Fuyu: That sounds lovely! Are you thinking an outdoor picnic type thing?

Wuntvor: I'm debating going. I'll probably decide at the very last minute whether or not I am.

@Wuntvor: I'll be going on both days cuz it's one of those events besides conventions that I look forward to every year~ x3

@Malaria: Why yes actually~ I'm really wanting to have it at Owen Rose Garden, in the gazebo preferably! That would be beyond perfect. <33

The idea has merit, but I've been feeling sick. Will have to see how I fare this weekend before deciding about next week.

Hmm, I am getting deja vu.  Seems like I saw this somewhere else.  Oh I did.  I posted it three posts before this one.  :P

Anyone going to the Asian Celebration next weekend (19th & 20th)?

I am still trying to see if KumoriCon is doing anything there this year.  So far I haven't gotten any reply's, to my emails, nor have I seen any threads on the forum.  I plan to attend, and may even volunteer to work in the Children's Area doing origami.

Yeah.  I am going to be assisting in the cooking demo area on Sunday from 10:30am - 1:00pm.  Come buy a cookbook from me.
I will most likely be making origami dragons.  Come by and I will give you one.   ;D

@Flower: Well, there is this one event I just posted on the Facebook group but it's not until May 1st. The next upcoming event has a specific theme which might not be as fun if you don't know the series; so if you'd like to meet up sooner than that, we can arrange something. I'm game. :3

I'm game, too. I try to drop by here every once in awhile, but if there is Facebook activity I will definitely know about it right a way. I'd particularly like to see something else happen in the next month or so.

Sounds good to me. Got anything in mind?

If nothing else I could easily host board games and/or video games and/or anime watching.  I have several box sets that I haven't even broken into from the Kumori Con swap meet last year. And my house has a living room and a family room for hosting. Both contain a TV, and each one is big enough for 6-10 people.

I'm not quite sure what that's supposed to mean, but you must be thinking about how Portland and Vancouver have larger venues, right?

Anyway, hi guys~ Now that Sak is over and the weather is getting nicer, I've kind of been kind of thinking about a summer meet-up again. The picnic that we had last year was a lot of fun~ I know it's still early for Summer, but I'm just rolling ideas around, here. XD

I am totally up for a summer meet-up in addition to the tea party that Fuyuko has planned. :) Warm weather is excellent for cosplay get-togethers in Oregon, since the usual dreary, damp weather is horrible for most costumes.

Here's something I've been wanting to do for a long time:

A trip to Enchanted Forest. Despite it seeming a little "kiddy," I actually have three separate personal reasons for wanting to take a trip up there this summer...and at least one of the reasons involves cosplay, so I would be very happy if we could organize a caravan/carpool up there.

If people are up for it, could we consider... say... early June?

HINT HINT: My birthday is June 8th. That's a Wednesday, but if we went the weekend before OR after that, perhaps I could make a birthday party out of it?... ^^;; That would definitely make my day...

I think I see why Kumoricon left Eugene, eh?

Technically speaking, Kumori Con left Eugene because of overwhelming GROWTH, not because of lack of interest.

If you were to instead suggest that it's difficult to maintain an anime club in Eugene, you would be right. However we've had a lot more success recently than in the past. In general, it's the small, intimate groups that succeed. The whole "Eugene Cosplayers" idea has actually been a success, even though we don't meet weekly and the get-togethers only happen every month or two. Sure, it seems quiet here, but when groups get to be more intimate, you can expect them to slowly drift away from big, public forums like this one. Even if there aren't many comments, we get plenty of use out of Facebook's event RSVP system, and people DO come to these things.

Heh, sounds like you caught sight of us... Didn't want to come up and say hi?

Yep, it seems there are always a ton of Hetalians in any cosplay group these days. :P I was practically the only non-Hetalia cosplay.  At the very least, Hetalia held a majority.

I was the one wearing an outdoorsy, medieval-ish cosplay with tied-off shorts and fur-lined sandals. It's Link's villager outfit from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

OK, I know this is short notice. Sorry about that.

Tomorrow, Friday the 3rd of June, I will be showing a movie double feature for my Anime Friday.  I hope to have a decent turn-out, but there is always room for more.  The two movies I will be playing are:

Arete Hime: Confined in the castle tower by her father princess Arete spends her days watching the world outside her window. Sometimes she seeks out to watch the common people at work. The knights of the kingdom compete for the right to marry her and rule the land by competing to see who can find powerful magic objects made by a long dead race of sorcerers. Arete wants none of this. She longs to meet the common people and travel to exotic lands she has only seen in the books she keeps hidden under her bed. One day the sorcerer Boax arrives in a fantastic flying machine to take Arete as his wife and fly off with her to his far away castle.

Colorful (2010): Upon reaching the train station to death, a dejected soul is informed that he is lucky and will have another chance at life. He is placed in the body of a 14-year-old boy named Kobayashi Makoto, who has just committed suicide. Watched over by a neutral spirit named Purapura, the soul must figure out what his greatest sin and mistake in his former life was before his time limit in Makoto's body runs out. He also has a number of other lesser duties he must complete, such as understanding what led Makoto to commit suicide in the first place and learning how to enjoy his second chance at life.

Princess Arete Made me think of Victorique from Gosick.  She is in almost the same situation, stuck up in a tower, used as a tool by her father who doesn't care about her, spending all of her time reading books, and wondering what life outside her window is really like.  The art style was similar in some ways to Howls Moving Castle and also to The Last Unicorn.  If you liked those films you should definitely give Arete Hime a try.  A must see on my list.

You would think that Colorful would be a poor choice as a double feature, but I felt that the character of Makoto aligned so well with that of Arete they just compliment each other.  Colorful covers some very deep subjects, suicide, child prostitution, adultery, and verbal abuse, to name a few.  This is definitely a true life style drama, and not a kiddie flick.  It has a strong message, and it doesn't pull it's punches in delivering it to you.  Worth seeing at least once.

Anime Friday starts at 7:00pm every Friday at my home in Eugene.  PM or email me if you want directions.

Hope to see you here.
