with Nikki, somewhere other then Portland would be awesome.

Well we are aiming for this November, but I don't see things getting together by then. So otherwise, summer of next year. I think a summer con would be great, because most of the cons in this area are around fall. I am rooting for June/July, but the date is still open.

Consider putting ii-con at Edgefield's (it's a mcmeanamin's but has awesome atmosphere and includes a small hotel). The first few Gamestorm conventions were held there and that worked out fine.

I'd love to come as long as it's not the same month as another NW con ~ Kumoricon - September, Akicon - November, MEWcon - December/January, Sakuracon - April.

I'm gonna go against the grain and say it would be cool to have in fall.
Though, I don't go to other conventions like Sakura, AX, etc.... that way I still have something to look forward to a bit after Kumoricon instead of waiting a year till the next summer.

TIME
Early-mid summer, not august or september. It's be great to start the summer off with a con, huh? So it's a year away.

LOCATION
We are still waiting for a better estimate of how many people might be going.
Who knows what Kumo's first year of attendance was?

The admin is busy opening a new computer business, so he hasn't had much time to be active on the forums, but planning is still underway!

I would say go of mew cons first year. There were like 150 to 200 people at mewcon. I would imagine that would give you a pretty good estimate...though at Akicon there were about 1500 >_> It all depends on how much you advertise.

yeah it's best to go off of Mewcon and Akicon. i was at both and yet it seems best to go with Mewcons more understanding things then Akicon's hecktic got no full clue type of thing. but i'd be willing to help with the con if you would like!

To answer your question, I was at our first Kumori, in Springfield, 2003, Thanksgiving weekend, as a Fanfic Judge & Panelist. I believe our attendance was 451.

Their forum seems to be a majorly stripped down version of phpbb. The only information on said forums is that the con might be in Tigard and it might be in November or some time next summer.

I tried registering for their forums. The only things it asks for is username, password, e-mail, and the code of conduct check box. It does not make you type in your password or e-mail twice and check them against each other to make sure you didn't misspell something. Either I misspelled my e-mail address or their validation e-mail is really slow (15min now) but I have no way of checking that because every time I try and log in it only gives me the option to re-send the validation e-mail (which doesn't help if I misspelled my e-mail address).

The forum scheme is simplistic at best (white words on black/gray background) and the sections are laid out similar to the Kumoricon board (although much smaller). The four most recent post are from people who have read this thread asking for more info. Other than that it seems that there has been no activity at all on this board since June (even from the administrator).

The administrator repeatedly advertises no or minimal rules, which will quickly lead to ii-con getting kicked out of their venue, no given a venue, or sued for various reasons all relating to a poorly defined code of conduct.

Over all it seems that this con was started on a whim and ended just as quickly.

Yeah, I know they have problems. Like I said, it's still in diapers. Admin is REALLY busy, and so sadly it will take a while to really get things going. But the more people that are willing to help out, the better. (Admin is busy because he just opened a new business, and that is taking up all of his spare time). I'm really sorry it's starting so slowly. If I had known that I wouldn't have posted it right away.
The reason it seems so cheap is because yes, they are new at the whole con thing. But it will get better with input. I'll let admin know that there are issues and we'll see if we can get things fixed up soon. Lego, you should be a critic in a newspaper.

It's really weird that people can't register - I registered and logged in just fine. Maybe it doesn't like certain browsers?

Could be typos in things, I guess, because, sadly, there is only one line for password or email? I didn't notice that before. ^_^;; Otherwise the forums are just tweaking out. It is is a really simple layout because it was just done by a friend, so none of the fancy gizmos Kumoricon or other forums have are available. I wouldn't be surprised if a code got messed up. *Not that I know anything about coding.*

registered just fine. posted just fine. everything works great. i think ppl did type wrong. (and it could be the human error factor lawlz XD) so they gotta check and see if they made a mistake. and having 2 lines for password and email would be a great idea.
