Monthly newletter?
« on: April 18, 2006, 09:19:16 pm »
We are putting out a Kumori Newsletter monthly starting in May:

How would you like to see it?
Should it be downloadable from the page?
Should we make an email list for it?

What would you like to see in its content?
Monthly comic maybe, or convention tips?
Crosswords? Games?
Ideas! we need ideas :)

Let me say, that I loved that crossword in the Kumoricon Booklet. xD And I did it without cheating, although some of the questions were hard. x_x;

I think it would be a cool idea to have a spotlight on some clubs of Kumoricon or activites, letting people how to join or get involved. Like Goggle Squad, Survival Horror society, Pocky Club and how to become Staff or Voulenteer.

excellent idea, neko-chan! in precisely that vein, could i include a blurb on the kumoricon_fanfiction yahoo group and how our approach to fanfic (and now fanart) has spread from kumoricon to 2 other conventions? (sakuracon and animEvolution, to be precise!)

And have a column every month on how Anime is not just for kids, some oldies have been following it since the early 70’s with the original imports like speed racer.

And then a column on how the anime/cosplay convention world has one of the highest female percentages of all fandom in the US

And then have a column encouraging the aunts to go to the convention and come out of the nerd closet the 80’s are over

Not sure about the highest percentage of female...
However we could spotlight a differnt club every month and have an "Fun Facts artical highlighting important turns and history in the world of anime.

Hmmm... Crosswords are quite fun... I'm sure I have a program to make them somewhere...

I have seen news footage of all sorts of conventions

Comic Cons - Guys in superman t shirts
Game Cons - Guys in Quake t shirts
Star Trek Cons - Guys in Star Fleet t shirts
Anime Cons - Girls in Cosplay

now we just need to add in more women in cosplay to the mix, and a water fountian with sugar free pepsi.

ooo maybe a little 1-4 panel comic would be fun for the newsletter!  Maybe you could get a different artist each month to do one, just to mix it up a little.  As for other amusing things... here are some random suggestions: <--note: RANDOM!
Maybe you could have a cosplay tip of the month or something??  That could always be helpful for some of us out there (like me!! lol)
Hmm... maybe putting a spotlight on a cosplay costume from a previous year that was really great?  It would be interesting to see what other people have done in the past.
Oooo maybe have a "monthly playlist" of catchy jrock/jpop/anime ost songs somewhere,  i dont know what the point of it would be other than to spread the word about some good music =P
But other than that crosswords/wordsearches are always fun as well!  OR!!
Maybe even a Quiz! ahaha Like those "which character from _____ are you?" or "What type of fangirl/boy are you?" etc...
I dont really know, just a couple random ideas that popped into my head xD;

I used to make crosswords for the school newspaper. I don't think the qualifies me more than anyone else, but I would love to help with the anime crossword part! I love puzzles so much. :)

Cool, anyone that wants to email me at Kumori_girl@yahoo.com with the crosswords for June's issue and issues following. I will post them all on kumoricon.info went it is up. Same with any fan strips "completed" and perferably back and white in jpg form.

Anyone that wants to submit a cosplay pic from last year please contact me before emailing since my box can only hold so much

I look forward to reading it! My suggestion would be to have a mission statement - if your main reason for making a newsletter is to get info out on a monthly basis,  then be sure that is front and center.

i like the idea of publishing something that feels more like a hip zine, in the midst of which info that might otherwise be overlooked as dry and text-heavy becomes more appealing and accessible.

that's precisely the formula we use at AWOL.

The crosswords, comics and things like that are totally awesome! ^^ I think we should have info on cosplay workshops, Pocky Club, Pokemon TCC addicts annonymous, and other anime cons around the country that are goin on in that month.

Info on different anime would be good too. I'm not sure if the problem is as severe over there, but alot of middle school kids think that just because the like FMA or Inu-Yasha [and pronounce it wrong even though his name is said hundreds of times in almost every episode] that they know all there is to know about anime, and NEED further education or else the elder gods will smite their lilly-white azzes. Plus I'm still trying to get more into anime, but my internet-lacking-ness and lack of money makes it harder to do. ;_;
