Need help making Aerith's Staff
« on: June 28, 2011, 03:41:09 pm »
Need help! I am not quite sure what materials to use for Aerith's Staff
I'm making Princess Gaurd http://images2.fanpop.com/images/quiz/65302_1222079160780_400_300.jpg

I need help on what material's to use. I was thinking PVC for the staff itself. Any suggestions?

You could just buy a pvc pipe at home depot and then use craft foam for the top and follow the armor tutorial I gave you to seal it and make it look more like metal. That is what I would do at least.

Lowes or any home supplies store should have PVC pipe.

And what should I use for the Red Gem at the top? Styrofoam? I need to be able to put the pointy end of the staff on top of it.

fyi, wallmart usually sells wooden dowels. and you could use one of those Styrofoam shapes (same section as dowels) for the gem. crafty area.

i know its a lil late, but my sis and i were thinking wooden dowel cause it would b a bit more sturdy. seeing as how u already got the pvc tho, nvm :)
as far as the floor polish goes u should b able to get it at home depot or ace.

I've never bothered with the floor polish method, honestly. Be sure to back your craft foam with something sturdy though! And seal your foam with some white glue or mod podge before painting, too.

I mix one part glue one part water. Elmers glue works just fine. As for the gauze you can use any thin fabric. I have even used paper towels before. You don't need toe future but it is pretty nice. Any gloss varnish will get the same results.

Just learned about this and my mind was blown clear out the back of my head. The prop possibilities just increased a hundredfold, lol.

Yeah, I'm still looking for it. I think they have some at Tap Plastics, but if I ever use it I want the spray form (which I saw in a tutorial). Seems easier than pouring and mixing into a contained space and just sculpting completely from scratch.
