what's done behind our backs is done behind our backs... and while I've never heard of a studio wanting a con to actively prevent piracy, it doesn't look too far off.
do remember though, what's done without our knowledge is also done without our legal protection. you can't go trade in your room, per se, get sued by some studio, and then say "I was at the Con... they're to blame".
Though, it does become sticky because now you've mentioned it. But, we're not hotel security, and we're certainly not the police.
