I saw this column in the NY Times, and thought you guys might enjoy it as well:

This is my serious voice. Otherwise, I'm just another anime fan, not a moderator.

It's simple. Just remove:
The mindset that causes bursts of panic
The ridiculous devalue, envy and exploitation of others
Every form of greed and pursuit of power
Acceptance of personal mediocrity
All forms of derogatory and uncivil language
Compressed individual responsibilities

Install:
A headstrong capacity in the most dire and unfortunate situations
A mentality of racial discrimination toward all outsiders and those that don't stay in this country
A collective identity and cause
Submissiveness and selflessness
A language that forces politeness 90+% of the time
A goal-oriented mindset that creates pride and ethic for all social matters
A foundation of appropriate limits on behavior towards others

Personally, I have a fairly critical imbalance of both sets. I know it's not normal but I'm never very sure what to fix what and exactly when. My goal-oriented behavior , aggressive intolerance towards mediocrity and spite for stupid sets people off pretty easily. Japanese figured out how to do this politely and without such dominating behavior. Most people I know tend to hold onto the majority in that first list and they can't handle much of the second one. Don't worry. As long as people knowingly put themselves in hopeless situations that cause panic, have no guidance or value and continue to remain constantly self-involved, we will face the same cycle of problems for several generations to come. It's likely that the only way to completely abandon this type of situation is to force yourself into a community that reflects the selfless ideals of a collective. The Japanese figured it out and if you're too insane to understand what any of this means then just think how you would treat everyone like they're always far more heavily armed than you. You might as well. That's the power of a Japanese collective and why it works. :/

Magi: What are you doing?
Me: I'm putting a stop to this. Now.
Magi: You'll die.
Me: I don't believe that.

Oh yeah, Kristof, that twit from Monmouth, Oregon. I try not to read him. Even his praise is damning.

They could've played pin the tail on the donkey, but no, let's get Japanese kids to be as rude as possible for the gai-jin. How neighborly.

No wonder they think of Americans as people like Tina Foster

Also we don't want to learn or listen anyway. It wasn't invented here. Even if it was, we don't wanna hear it. Edward Deming is a case in point.
Have Fun
